As soon as the firebird appeared, it immediately soared into the sky with a clear cry.
Han Li took a deep breath, and a jade-white hand extended from his sleeve. He flexed his five fingers, then flicked them out one after another. Streaks of five-colored cold flames shot out from his fingertips, appearing and disappearing in a flash. Each streak that struck the golden firebird significantly diminished its brilliant light.
All five streaks of cold flame struck the golden firebird, causing its golden flames to recede with a mournful cry. Its light then flickered, and it instantly reverted to a golden-yellow pill. The pill was thumb-sized, with dense patterns inscribed on its surface. Its brilliant golden color and its recent transformation made it appear incredibly mysterious.
"There's no mistake, this is the Void Spirit Pill!" Liu Shuier exclaimed with a delighted cry, her beautiful eyes flashing with joy the moment the pill reverted to its true form.
Shi Kun stared at the pill, his face also showing barely suppressed excitement. But then, as if remembering something, his expression slightly changed, and he urgently asked Han Li, "Brother Han, is there only one Void Spirit Pill in the bottle?"
Han Li didn't answer. Instead, with a single hand gesture, he pointed at the purple-gold vial. The vial trembled, and golden light flickered again from its mouth. Then, with a muffled thud, another golden firebird flew out from within.
"Excellent! There's another one!" Shi Kun burst into joyful laughter upon seeing this.
"Both of you seniors desire this pill. Since there are two Void Spirit Pills, it's just enough for each of you to have one. Do either of you fellow Daoists have any objections?" Han Li asked with a slight chuckle and a meaningful look at the two people opposite him.
Hearing this question, Liu Shuier and Shi Kun's expressions shifted, and they exchanged glances. Shi Kun's face grew serious, while Liu Shuier's beautiful eyes remained unusually cool.
"Alright, let's proceed this way," Shi Kun said with a long sigh after a moment of hesitation. "Although my master strictly instructed me to retrieve all the Void Spirit Pills, since Fairy Liu is unwilling to yield, this is the only way."
"I have no objections either," Liu Shuier slowly agreed, the coldness in her eyes softening. "At least I won't return empty-handed, and I'll have something to report to my master."
Seeing that neither of them objected, Han Li nodded and then flicked his hand twice at the two pills floating in the air.
*Swish, swish!*
Two golden-yellow pills shot out, and after a flicker, landed in front of Liu Shuier and Shi Kun respectively. Liu Shuier raised her slender hand and deftly caught the pill in her palm. Shi Kun, however, suddenly opened his mouth and spat out a stream of yellow light. The light enveloped the spiritual pill, instantly drawing it in as if out of thin air. Only then did the large man calmly retrieve the pill from the light.
Although both were certain it was the Void Spirit Pill, given its importance, they naturally had to use their respective secret techniques to meticulously verify it. Han Li watched Liu Shuier, who was chanting incantations and conjuring various spells at the spiritual pill in her hand. Shi Kun, on the other hand, had a solemn expression, merely gazing at the pill in his hand without moving.
After a full quarter-hour, both finished their actions. They exchanged glances, then subtly nodded at each other, and finally, both sighed in relief.
"This trip has been troublesome for you, Brother Han," Liu Shuier said with a graceful smile at Han Li, after placing her pill into a medicine bottle she carried. "Otherwise, we probably wouldn't have reached this place so smoothly and obtained the Void Spirit Pills."
"I merely exerted some effort, which is only right, given the benefits I received from you two seniors earlier," Han Li replied noncommittally.
"Brother Han is too modest," Shi Kun said after putting away his pill, then looked at the purple-gold vial still suspended in mid-air and suddenly asked, "However, are there any other pills in this bottle?"
Hearing Shi Kun's question, Liu Shuier's heart stirred, and a strange glint flickered in her eyes.
"Heh heh, I didn't expect Fellow Daoist Shi to be so greedy," Han Li chuckled. "Whether there's a third Void Spirit Pill, you can see for yourself." He then, with a single hand gesture, urged the vial towards the air.
The purple-gold vial immediately transformed into a golden light and flew straight towards Shi Kun. Although Shi Kun detected a hint of displeasure in Han Li's words, as it concerned the Void Spirit Pill, he could only pretend ignorance and quickly grabbed the vial, sweeping his spiritual sense through it. But the vial was empty; there was no third Void Spirit Pill inside.
A trace of disappointment flashed across Shi Kun's face, but with a shift in thought, he turned to the cloaked woman and chuckled, "Does Fairy Liu also wish to take a look?" As he spoke, he held up the bottle in his hand, as if about to toss it over.
But Liu Shuier pondered for a moment, then shook her head and said, "Brother Han and Brother Shi have already seen it. Why would I need to do something so redundant? How could I not trust you two fellow Daoists?"
Hearing Liu Shuier say this, Shi Kun found nothing more to say. He could only give Han Li an awkward smile and toss the vial back. Han Li's expression remained unchanged. He flicked his sleeve, and after a wisp of green mist swept by, the purple-gold vial vanished in a flash.
For the next period, Han Li retrieved two more items from the cauldron. Both were rare materials almost extinct in the Spirit Realm, and both were specifically requested by Liu Shuier and Duan Tianren. Because there was only one of each of these items, and they were perfectly divided between Liu Shuier and Shi Kun, there was no need for any dispute. Thus, apart from the three exotic treasures obtained at the very beginning, all other items were divided between these two.
There was nothing else in the cauldron. This time, even Shi Kun had no further suspicions. After all, there had indeed only been a few golden light clusters wrapped in green silk originally.
"Brother Han, the three treasures you kept earlier are not what my master and Senior Duan need. Let's divide them," Liu Shuier said with a smile once Han Li had put away the Void Heaven Cauldron.
"Haha, exactly. There are three treasures, one for each of us. Brother Han, don't be shy, go ahead and pick first." Shi Kun seemed to become generous all of a sudden.
Liu Shuier was initially startled by this but then agreed with a smile. However, this was quite normal. Whether it was the golden gourd, the pagoda, or the hexagonal disc, simply scanning them with the naked eye or spiritual sense revealed nothing about their true functions, powers, or might. In such a case, choosing first or last made little difference.
Han Li listened, a faint smile appearing on his lips. He slowly said, "Since you two fellow Daoists insist, I won't decline. I've already chosen my treasure. As for the remaining two, how do you two fellow Daoists wish to choose?" As soon as he finished speaking, Han Li flicked his sleeve, and two items immediately flew out, hovering motionless in front of him. They were precisely the golden pagoda and the hexagonal disc! The golden gourd, which had appeared first, was kept by Han Li.
Seeing Han Li's choice, Liu Shuier and Shi Kun were slightly surprised, but they didn't dwell on it. Instead, they both stared at the other two exotic treasures, each pondering their choice.
"I'll choose that golden pagoda, and the remaining item will be yours, fellow Daoist. What do you think, Brother Shi?" Liu Shuier spoke first.
"Alright. I'll take this last one then," Shi Kun hesitated for a moment, but ultimately nodded in agreement with Liu Shuier's suggestion.
"Then I thank Brother Shi for yielding," Liu Shuier said with a smile upon hearing this, and then raised her hand and beckoned towards the opposite side. Immediately, the golden pagoda in front of Han Li whistled as it flew over and was taken into the woman's hand. Shi Kun naturally cast a spell and likewise put away the hexagonal disc.
The three of them then exchanged glances, all appearing greatly pleased.
"Brother Han, Fairy Liu, you two won't contend with me for this golden cauldron, will you? I'd like to take this item for other uses," Shi Kun suddenly said with a grin, taking a few large strides to stand before the ancient golden cauldron. With a single pat of his hand, the golden cauldron immediately glowed brightly and rapidly shrank, turning into a fist-sized object in the blink of an eye, which the large man then grabbed.
Seeing Shi Kun's sudden action, Han Li frowned slightly but immediately returned to his normal expression and said, "Since Brother Shi has taken a liking to this item, Han has no objections. As long as Fairy Liu agrees, you may take it."
"This cauldron is indeed an excellent treasure for storing important items. I originally wanted to keep it, but Brother Shi got ahead of me," Liu Shuier said, a hint of regret showing in her eyes as crystal light swirled within them while she gazed at the golden cauldron. "In that case, I won't contend for it; I'll let fellow Daoist have it."
Since the item was already in Shi Kun's hand, even if she was somewhat reluctant, she could only speak thus. Shi Kun chuckled, then casually tucked the golden cauldron into his sleeve, where it vanished in a flash.
He then glanced around, only to find that Han Li had, at some point, turned towards the mysterious screen and was intently observing something.
"Brother Han, have you discovered anything?" the large man couldn't help but ask, seeing Han Li so engrossed.
"This thing is not simple at all," Han Li replied without turning his head.
Hearing this, Shi Kun naturally felt somewhat speechless. This screen could absorb their spiritual sense, so it was certainly extraordinary. The answer he sought was naturally not such a vague statement. However, in this situation, it was not appropriate to press further. He could only widen his eyes and secretly switch between various secret techniques to probe the screen's depths.
On the other side, Liu Shuier stood gracefully by the screen, her eyes thoughtful as she pondered something. Just then, Han Li's figure flickered, and he strangely moved to the back of the screen. He raised both hands, and his ten fingers flicked out continuously. With a flash of light, numerous spells of various colors shot out, all flying towards the screen.
Seeing Han Li's action, Shi Kun and Liu Shuier were naturally startled. They stopped what they were doing and looked towards Han Li. At that moment, Han Li let out a low cry, and a ball of black mist swirled out from between his eyebrows. It then condensed, transforming into a dark mystical eye. With a flash of dark light from this eye, a black light beam as thick as a thumb immediately shot out, striking directly onto the screen.
Immediately, a buzzing sound came from behind the screen, and a flash of seven-colored light burst forth. It enveloped Han Li and then quickly spiraled back like lightning. The area behind the screen instantly became empty; Han Li had completely vanished.
Shi Kun and Liu Shuier's hearts chilled. Almost without thinking, they moved, circling around to the back of the screen as well. What they saw was that within the screen's faint green light curtain, four ancient purple characters had appeared at some unknown point.
"Grotto-Heaven in the Screen"
Liu Shuier's pupils contracted, and she murmured the words aloud.
