Volume 9: Myriad Races of the Spirit Realm
He waited until the suction force beneath his feet weakened to a certain extent before taking another step. He then paused for a long while. In this manner, the final dozen or so stone steps actually took Han Li a full quarter of an hour to complete.
The moment his feet touched the peak, Han Li felt the suction disappear completely. His body became incredibly light, as if he could take a large step and fly directly without using any magic power.
Han Li exhaled deeply, and the blurry golden armor on his body vanished in a flash.
He turned his head to glance down the mountain.
Shi Kun was still hundreds of steps below, gasping for breath as he looked up at Han Li, a look of dejection on his face.
Liu Shui'er was even further down, over two thousand steps away, appearing as nothing more than a tiny black dot.
Fortunately, both knew that although Han Li had gained an early advantage, the purple palace was vast, and no one knew if there were formidable restrictions inside. Thus, they weren't afraid of all treasures being swept away by him.
Han Li smiled faintly, aware that it would take a long time for the other two to reach the peak. Without a word, he turned back to face the purple palace before him.
Just dozens of feet away, a magnificent palace gate, over twenty feet tall, stood majestically.
The gate was tightly shut, its surface inlaid with dozens of large crystals of various colors. Along its edges, dense, intricate patterns were meticulously engraved in an orderly fashion.
After carefully scanning the palace gate several times, Han Li's eyes flashed, and a hint of surprise appeared on his face.
He had just realized that the dozens of fist-sized crystals were all exceptionally rare supreme-grade spirit stones, appearing even purer than the "supreme-grade spirit stones" found in the Spirit Realm.
Han Li let out a low "tsk-tsk" sound, then shifted his gaze to the purple palace wall beside the gate.
These walls, constructed from an unknown material, were only five or six zhang high. Yet, they emitted a strange, hazy purple glow, and their surfaces were inscribed with pale silver runes of varying sizes.
Han Li's lips curved upward. He immediately recognized these runes as the "Silver Etched Script" that he was already intimately familiar with.
"This place was indeed built by an immortal from the True Immortal Realm!" Han Li's expression seemed calm, but his heart churned violently, and his gaze towards the palace gradually grew ardent.
Even though he possessed various extraordinary treasures and had encountered countless fortuitous events since embarking on the path of cultivation, the thought that this palace might contain artifacts left behind by an immortal made it difficult for him to contain his excitement.
No wonder Cai Liuying and Duan Tianren were so confident that this place contained elixirs that could help them break through the Saint-tier bottleneck.
For an immortal from the True Immortal Realm, crafting elixirs useful to those in the lower realms would naturally be an easy feat.
However, Han Li was not an ordinary person after all. After calming his mind, he regained his composure and glanced up at the top of the purple palace wall.
Suddenly, he raised a hand, extending a finger to point into the void.
Immediately, a clap of thunder sounded, and a faint golden electric arc emerged. With a flash, it shot directly towards the space above the palace wall.
A bizarre situation occurred!
As soon as the golden electric arc reached the seemingly empty space above the purple palace wall, a pleasant, ethereal melody resounded. Then, with a flash of purple light, the golden electric arc vanished as if a mud ox had entered the sea.
Han Li frowned.
Even with the momentary activation of his Clear Spirit Eyes, he could not discern the profound mysteries of that purple light.
As for his divine sense, it was repelled by an invisible force the moment it approached the palace wall, making it impossible to probe even an inch into the palace.
Sighing lightly, Han Li abandoned the idea of going over the wall and redirected his gaze back to the main palace gate.
Compared to the mysterious restrictions on the nearby palace wall, entering through the main gate was naturally a more prudent approach.
However, although he saw nothing unusual about the gate itself, he certainly wouldn't risk opening it in person without caution.
After a moment's thought, Han Li slapped the storage bracelet on his wrist. Immediately, a ball of green light flew out, only to fall heavily to the ground.
It was a two-zhang tall giant ape puppet, lying prostrate on all fours, appearing quite battered by the anti-flight force.
Seeing this, Han Li's eyebrow twitched. He formed a hand seal and casually pointed at the puppet.
The next moment, a "creak" sounded from the giant ape puppet's body, and it slowly got up. With an expressionless turn, it began walking towards the distant palace gate.
Han Li remained still in his spot, but his eyes narrowed slightly, watching the giant ape puppet's every move without blinking.
Under his watchful gaze, the giant ape reached the palace gate, raised its hands without hesitation, and pressed them against both sides of the door.
After several flashes of green light on the puppet's body, the palace gate slowly began to move, pushed open.
Han Li's expression was somewhat strange, a mix of surprise and disbelief.
The gate had opened so easily; it seemed incredibly simple, almost unbelievably so.
As he thought this, he suppressed the slight doubt and eagerness in his heart and quickly scanned the interior beyond the gate.
Beyond the palace gate was a plaza paved with green bricks, enclosed on all sides by shimmering, translucent white jade railings.
At the far end of the plaza stood a tall, purplish-golden main hall.
From a distance, three smaller side halls, each about one-third the size of the main hall, were visible near it, forming a '品' (pin) character shape that enclosed the main hall.
Beyond these, faintly visible behind the main hall, was a small area of low-lying pavilions and platforms, seemingly occupying a vast area.
After a brief hesitation, he urged the puppet with his divine sense.
The giant ape moved, swaggering confidently through the palace gate first.
Han Li also raised his foot and slowly walked inside.
A moment later, he was on the other side of the gate, finally entering the palace and reaching a corner of the plaza.
The plaza was not small, measuring about five to six hundred zhang.
Under the control of his divine sense, the giant ape puppet headed directly for the center of the plaza, intending to traverse it and proceed to the main hall opposite.
Han Li followed behind, maintaining a distance of twenty zhang from the puppet to guard against any unexpected events.
However, after a short while, Han Li's expression grew serious; he realized something was amiss.
Despite the plaza being only a few hundred zhang wide, the giant ape puppet and he had walked for quite some time, yet they still didn't seem to have reached the center.
"An illusory formation!" Han Li's eyes narrowed. He abruptly halted the puppet in front of him, then turned his head to look behind.
He saw that although he should have walked three to four hundred zhang, the shimmering white jade railing was still conspicuously just over ten zhang behind him. It was as if he hadn't moved far from the plaza's corner since the beginning.
Han Li was secretly astonished. Without hesitation, a blue light flashed in his eyes, and he began to scan the entire plaza.
However, wherever his spiritual eyes gazed, it was empty, and he saw no abnormality whatsoever.
Han Li's expression changed slightly, and his heart was startled.
For his spiritual eye ability to be unable to see through a mere illusory formation was something he had almost never encountered before.
However, considering that the one who set up this restriction might be an immortal from the True Immortal Realm, it didn't seem too surprising that this illusory formation was so profound.
Even so, Han Li had no intention of giving up.
He exhaled a long breath, and all the magic power in his body surged, then flowed along a meridian, rushing towards his brow.
Almost instantly, a mass of black mist condensed on his brow. With a flash, a translucent black eye emerged from the mist.
This was precisely Han Li's Eye of Annihilation, which he had cultivated for hundreds of years.
Since its beginnings in the human realm, this eye had been continuously cultivated within Han Li with spiritual liquid. After so many years, it had naturally developed some profoundly mysterious abilities.
Although this eye primarily focused on spatial abilities, it also came with several powers specifically effective against illusions and similar techniques. However, its effectiveness in this regard was not as pure as that of the Clear Spirit Eye.
During a secluded cultivation session on the Thunder Roar Continent, Han Li had accidentally combined the Eye of Annihilation and the Clear Spirit Eye in a single spell. The result was a fusion into a new ability, whose power far surpassed either of the individual spiritual eyes.
However, while this ability was indeed formidable, each activation consumed an extraordinary amount of magic power.
Thus, although Han Li had gained insight into this ability, this was the first time he was using it in actual combat.
But recalling the circumstances of his initial attempts with this ability, he felt somewhat confident in breaking the illusory formation before him.
Immediately, he began to murmur incantations. The blue light in his regular eyes gradually grew brighter and more dazzling, while the pupil of the black Eye of Annihilation moved, and a strange black radiance flowed endlessly, appearing like a dark gem embedded in his forehead, giving it an exceptionally mysterious look.
Suddenly, two blue lights and one black light beam shot almost simultaneously from his three spiritual eyes. In a flash, they converged in front of Han Li, then, amidst a flicker of spiritual light, merged into a single black and blue sphere of light.
It was blue on the outside, black on the inside, translucent, and fist-sized, resembling a gigantic eyeball.
"Break!"
Han Li, without hesitation, swept his hand towards the sphere of light.
A sheet of green light unfurled from his sleeve, flashed, and enveloped the sphere, instantly disappearing into it.
The sphere's surface shimmered with spiritual light, and black and blue runes of various sizes appeared, spinning rapidly.
In an instant, the sphere burst forth with brilliant light, shooting out countless black and blue threads of light in all directions.
These light threads appeared as fine as needles, but their speed was astonishingly fast. In virtually a single flash, they immediately reached every part of the entire plaza, forming a massive black and blue net that enveloped the entire area.
The next moment, a series of low, continuous sounds emanated from various parts of the plaza. Where the net landed in the low air, clusters of multi-colored lights burst open.
Suddenly, a strange spatial fluctuation surged skyward. The void beneath the net twisted and deformed. Following this, the scenery at the center of the plaza blurred slightly, revealing a towering, hazy white light door.
