Chapter 428: Moon Inheritance

The starry sky was silent; nothing remained. The bronze coffin, floating towards the edge of the universe, and the several figures that had vanished, never reappeared in the world.

Finally, complete silence settled here.

Chu Feng stood in the hall, watching the fading starry sky. It became blurry and indistinct once more, transforming back into the stone palace's ceiling.

All of it had vanished, but Chu Feng's heart could not settle. It was as if he had traversed many years, undertaking a journey through time. The experience was exceptionally heavy, impossible to forget or erase.

"The final trial has been passed. Conditions are met. The inheritance can now be activated."

At that moment, a cold voice, devoid of emotion, like a mechanical utterance, sounded in Chu Feng's ears, or perhaps in his mind. It was a psychic wave.

An energy tower also appeared here, more dilapidated, resembling dark technology. It had been continuously monitoring everything about Chu Feng—his thoughts, even his brainwaves were clearly captured.

From his bloodline to his spirit, and all other unquantifiable metrics, everything was clearly perceived by it. It determined that Chu Feng met the previously established criteria, allowing him a chance.

"Do you wish to activate the inheritance?" The ruined dark-red energy tower glowed, asking with cold indifference, devoid of warmth, as if it understood no flexibility.

"If I activate it, will I smoothly obtain everything?" Chu Feng asked.

"No. It's a perilous endeavor with only a slim chance of survival, but you can choose to withdraw at the end of each stage," the dark-red energy tower replied.

"Activate!" Chu Feng answered without hesitation.

Whoosh!

Instantly, the damaged dark-red energy tower opened a passage, like a narrow wormhole, directly sending Chu Feng through.

With a serious and solemn expression, he stepped through, appearing in a ring-shaped crater. It still seemed to be on the moon, under dim starlight.

Here, there was silence, only rocks, arranged in rows and columns, haphazardly strewn across the ground ahead.

The moment he walked past, his heart trembled violently, because every stone bore symbols—field runes—which immediately caught his eye. This was exactly what he desired!

Chu Feng focused all his attention, not daring to miss a single detail, observing these seemingly ancient stones and memorizing all the symbols on them.

There was no need to worry about not understanding; during this time, a psychic wave would envelop him, conveying the meaning and purpose of these field symbols.

This was virtually a direct transmission from a seasoned master, something utterly impossible in the past. No one had ever explained these concepts to Chu Feng before; he had always figured them out through practical experimentation.

For the first time in his life, someone was imparting knowledge and dispelling his doubts, explaining things in great detail. However, the speed was very fast; each time he scanned a rock, the psychic wave demonstrated the meaning only once.

He had to remember what he could; no one would repeat it for him if he couldn't.

Chu Feng avidly memorized every symbol on the rocks, imprinting them deep in his soul. Understanding them brought him spiritual joy, and a smile appeared on his face.

Some things he had researched himself, but had only ever partially understood, without complete clarity. Now, as if a window pane had been opened, he comprehended them fully.

There was an immense variety of field symbols, truly too many.

Chu Feng's pace gradually slowed, and the time he spent in front of each rock increased. He was digesting and absorbing the information, not rushing to simply memorize everything.

He wasn't rote memorizing; he was thoroughly grasping and clarifying everything. He often broke into a knowing smile, a sign of his spirit's delight and resonance.

Finally, as symbol after symbol shone, Chu Feng moved from the first rock to the last, unsure of how much time had passed. He felt as though he had learned everything.

"Do you wish to withdraw?"

At this moment, the cold voice sounded again. The dark-red energy tower, which had accompanied him throughout, appeared silently in the crater.

Clearly, this was the first stage, now concluded. Chu Feng had the right to withdraw from this place.

"No!" He shook his head. This was only the first step, and he intended to continue.

However, he found it strange: after hearing his reply, the dark-red energy tower became silent, ignoring him, and did not ask if he wanted to activate the next part of the inheritance.

Time passed, but he was still unable to enter the second stage.

Chu Feng felt puzzled and couldn't help but ask, "I've already understood the field symbols on these rocks, why can't I proceed? Why isn't the next stage activating?"

"Hmm?" He realized something was amiss. He gazed around, looking at the rock formations, and even leaped to a higher vantage point to survey the area.

"These rocks..."

The stones appeared chaotic at first glance, but upon closer inspection, he could clearly discern the nascent forms of field arrays. Some rocks, when combined, even formed strange, colossal symbols.

Chu Feng's mind was shaken. The stage he had just completed only granted him the option to withdraw; he was still far from progressing to the next. There were still profound mysteries he hadn't grasped, and thus, hadn't triggered the next phase.

At this moment, Chu Feng continuously rearranged the rocks, pondering them carefully. Each time he formed new field symbols, a psychic wave would sound, explaining them to him once more.

This wasn't him creating them himself; it was by combining the symbols he had learned earlier and completely comprehending what had been taught that he could advance further.

Eventually, he saw not just the rocks, but also a certain "qi"—the essence of a field, or "field qi." According to ancient texts, this "field qi" was an exceptionally profound and mysterious substance.

Only by understanding certain field arrays to a certain degree could one perceive them at a glance. It was a glowing qi, like threads and wisps, continuous and unending.

For field researchers, seeing this field qi was the ultimate affirmation, something they yearned for!

Chu Feng gazed at the field qi; countless threads connected, intertwining around different stones, indicating their relationships and forming colossal symbols.

Finally, as his understanding deepened, he looked around. The glowing threads in this area intertwined endlessly, like a spiderweb.

Perhaps, even more so, like an interwoven network of galaxies.

After Chu Feng comprehended everything, he gained insight into all the field symbols here, even discerning mature models that formed various types of modules.

There were defensive types, offensive types...

Chu Feng deduced and memorized them. He confirmed that he could see nothing more, and there was no way to gain further insight, so he finally stopped.

"You have overfulfilled the basic chapter of the first stage. Do you wish to continue and activate the inheritance?" The mechanical voice sounded again, though it was somewhat less cold now.

"Continue!" Chu Feng nodded.

He didn't know that "overfulfilled" was a form of evaluation, an astonishing affirmation!

Before this, the dark-red energy tower evaluated people by assigning stars: one star was considered a pass, while five stars indicated excellence, making one an outstanding inheritor.

After Chu Feng completed these tasks, it didn't assign stars but directly commented with "overfulfilled."

"In the first stage, your performance was exceptional; you overfulfilled everything. Given this, I must warn you that if you continue to be so astonishing in the second stage, it could be very dangerous, even life-threatening."

The dark-red energy tower's tone softened, and it spoke more, no longer so cold.

Chu Feng was startled. Was this an affirmation, a high evaluation of him? Only then did he notice that the previously cold and unfeeling energy tower had become somewhat softer toward him.

"Thank you!"

Chu Feng expressed his gratitude.

With a whoosh, the damaged dark-red energy tower opened a miniature wormhole, sending Chu Feng through.

The moment Chu Feng stepped out, his blood surged, his hair stood on end in anger, and his whole body trembled.

This was still a ring-shaped crater, and if there were no surprises, it was still on the moon.

Iron cavalry galloped. A knight in black-gold armor, grinning ferociously, held an iron spear. He chased a group of women and children, thrusting his spear forward. With a sickening sound, he impaled a twelve or thirteen-year-old boy, causing a large spray of blood. Then, with a violent shake, the boy screamed and was torn to pieces.

Wasn't this the exact scene Chu Feng had witnessed earlier, when he looked up in the palace? And now it was actually happening in reality?!

"Beasts!" Chu Feng roared, his eyes nearly bursting. His psychic fluctuations surged, and in that instant, he pulled out the Vajra Circle, ready to strike.

However, the mechanical voice of the dark-red energy tower sounded again: "Slay enemies using field arrays! Apply what you've learned! In any situation, you must maintain a calm mind!"

Chu Feng discovered that although he held the Vajra Circle, he couldn't throw it; he was restrained.

He instantly sobered up, looking around. There were various magnetic stones on the ground. He moved quickly, stepping forward, and many magnetic stones leaped up. His palm and fingers moved like knives, rapidly carving.

Then, the magnetic stones flew forward like raindrops, rattling.

However, it was still a bit late. An old woman was trampled by the grinning iron cavalry, her entire body a bloody mess, collapsing into a pool of blood.

Was this an event from the past, or was it truly happening now? Chu Feng felt a chill in his body, followed by a surge of furious blood. Relying on manually engraving the magnetic stones simply wouldn't work; he couldn't match the knight's speed.

"Imprint!"

The next moment, Chu Feng's forehead glowed. His spirit condensed into a beam of light there, then shot out, penetrating bone and illuminating the ground. He was directly imprinting field symbols into the various magnetic stones using his spirit.

Then, he stomped his foot, and all the magnetic stones on the ground leaped up, transforming into streaks of light that flew out, intercepting the iron cavalry and engulfing him.

At this point, the knight, with his gleaming white teeth and cruel smile, was already very close. His iron spear was about to touch a four or five-year-old girl, just moments from piercing her.

She was beautiful, but her face was as pale as snow, filled with despair and sorrow. Her eyes were tear-filled, and she looked towards her family members, fallen in pools of blood in the distance.

Chu Feng's heart felt choked. He had seemingly witnessed this scene before, beneath the starry sky. The girl's face was very familiar. He leaped up and lunged forward, turning his back to the iron spear, picking up the girl, and rolling away.

Behind him, the knight's cruel expression froze, because he couldn't thrust his spear forward. The magnetic stones encircled him, emitting dazzling light that blocked him, then transformed into a powerful offensive field array. With a bang, it crushed him, turning him into a mist of blood.

Chu Feng held the girl and felt her body temperature. She had tear stains and was breathing. Her large, tear-filled eyes and sorrowful face were so pitiable, making his heart ache.

He was inexplicably shocked!

This was a real body. Was none of this a trial? Not an illusion? His heart trembled.

"Big Brother, thank you!" The girl looked up at him, expressing her gratitude weakly. Then, tears streamed down her face as she looked towards her deceased family members in the distance.

Subsequently, she transformed into a shower of light and vanished from Chu Feng's embrace. Her weak yet grateful voice faded away with the light shower, saying, "Thank you..."

"This..." Chu Feng stood up, watching the light shower drift into the starry sky. His heart felt as though it too was ascending into the vast cosmic ocean, filled with a sense of wistfulness.

Then, his gaze intensified as he stared into the distance. Iron cavalry galloped wildly there, figure after figure—all pursuers, all executioners.

Many women and children were fleeing, escaping into the distance as their tribe faced annihilation. The helpless cries of young children were heartbreaking. The hunched figures of injured elders filled his heart with a suffocating feeling.

"Kill!" Chu Feng roared, like a wounded beast letting out a mournful howl. He charged forward, eager for a battle, ready to pour his entire being into it.

However, he did not lose his composure; he remained clear-headed.

The shouts of people and the neighing of horses, the cruel smiles and bloody methods of those executioners, made Chu Feng's blood boil, as if he had returned to that era of despair. He joined the fight, determined to rescue those pitiful people and carve out a path to survival!
