“To think of me, Taiwu, who roamed the heavens, countless battles fought, surveying a glorious epoch with pride, pushing aside all rivals of my generation to rise. After eons of suffering, I established a sacred land, created a supreme breathing technique, and became the patriarch of a sect. Yet, in the end, I must face such a deadly fate, silently, patiently awaiting demise. How tragic, how laughable.”
The stone embryo spoke, unwilling yet helpless. His eyes dimmed, his gaze unfocused, his soul light disintegrating, tearing into fragments, as the Dao Ancestor’s essence steadily dispersed.
He sat cross-legged, utterly motionless. The vitality around him rapidly drained away, his Dao body quickly decaying, and an aura of corruption swirled about him.
A Celestial Venerable was perishing, with no hope of reprieve. No matter his immense divine powers, here, he could only inch by inch approach the end of his life!
Whether resigned or unwilling, he let his soul light struggle within him, even if it meant self-destruction, but it was all futile, fundamentally changing nothing.
Before him lay one massive Celestial Venerable true body after another, even grander than his own. By seniority, they predated him by far, their origins and identities terrifyingly significant.
Yet, they too had long since perished there, none having escaped the death trap.
These Celestial Venerables were arrayed, each seated in meditation, choosing to die with dignity, burying themselves in resignation. There was simply no hope of escape once trapped here.
In his final moments, Taiwu gazed at the black opening before him, which intermittently glowed and plunged into profound darkness, ever-changing and unpredictable.
At the same time, he looked at the terrifying Great Cosmos-level evolved creature that filled him with immense dread. If its form were to be revealed, the world would be shaken to its core.
This made one deeply feel the great terror at the peak of evolution!
Taiwu, having fallen here, watched for a long time, still feeling horrified. He had witnessed one of the world’s greatest secrets, but he could not bring this information back to the Yang Realm, nor could he even transmit it beyond the Great Abyss.
The entire world searched far and wide, powerful beings exploring and seeking, yet unaware that here lay some truth and answers.
There was no further path for evolution; here was a cavern, here was the Great Cosmos-level evolved creature, here were some answers, along with catastrophic remnants and truths!
“When you, like a soaring dragon, looked down upon ants, did you ever consider that another soaring dragon was looking down upon you?”
In his final moments, he heard this sentence again, his eyes vacant, silently awaiting death!
At this moment, at the edge of the cosmos, the group that had followed Taiwu felt a chill, as if plummeting into hell. Taiwu, the supreme Celestial Venerable in their eyes, had been swallowed by the Great Abyss just like that.
Two Dao children wept loudly, while others shivered. Even a Celestial Venerable had met a deadly fate; this Underworld cosmos far exceeded their imagination.
No wonder other Celestial Venerables were unwilling to easily step foot here. Only Celestial Venerable Taiwu, plagued by certain issues and yearning for the two lost treasures in this cosmos, had rushed here, risking his life, and indeed, an accident had occurred.
However, the ordeal was not over.
The group suddenly found themselves bound by an invisible force that pierced through the chaotic mists, its temporal influence extending beyond the Underworld’s scope.
“No!”
Someone cried out. Among the evolvers who had followed Taiwu were masters, true gods, who were now being pulled away, flying towards the depths of the Underworld.
The two young boys screamed in terror and turned to flee.
Ultimately, several gods were swallowed by the Great Abyss, falling downwards like drowning creatures struggling in vain. Among them were a white fox, a three-legged flying dragon, and a human god-level expert, all meeting the same fate, unable to escape, plummeting to the bottom of the Great Abyss.
When they saw the dying Celestial Venerable Taiwu, they wanted to cry out, but found themselves unable to utter a single word, powerless to open their mouths.
Even a Celestial Venerable sat here awaiting death; what could they possibly change? As despair filled their hearts, they swiftly began to perish.
From the black opening, a scorching light flowed, imbued with supreme power. In an instant, they turned to dust. A wisp of wind blew through the mysterious cavern, and they vanished like smoke.
These were all powerful beings, renowned as gods among evolvers, yet they perished just like that, without any significance. The world remained ignorant of their final fate.
The Underworld cosmos was in an uproar, all evolvers aghast. Celestial Venerable Taiwu had been swallowed, and along with him, several deities who had followed him also vanished.
Had the greatest catastrophe in the Underworld thus passed?
“What about Chu Feng, and his family and friends?” some revered elders wondered, gazing towards the Great Abyss.
At this moment, evolvers of all races wanted to know the answer.
However, nothing could be seen, as the Heavenly Eyes could no longer capture any images.
The Great Abyss, in the process of devouring Taiwu and the deities, had also caused the nearby Heavenly Eyes to vanish.
Outside the Great Abyss, the Demonic Ancestor’s Cauldron glowed, dazzling brightly. It had done its utmost, absorbing the blood mist into itself. Though the odds were grim, it might not be able to save those who had perished.
But it had truly tried.
In fact, it was severely damaged itself, with numerous cracks. It had almost been pierced by a casual flick of Taiwu’s finger, and the intricate marks on its walls resembled a spiderweb.
“I can’t hold on!”
It trembled. No longer in the era of following the Demonic Ancestor, it was no longer a divine cauldron, yet it was still being swallowed by the Abyss, propelled backward.
“Shrink!”
Chu Feng cried out, filled with sorrow, unsure what had become of his parents, the Black Ox, Yellow Ox, and Zhou Quan. With no Celestial Venerables in this world, who could save them?
Moreover, so much time had passed, the moment delayed, the best opportunity missed. Was there still salvation? Who could defy the heavens?
Yaoyao? She could barely protect herself. Only after the battle ended did he realize the severity of her injuries; she was practically at death’s door!
The Demonic Ancestor’s Cauldron shrunk to the size of a fist, transforming into a soft ball of light that flew towards Chu Feng, to be stored within the stone box.
“Yaoyao, quick!” Chu Feng cried, worried something might happen to her.
Though grief-stricken, he could not afford to mourn deeply. Even without god-level energy fluctuations, they were still affected, on the verge of being swallowed by the destructive power within the Great Abyss.
At this moment, Chu Feng himself struggled, his soul light coalescing with his blood, plunging into the stone box. Unfortunately, it had no lid; he had thrown it into the darkness in a fit of rage earlier.
Yaoyao’s battle skirt was now riddled with many cracks, broken by Taiwu’s secret techniques, showing the horrific attacks she had endured.
Her glabella was bleeding, the earlier finger-mark spreading. It wasn’t that she hadn’t been injured, but that she had suppressed it, and now it manifested.
Her glabella was pierced, and terrifying energy corroded it.
Furthermore, there were a few stone fragments mixed with blood in her hair—a trump card Taiwu Celestial Venerable had unleashed, material peeled from the stone embryo, an innate substance!
The stone substance had originally condensed into needles, but Yaoyao had blocked them with her sword embryo. Now, the divine sword was broken, and the stone weapon was also reduced to dust, yet it had still wounded her.
In addition, Yaoyao’s body bore many wounds. Her own sword had broken into over a dozen pieces, some fragments flying back and piercing her body, causing blood to gush.
“Yaoyao!”
Chu Feng’s soul light, carrying the stone box, rushed towards her, guiding Yaoyao.
Yaoyao's eyes were unfocused; she was in serious trouble!
Although he knew Yaoyao’s physical body had survived in the Great Abyss for many years, the situation was now dire. A Celestial Venerable might be perishing below, and he feared Yaoyao would be caught in the repercussions.
Finally, the stone box and Yaoyao fell together, sinking into the darkness.
Chu Feng felt a destructive aura, sensing his own impending doom. He swiftly pulled Yaoyao into the stone box. It was extremely cramped inside, the inner small-world space now barely a meter square.
Then, as they fell, he passed out, completely unaware. There were unknown fluctuations at the bottom of the Great Abyss, suppressing soul light!
Much later, Chu Feng regained consciousness. His soul light was intact, coalescing with his blood. Inside the stone box, he was steadily rising from the darkness.
He saw Yaoyao, supporting the stone box, flying out of the Great Abyss. Her gaze was still dim. He called out repeatedly, but she showed no reaction, instinctively bringing him out.
The box lid was also there; it had been found.
As Chu Feng and the stone box emerged from the Great Abyss, Yaoyao seemed to expend her last ounce of strength, pushing him out before falling straight back down, her eyes utterly hollow, devoid of their former ethereal glow.
“Yaoyao!”
Chu Feng cried out. He had lost too many people today and truly could not bear to lose Yaoyao as well. He was about to leap back down.
“Leave this place. If you go back down, we will both surely die, and it will change nothing, unless you can fully activate this stone box and truly master it!”
The Demonic Ancestor’s Cauldron transmitted its warning to Chu Feng.
“Yaoyao…” Chu Feng was filled with reluctance, watching Yaoyao, her hair disheveled, plummeting downwards. He didn’t know what had become of her.
In that final moment, her eyes were so hollow, completely devoid of light. Chu Feng’s heart was filled with terror.
However, the Demonic Ancestor’s Cauldron was right. He couldn't jump back down, couldn't throw his life away. There was still blood mist and his loved ones inside the Demonic Ancestor’s Cauldron. He had to take them away, to bring them back to life.
But could anyone truly be resurrected? Chu Feng didn’t know.
This day was the darkest of his life. His heart was so numb with grief, having lost too many.
“Yaoyao!” he called out in agony. Could he not even save this last person?
“I believe she will be fine. She was paramount under the ancient starry sky, and in this era, she could contend with Celestial Venerables, even cleaving Taiwu with her sword. Such a divinely gifted woman will not die like this!”
“Besides, she originally revived within the Great Abyss. Perhaps staying there is her true wish.”
“One day, she will reappear!”
“The Yang Realm will be overturned because of her!”
The Demonic Ancestor’s Cauldron transmitted its message, inspiring Chu Feng, giving him hope, urging him to rise, and encouraging him to be full of fighting spirit.
Chu Feng abruptly looked up and roared to the heavens like thunder, shaking this part of the starry sky.
“I will not fall! I will break into the Yang Realm! Taiwu’s true body is not dead; he is in the Yang Realm, enjoying the worship of countless beings. I will go there and kill him!”
Like a wounded lone wolf, having lost everything—no companions, no parents—he howled into the heavens and earth, his sorrow laced with defiance and unwillingness to yield.
Chu Feng’s soul light surged, his blood coalescing. He wanted to reform his true body. He would not be disheartened; he would go to the Yang Realm, rise up, and slay Taiwu’s true body!
Furthermore, there were also the three great Celestial Venerables: Hunyi, Yuanshi, and Luanyu, all his enemies. The Underworld was thrown into chaos because of them, and too many people had been killed.
“Nirvana Flower, Thunder Duke, Heavenly Blade, do you still possess spirits? I make a pact with you: we shall fight again in the Yang Realm!” Chu Feng roared, aiming to pierce through the cosmos, calling out to the true spirits and remnant souls who could share life and death with him, who could fight alongside him.
He would march into the Yang Realm!
The cold, dark cosmic wind swept past. A ripple in the vast expanse of time crashed, and Chu Feng’s soul light roared.
