Chapter 2044: Life and Death Crisis

Seeing the demons flee without looking back, Zu An felt helpless. Where was the trust between people?

He could only wave towards the city wall. The Little Demon Empress immediately understood and ordered her army to leave the city and pursue the fleeing demons. The demons were utterly terrified by this point; it was time to pursue them relentlessly. Hu Qianxiao, feeling his great saber itching for action, quickly summoned his subordinates and charged out, leading the way.

The demon formations were in disarray, making it impossible to organize effective resistance. What followed was a one-sided slaughter. The once mighty and seemingly invincible million-strong demon army now numbered only a few tens of thousands.

Witnessing the completely one-sided situation, the Little Demon Empress could hardly believe it. She flew to Zu An's side, her eyes filled with admiration. "A'Zu, you're incredible!"

Zu An waved his hand, and a defensive barrier appeared around her. "Be careful," he warned, "these radiation residues are harmful to your body."

"So those things are called radiation?" The Little Demon Empress paused, then smiled. "Don't worry, we can feel harmful substances eroding our bodies, but as long as our vital energy circulates, we can quickly expel them."

Now it was Zu An's turn to be surprised. He hadn't expected cultivators in this world to be able to defend against radiation in such a way. It seemed that among the myriad laws of the universe, different paths often led to the same destination.

The Little Demon Empress's eyes shimmered, and her heart was filled with affection. If they hadn't been in the sky with countless people watching, she probably would have instinctively thrown herself into his arms.

The Little Demon Empress was universally recognized as the most enchanting and seductive woman among the demon race; a single glance or smile from her could make countless men weak in the knees. There was also a legend that if a man so much as touched her, her entire body would become as soft as cotton. Unfortunately, no one knew if this was true, nor did anyone dare to ask the Regent about it. However, her naturally seductive aura was universally acknowledged, constantly exuding an irresistible charm.

From the city wall, Aunt Xiao, who had been watching the two, couldn't help but cover her face. "Oh, my Lady," she muttered, "if you're going to be so love-struck, at least consider where you are! All these soldiers are watching." She secretly observed the reactions of others, only to find that they didn't have any particular expressions. Instead, they seemed to think it was only right that the noblest and most beautiful woman of the demon race should be with the most powerful man.

At that moment, the faces of the many soldiers were filled more with excitement. They had been stifled by the demons for days, but now they had finally launched a successful counterattack and exacted their revenge. Everyone was venting days of accumulated anger, frantically pursuing the demons, and even those remaining in the city were cheering on their comrades until their voices were hoarse.

"A'Zu..." The Little Demon Empress's eyes were almost welling up with emotion.

Zu An was about to respond to her when his expression suddenly changed. He sharply turned around and gazed towards the nearby battlefield. The entire battlefield was dotted with several large craters, over a thousand meters in diameter and several hundred meters deep—the aftermath of the recent hydrogen bomb explosions. The demons caught within the craters were mostly vaporized; only the most powerful among them were strong enough to leave behind faint shadows on the crater walls. However, outside the craters, there were numerous charred bodies. Though many were missing limbs, they still had some remnants of their forms.

Normally, this would have been expected, but the unsettling thing was that these remnants were slowly trembling. If only one or two limbs twitched, it might have been residual muscle spasms, but all the detached limbs trembling simultaneously looked exceptionally eerie.

"What's going on?" The Little Demon Empress glanced at the scene and felt a chill down her spine.

"Go back to the city first," Zu An instructed, "and tell your subordinates to prepare their defenses. Also, order the teams pursuing the demons not to return for now." He gently pushed her waist, sending her back to the city wall with a soft force. The scene on the ground was far too bizarre, and he had an ominous premonition. Fortunately, the city's army had pursued the demons quite far and were no longer on the battlefield.

The Little Demon Empress returned to the city wall, her flushed, bashful cheeks now serious. She was a woman who understood serious matters, or she would never have made it this far. She issued dozens of orders in succession, meticulously arranging everything in the city to prevent any hot-headed soldiers from rashly charging out at this moment.

Just then, gasps of alarm rang out. The Little Demon Empress subconsciously turned around, and upon seeing the scene outside the city, she couldn't help but gasp. Countless demon remains were squirming and gathering together, forming a gigantic ball of flesh. It was important to remember that there had originally been over a million demons on the battlefield. While many had been vaporized by the hydrogen bombs, the remaining severed limbs and body parts were certainly not a small number. All these bodies gathering together formed an extremely massive ball of flesh, standing there like a towering mountain.

Zu An's expression turned grave. With his cultivation, he could naturally tell that those demons had been dead moments ago, but how had their corpses suddenly "resurrected"? The thing kept squirming, with many demon bodies visibly rolling and twisting inside, making it exceptionally repulsive and chilling.

Clearly, letting this thing continue wouldn't lead to anything good. With a flick of his finger, Zu An sent hundreds of sword qi streaking towards it. The meatball's defenses weren't strong; it offered no resistance when the sword qi struck it. It burst open, forming hundreds of holes, and countless bodies fell from its surface onto the ground. Even powerful demons like the War Priest he had encountered earlier on Mount Zi would have likely perished on the spot if their bodies had sustained so many terrifying large holes. Yet, the meatball continued to squirm as if nothing had happened. Soon, the fallen bodies were re-attracted and merged back into it. Before long, the hundreds of holes gradually merged and healed, showing no trace of injury.

Zu An was speechless.

Inside Monte City, people cried out in alarm, "What kind of monster is that?"

The Little Demon Empress frowned deeply, pondering records of demons in the demon race's history, searching for any relevant clues.

Just then, Zu An let out a cold snort and slowly raised his right hand, summoning the White Lotus True Flame. Soon, a flame saber hundreds of meters long appeared vertically in the sky. Looking at the immense flame saber, one could feel its destructive power even from a great distance. Many among the demon race exclaimed in awe, remarking that the Regent, so young, was truly unfathomable. They wondered how he had cultivated such abilities, noting that even the old Demon Emperor in his prime was probably no more powerful than this.

At that moment, the hundreds of meters long flame saber heavily struck the enormous corpse-ball, splitting it directly into two halves. Wherever the flame saber passed, countless bodies ignited again. A cheer erupted from Monte City, but Zu An's expression remained grave. This corpse-ball was simply too massive; with the remnants of a million demons combined, even the hundreds of meters long flame saber seemed somewhat minuscule in comparison.

Sure enough, the upper part of the corpse-ball was split into two halves, but by the time it reached the lower section, the flame saber's power was exhausted, unable to completely cleave such an enormous corpse-ball. Countless demon corpses twisted and writhed, rejoining the upper half of the ball. Many bodies seemed to act with a will of their own, frantically crawling over to protect the burning corpses. Soon, countless bodies enveloped the two burning halves, forcibly extinguishing the White Lotus True Flame with their sheer numbers.

At this point, many bodies on the corpse-ball's surface caved inward, seemingly forming two deep eye sockets and a mouth, which then stared intently at Zu An in the sky. In that instant, Zu An felt his hair stand on end, as if he were facing a life-or-death crisis. The next second, the corpse-ball suddenly opened its mouth, instantly obscuring the sky, and swallowed Zu An whole.
