Chu Feng fished the bottle out of the lake, examined it carefully, and read the text aloud.
"Black Blood Journal," he read. "It seems to be associated with something called the Black Blood Institute, which maintains good relations and various dealings with major evolutionary aristocratic families. Its background is unfathomably deep."
Upon hearing this, Jiu You was instantly startled. "It's them!" he exclaimed. "So they still exist in the world."
"You know about them?" Chu Feng asked, surprised. He also wondered silently to himself: there was a mysterious Black Blood Platform in the Minor Underworld that he hadn't managed to investigate before he left. How could there be a Black Blood Institute in the Yang Realm?
"How could I not know?" Jiu You retorted. "This Black Blood Institute existed during my elder brother's era, standing supreme and looking down upon the world. They were incredibly sinister! They even dared to scheme to collect my brother's blood for analysis and research. In response, my brother, with his power, simply picked up a dragon corpse, used it as a whip, and directly killed one of their deputy directors. He then pursued and purged the organization across the entire world. Although he eliminated many terrifying evolvers, he still couldn't find their main headquarters."
Chu Feng was speechless. The lives of such formidable, unrestrained individuals required no explanation; when their temper flared, they were simply crude and unrefined. When faced with an issue, there was no discussion—they'd just grab a dragon and eliminate you without a word!
At the same time, he strongly suspected that his elder brother's fearsome reputation hadn't truly spread across the world yet.
If the Black Blood Institute knew that Jiu You's elder brother most enjoyed underhanded tactics, often setting his sights on the old patriarchs of ultimate aristocratic families and even dealing with martial lunatics when issues arose, they would likely burst into tears upon learning this and flee as far as possible.
Indeed, just as Chu Feng expected, Jiu You said, "My elder brother once lamented that he hadn't met the right people at the right time. He always remembered, wanting to use underhanded tactics against a few leaders of this institute, but he searched for many years and never found them."
Chu Feng was speechless for a moment, then finally asked, "How strong is the Black Blood Institute?"
"Very strong," Jiu You replied. "According to my elder brother, if they had fought him to the very end, regardless of the cost, by bringing out the immortal old beings slumbering within their institute for a bloody battle, they would likely be no weaker than the strongest orthodoxies in the Yang Realm that possess ultimate breathing techniques."
Chu Feng gasped upon hearing this. What more could be said? Such a maniac was simply unreasonable and terrifyingly powerful, causing even the formidable Black Blood Institute to pinch their noses, admit defeat, and retreat like cowards, unfazed by public ridicule.
"If I were to have a son, he should be like... your elder brother!" Chu Feng sighed.
"Tsk, what kind of talk is that?!"
Then, while Jiu You was distracted, Chu Feng's sword light flashed, and with a series of clanging blows, he hacked off several more small pieces of Heaven Gold Stone. He then promptly threw them into the message bottle, asking various questions.
Needless to say, the place immediately erupted into chaos with squawks, barks, and the coffin rattling, a cacophony of noise as they began to bicker. Chu Feng nearly fell into the blue lake multiple times.
Finally, after a long time, peace returned.
However, a distant anomaly startled Chu Feng again, making his eyes widen. He quickly shook the stone coffin and exclaimed, "Second Brother, look! Someone's becoming an immortal!"
On the distant island in the lake, mist swirled, and immortal light surged, creating an astonishingly sacred spectacle. It appeared as though someone was ascending to immortality, seemingly about to rise to the heavens.
"Becoming an immortal? Hmph, it's just a delusion," Jiu You sneered. "All immortals were annihilated back then!"
"What? Immortals were all annihilated?" Chu Feng exclaimed, finding this news rather shocking.
"What's so strange about that?" Jiu You replied. "Ultimate beings who have lived long enough, and aristocratic families that have existed for over a hundred million years, all know that there was once an Era of Immortal Burial in the immensely long river of time. During that period, every single immortal, as a species, was completely annihilated."
"Wait, slow down," Chu Feng interrupted. "That sounds a bit preposterous! Explain it in more detail. Even immortals have become a kind of creature, and they were completely wiped out? That's far too shocking to believe!"
Chu Feng pressed for more information, wanting to understand that period and the hidden truth behind it.
"Don't be so disbelieving," Jiu You insisted. "Some aristocratic families originated in that very period, passing down through generations since the Era of Immortal Burial. Their ancestors personally experienced it and know the intricate details. Some ultimate beings from that time are even still alive today!"
Chu Feng was shocked and dumbfounded upon hearing this, feeling increasingly that these waters ran far too deep and were utterly terrifying.
Jiu You suddenly became profound, his eyes impossibly deep. He said, "Through all ages, no matter how distant the era, even if a veil is intentionally drawn from the heavens, it cannot conceal the truth. Even if endless dust of time is scattered, it cannot seal away the old affairs. It must eventually overturn. There are always some evolvers still alive, and some past events still resurface in alternative ways. In the end, no one can escape!"
Chu Feng was moved. These words seemed to contain some chilling information. What exactly did Jiu You know, and what was he trying to convey?!
Chu Feng became very serious and asked Jiu You for guidance, treating him as a senior for advice with such earnestness and respect for the first time.
Jiu You coughed. "Ahem, those words just now? My elder brother said them while standing on the highest peak of the Yang Realm, looking down upon the primordial lands, after roasting a true dragon... and burping contentedly."
Upon hearing this, Chu Feng wanted to beat him to death!
So those weren't Jiu You's own words, but just him borrowing them to feign profoundness?
"I want to push you off the highest peak of the Yang Realm!" Chu Feng snapped. "If it's not you, why bother saying anything?!"
"Watch your words," Jiu You admonished. "Young people are so impetuous. What did I just hear? Did you call me... a senior?"
"Second Brother!"
Chu Feng asked seriously, "Then tell me about other things, like the Era of Immortal Burial. How were the immortals annihilated?"
To him, this was truly earth-shattering and immensely important. Even as a mortal, he had loved reading books about strange and bizarre phenomena, and he yearned for the divine.
Now, suddenly hearing that immortals, as a species, had been completely wiped out, genuinely shocked him to his core.
"That was a very special period," Jiu You explained. "It was likely a certain evolutionary nexus, a crossroads where two evolutionary paths intersected, leading to a massive collision!"
Upon hearing these words, Chu Feng was moved. The Era of Immortal Burial marked the first encounter between two evolutionary civilizations, which then unleashed unparalleled destructive power and exploded into a cataclysmic confrontation.
Chu Feng was lost in thought. Did this lead to the extinction of the immortal path?
"Evolution has always been about the survival of the fittest, where the strong prevail over the weak," Jiu You sighed. "Once conflict begins, and different evolutionary civilizations intersect, a victor must be decided. I believe this is how the immortal species was completely wiped out!"
Chu Feng still couldn't believe it. Immortals simply purged and erased from the world? Unthinkable.
"Some also say that we didn't win; on the contrary, we were the defeated. Our evolutionary path was broken, and we lost the war. The ultimate evolvers capable of contending with the immortal race were trapped on the severed path."
This news was truly unnerving. Chu Feng frowned, pondering deeply, as even Jiu You couldn't confirm these details, treating them merely as rumors.
The mainstream belief, however, was that immortals were completely annihilated, and the Yang Realm was the sole victor. At that evolutionary nexus, during that clash of divergent evolutionary branches, the Yang Realm achieved a great victory.
Chu Feng said, "Repeat those words your elder brother spoke while standing on the highest peak of the Yang Realm."
Jiu You complied, having no objection to repeating his elder brother's words.
Chu Feng sighed softly, always feeling as though a vast net, invisible yet slowly descending, stretched across all ages, instilling a growing dread.
"Overthrowing the cosmos, transcending all eternity, and those other evolutionary branches—where do they all extend now?"
