Chapter 930: The Old Monk Who Guided Sakyamuni
A golden ancient ship sailed in, moving against the dark ocean. It had broken free from the demonic eye of the sea. Five hundred golden Arhats sat cross-legged, but only the old monk had his eyes open, chanting Buddhist scriptures.
"Are the numerous skeletal figures on this ship, covered in divine skin, the divine garments of the Great Thunder Sound Temple from ancient times?" Ye Fan was astonished, feeling as if he was looking at a miniature Mount Sumeru.
"Old monk, you're still alive? Weren't you supposed to have entered nirvana two thousand years ago?" roared the Alligator Ancestor, veins throbbing on his forehead. It was clear he had fought this old monk before.
"May my Buddha be merciful, good indeed, good indeed," the old monk spoke. He was merely skin and bones, as thin as firewood, yet enveloped in a sacred, distant Buddhist light.
"Enough of your false compassion. Today, I shall refine you to dust," the Alligator Ancestor said coldly. His black-gold armor gleamed with a chilling metallic luster, making him appear exceptionally mighty, his dark hair flowing freely.
"This old monk should have entered nirvana long ago. For two millennia, I have clung to life solely to guard the demonic eye of the sea. Had it not been for the conflict between you two benefactors, I might never have awakened..."
Ye Fan was startled. These truly were the golden Arhats who served Sakyamuni, and the old monk himself was a venerable ancient Buddha, seemingly of immense origin!
Through his narration, Ye Fan was greatly surprised to learn some old events: they had been stationed at the Great Thunder Sound Temple, tasked with suppressing the heroic spirits of the ancient planet Yinghuo.
Their responsibility was truly heavy and far-reaching.
This ancient planet was once vibrant, a source of life. However, a cross-star domain war erupted, and everything was destroyed.
It was impossible to count how many powerful individuals had died in battle here, or how many sacred bones were interred. This was the burial ground of heroic spirits.
Naturally, this place had also become incredibly sinister. All heroic spirits were sealed within the demonic eye of the Northern Sea, equivalent to a hell on Earth!
"No wonder I couldn't enter the eye of the sea while going against the dark ocean. That portal was sealed by you monks!" The ancient alligator's blood-red eyes grew even colder.
"Benefactor, do not court disaster. Since you could find the demonic eye of the sea, you naturally know how it was formed back then, and what kind of existence is sealed in its deepest part."
"So many years have passed. Even if there were immortals, they would have long turned to dust. What could possibly be left inside?" the Alligator Ancestor said grimly.
"Yes, things from that era could not possibly have survived until now. However, do not forget what this place is: the demonic eye of Yinghuo's Northern Sea, which was once the ultimate yin domain! You have also seen ghost ships appearing, and many things have transformed into yin spirits. How much more so for the existence sealed in the deepest, most yin cavern? By now, there must be supreme-level yin gods and unparalleled heroic spirits that no one could possibly quell," the old monk said with a solemn visage.
Ye Fan's heart trembled. So, within this demonic eye of the sea, sealed were the beings who died in ancient battles, as well as relics of civilizations, and even many unknown ancient secrets and past events!
"Old monk, are you going to act again? Two thousand years, you've certainly lived a long time. Even Sakyamuni revered you as a teacher." The ancient alligator's black-gold armor clanged, its killing intent like swords, slashing wildly in all directions, carving vast ravines on the ground and across the sky.
Ye Fan's mind reeled. He looked at the old monk in disbelief. He was the only living person on the golden ancient ship, and with such a background, what other identity could he possibly possess?!
"My dharma is not comparable to Sakyamuni's. I can only be considered a guide. He forged his own path; I and the few others who were revered as teachers are insignificant," the divine monk said, pressing his palms together.
Ye Fan was surprised, then recalled some records: before his enlightenment, Sakyamuni had several teachers, including Brahmins and ascetics, before he founded his own religion.
This old monk was at least an ancient Buddha, most likely the ascetic from those days!
Before Sakyamuni founded his religion, Buddhist teachings already existed, but they had waned on Earth, becoming fragmented and scattered, even distorted.
This was the old monk who had once guided Sakyamuni!
What an astonishing background! Just thinking about it left Ye Fan dumbfounded, truly stunned, even a little speechless. He was a figure from such a distant past, surely a wise Buddha, who must know everything about ancient Earth!
This was a truly living fossil. If he could sit with him for a day, most of the mysteries in his heart would probably be solved. Thinking of this, Ye Fan became incredibly excited.
"Old monk, who do you think you are? I admit I'm no match for Sakyamuni, but can't I still slay you? Even if you're half his teacher, it won't matter!"
The ancient alligator was powerful and domineering. His black-gold armor clanged, emitting countless sword-lights that slashed across all directions. He took a step forward, advancing menacingly, intending to board the golden ancient ship.
"Namo Ratna Trayaya, Namo Arya Avalokitesvaraya, Bodhisattvaya..." The old monk began to recite the Demon-Subduing Sutra. One golden rune after another leaped out, imprinted in the sky, each weighing a tremendous amount.
"Clang," "Clang"
The Alligator Ancestor struck. Each blow sent sparks flying as it violently collided with the runes. At their level of cultivation, any casual strike embodied the laws of heaven and earth.
If Yinghuo weren't a special ancient planet, their battle might have shattered half of it, for divine chains of order had surged forth, piercing through the boundless void.
This was a fierce battle. Both sides held nothing back, determined to destroy their opponent. It was a clash between Buddha and demon!
"Namo Ratna Trayaya..."
Suddenly, all the golden Arhats who had entered nirvana on the entire ancient ship began to chant. These were the lingering thoughts and fluctuations from their lives, and their Zen chants resonated throughout Yinghuo.
Immeasurable light burst forth, confronting the ancient alligator. The entire golden ancient ship erupted with various patterns, interwoven beneath the sky.
Zen chants!
Like all Bodhisattvas shouting in unison, or Buddhas roaring in fury, the chants seemed to reverberate from ancient times, possessing vast and unfathomable divine power.
This golden ancient ship was a supreme magical artifact, at least of the inherited lineage. It bore formations personally inscribed by Sakyamuni, which now all lit up, intending to subdue all demons in the human world.
Buddhist might surged for thousands of miles!
The Buddhist dharma was profound and unfathomable, capable of liberating all stubborn adversaries, and now it displayed astonishing power. The Zen chants were ceaseless, like a great bell, deafening and all-encompassing. Golden ancient runes flickered, inundating the area.
The Alligator Ancestor was powerful, but facing Sakyamuni's half-teacher, he was somewhat hard-pressed. The power of this ancient ship, combined with the will of the five hundred golden Arhats from their lives, was unimaginable, and the old monk unleashed it all.
Yinghuo was the greatest sea of suffering in the world. The Great Thunder Sound Temple once stood here, and this golden ancient ship held special significance, capable of helping people cross the sea of suffering.
And now, unleashing its power against the Alligator Ancestor was an act of liberating an ancient great demon. The Zen chants were endless, as if three thousand Bodhisattvas and ancient Buddhas were chanting together, their divine power shocking the world. Immeasurable light became eternal, filling both heaven and earth.
Ye Fan watched from afar, not fleeing. There was no escape into the star domain, and rushing to Earth was not a good choice, as bringing the conflict there could have unimaginable consequences.
Since it had come to this, he committed himself completely, waiting quietly for dawn. Even if the old monk was defeated, he would still fight, to avenge his unjustly slain classmates.
This was a holy war, a battle between ancient Saint-level beings. Complex secret techniques and incomprehensible divine principles of order permeated this entire region.
Finally, at dawn, the Zen chants on the golden ancient ship grew fainter, and its radiance dimmed considerably.
"The Buddha is a foot tall, but the demon is ten feet tall!" The ancient alligator sneered, "You think you can liberate me? Not unless Sakyamuni himself returns."
"This poor monk is old, my qi and blood are depleted. I should have left this world long ago. Indeed, I cannot liberate you, benefactor, but I have seen your future: your evil has reached its limit."
"Nonsense!" The Alligator Ancestor would not believe it.
The ancient old monk chanted a Buddhist name. The radiance of his body dimmed and slowly faded, as he was about to enter nirvana, transforming into a dao bone and merging with the golden ancient ship.
The ship glowed and moved towards the demonic eye of the sea to fill it. By now, the seawater had already flowed in, and there was no longer any water on the ground.
"How foolish! You're about to die, yet you don't seek a better place, insisting on blocking the demonic eye of the sea," the Alligator Ancestor sneered.
"If I don't go to hell, who will?" The old monk's final words echoed as he, along with the entire ancient ship, rushed into the burial ground of heroic spirits, filling the eye of the sea.
The Alligator Ancestor turned around, his black-gold battle armor gleaming with a chilling luster, making him appear as if forged from demonic gold, his divine might unmatched.
At this moment, the first ray of dawn shot forth, making him appear even more terrifying. His imposing figure was tall and straight, oppressive enough to suffocate, his long black hair cascaded down, and his blood-red eyes stared coldly at Ye Fan.
"Ant, you dare harbor murderous intent towards me? What if your physique is special? I can crush a whole group of people like you with one foot!" He was full of disdain, not taking Ye Fan seriously at all. Having dealt with the ancient Buddha, he naturally cared even less. No one in this star domain could apprehend him.
"You alligator, today it's either you or me! One of us will die!" Ye Fan roared.
"A mere insect dares to challenge a god in the heavens? You can't even see how high my toes are if you look up. You're unworthy!" the Alligator Ancestor said with extreme contempt.
Then, he unleashed his immeasurable Dharma Body, which rapidly expanded. He lifted a massive foot and stomped towards Ye Fan, intending to crush him with a single step, truly treating him like an ant.
He acted very naturally, genuinely treating Ye Fan as an ant, not considering him a threat at all, given his superior cultivation level.
For Ye Fan, this was the ultimate humiliation. He said no more. As he retreated using the "Walking" secret technique, he vibrated the cauldron above his head. The ancient scroll of immortal treasures flew out, with endless stars shimmering. Then, with a forceful shake, a person flew out from within.
It was an old man, sealed within a divine source block. He was skeletal and emaciated, sitting cross-legged, without any signs of life, yet he caused an extreme sense of dread.
His upper body was bare and bony, his lower body wrapped in an animal skin. In his hand, he held a smooth, luminous white bone staff. He appeared very primitive, yet he instilled a chilling sensation.
A dazzling crimson iron chain bound him, almost constricting into his flesh. Many intricate and profound dao patterns were engraved upon it. This was a Crimson Divine Chain.
Upon seeing this, the Alligator Ancestor still stomped down with his foot. He perceived the terrifying nature of the person within the source and wanted to strike first, intending to crush the old man to death with his ancient Saint-level combat power.
"Bang!"
This stomp was undeniably domineering. Even an Archaic Ancestor King would be pulverized if struck by it; there was no suspense. The Alligator Ancestor had shown no mercy.
However, the divine source block merely shattered and scattered, transforming into brilliant divine light that burned away. The old man, however, was completely unharmed. Furthermore, a terrifying fluctuation erupted from him, like surging waves crashing against the shore, or chaotic stones piercing the sky!
All of this was the aura of this awakening Archaic Saint!
"Boom!"
Heaven and earth roared as if an ocean had breached its dam; the entire sky collapsed. This Archaic Saint "whooshed" open his eyes.
The light was blinding. Even the powerful Alligator Ancestor cried out in alarm, tumbling backward three times to avoid those two soul-stirring gazes!
It was as if two bolts of lightning had struck between heaven and earth—two materialized beams of light that instantly shot into the firmament, shattering the sky, their energy piercing the constellations!
His eyes were terrifyingly potent, a million times brighter than divine lamps, like two condensed suns embedded in his eye sockets, burning fiercely. No one could meet his gaze.
"Senior, please slay this demon! He has bullied my human race too much!" Ye Fan transmitted loudly.
He didn't need to say anything. This Archaic Saint was not to be insulted; someone had dared to stomp on his body, and he had already perceived it.
