Chapter 141: Slaying

The big man who had just emerged from the ground and the yellow-robed man from before were the duo who had been pursuing Han Li.

After catching up, they feared Han Li would continue his journey. So, after slightly recovering their spiritual power, they stealthily approached and planned this ambush.

At this moment, Han Li felt a burning pain in his injured thigh. It seemed his recent movements had worsened the wound.

However, this was no time to dwell on such matters! The big man who had been hiding in the ground drew a long saber wreathed in black mist from behind his back and lunged fiercely at Han Li.

Han Li observed his opponent's movements. Although fast, they were stiff, clearly relying solely on magical enhancement. He felt a slight sense of relief, knowing that in terms of agile and elusive movement, Han Li was confident no one could match him.

With this thought, Han Li no longer paid attention to the aggressive big man in front of him. Instead, he focused on the yellow-robed man, who had pulled out a dark greenish gourd and was pointing its mouth at him, seemingly preparing to cast another spell!

"Where are you looking? Die!"

The big man had already rushed close to Han Li, his body glowing intensely with yellow light. He raised the strange long saber and brought it down fiercely on Han Li.

Han Li grunted, his body swayed, and he instantly moved out of the saber's range.

"Kid, you fell for it!" the big man suddenly cackled.

With a flash of black light, the long saber in his hand transformed into a long black chain, coiling around Han Li's body like a snake. It seemed determined to bind Han Li and would not stop until it succeeded!

Han Li was startled. His figure immediately became blurry and elusive, darting left, then right, then forward, then backward, as if several Han Lis were simultaneously circling the big man.

At this sight, the big man was initially taken aback, but then he ignored it, relying on the "Earth Armor" spell protecting his entire body. He continued to actively control the extensible black chain, desperately pursuing Han Li's true form.

"Thump! Thump!" Han Li swept past the big man. In that instant, he unleashed a barrage of fireballs from his clasped hands, striking the big man's body. The yellow light around him flickered wildly but unfortunately recovered immediately.

"How could mere fire bullets break through my lord's body-protection spell!" the big man exclaimed with arrogance. However, his hand seals became even faster, maintaining full control over the black chain without the slightest relaxation.

Han Li felt a growing urgency! Although the big man's black chain was slightly slower and couldn't directly harm him, he also couldn't afford to slow down his movements, or he would surely be ensnared. He didn't know what kind of magical artifact this troublesome black chain was, but he certainly didn't dare let it wrap around him!

In the midst of the chaos, he stole a glance at the yellow-robed man. He saw the man's solemn expression, and his gourd artifact began emitting a faint blue light from its mouth. Han Li wondered what was about to emerge from within.

"No, this won't do. If this continues, my life will surely be in danger! I have to take some risks!" Han Li thought to himself, seeing the perilous situation.

So, while moving at high speed, Han Li took out the Vajra Talisman he had obtained from Daoist Jinguang. This Vajra Talisman was also a type of talismanic art, and Han Li had already learned its incantation from Monk Kusang. Now, it was finally proving useful.

Han Li softly chanted a few incantations. His words were somewhat indistinct due to his movements, but the golden characters on the talisman lit up. When all the golden characters were fully illuminated, Han Li slammed the talisman onto his body. Immediately, a brilliant golden light erupted from him, and a golden shield abruptly appeared. However, his movements also abruptly slowed, and the black chain, catching up from behind, entangled him perfectly.

Han Li had long known and tested that using the Vajra Talisman would slow down his movements. When he saw that the black chain, though wrapped around him several times, was completely blocked by the golden light, he felt even less panicked! He knew his gamble had paid off; the golden shield could indeed defend against the opponent's magical artifact.

Seeing this, the big man let out a low roar and charged forward again with large strides, clenching his fists. The yellow light on his hands was blindingly bright, almost substantial, indicating some unknown cultivation technique had been empowered.

Learning from his previous lesson, Han Li would not allow the big man to get close again. He suddenly crouched down, placing his hands on the ground. Then, a low incantation emanated from Han Li's mouth, and a faint yellow light also began to emanate from his hands.

At this sight, the big man was slightly startled and hastily tried to stop, but it was too late. The ground beneath his feet completely transformed into soft, flowing quicksand, causing his feet to sink deep, burying him up to his thighs. He became flustered.

"Attack!" A sharp cry reached Han Li's ears.

Han Li's heart sank, and he looked towards the yellow-robed man.

From the mouth of the dark greenish gourd, seven or eight murky black spherical objects, about the size of eggs, shot out in quick succession, hurtling towards Han Li.

Han Li's expression was grim, but the yellow light from his hands suddenly dissipated. Then he rummaged through his robes and pulled out a wooden box.

By then, several of the spherical objects had reached him, violently striking Han Li's golden shield. The shield continuously distorted and rippled, appearing as if it could shatter at any moment.

Seeing this critical situation, Han Li ignored it. Instead, he sat cross-legged, placed the wooden box horizontally on his lap, and began forming hand seals for an incantation.

Thump! Thump! Thump! The spherical objects' assault intensified. The attacks on the golden shield outside never ceased, causing the golden light around Han Li to gradually dim. It seemed the shield would break, and he would perish at any moment.

At this moment, Han Li let out a loud shout:

"Rise!"

As this sound was uttered, a ten-foot-long beam of gray light shot out from Han Li's wooden box. This light, like a flood dragon emerging from water, circled around. The spherical objects, as if encountering their bane, were all cleaved in half one by one and fell to the ground.

"A talismanic treasure!" the yellow-robed man shrieked as if he had seen a ghost.

Han Li's heart stirred upon hearing this. However, he had no time to think further, as the big man, who was closer, had already freed himself. Yet, upon seeing Han Li's hazy sword light, the big man's face turned ashen! Instead of charging towards Han Li, he turned and fled frantically.

But with killing intent now aroused, Han Li would not let this person escape. He pointed his hand at the big man, and the sword light immediately shot out in pursuit, reaching the big man's back in the blink of an eye.

Circling around the big man's neck, his head effortlessly rolled to the ground. The protective yellow light on his body seemed non-existent, offering no resistance whatsoever.

Seeing this, how could the yellow-robed man dare to linger? He pulled out a talisman from his robes, slapped it onto himself, and immediately grew a pair of huge yellow wings. With a gentle flap, he ascended into the air and flew off into the distance.

Han Li, meanwhile, directed the sword light to pursue, staying close behind the yellow-robed man. The yellow-robed man flew faster and faster, and the gray light couldn't keep up for a moment.

Han Li grew anxious. Hardening his resolve, he unleashed all his spiritual power without reservation. The gray light instantly surged forward as if it had consumed a potent tonic, piercing straight through the yellow-robed man's chest, giving him a chilling end.

The yellow-robed man let out a shriek and plummeted from mid-air.

Han Li was overjoyed. He recalled the gray light and rushed over, hoping to capture a living person for thorough interrogation.

Unfortunately, by the time Han Li reached the spot where he fell, the yellow-robed man was utterly dead, having been killed by the fall! This left Han Li feeling extremely frustrated!

Since there was no living person left, he could only search the two men's bodies to see if he could find any useful clues.

After Han Li unceremoniously stripped the two men of all their belongings, he found no relevant items, but he did stumble upon a considerable fortune! They carried a total of fifty low-grade spirit stones, not to mention various talismans and magical artifacts!

Although Han Li was puzzled by this unprovoked ambush and wondered if the previous disappearances of rogue cultivators were related to these two, he dared not linger. After consuming some medicinal pills, he continued on his journey.
