In a pool of water several feet square, there was a blurry figure of Chu Feng. But it wasn't a reflection; instead, it was showing past events from a certain era, which terrified him.
Could he really have had a past life? This completely overturned his understanding.
He had always believed that coming from the Lesser Netherworld was a form of material reincarnation, not a destined one, akin to his physical body being reassembled.
But now, he saw an ancient scene, with a being that seemed to be him appearing. Yet those eyes were incredibly sharp, as if they would shoot out from the water.
This made Chu Feng himself feel a burning pain, as if struck by two lightning bolts and incinerated by the strongest heavenly tribulation. Even as a Great God King, he could barely endure it.
Was that his past life from eons ago?
How could this be?
Regardless, he found it hard to believe and somewhat unacceptable.
Chu Feng didn't believe in fate. He didn't think he was someone else's reincarnation; he was simply himself. Even if he had traversed the reincarnation path, he was still himself.
But now, he was facing such a profound challenge to his understanding.
Suddenly realizing he was someone else, who could accept it? Who could believe it? He certainly didn't want to be someone else's shadow.
To suddenly awaken and discover, "I am not me"—that would be the most tragic thing.
Chu Feng stared at the water. The crystalline pool, several feet square, seemed like a terrifying world, bottomless and boundless. Though it looked small, it conveyed a sense of immense vastness, like a condensed universe.
In a trance, he saw suns, moons, and stars rotating. Countless colossal planets aligned and resonated, appearing as if they would burst forth from the water.
There, "his own" figure stood, as if looking down upon something, or perhaps recalling something, or simply reminiscing about the past.
Inadvertently, that person's gaze swept across billions of eons, reaching this current life and landing on Chu Feng, making his entire body feel as if it were burning.
That person was incredibly powerful.
Even though the figure was blurry, separated by infinite time and space, and it was merely a casual glance towards this place, it made Chu Feng, a Great God King, feel as if he were being incinerated by immortal flames.
What terrifying eyes!
Soon, he calmed down. There was no need to panic when facing something; one should resolve it. He stared at the small pool of water, pondering seriously if this was real.
Just then, he felt a wave of dizziness, almost collapsing. In this area, not far from the Sea of Reincarnation, countless people lay sprawled on the ground. They couldn't withstand the aura here, seeming to have fallen into an eternal, death-like sleep.
The stone jar on Chu Feng's person trembled slightly, emitting a wisp of crystalline light, which instantly sobered him up. A coolness enveloped him, and he was no longer drowsy.
He was startled. If he were to faint here, would he never wake up, dying in this place?
He looked into the water again. The scene and the figure within were dynamic, not just a simple display. They continued, evolving and unfolding.
"Bronze."
He gasped, certain he hadn't misseen. Amidst the swirling chaotic energy in the scene, he saw a corner of bronze, covered in rust.
Earlier, when he first glanced at the water, he had vaguely seen what looked like a coffin appearing and passing by. But it was very blurry, and he wasn't sure, only feeling a momentary chill.
But now he was certain. There really was a bronze coffin. It reappeared, then vanished into the mists of the water.
This made Chu Feng wish he could immediately strike through the Sea of Reincarnation, scatter the mist, and see clearly. It filled his heart with too much astonishment.
Because the bronze coffin he saw was extremely familiar. When he was at the First Mountain, Number Nine had shown him an ancient memory. In those scenes, there had been a bronze coffin.
Someone was sitting on a bronze coffin, drifting far away, watching countless worlds bleed, watching the heavens turn crimson under the setting sun, alone and desolate.
And there were those who placed themselves inside the coffin, not knowing where they were going or where they would end up, silently and lifelessly floating through the dark and cold universe.
Now, Chu Feng saw a bronze coffin here. The style was the same, rising and falling there. Could it be related to his past life?
What exactly was happening?
He was filled with suspicion, even wondering if this Sea of Reincarnation was real. Or was someone intentionally setting a trap? Or had this pool of water already become sentient and was plotting against him?
He felt a chill, because he truly didn't believe he had any connection to the bronze coffin.
Chu Feng stared at the crystalline pool, several feet square, intently observing the scene within. Then his body trembled, as he saw something even more astonishing.
Vaguely, he saw two coffins, not just one, and both had people with them.
His hair stood on end. What was going on? Had his past life been entangled with not just one coffin, but two?
Later, Chu Feng's eyes ached from staring, and soon he saw a third coffin. This one was empty, with no one inside, and it floated across.
"This situation is bizarre, outrageous!" He felt it was somewhat unbelievable.
Chu Feng looked up and scanned his surroundings. He suspected if someone was targeting him, triggering various illusions. No matter how he looked at it, it seemed too sinister, too strange.
He truly didn't believe he had any past life, and one that seemingly had an astonishing origin.
"What is that place?"
Afterwards, he saw countless enormous planets in the water. All were desolate, dry, and devoid of life. The entire universe seemed like a graveyard.
It somewhat resembled the Lesser Netherworld.
However, the Lesser Netherworld where Chu Feng resided now had life, with many vibrant planets appearing.
In an instant, he recalled Yuan Ling's words: that the Lesser Netherworld was once a mausoleum, personally buried by an Emperor to conceal the past, a place where countless bones once lay.
Could what Yuan Ling said be true? And was he now seeing scenes from infinite eons ago through the Sea of Reincarnation?
"Who am I?" Chu Feng asked himself.
He again thought of Number Nine's words: that an unfathomably supreme being had once orchestrated everything on Earth, recreating certain past events.
What did this mean?
At the time, he was still somewhat confused and skeptical. But now, he felt as if he had grasped a thread of truth, and his conjecture sent shivers down his spine.
Chu Feng truly felt a sense of dread, a coldness from head to toe. Even his soul light emitted chill. His entire being felt frozen, stiff with cold in this place.
Some things, if you don't understand or delve into them, might lead to more peace. But one day, suddenly discovering the truth and lifting a veil of mist, would bring a sense of fear.
"Who exactly am I, and what are my origins?"
In the past, he had only considered himself a new life form, with no messy past. But now, his scalp tingled.
"It couldn't be that this place is sinister, that someone is plotting against me, deliberately misleading me, making me overthink things," he murmured. Yet horrifying golden symbols appeared in his eyes. He used his Fiery Golden Eyes to scan the surroundings, hoping to see through the area and discern any abnormalities.
In the end, he found nothing. The place was utterly silent. There were no other awakened beings whatsoever, and no unusual soul energy fluctuations.
Chu Feng took out the stone jar and rubbed it with his hand. Then, he prepared to use this unique supreme ancient artifact to touch the Sea of Reincarnation.
There was a saying that to unravel the mysteries of one's past reincarnations, one only needed to break the Sea of Reincarnation. However, few could accomplish this.
The Sea of Reincarnation was untouchable, not to be probed. If its tranquility was forcibly disturbed, one would be swallowed, lost forever, never to reappear.
Only special beings, supreme-level experts, those immensely powerful, could attempt it.
Or, one needed to possess a supreme treasure to explore it.
Chu Feng believed that the stone jar was absolutely extraordinary. After all, it had existed for several epochs and had drifted through various evolutionary paths. It must have an incredibly significant origin.
"I will break the tranquility of the Sea of Reincarnation. I want to see what truth lies beneath this pool, what secrets will be revealed to me!"
He moved, forcefully pressing the stone jar down.
