Having made their decision, the two wasted no time and immediately went their separate ways.
The old woman walked quickly, passing through a corridor and entering a remarkably simple room in moments. Inside, a young man, dressed in a white robe but looking gaunt and pale, was sitting at a stone table, engrossed in a shimmering silver book.
"Mother, what brings you here so suddenly?" the young man asked with a smile, immediately setting down his book as he saw the old woman enter.
"Ming'er, quickly pack your things. We're going straight to the Immortal Welcome Palace where the Long family resides," the old woman said, her previous gloom replaced by a look of loving concern as she faced her son.
"The Long family! It seems the person you captured is quite troublesome," the young man said, frowning slightly with a hint of helplessness.
"What? You know about this too?" the old woman asked, sounding surprised.
"Mother, have you forgotten? Although my magic power isn't high, I've awakened my True Dragon Blood and gained some Celestial Ear divine abilities. I haven't left the room, but I overheard parts of your conversation," the young man explained with a chuckle.
"So that's it! But don't worry, Ming'er. No matter what, your father and I will safely transfer that person's inherited artifact into your body. This way, not only will your chronic illness be cured, but you can also use this inherited spiritual power to break through your bottleneck, potentially forming a Golden Core right away. As for whoever is behind that boy, once we're with the Long family, they'll never dare to seek us out," the old woman reassured him.
"Ever since Mr. Tianjing prescribed using an inherited item to cure my chronic illness back then, you and father have been searching for a cultivator who possesses an inherited artifact and hasn't yet unsealed it. I had a premonition that it might cause considerable trouble. Now that you've finally found someone, I suppose even if I tried to dissuade you, Mother, you wouldn't easily let go," the young man said with a sigh after a moment of silence.
"What nonsense are you talking about? Your father and I are facing our next great heavenly tribulation soon, which is why we finally decided to have you, our precious flesh and blood. There's no way we'd let a parent bury their child. As long as that person isn't one of the Three Emperors or Seven Demon Kings, your maternal uncle and grandfather will absolutely ensure your safety. Besides, now that you've awakened your True Dragon Blood, you've automatically become a disciple of the Long family. If the Long family doesn't protect you, what kind of 'Foremost True Spirit Clan' do they claim to be?" the old woman said, her expression growing somewhat grim, with a hint of resentment in her voice.
"Alright then! Since Mother has made up her mind, we should leave immediately. That Integration stage old monster might arrive here very soon," the young man said, shaking his head, his tone suddenly shifting to one of urgency.
"Impossible. I thoroughly searched that boy's body beforehand; there were no marks left on him," the old woman said, startled, a mix of belief and doubt on her face.
"Mother, you are not an Integration stage cultivator, after all. And from what I know, Integration stage cultivators have at least three or four methods to plant divine sense marks that can easily evade the divine sense scans of Void Refinement stage cultivators. Although I haven't cultivated much magic power these past years, I haven't read all those cultivation texts for nothing," the young man said with a bitter smile.
"Ming'er, you have a point. Let's not pack anything then; we should leave right away. Your father has already gone to retrieve the boy," the woman's expression changed, becoming somewhat anxious.
At the same time, in another secret chamber, the black-browed old man looked at the person lying motionless on the ground, his expression complex.
"Little Daoist priest, don't blame my wife and me for being ruthless. For my Ming'er to recover, we must take the inherited artifact within your body. Without it, your foundation will likely be completely ruined, making life worse than death. At that time, this old man will send you peacefully on your way, without pain or sound," the old man mumbled, his face suddenly twisting into a malevolent grimace.
The person on the ground was indeed Qi Lingzi, the young Daoist priest. However, it was unclear what the old man and woman had done to him, as he remained unconscious.
The black-browed old man suddenly flipped his hand, and a black light flashed between his fingers. A dark, ink-like talisman instantly appeared. With a flick of his wrist, the talisman transformed into a strange grey light, which, with a flicker, vanished into Qi Lingzi's body.
Next, the old man opened his mouth again and actually spat out a cloud of black mist, within which a small, constantly spinning green copper bell was faintly visible. The black-browed old man raised his arm and slightly bent a finger. A soft "ding-dong" sound echoed from within the black mist.
A bizarre scene unfolded. Qi Lingzi, who had been lying on the ground, twitched once, then actually rolled and scrambled to his feet on his own. He stood facing the old man, his eyes tightly shut. At this moment, the young Daoist priest's face was utterly blank, as if he were a puppet.
The old man chanted incantations, and spell after spell shot out from his hand. The green copper bell immediately emitted clear, varying chiming sounds. Though seemingly ordinary, the bell's sounds, upon entering Qi Lingzi's ears, caused him to slowly open his eyes. His gaze was first blank, but gradually gained some clarity, though his face remained expressionless.
Seeing this, the black-browed old man let out a great sigh of relief. He reached out, grabbed the copper bell, tucked it into his sleeve, and turned to leave without another word! To the faint chiming sounds emanating from his sleeve, Qi Lingzi woodenly took a step and followed him out, not leaving his side.
A short while later, two streaks of dazzling light, one black and one grey, flew out from the small mountain. After a brief hover, they shot towards Mount Nine Immortals. Within these two streaks of light were none other than the gaunt young man and Qi Lingzi. After a few flashes, the two streaks of light vanished without a trace into the horizon.
Barely the time it takes to eat a meal later, a blinding green rainbow shot forth from another direction. Its light dimmed above the small mountain, suddenly revealing two men. One was exceptionally handsome, while the other's appearance was unremarkable. They were precisely Hai Dashao and Han Li.
"They're not here!" Han Li muttered to himself in surprise after sweeping his divine sense through the small mountain below like a storm.
"What? They took Junior Brother to another place! Master, do you still have a way to find them?" Hai Dashao asked nervously upon hearing Han Li's words.
"Don't worry. Although the divine sense marks I planted within you and Qi Lingzi are extremely faint, they will have a strong reaction periodically. When that happens, I'll know exactly where they've gone," Han Li said with unusual calm.
"That's good then! Still, these people are truly audacious, daring to openly abduct someone during the Ten Thousand Treasures Convention. Don't the law enforcement cultivators do anything about it?" Hai Dashao said, first relaxing his expression, then growing somewhat indignant.
"Heh heh! If an ordinary cultivator were to do such a thing, law enforcement cultivators would naturally step forward to stop them. But if it's an existence above the Void Refinement stage, these law enforcement cultivators would likely have to think carefully. If it's an Integration stage cultivator involved, these law enforcement cultivators would most likely pretend not to see anything and immediately turn away," Han Li said with a cold laugh.
"Are you saying that old woman is an Integration stage cultivator?" Hai Dashao's expression changed upon hearing this.
"An Integration stage cultivator is unlikely. Otherwise, they wouldn't be so cautious about avoiding detection," Han Li shook his head.
"That's true," Hai Dashao thought for a moment, then nodded in agreement.
After lingering in the air for about half an hour more, Han Li's eyebrows suddenly twitched. "I found them! They've gone towards Mount Nine Immortals. Let's go!" No sooner had the words left his lips than Han Li, without waiting for Hai Dashao to even show a delighted expression, spun around. A surge of green light enveloped both their figures. A green rainbow reappeared, shooting forth towards Mount Nine Immortals.
Three hours later, Han Li and Hai Dashao quietly appeared above a magnificent, golden and jade-encrusted palace. This palace was divided into ten levels and was, remarkably, one of the nine Immortal Welcome Palaces. Han Li's brows furrowed slightly as he gazed intently at a particular floor of the palace, his eyes unusually grim.
"Master, you haven't made a mistake, have you? Is Qi Lingzi really here?" Hai Dashao asked, his face a little pale and his voice somewhat strained. Clearly, he understood the implications of Qi Lingzi being brought to this place.
"No mistake. At such a close range, simple restrictive barriers cannot possibly block my senses," Han Li said, his gaze flickering.
"Could that person really be an Integration stage cultivator? But if so, why would Junior Brother have been outside Mount Nine Immortals in the first place?" Hai Dashao mumbled.
"It's simple! Either that old woman really is an Integration stage cultivator, and the cave dwelling on Mount Nine Immortals was just her temporary abode, specifically used for shady dealings. Or, even if she isn't an Integration stage cultivator, she has some connection to an Integration stage cultivator residing here and deliberately came here seeking their protection. They want to use this to deter our pursuit!" Han Li said calmly.
"Then, what do you plan to do, Master?" Hai Dashao hesitated for a long while before asking in a low voice.
"You go down first. Find someone and inquire which family resides on the ninth level of this place," Han Li didn't answer directly but instead gave an instruction.
"Understood, Master!" Hai Dashao's spirits lifted upon hearing Han Li's words, and he quickly agreed respectfully.
"I'll send you down. Once you've managed to find out, meet me at the nearest small mountain peak. I'll be waiting for you there," Han Li instructed again. With a flick of his sleeve, a burst of green light enveloped Hai Dashao and directly sent him to the ground. Han Li, changing direction, flew towards a low hill dozens of miles away. Although Mount Nine Immortals was composed of nine giant peaks, there were naturally also some inconspicuous unnamed hilltops scattered throughout the mountain range.
As soon as Hai Dashao landed, he glanced towards the Immortal Welcome Palace. However, instead of walking towards it immediately, he took a deep breath and rushed towards the nearest bustling area.
