Chapter 770: Two-Headed Dog

Ren Guhong rubbed his nose.

This was awkward! He had been caught red-handed trying to trick them.

But suddenly, he reacted. "Wait!" he exclaimed. "You have the nerve to criticize us? Didn't you run back yourself? It's the same, aren't you hoping we'll distract the hell creatures?"

Wu Manyue gritted her teeth in anger. Embarrassed and furious, she swung her fists wildly at the air in front of her. "You bastard! You've taken advantage of me inside and out! I'll fight you to the death!"

"Quiet!" Jiang Fan suddenly barked. He had just realized a serious problem. "If we've all come back, haven't the hell creatures been drawn back too?"

Wu Manyue's expression tightened, her waving fist stopping mid-air. Ren Guhong's pupils also contracted. The two instantly fell silent. Only the faint hum of the formation's radiating light remained.

The three held their breath, not daring to make another sound.

A hum— A shimmering sound. White light shot up, enveloping the three and teleporting them away.

Jiang Fan's heart finally settled. They had narrowly escaped.

The familiar sensation of vertigo returned. But then, unexpectedly, a giant claw, burning with pitch-black flames, suddenly pierced through the light beam. It slammed down fiercely towards the three!

The spatial teleportation was instantly interrupted! Chaotic spatial energy violently knocked all three out of the light beam, saving them from being caught by the giant claw.

While still in mid-air, Jiang Fan decisively activated Cloud Shadow. With a ripping sound— he barely transformed into lightning and moved sideways.

Bang— A massive claw slammed down exactly where he had been moments before. Space itself trembled slightly, and a harsh tearing sound pierced his ears. A split second later, he would have been a pile of gore.

He decisively summoned his flying sword and stood upon it in mid-air. Looking down, his pupils contracted. It was a terrifying creature, nearly a hundred feet long, covered in black flames. Its body resembled a dog, but it had two heads. Its mouths were filled with sharp fangs, from which sticky black drool dripped. Its eyes glowed red, revealing brutality and cunning.

Ren Guhong and Wu Manyue were lucky; they were thrown further away and weren't immediately attacked. However, their Dustless Talismans had been shaken off, revealing their forms. Ren Guhong gazed at the colossal fiend in horror, his voice trembling: "A Two-Headed Hellhound! It's actually *it*! Even the Pavilion Master was forced out of the tenth floor by it back then! What are those monks doing? How did they let it up here!" he muttered, his voice shaking.

He quickly took out a pair of withered wings and put them on. After infusing them with spiritual energy, he transformed into a streak of light and shot off into the distance.

Wu Manyue had already sensed the danger earlier. She tore open a spatial scroll and fled for her life on the spot.

The Two-Headed Hellhound's two heads each glanced at them, a look of amusement in their eyes. One head opened its mouth and roared, emitting a low sound wave. The spatial energy that had just emerged from the spatial scroll was swept away and dissipated. The other head, meanwhile, locked its gaze on Ren Guhong. With a snap, it fired a blood-red beam of light.

Ren Guhong, who was almost at the horizon, was instantly hit and fell. Wu Manyue's pupils contracted sharply, and she stammered, "It... it can suppress spatial abilities." Both heads simultaneously turned to look at her, their eyes gleaming with cruelty.

Wu Manyue's body stiffened, and her breath caught. She felt as if she had been thrown into the ocean, an boundless, bone-chilling cold surrounding her and dragging her into the dark depths.

Whoosh— Just then, a clap of thunder suddenly sounded in her ears. Before she could react, a powerful arm wrapped around her waist. Immediately, her body shot backward.

Her vision finally focused. She saw the Two-Headed Hellhound rapidly receding, emitting angry roars. Then she turned her head. It was Jiang Fan! Wu Manyue froze for a moment: "You... you saved me?"

She hadn't expected anyone to save her. Her usual actions meant she wouldn't have many friends. As for Jiang Fan, it was even less likely; it would have been good enough if he hadn't kicked her while she was down.

Jiang Fan's expression was grim. As he swiftly used Cloud Shadow, he said: "If the lips are gone, the teeth will be cold. If you two die, I'm next. I'll take you to a safe place. Then the three of us will escape separately. That way, our chances of survival are greater." If Wu Manyue died and Ren Guhong's fate was unknown, the Two-Headed Hellhound would undoubtedly turn its attention to relentlessly pursue Jiang Fan. Rather than that, it was better to save them. If all three ran in different directions, the chance of being chased would be reduced by more than half.

Wu Manyue remained stunned and silent. Soon after, Jiang Fan teleported to where Ren Guhong had fallen. Surprisingly, he was still alive. He didn't know what those withered wings were, but not only were they incredibly fast, they had actually blocked the Two-Headed Hellhound's attack! Ren Guhong was only shaken and injured, but his life wasn't in danger. He looked at Jiang Fan, who had arrived on a lightning dragon, with an astonished expression. He was thoroughly shocked by the sight.

"Go!" Jiang Fan didn't have time for explanations and helped him up.

Roar— The Two-Headed Hellhound roared again. A terrifying blood-red beam shot across the vast distance. Jiang Fan's heart tightened. He activated Cloud Shadow once more, piloting the lightning dragon and instantly disappearing from sight.

Roar, roar, roar— Feeling greatly provoked, the Two-Headed Hellhound stared with its four blood-red eyes and furiously gave chase. Whoosh, whoosh—

After five successive teleports, Jiang Fan put the two down and said, "My lightning energy is exhausted. You two! We're on our own now! Farewell!"

He activated his movement technique and headed into the distance. Ren Guhong clasped his hands in greeting and quickly chose a direction to flee. Wu Manyue pressed her lips together, gave Jiang Fan a complicated look, and departed in another direction.

In just over ten breaths, the Two-Headed Hellhound came galloping, its black flames scorching the ground along its path. Its two heads sniffed the ground. Then, they both lifted, staring fiercely in Jiang Fan's direction. With a push of its four legs, it sped off in pursuit.

The moment it locked onto him, Jiang Fan sensed it. "This damn dog!" Jiang Fan's expression darkened. He couldn't escape its pursuit after all!

After a moment of thought, he pulled out a bronze formation disk and scanned the surrounding terrain. He spotted two tall mountains ahead. Between the two mountains lay a not-so-wide mountain path. He decisively ran into the mountain path. Then, he buried the bronze formation disk underground.

While this formation disk could indeed trap enemies, its drawback was equally clear: the enemy had to be in close proximity. In an open area, the Two-Headed Hellhound's movement could not be predicted. It would very likely bypass the range of the formation activated by the bronze disk. Only in a similar narrow mountain path, if the Two-Headed Hellhound passed through, it would inevitably fall within the formation's range.

He had barely finished burying it when the hellhound arrived before the two mountains. Jiang Fan's expression changed. He quickly ran into the distance. In his mind, he silently listened to the sounds behind him, judging how deep the Two-Headed Hellhound had entered the mountain path. There was only one chance. He had to activate the formation disk at the most opportune moment.

However, what made Jiang Fan's heart sink was this: There was no movement behind him. Utter silence. This gave him an extremely bad premonition.

He turned his head to look. The Two-Headed Hellhound had not pursued him into the mountain path.

A drop of black, viscous drool suddenly fell from above, landing on the ground beside Jiang Fan and corroding a hole through it.

Jiang Fan looked up. His pupils constricted to pinpricks! The Two-Headed Hellhound was perched on the mountainside, its four limbs splayed. Its two massive heads slowly extended forward. Its four blood-red eyes were filled with cruelty and mockery!
