Chapter 493: Enraged Wu Manyue

He took a look around. Apart from strategic materials, there was nothing else.

It was time to notify everyone to come and move the wood. The timber stored here was enough for ten years of war; it was completely sufficient to deal with the zombie army.

Wu Manyue still wanted to see if there was anything good. Seeing Jiang Fan leave, and fearing he might tamper with the entrance and trap her inside, she could only stomp her foot and quickly follow him out.

The two of them returned to the city wall. A cold wind blew, and her wine-red long dress clung tightly to her body, highlighting her captivating, graceful curves with incredible clarity. One could even vaguely see the silk thread patterns on her bodice. Jiang Fan inadvertently glanced at her, then deliberately looked away.

Wu Manyue gave a sly smile. Not only did she not avoid suspicion, but she also generously turned in a circle, saying, "Go ahead and look if you want to. You've done an enormous favor for your Senior Sister; you can look as much as you like."

Jiang Fan said expressionlessly, "Let's not waste any more time. Let's hurry back and report."

"Wait a moment!" Wu Manyue's beautiful eyes flashed. She gracefully approached, a faint fragrance accompanying her, and placed her slender, jade-like arm on Jiang Fan's shoulder.

Jiang Fan quickly dodged away, saying, "Don't come closer. We're heading to a battlefield later, not a treasure trove." He was quite surprised by Wu Manyue's various spatial abilities—first a jade figurine, then a silver light. Her methods were mysterious and unpredictable. It was definitely wise to keep a distance from this femme fatale.

Wu Manyue giggled sweetly, "Don't worry, Senior Sister isn't trying to harm you. I want to ask you for a favor."

Jiang Fan's gaze shifted, and he understood, a half-smile on his face. "You want me to keep quiet about your spatial storage device."

Wu Manyue felt a slight headache. She had been forced to reveal her spatial storage device in front of Jiang Fan earlier when she had to store large items. But how could a disciple possibly possess such a device? If news got out, she would be in considerable trouble. She could only discuss it with Jiang Fan, hoping he would keep her secret. However, given Jiang Fan's shrewdness, it was unrealistic to expect him to keep quiet without some compensation.

She bit her red lip slightly and said, "I'll give you two war implements. You keep it a secret. How about that?"

Jiang Fan clasped his hands inside his sleeves and said with a smile, "If I wanted them, I'd go in and take them myself. How about this, Senior Sister Wu? I'm quite interested in the jade figurine you used earlier. Give me one, and I'll forget everything that happened today and never mention it again."

"What?" Wu Manyue said angrily, "You're taking advantage of the situation! I don't need to tell you how precious that item is, do I? It's a spatial magic treasure, a life-saving one at that! It's something that can't be bought with any amount of spirit stones!"

Jiang Fan replied, "Then I can't guarantee I won't accidentally let it slip someday."

Seeing his rascally demeanor, Wu Manyue was both angry and helpless. How she wished she could defeat this abominable fellow. After much consideration, she gritted her teeth and said, "Fine! I agree to it. But you must keep it a secret, otherwise I'll be your sworn enemy!"

Normally, even if her spatial storage device were truly exposed, she would never yield to such coercion, because such coercion often repeats endlessly, with no end in sight. It would be better to just fight from the beginning. But today was different. Her spatial storage device contained ten war implements, and their value was too high. She was reluctant to expose them just like that, so she could only swallow her anger and make a deal with Jiang Fan.

Jiang Fan smiled, "Fair enough. As long as you don't tamper with the jade figurine, I will naturally keep it a secret. Furthermore, this matter ends here; there will be no follow-up."

Wu Manyue snorted lightly, "It had better be!" She immediately took a jade figurine from her bosom. She wiped off the three characters 'Wu Manyue' and extracted the vital blood from within it using spiritual energy. A clean, new jade figurine was then tossed into Jiang Fan's arms.

She explained, "Drip in a drop of your vital blood, then write your name with heart's blood. Before using it, activate it with spiritual energy. Within a twenty-zhang radius, you can swap positions with the jade figurine to evade imminent danger. However, if you encounter a crisis like before where there's no time to react, the jade figurine will explode as a substitute. Any other questions?"

Jiang Fan recalled the scene of the jade figurine exploding. He had a sudden realization. So, in other words, this jade figurine could not only teleport, but also act as a substitute to take a fatal blow at a critical moment. It was far more useful than he had imagined!

"Thank you, Senior Sister Wu!" Jiang Fan accepted it joyfully. He immediately dripped a drop of his vital blood into it and inscribed his name with blood. Then, he carefully tucked it into his sleeve.

Wu Manyue watched with a pang of heartache. One of her few life-saving treasures had been given away so cheaply to this little rascal! However, she touched the spatial storage device in her hand, and her heart found its balance again. "There's always a gain for every loss," she thought. "Losing one jade figurine in exchange for war implements worth a hundred times more, I'm still making a huge profit."

Thinking this, a smile reappeared on her face. "Go quickly and inform them to come and move the supplies! I'll guard this place."

Jiang Fan nodded. He was eager to leave immediately; any later, and Wu Manyue would discover something was amiss. So, he dragged the log out of the black hole, hoisted it onto his shoulder, and ran off.

Watching Jiang Fan leave, Wu Manyue stretched languidly, her body and mind filled with joy. "This trip to the battlefield was truly worthwhile!" she thought. "There's no need to contend for the merit list anymore. With so many war implements, why care about those trifles?"

Thinking this, she then gleefully scanned her spatial storage device to look at her treasures. However, after scanning, her expression froze instantly. The spatial storage device, which should have been packed, was empty. Only a pile of copper rust, iron rust, and various powders remained. The war implements were gone, and the precious blueprint was even more conspicuously absent.

"Where are my things?" Wu Manyue was bewildered, wondering if she was seeing things. She scanned inside again. The result was the same. "Did the spatial storage device malfunction and destroy them all?" Wu Manyue preferred to doubt herself rather than suspect that the war implements and blueprint were inherently flawed. "Thankfully, there are still many inside." Wu Manyue quickly jumped into the black hole. She loaded another ten war implements and scanned them into her spatial storage device; they appeared perfectly intact. Only then did her hanging heart finally settle.

"That scared me to death! Good thing there are still plenty of war implements here." Wu Manyue let out a long sigh of relief. She picked up her pace and started walking back. As she crossed the invisible barrier, her sharp eyes noticed a pile of copper rust lying on the ground, identical to what had been in her spatial storage device earlier. An ominous feeling resurfaced in her heart. When she scanned her spatial storage device, the war implements, which had been perfectly fine moments ago, had all turned into copper rust and iron rust. She looked at the copper rust on the ground again, and her heart skipped a beat. She quickly hurried back and pushed a war chariot over. As it crossed the invisible barrier, it immediately turned into copper rust. With a thud, Wu Manyue plopped down onto the ground.

She understood now. Things from this place could not exist outside; otherwise, they would surely decay. This was why Jiang Fan had shown no interest in the items here. It was also why Jiang Fan, despite obtaining the scroll, hadn't put it away but instead opted to copy it by hand. Because he had already discovered that nothing from this place could be taken out!

But Wu Manyue had been brimming with confidence, believing she had stumbled upon an enormous stroke of luck. And, like a fool, she had been kept in the dark and extorted out of a jade figurine by Jiang Fan!

Understanding the truth, Wu Manyue went ballistic with rage. She let out a hysterical, crumbling scream: "Jiang Fan! Jiang Fan! JIANG FAN!!!"

Pfft— Ultimately, her heart burned with fury. She spat out a mouthful of blood mist. Immediately after, her vision went black, and she collapsed to the ground!
