In the cold, desolate universe, a streaking light pierced the tranquility, moving faster than any spaceship. Space twisted around the light; it was Lu Yang's Wupeng boat.
The journey home was not boring, as the Immortal Fairy accompanied him.
The closer he got to Earth, the more nervous and uneasy Lu Yang became. This was also partly why he had gone to the Zhutian Civilization to deal with Guyu and to the Spirit Stone planet to retrieve the diary beforehand.
Otherwise, Lu Yang could have simply visited Earth first and then dealt with these loose ends.
"Is that your old home?" The Immortal Fairy's voice pulled Lu Yang back to reality.
The blue planet slowly rotated in the cosmos, appearing like a dazzling, dreamlike gem in the vast starry sky.
Lu Yang quickly pulled the Wupeng boat to a stop, almost flying past Earth.
The Wupeng boat disengaged from its light-speed and warp-speed states, appearing as if out of thin air. This scene was coincidentally captured by satellites, startling the veteran experts and professors at the space agency, who nearly popped their eyes out.
"My God, what did I just see?"
"An ancient person traveling in a small boat through space?"
The space agency was in an uproar, completely chaotic. Only then did Lu Yang notice the satellites nearby, realizing his recklessness. He put away the Wupeng boat and leaped solo into Earth's atmosphere.
"Quickly switch the view! Track the movements of that humanoid!" The veteran expert at the space agency urgently shouted, startling his young apprentice, who had never heard his master speak so loudly before.
But they soon lost track of Lu Yang, much to their dismay.
Lu Yang streaked through the clouds, his descent accelerating rapidly like a meteor tearing across the sky. Then his speed slowed, and he landed on an airplane.
He sat cross-legged on the airplane's exterior, gazing down at the mountains, rivers, and beautiful waterways below. His mind was filled with a myriad of thoughts.
After hitching a ride for a while, Lu Yang jumped off the plane before it landed, dropping into a bustling city. He performed a small spell to change his ancient attire into Earth's style.
Seeing the crowds on the streets and the familiar style of buildings and skyscrapers, Lu Yang felt a moment of disorientation, as if he had returned to Earth before the zombie apocalypse.
After the zombie apocalypse, only a fraction of the survivors remained. After decades of effort, Earth had finally been restored to its former appearance.
Only a small fraction of the Zhutian Civilization knew of Earth's existence. Earth was also very far from the Zhutian Civilization and held no value worth conquering. Furthermore, due to Guyu's fear of Earth, she had sealed off most of Earth's data before her retirement. Consequently, after the zombie apocalypse, the Zhutian Civilization had not sent anyone else to Earth.
Lu Yang wandered aimlessly through the streets, somewhat distracted.
Before coming to Earth, he had felt that he would need to meet many people and do many things once he arrived. But now that he was actually on Earth, he felt out of place, unsure of what he should do.
This city was not chosen randomly. In his memory, it was once the safe zone he had established, sheltering countless survivors.
As time passed, those familiar wasteland buildings were all gone. His parents had passed away before the zombie apocalypse. Here, he felt like an out-of-place stranger.
Following his rough memory, he stopped in front of where his old house used to be and softly read the name of the new building.
"Apocalypse History Museum?"
"Little Yang, is this your house?" The Immortal Fairy curiously peeked out, knowing no one else could see her anyway.
Lu Yang nodded with a strange expression, "It should be."
He stealthily bypassed the ticket booth and entered the museum.
Although it was a weekday, there were still many visitors. Great-grandparents held their grandchildren's small hands, recounting the arduous and dangerous period to the children.
A grandfather and his grandchild paused before a large sign. "Look at Ping An Hospital," he said, "the zombie virus that devastated the world originated from this hospital."
Ping An Hospital had long been demolished, leaving only a sign and some ruins in front of where it stood, preserved as a historical lesson to alert future generations.
"That period was truly dangerous," the great-grandfather remarked with deep emotion. "Grandpa was able to survive thanks to General Lu." When he was at his wit's end and starving, he was taken in by the safe zone, which allowed him to live to this day.
During the apocalypse, Lu Yang had assembled a zombie army, and people commonly referred to him as General Lu.
Every time he thought of those scenes, he wished he could thank Lu Yang in person, to express his gratitude for saving his life. Unfortunately, that was impossible; Commander Lu had fought for Earth and died on an alien planet, his remains never found.
Lu Yang gazed at the old man for a moment, shaking his head slightly. He couldn't remember who the man was; too many people had been rescued in the safe zone.
Another teacher led a group of elementary school students through the history museum, recounting the history that Lu Yang knew so well.
Lu Yang found his former home, which was now a famous attraction. The arrangement of tables, chairs, and books was still as it had been, though none of the items were the originals.
A commotion arose nearby, as if an important figure had arrived, and the area was about to be cleared. Lu Yang merely stood with his hands behind his back in front of his old home. Bodyguards moved about behind him, as if they couldn't see him.
A wrinkled old woman, hunched over, tottered with her cane, trembling with each step. She refused any assistance, making her attendants tremble with fear, worried that the important figure might fall. If she did, how would they explain it to their superiors?
This important figure had an extraordinary background; no one on Earth had a more legendary experience than her.
In her youth, she was a doctor who ventured deep into the viral danger zones to investigate the source of the zombie virus. She was later rescued by General Lu. Although she didn't uncover the virus's origin, she worked with General Lu to establish safe zones, and even fully took over command of the safe zones. General Lu also entrusted his zombie army to her.
During the Earth Defense War, she repeatedly achieved extraordinary feats. After General Lu led several Corpse Kings on an extraterrestrial expedition, the zombies remaining on Earth became uncontrollable. She organized an army to suppress the zombies, united the seven major safe zones, and led the post-disaster reconstruction efforts.
At the peak of her power, she resolutely stepped down to a secondary role, yielding her position to others.
The safe zone was not her hometown, but after retirement, she did not return home. Instead, she chose to remain in the safe zone, periodically visiting the history museum.
Her attendants watched her faltering steps with a pang of sadness. Her condition was deteriorating daily, and perhaps this would be her last visit to the history museum.
The important figure tremblingly walked towards Lu Yang's former residence.
Her attendants saw a young man standing in front of Lu Yang's former residence and frowned, secretly cursing the bodyguards for their incompetence. If anything happened to this important figure, they feared the world would drown them, the negligent attendants, with their collective spit.
The important figure saw the young man's back. Her eyes were hazy; she was too old and afflicted with severe illness, her mind no longer entirely clear. In a daze, she actually superimposed the young man's figure with the image of the person she had longed for, and instinctively cried out:
"Lu Yang, is that you?"
The young man turned his head, revealing an unfamiliar face. The important figure shook her head and chuckled sadly. She was old, truly old. Earth's will had said that Lu Yang had self-destructed; how could he possibly be here?
The young man saw the frail, elderly important figure and smiled happily.
"Doctor, long time no see."
