Chu Feng and Ouyang Feng had traveled at least five hundred *li* from the crimson mountain peak. The sights along the way made them frown; there were many caves, each a mass grave of ten thousand people, and the smell of decay was very strong.
Along the way, they witnessed bloody battles between various creatures. They even saw a Quasi-Saint flying overhead—a bat pursuing a golden flying elephant. The scene was incredibly brutal; though both were Quasi-Saints, the bat held a decisive advantage.
They didn't see the final outcome, as the vital energy emanating from such high-level beings was terrifying, like divine flames burning, making it unbearable for Chu Feng and Ouyang Feng, who dared not approach.
Both were greatly alarmed. The creatures in this world seemed very powerful; as "Yin spirits," they were constantly at risk of mortal danger.
"We're going the wrong way," one of them said. "There are too many powerful beings here, mostly creatures in the late Golden Body realm. Let's change direction!"
If all creatures were of this caliber, there was no point wasting time. They might as well commit suicide and return to the Great Dream Pure Land, as there was no hope of progressing here.
The sky was covered with leaden clouds, which occasionally parted, spilling down large swaths of crimson light, like the setting sun.
The ground was a scene of carnage, with horrific battles between creatures. Many caves also emitted large amounts of black mist.
After changing direction, they found that the powerful creatures became fewer, and the entire area became much quieter.
"Squeak, squeak, squeak..."
Piercing squeals came from ahead.
This area lacked vegetation, resembling a barren wasteland. It was full of rocks and dry riverbeds, very desolate.
Ouyang Feng rubbed his hands together. "Finally, we've encountered some weaker creatures," he said. "Let's capture one and force it to reveal that special technique. If it works, we might even become spiritual saints in this world!"
He saw several rat-like creatures, but they were much larger, as big as wild boars. They had very sharp, snowy-white teeth, lustrous purple fur, and piercing eyes.
Four purple rats were attacking a brown raptor. Their movements were incredibly fast, like four streaks of purple lightning flashing through the air. Each strike drew copious amounts of blood.
The raptor shrieked in agony as its feathers and flesh were continuously torn away.
These purple rats had strong flying abilities and were extremely fast. Even a fierce bird capable of soaring and escaping into the ground would be trapped with no way out if caught in their ambush.
"These rats are all at the Contemplation realm!" Ouyang Feng mumbled. Just a few months prior, he himself had been at this realm, only recently making rapid progress to become a mid-stage Nourishing Radiance realm evolver.
Finally, one of the purple rats bit the raptor's throat, severing it. The raptor let out a dying cry, fell to the ground, and perished.
Chu Feng was moved. Even though they were rats, they were skilled in combat techniques and worked together seamlessly. He even noticed traces of divine beast martial arts in their movements.
He confirmed this with Ouyang Feng.
The toad (Ouyang Feng) nodded. "That's right," he said. "They really do have hints of divine beast martial arts. These rats are formidable."
Afterwards, the four boar-sized purple rats landed on the ground, glowing all over. They activated a secret technique, causing their bodies to swell. Then, small specks of light, seemingly a special substance, flew out from the fallen raptor's body and were rapidly absorbed by the rats.
"Just as I thought, all creatures in this world cultivate special techniques," Ouyang Feng exclaimed. "Now's our chance to capture them and force them to reveal this cultivation method!"
"You little rascals, crawl over here and pay homage to this Divine King!"
Ouyang Feng swaggered forward. As a spiritual entity, he emitted a faint light, carrying his turtle shell on his back, with his hands clasped behind him. He walked with an elegant, almost swan-like gait.
Since entering this world, he had suffered quite a few setbacks. First, he narrowly escaped from a Tyrannosaurus Rex's maw, then witnessed monster after monster rampaging. He even encountered Quasi-Saints battling, which had left Ouyang Feng subdued and constantly on edge.
Now that he finally saw creatures weaker than himself, Ouyang Feng's spirits lifted. He cast a haughty glance at the four purple rats, adopting an arrogant posture.
Chittering!
The four purple rats bared their fangs and immediately lunged forward, incredibly aggressive.
"You're asking for death!" Ouyang Feng said unhurriedly, extending a hand to grab and restrain one of the purple rats.
"Squeak!"
A piercing squeal rang out. The boar-sized purple rat screamed frantically, shaking the ground.
"Go ahead and scream," Ouyang Feng chuckled wickedly. "It won't do any good even if you scream your throat raw!" He then picked up the purple rat with one hand.
He looked every bit like a major villain.
"Even a god can't save you now!" Ouyang Feng declared proudly, exuding an air of one who controlled the world's rise and fall, holding everything in the palm of his hand.
However, Chu Feng's scalp tingled. He poked Ouyang Feng in the side.
"Stop messing around," Ouyang Feng said. "I'm extracting a confession to get a peerless special technique. From now on, we'll rise rapidly!" His voice abruptly cut off. He also sensed something, suddenly looking up. In an instant, his face turned green.
Countless pairs of glowing green eyes appeared. From cracks in the distant ground, purple rat after purple rat emerged, their forms indistinct, stretching as far as the eye could see.
It was practically an ocean of rats, too many to count, densely packed.
Ouyang Feng's face stiffened into a forced smile. "My dear rat brothers and sisters," he said, "I believe there's been a slight misunderstanding here. Let's talk things over peacefully, as gentlemen do, with words not fists. Come, let's sit down and discuss this."
"Please, little rat brother, quickly sit down," Ouyang Feng said, gently lowering the purple rat he had captured. "I was just joking around with you earlier. Let's chat slowly."
"What are you rambling about? Run!"
Chu Feng acted, kicking each of the four purple rats flying in his spiritual form. He didn't kill them, fearing it would enrage the swarm. He grabbed Ouyang Feng and fled.
"Squeak, squeak, squeak..."
Piercing squeals merged into a single roar, like an avalanche and a tsunami. Countless rats burst out of the caves, some with putrid blood still clinging to their mouths, looking utterly ferocious.
"Catch them!" cried some from behind, amid the squealing. "Those two Yin spirits are strange. They must be ghosts from some foreign pond. Capture them and force them to reveal details!"
Behind them, amidst the squealing, masses of rats pursued. Some ran on the ground, as fierce as lions, while others flew through the sky in vast swarms.
Ouyang Feng, who had earlier been dismissive and thought the rats were weak, was now completely terrified. It was a rat tide, far too many. If they were caught, death was certain.
Moreover, they were astonished to find many purple rats at the Contemplation realm, and a significant number even at the Nourishing Radiance realm. The ground was covered in rat shadows.
No wonder this area was so quiet; it was ruled by this rat swarm.
Hiss, hiss...
At that moment, green light shot from the eyes of all the rats. The light transformed into a barrage of arrows, overwhelming and firing forward.
"Is there any justice?!" Ouyang Feng yelled. "They're short-sighted, but they can condense light into arrows!" An arrow hit him in the backside. Fortunately, he was a spiritual body; otherwise, he'd probably be bleeding profusely from the injury.
"Squeak!"
Next, the rat horde behind them shrieked incessantly. The vital energy from countless purple rats surged, and when combined, it was even more terrifying than that of the silver Tyrannosaurus Rex. A monstrous wave of vital energy swept forth, suppressing the heavens and the earth.
Chu Feng and Ouyang Feng both felt that the potent vital energy from behind was too terrifying. Even as spiritual bodies, their forms were almost crushed and torn apart by the pressure.
"Run!"
Fortunately, their speed was great enough. If they had been even a moment slower, they would have certainly died, exploding under the pressure of that vital energy.
"This is outrageous!" Ouyang Feng sat on a rock, grumbling indignantly. "Grandpa Ouyang is a divine beast, yet he's being bullied by rats! Where's the justice in that?!"
Half an hour later, they moved stealthily, catching a lone purple rat without alerting the horde. Then, they fled as fast as they could, flying far away from that area.
Together, they interrogated it, searching the mental light cluster in the rat's brain, and gleaned a lot of information.
This place bordered the Fierce Beast Plateau, a very desolate area that was relatively peaceful and not overly dangerous.
Unfortunately, this rat was too low-level and didn't know much.
However, even the limited information Chu Feng and Ouyang Feng obtained from it impressed them. The evolvers on the Fierce Beast Plateau were terrifyingly powerful.
It was said that even adult divine beasts who recklessly ventured into the Fierce Beast Plateau would perish. Deep within the plateau, there were several ancient and frightening old "tyrants" whose power was unfathomable!
Ouyang Feng's expression was not good. Adult divine beasts could be killed?
Chu Feng was also moved. In their "pond universe," a divine beast, once adult, was at least an Illuminating Heavens-level evolver!
Furthermore, his universe was considered the "Underworld," where various breathing techniques were incomplete, making it difficult for creatures to reach the heights achieved by powerful beings in the "Yang world."
Here, were the world and evolution system complete enough? To what extent could divine beasts be powerful?
In any case, they must be very strong and terrifying. Yet, even so, adult divine beasts would still perish if they entered the depths of the Fierce Beast Plateau!
Thinking about it carefully, this was quite terrifying!
"What about powers further afield?" Chu Feng asked. "Are there cities? Are there humans and evolution sects?"
The rat was somewhat bewildered; it had always lived there and knew nothing of the outside world.
Then, Chu Feng and Ouyang Feng got what they wanted: a special technique similar to a breathing technique, capable of absorbing substances from living creatures that promoted evolution!
"It appears to absorb life energy, but it's not," their analysis concluded. "It's extracting a special substance to promote one's own evolution!"
This was the result of Chu Feng and Ouyang Feng's analysis. After all, one possessed the Daoist Breathing Technique, and the other practiced a divine beast breathing technique. Their understanding was incredibly advanced, placing them at the apex of their universe's pyramid of knowledge, far exceeding ordinary people's insight.
The purple rat, however, was merely instinctively using the special technique passed down in its clan, never having considered its essence or true nature.
Then, Chu Feng and Ouyang Feng "brainwashed" the purple rat, removing some of its memories, and let it go.
They watched it, observing its return to the rat clan's habitat, and secretly monitored them as they hunted.
This area was near the Fierce Beast Plateau, and fierce birds and strange beasts flew over occasionally, so the rat clan never lacked food.
Chu Feng and Ouyang Feng observed them hunting for several hours, then using that special technique. Once they were confident there were no issues, both were eager to try it themselves.
Soon after, they encountered a monster covered in long spines. It resembled a hyena but was like a hedgehog, with purple steel-like quills all over its body, and it was very fierce.
"Roar!"
This monster was at the Nourishing Radiance realm and was surprisingly powerful. For Ouyang Feng, who had lost his physical body, it was a challenging fight, and it took him some effort to subdue it.
"Outsiders, Yin spirits!" the monster roared as Ouyang Feng attacked its forehead, causing it to collapse weakly to the ground.
"Strange," Ouyang Feng mused, "these creatures seem to know about outsiders. Do they frequently encounter them?"
Hiss, hiss, hiss...
A large barrage of quills flew towards them. In the distance, three more monsters charged, roaring, their eyes glinting ferociously. Like hyenas, their bodies were covered in purple steel-like quills.
At this moment, their long purple quills detached from their bodies, flying forward in dense, arrow-like formations.
Chu Feng activated his Soul Bell, also known as the Yang Realm Seed, blocking all the quills. The black bell body vibrated, shattering all incoming quills.
Simultaneously, Chu Feng glowed all over, directly unleashing his psychic energy. Three beams of light shot out, instantly tearing open the heads of the three monsters, killing them.
"That's insane! How did you deal with them so easily?" Ouyang Feng exclaimed in surprise.
"I recently developed a psychic attack technique," Chu Feng said with a serious expression. If he hadn't developed this soul art, he would have had to expend considerable effort, as these monsters were truly formidable.
"No good, I need to choose a psychic attack technique from the divine beast martial arts and study it thoroughly too," Ouyang Feng said. What Ouyang Feng lacked least were top-tier secret techniques.
After dissolving the curse, the various imprint fragments in his blood were activated, granting him mastery of the divine beast heritage left by his ancestors.
"Let's also try out the special techniques of this world," Chu Feng suggested.
They gazed at the four slain fierce beasts, then activated the special technique they had obtained from the rat clan.
With a hum, specks of light flew out from the bodies of the four fierce beasts and merged into their own bodies.
In an instant, both felt a warmth spread through their bodies, immensely comfortable!
Unfortunately, a significant portion of the light specks flowed out of their bodies, unable to be retained. They guessed this was likely because they lacked physical bodies.
Furthermore, this special technique of the rat clan wasn't advanced enough; its efficiency was low, and the loss was considerable.
However, Chu Feng and Ouyang Feng clearly sensed their psychic energy increasing and evolving, though only to a slight degree!
"This is somewhat defying the natural order," Chu Feng thought, his heart ablaze. "If we obtain a high-level special technique, equivalent to the Daoist Breathing Technique, couldn't we then roam freely across this world?"
"Should we go back to the crimson mountain peak?" Ouyang Feng asked. He felt that working independently wouldn't be an issue; they currently had an advantage and might be able to have the last laugh.
"No need to rush back," Chu Feng replied. "Let's gather more information first."
He possessed the Fiery Golden Eyes, allowing him to see extremely distant regions and avoid dangers in advance. This was their confidence in daring to explore on their own.
"I think we can become saints here, spiritual martial saints!" Ouyang Feng exclaimed, full of confidence.
The leaden clouds parted, finally revealing a sun. It was entirely blood-red, as if stained with blood, and looked somewhat eerie.
In the crimson twilight, the outer region of the Fierce Beast Plateau continued to witness bloody massacres. Fierce beasts battled, and savage birds plummeted from the sky.
Chu Feng and Ouyang Feng were hunting, seeking the truth of this world, or perhaps just the essence of this plateau.
Unfortunately, suitable prey was rare. Most creatures they encountered were formidable beasts not to be provoked, often in the late Golden Body realm.
This was mainly because the area bordered the Fierce Beast Plateau, and the monsters that emerged from it were all terrifying!
"Oh, there's a humanoid creature!"
This was the first time they had seen a humanoid creature in this wasteland, and their spirits immediately lifted.
"Nourishing Radiance realm!"
With a whoosh, both rushed forward. Chu Feng used his psychic attack technique, unleashing a beam of psychic light. With a bang, the humanoid screamed, immediately clutching its head and falling to the ground.
Looking closely, it wasn't human. It had beast fur on its body and green scales on its face, merely a humanoid creature.
It jabbered incoherently, scolding them, but Chu Feng and Ouyang Feng couldn't understand. Then, it used psychic transmission.
"Audacious Yin spirits, how dare you attack a servant of the gods? I am a divine envoy!" it said sternly, reprimanding Chu Feng and Ouyang Feng.
"Divine envoy? I'll hit you!" Ouyang Feng retorted, performing a "Swan Spreading Wings" move, and gave it a good beating.
"Stop! I am a subordinate of the most sacred Moon Goddess from the depths of the Fierce Beast Plateau! You cannot treat me this way!" the humanoid creature cried out.
Ouyang Feng didn't stop, continuing to beat it vigorously.
"Stop it! The most sacred Moon Goddess is omnipotent! Though she resides deep within the Fierce Beast Plateau, she is high above all, omniscient and omnipotent. If you treat me like this, you will suffer divine punishment!"
"Right now, Divine King Ouyang is punishing you, understand?!"
