"Level four," Xu Zhi murmured, taking a deep breath from his living room sofa. Less than half an hour had passed. The feedback from the Wizard Era was immense; he had instantly broken through to the level of a Fourth-Tier Wizard. A significant portion of the residual energy remained undigested, and once fully absorbed, it would likely propel him to the peak of the Fourth-Tier. If he could completely stabilize at that point, there was even hope of breaking through to the Fifth-Tier Wizard level.
This was already more than he could have wished for. It was important to remember that the energy his massive form required was incomparable to that of an ordinary wizard. Without his prior preparations to cope with this biological extinction event, he might have been instantly obliterated.
"Level four is already excellent! Those wizards in there have cultivated for ages," Xu Zhi thought. He went to his yard, got on his electric bike, and after about ten minutes, arrived at the familiar, secluded patch of woods and the river. He considered using half his power to test a wizardry spell.
"War Hammer of Air!"
*Boom!*
The entire riverbed shook. Pebbles, sand, and stones from the main river instantly shot up with splashes of water, showering the ground and creating a spectacular waterfall-like scene. When everything settled, the river was unrecognizable. A large crater now lay in its center.
"I only used half my strength—is this what a Fourth-Tier Wizard can do?" Xu Zhi stared blankly at the massive pit. His village had few young people, mostly elderly and middle-aged residents, making it sparsely populated. The remote location meant the loud bang might not have been heard, but Xu Zhi still quickly got back on his electric bike and rode off. As he rode, he occasionally looked back. "How utterly depraved! Who was so wicked as to come to our village riverbed and dig sand, leaving such a huge pit in our river?" he muttered, feigning indignation.
Xu Zhi leisurely rode his electric bike, not returning straight to his yard. He was thoroughly relaxed. A breakthrough deserved a celebration, and he now had extra money in his bank account. With the swarm intelligence's sub-brain shielding him, he wasn't worried about anyone tracing his true identity.
Soon, he happily bought a case of beer from a small county supermarket and then got some vegetables from the market, filling his electric bike to the brim before returning to his yard. He didn't bother to look at the grand sandbox world. After all, it had just experienced another apocalypse. The Wizard Era had completely ended. The remaining "survivors" from the two wizard eras, ancient beings from the Old Wizard Era, had retreated into the deep sea, awaiting the next era to flourish once more.
He thought for a moment, put the vegetables and beer into the refrigerator, then popped open a can of beer, taking a satisfying sip. He went into the living room, opened his "Genesis" notebook, and casually completed the final entry for the Great Wizard Era:
"Late Great Wizard Era: The world was covered by the footprints of wizards seeking truth. The Cthulhu Evil God suddenly descended upon the world. Wizards and Cthulhu fought a final battle. The earth shattered, the sky collapsed, and the Fourth Great Biological Extinction began, wiping out seventy percent of life. Wizards perished."
"Biological Extinction at the end of the Great Wizard Era."
With just a few strokes, he brought the long civilization of the Wizard Era to a close.
"It's time to take this opportunity to transform the sandbox again," Xu Zhi thought. But as he set down his notebook in the living room, he dismissed the idea. "I may not need to interfere. It's already a mature orchard world; perhaps it can recover from the disaster on its own. Since the Evil Eye gene could pave the way for wizards, what about the Slime gene? Or the Undertaker Chicken gene? Can they also open up paths for cultivation? Or perhaps, they will naturally propel themselves toward entirely new civilizations." Xu Zhi was in no hurry. Natural evolution, he mused, was often superior to deliberate intervention.
Seizing the opportunity, he logged into the forum, engaging in his usual "spying on the enemy camp" routine to see if there was anything he could use for reference.
The forum was incredibly lively.
"This is the consequence of 'burning books and burying scholars alive'!"
"Red-named players, come out and take your beating online!!"
"While I believe every player has the right to choose their second life and that it's quite fun to be a world-dominating villain—and you even spurred the birth of gods in this world, making it interesting for us to play heroes against you villains... BUT!! You destroyed an entire civilization, you scoundrels!"
"Come out and take your beating online! (Burning with rage)"
In the forum, "Little Brain Tiger Descending the Mountain" was furiously cursing. It was now in Emperor Medusa's hands, screen black!
Akina Mountain Speed, feeling a pang of pity, softly comforted him, "Brother, try to think positively. It might not be that painful. Perhaps you weren't knocked out, but merely dissected?"
Little Brain Tiger Descending the Mountain: ???
Everyone else was stunned too.
"Don't worry," Akina Mountain Speed typed back, unable to suppress a chuckle. "There's no stopping Medusa when it comes to this, but I predicted it long ago and made arrangements. You're just being researched. The pleasure of having your body played with by a beautiful empress is something others can't even imagine! Brother, let us journey together to the source of happiness!"
"How many years will the research take?" Little Brain Tiger Descending the Mountain asked.
"It'll be quick; based on previous cases, about seven or eight years," Akina Mountain Speed replied promptly.
That wasn't so bad. Seven or eight years in-game was only about two hours in reality, so he could wait.
However, Akina Mountain Speed then delivered a critical blow: "I forgot to tell you, the current Medusa has integrated the 'Blood of Immortality' and only awakens for five years out of every hundred."
Upon hearing that, even the onlookers in the forum couldn't remain calm.
"Holy cow!! So if it takes seven or eight years to research, doesn't that mean there'll be a hundred-year gap in between? (Terrifying)"
"Making Saintess Linda wait a hundred years? (Husband-gazing stone emoji)"
By now, everyone genuinely sympathized, feeling as if they were watching a grand epic film: a desperate reversal, where the two sides finally confirmed their feelings amidst a rain of blood before the great war, only for the war to end with them separated by heaven and earth. Everyone felt sorrow for him.
"This doesn't align with those movies at all!"
"But indeed, they are helpless. Even Akina Mountain Speed, who orchestrated everything, was dissected and researched by Medusa. Without power, everyone is just a salted fish awaiting slaughter."
Akina Mountain Speed: "Don't worry, in a hundred years, I'll give you a surprise! It will absolutely make you overjoyed!"
"Really?" Little Brain Tiger Descending the Mountain couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope.
Then, the discussion shifted to what would happen to the wizarding world without the Evil Eyes. What would the future era look like? They were worried and somewhat concerned.
However, there was no longer any way to know what was happening inside. Times were changing, and they had developed deep feelings for that world. They could only wait a hundred years for the Book of Light to awaken and see what the world had become after that final battle. Perhaps the brilliant era of wizards could only be relived in the "Wizard Community," which was soon to enter open beta.
