Chapter 4091: Taking Second-Grade Dao Pills

Wang Ruyan nodded and said, "Those two were very strong. If my husband hadn't mastered a Dao technique, he wouldn't have been able to hold them off for long."

For cultivators, training the physical body to its peak results in a True Spirit. A True Spirit trained to its peak becomes an Immortal Body. Generally, body cultivators find it easier to achieve a True Spirit. Non-body cultivators like Wang Ruyan, Wang Qingshan, and Wang Yingjie primarily rely on external aids to become True Spirits. Even without external help, as their cultivation improves, they will eventually achieve True Spirit status. However, cultivating to a peak True Spirit is considerably difficult.

True Spirits differ in grade, affecting their endurance and physical strength. An ordinary True Spirit can withstand a Profound Sky Treasure with its physical body, a top-tier True Spirit can endure a low-grade immortal artifact, and a peak True Spirit can resist a mid-grade immortal artifact. True Spirits of the same grade can also have varying levels of physical strength. Wang Changsheng, for instance, has mastered the Law of Strength, making his physical power far greater than Wang Ruyan's. Furthermore, different True Spirits possess unique innate divine abilities.

After ascending to the Immortal Realm, Wang Changsheng consumed numerous immortal elixirs and wines for body tempering. While his physical body and strength both grew, the increase was predominantly in strength. This made him considerably stronger than other top-tier True Spirits, though still inferior to peak True Spirits.

With the aid of a Dao technique, Wang Changsheng's strength was amplified, allowing him to send a peak True Spirit flying. However, this was the extent of it; he couldn't severely injure them with a single strike. If he were to cultivate into a peak True Spirit and then use the Dao technique, the situation would be entirely different.

The gap between top-tier True Spirits and peak True Spirits is substantial, not only in terms of endurance but also physical strength. This disparity cannot be overcome merely by consuming body-tempering immortal elixirs or wines.

"I didn't expect Nine-Star Immortal Domain to have so many powerful experts," Wang Changsheng exclaimed. "They've cultivated to peak True Spirit at the late Golden Immortal stage and even fully mastered their Laws."

Law attacks are far superior to divine ability attacks. At the same cultivation realm, ordinary or special Laws of the same level cannot withstand a Supreme Law. Wang Changsheng's previous use of the Soul Law to eradicate a Golden Immortal from the Murong Family serves as the best proof, unless the enemy possesses items capable of defending against soul attacks.

A fully mastered special Law can resist attacks from a minor-mastered Supreme Law. While the Supreme Law can still injure the opponent, it cannot instantly kill them. However, a fully mastered ordinary Law cannot withstand a minor-mastered Supreme Law; the user would certainly be severely wounded and would perish after enduring a few more Supreme Law attacks.

When Wang Changsheng uses a soul attack against a Golden Immortal cultivator, it's like dropping a stone into a lake—there's an effect, but it's minimal. However, when he uses a Soul Law attack against a Golden Immortal who has minor-mastered a Law, it's akin to filling in the entire lake. The disparity in power between the two is immense.

For most Immortals, mastering a soul divine ability is quite beneficial; even a momentary influence on the enemy could decide victory or defeat. However, mastering a Soul Law is not merely about influence; it directly annihilates fellow cultivators who have mastered Laws of the same level.

The two late-stage Golden Immortal cultivators had fully mastered special Laws, allowing them to resist Wang Changsheng's minor-mastered Soul Law. However, they wouldn't be able to withstand multiple attacks from a Supreme Law.

If Wang Changsheng had used a soul immortal artifact to attack them, he could still have injured them. But to severely wound them, the enemies would have to stand still and continuously endure the immortal artifact's attacks, which is simply impossible. It would have been far less effective than a single strike from Wang Changsheng's Soul Law!

"Only after coming out did I realize there's always someone better," Wang Ruyan said with a smile. "With these second-grade Dao Pills, our progress in cultivating Laws can accelerate significantly."

There were six second-grade Dao Pills, each containing a different Law: the Law of Strength, the Law of Water, the Law of Fire, the Law of Sound, the Law of Earth, and the Law of Metal.

When immortal alchemists refine Dao Pills, an entire batch will always share the same attribute, each pill containing a single type of Law power. It's impossible for a single batch to contain multiple Law powers. Once an Immortal has consumed a Dao Pill containing the Law of Fire, for instance, any subsequent Dao Pill containing the Law of Fire, regardless of its grade, will have no further effect.

This allows immortal alchemists to exchange Dao Pills with others, ensuring mutual benefit.

Wang Changsheng had already consumed a Dao Pill containing the Law of Strength, so he couldn't take another. However, he could consume the Dao Pill containing the Law of Water.

They put away the items on the ground, sat cross-legged, and began meditating to recover.

Three days passed, and they fully recovered their peak condition.

"Wife, if we take these Dao Pills to cultivate our Laws, we can significantly increase our strength," Wang Changsheng suggested. "Then, if we encounter another Heaven's Chosen Supreme, we won't be in such a sorry state." He then created a simple, separate stone chamber and entered it.

With a flip of his right hand, a delicate blue jade box appeared. He opened the box to reveal a watery-blue pill with two Dao patterns on its surface.

A second-grade Dao Pill containing the Law of Water!

In the Law Space, the Law of Water tree stood twenty-five zhang tall. Wang Changsheng picked up the second-grade Dao Pill with two fingers and put it into his mouth.

The pill melted immediately upon entering his mouth, and a vast energy surged within his abdomen. In his dantian, a Nascent Soul resembling Wang Changsheng continuously formed hand seals, as a powerful surge of energy poured into it. He circulated his cultivation technique, guiding this energy toward the Law tree, and closed his eyes.

The Law of Water tree greedily absorbed this immense energy, rapidly growing taller and sprouting more branches and leaves. A month later, Wang Changsheng opened his eyes. In the Law Space, the Law of Water tree had grown to fifty zhang, while his other Law trees had reached forty zhang.

A Law tree reaching eighty zhang signifies the full mastery of that Law. The second-grade Dao Pill had an excellent effect; the Law of Water tree, which was originally only fifteen zhang tall, had now reached fifty zhang, more than tripling its height.

When he took a first-grade Dao Pill during the True Immortal stage, his Law tree grew from about one zhang to seven zhang, increasing by over six times.

With a larger base height, the proportional increase was less, but this was still very impressive. As a Law tree grows, its growth rate slows down, which is one of the main reasons why many Golden Immortals spend millions, or even tens of millions, of years cultivating their Laws.

Wang Changsheng estimated that without consuming the second-grade Dao Pill, it would have taken him at least three million years to grow the Law tree to fifty zhang. This is merely the time for cultivating the Law itself; if he engaged in other cultivation during that period, it would take even longer.

This way, he could dedicate more time to cultivation and opening more Immortal Apertures.

Immortals must cultivate both Laws and their overall cultivation level. These are distinct and time-consuming processes. Some Immortals prioritize general cultivation, advancing quickly in cultivation but slowly in Law progress. This leads to some Golden Immortals reaching the late stage with only minor mastery of their Laws. Conversely, some Immortals focus heavily on Law cultivation, causing their overall cultivation to stagnate. This can result in Immortals remaining at the early Golden Immortal stage for millions of years after advancing to Golden Immortal, despite having fully mastered their Laws.

For most Immortals, overall cultivation takes precedence, with Laws being secondary. The former is more common, the latter less so. This is primarily because Laws are easy to get started with, but difficult to minor-master, and extremely challenging to fully master. Consequently, most Golden Immortal cultivators only achieve minor mastery of Laws, while having higher cultivation levels.

It is very difficult to balance both Law cultivation and overall cultivation simultaneously. Therefore, seeking external aids is essential. Of course, some rare special physiques possess significant advantages in both cultivation and Law comprehension, allowing them to balance both without external assistance, but such physiques are exceptionally rare, perhaps one in a million.
