After pondering for some time in the temple, Chu Feng decided it was best to prepare early and resolved to head to Thunder Mountain to speak with the Nine Netherworld Entity.
Thunder Mountain was not far, and Chu Feng arrived quickly. After passing through the force-field-blocked area, his body tensed up as he neared the summit. He actually saw two creatures there and realized they were Reincarnation Hunters!
Standing on the mountaintop, one was a three-eyed, hawk-beaked black fox, and the other had a human head and a gecko body. Both were only two or three feet tall, and their demeanor was strange and terrifying. To Chu Feng's surprise, one of them was standing on a stone coffin and appeared to be siphoned by it!
Was this truly a case of a fierce ghost meeting an evil demon, a battle of formidable opponents? Chu Feng was quite astonished. The Nine Netherworld Entity dared to attack a Reincarnation Hunter? Its audacity was simply immense!
"I'll suck your blood dry, haha..." came the ancient voice of the Nine Netherworld Entity from the stone coffin, filled with arrogance and delight.
Chu Feng was dumbfounded. The Nine Netherworld Entity was truly brutal, daring to do such a thing, furiously siphoning the vital blood of a Reincarnation Hunter. It was incredibly savage.
"What kind of ghost are you? Why do you have no blood?"
Soon, the Nine Netherworld Entity cried out in alarm, growing anxious. It sensed something was wrong; it couldn't draw a single drop of blood. Chu Feng felt anxious for the entity, but also a chill. Reincarnation Hunters, like the soldiers on the path of reincarnation, were almost decayed, mere skin and bones. How could they possibly have any blood? Yet, even so, this wasn't the reason the hunter escaped harm. It was due to its unique constitution and extraordinary nature.
"No, why can't I even absorb soul power?" the Nine Netherworld Entity stammered, trembling. It already had a premonition it had kicked an iron plate; it had encountered a truly formidable opponent.
A shriek echoed out, as the Reincarnation Hunter standing on the coffin cried aloud. The sound was too eerie, incredibly miserable. "Ah..." the Nine Netherworld Entity groaned, seemingly in great pain.
"Daring to lay hands on a Reincarnation Hunter, you truly have some nerve!" said the human-headed, gecko-bodied hunter, standing on the coffin. Its voice was ancient and extremely cold.
"What? Reincarnation Hunters look like you?" the Nine Netherworld Entity cried out, clearly seeing them for the first time. Its voice was clearly off, trembling with intense unease. What exactly had it done? It had actually tried to suck the blood of a Reincarnation Hunter.
Chu Feng hadn't expected that a Nine Netherworld Entity, renowned for its brutality, viciousness, and ruthlessness, would actually exhibit fear, which quite surprised him.
"Speak! Tell us your life story, all your wicked deeds!" the two-foot-long, three-eyed, hawk-beaked black fox demanded, standing on the mountaintop and looking at the stone coffin.
"This... Aren't Hunters only meant for beings who defy the rules of reincarnation, those who carry memories and force their way out? Those are incredibly powerful beings; it has nothing to do with me. I... I haven't attempted to force my way through reincarnation!" The Nine Netherworld Entity was stammering, a rare sight for it to be so terrified and uncharacteristically flustered.
"Tell us all your crimes!" The human-headed, gecko-bodied Reincarnation Hunter stood on the coffin, looking down as if trying to see through it.
The Nine Netherworld Entity vehemently denied any guilt, but when another shriek rang out, it seemed to get goosebumps. Trembling, it stammered, "Let's talk calmly. I'll tell you everything, holding nothing back."
Chu Feng watched from a distance. Although he knew the two hunters had discovered him, he wasn't worried and simply observed with great interest.
"When I was three, I beat up my senior martial brother...""When I was four, I peeked at my senior martial sister bathing.""When I was five, I ambushed people with a stick, dominated my peers in the martial sect, and committed various acts of robbery."
From afar, Chu Feng was speechless. What kind of old, trivial matters were these? It could remember them so clearly and bring them all up. Was this truly a Nine Netherworld Entity? It was clearly trying to intentionally divert attention.
"After I became famous, I beat my martial uncle three times. I stole a gourd of True Dragon Bone medicinal wine from my master, and after drinking it all, I replaced it with a gourd of black-boned chicken blood wine for him."
"After my sworn brother married the third most beautiful woman in the Yang Realm, I once attempted to abduct the most beautiful woman in the Yang Realm... but I failed and got a brutal beating instead!"
Chu Feng was dumbfounded by what he heard. How many outrageous things had this scoundrel done, and it had the nerve to confess them all itself. At the same time, he was speechless. This fellow had been talking for half an hour already and still wasn't finished, having only recounted events from his childhood up to middle age. Chu Feng simply sat on a rock, listening as he witnessed the ever-growing list of its crimes and wicked deeds.
"Shut up! You've done far too many wicked deeds. Do you intend to talk for a day and a night?" Even the Reincarnation Hunters couldn't stand it and began to scold. Although these weren't heinous major crimes, its outrageous deeds, both large and small, had been constant and endless from childhood to adulthood. At this rate, it could talk for days and nights and still not be finished.
"Haven't you mentioned your biggest wicked deed yet?" demanded the human-headed, gecko-bodied Reincarnation Hunter.
The Nine Netherworld Entity hesitated repeatedly, then said, "I... I cut down the Primordial Profound Tree, intending to make coffin boards for myself, hoping to revive and live for several epochs."
"What?! You bastard! The Yang Realm's fourth-ranked supreme treasure tree was cut down by you! This was an unsolved case, and it was actually you..." Evidently, even the Reincarnation Hunter, typically mechanical and seemingly dry-souled, was enraged. It was incredibly shocked and wished it could flay him alive, expressing immense indignation.
The Nine Netherworld Entity cried out, "Envoys, please listen to my explanation! Although I cut down the Primordial Profound Tree, I didn't get to make it into coffin boards. It was stolen and fell into the hands of a Taoist priest a hundred times more shameless than me. I wish I could chop him into pieces! It forced me to find Heavenly Gold Stone to make a coffin instead, and the effect is dozens of times worse!"
The Hunter furiously retorted, "That's not the point! I don't care who ended up with your coffin boards. I hate you for destroying the Primordial Profound Tree! You are an eternal sinner! Do you know how important it is? It affects the Yang Realm!"
"Restrain your anger," said the other hunter. "This isn't our concern. After becoming Reincarnation Hunters, our identities are different. We have severed ties with our past. Now, we have only one task: to hunt those who force their way through reincarnation." Beside it, the other hunter's voice was hoarse and no longer sounded as mechanical; some kind of consciousness seemed to be reviving.
The Nine Netherworld Entity said, "Sirs, I... I swear, I didn't kill the fourth-ranked Primordial Profound Tree. Besides, I couldn't possibly kill such an ancient, long-lived Chaos Root. I hid it somewhere."
Chu Feng, listening clearly from not far away, immediately perked up. This rascal actually had the Yang Realm's fourth treasure tree hidden away? That was truly unexpected.
"Tell us, what other major wicked deeds have you committed?" the Reincarnation Hunter demanded.
"I also tore off half a branch from the world's fifth Chaos Root, the Seven Treasures Ancient Tree. However, I presented it as a gift to an old friend from the Sub-Immortal Race—also known as the Banished Immortal Race—because he said he wanted to comprehend the Seven Treasures Divine Art."
The Hunter shouted, "You... why do you always target these supreme treasure trees of the Yang Realm? Do you know what you're doing? You don't understand!"
The other hunter, speaking coldly, said, "Alright, enough nonsense. Your greatest original sin is forcing your way through reincarnation. Tell us your true identity!"
"I am the Nine Netherworld Entity! How could I have forced my way through reincarnation?!"
"Can the Nine Netherworld Entity remember past lives?"
"I am very special, unlike others. I sealed myself in an ancient coffin, which is why I retained partial memories. If it weren't for the Primordial Profound Treasure Tree coffin boards being stolen, I would now have achieved a higher level of Nirvana! My heart aches; it infuriates this old man!"
"Enough nonsense! You are the powerful being dwelling in the Borderland Universe, aren't you? You've been plotting regarding the Yang Realm's reincarnation all along!"
When these words were uttered, Chu Feng heard them clearly and was stunned.
