"Om Mani Padme Hum!"
The sudden Buddhist chant made everyone's flesh pulsate and bones rattle. Their ears buzzed, and their primordial spirits nearly burst from their foreheads. A grand sound of the Great Dao resonated from their Immortal Platform.
The four ancient characters for "Great Thunderclap Temple" were inscribed on a bronze plaque. They exuded a supreme, sacred, and divine majesty that forbade desecration. Although the bronze was mottled with rust, it could not conceal its ancient and grand aura.
It was as if an ancient scroll had yellowed with age, bearing the sorrow and solitude of eons.
This was, surprisingly, the Great Thunderclap Temple! It appeared due to the seed in Ye Fan's hand. Although it was a mere illusion, its presence rivaled the heavens, inspiring both reverence and awe.
The majestic ancient building stood beneath the setting sun, bathed in a golden glow, exuding sacred solemnity amidst its mottled antiquity.
It was an immersive experience; this did not seem like an illusion. It felt as if they had truly arrived at Mount Sumeru, standing before the ancient temple, witnessing the reincarnation of all beings and the nirvana of Buddhas.
The Buddhist chant resonated for only six tones before falling silent and returning to tranquility. Only a grand aura remained, making one want to prostrate before the ancient temple, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun.
"Strange," said the Golden Lion, "where did you get this seed? It must be related to those monks' methods." The Heavenly Scorpion and others were equally uneasy.
On this ancient path, the methods of Amitabha Buddha were still known. All the great figures kept a respectful distance, unwilling to be entangled in any karma with Buddhism, as the consequences would be unimaginable.
"It's the seed of another Buddha," Ye Fan said.
This Bodhi seed was obtained from the Great Thunderclap Temple on the ancient planet Yinghuo. It had been with him for many years and had greatly aided his enlightenment in the early stages. Now, even here, it had caused a strange phenomenon.
"Shakyamuni... Golden Cicada's master?!"
Everyone gasped, for in recent years, they had heard of that young holy monk. His magical power was immense; he had traversed the ancient paths of various races, suppressed all champions, and had never been defeated, making him unmatched throughout the world.
When the Black Bear Saint and others heard how Ye Fan obtained the Bodhi seed, they were all stunned. An old tree had turned to ash, yielding only this single fruit. This was clearly a process of—Nirvana.
"This is an immortal medicine of Buddhism," someone among the Twelve Saints said. "It was once held by Amitabha Buddha and planted on Mount Sumeru. Later, it drifted to an alien ancient star." At a glance, they discerned that this seed was definitely transformed from that ancient tree, as they knew all about the few immortal medicines in the world.
There might be thousands of Bodhi trees, but the true ancestral tree, the immortal medicine, has only one existence within Buddhism.
Ye Fan pondered, saying, "There are too many strange things about it!"
This was Amitabha Buddha's immortal medicine, which appeared on the ancient planet Yinghuo and was once held by Shakyamuni. Eventually, the entire ancient tree underwent nirvana, and he took its seed.
"This is an immortal medicine; there's no reason Shakyamuni would abandon it!" Ye Fan was puzzled, his heart filled with questions.
Could it be that Shakyamuni was truly Amitabha Buddha's demonic shell, an opposing force, and thus abandoned the ancient Bodhi tree, taking a different path from orthodox Buddhism?
Or was it that the ancient Bodhi tree was undergoing nirvana and could not be taken away at that moment, needing to achieve great perfection on the ancient planet Yinghuo?
Or was it that Shakyamuni was opposed to Emperor Amitabha, and caused the entire ancient Bodhi tree to undergo nirvana, shedding its past to be reborn as a new immortal medicine?
Ye Fan's head ached as he considered many possibilities.
"Buddhism places the most emphasis on karma and must never be provoked," the Golden Lion said. "One of my ancestors was converted by Buddhism."
There was once an old lion whose attainments were profound and whose divine power was unmatched. He had reached the Quasi-Emperor realm, yet merely by cultivating a Buddhist divine ability, he inexplicably converted to the faith.
"That was a supreme prodigy of my clan," the Golden Lion said. "Yet, he resolutely entered the ancient star domain of Amitabha and pledged allegiance to Emperor Amitabha, even though the two had never met before."
Everyone gasped again. The divine abilities of Buddhism were truly too bizarre; even a Quasi-Emperor had been converted and became a renowned Supreme Protector.
Everyone knew that it was most likely the work of Emperor Amitabha; otherwise, it would be impossible for that old golden lion to enter an alien land and become reverent without ever having met him.
"Buddhism has nine great protective seals," Pang Bo asked. "Surely, the Fearless Lion Seal wasn't created by your ancestor, was it?"
"Indeed," the Golden Lion replied.
Hearing this, everyone gasped again. This was truly terrifying; that old lion, who had left a glorious mark in cultivation history, had actually been converted.
"Ye Zi, this thing is strange; it seems you shouldn't get involved with it!" Pang Bo's expression turned grave.
The Golden Lion and Black Bear Saint also agreed unanimously that the waters of Buddhism were too deep; one could not create karma with them, or one would surely be deeply entangled in the future.
Ye Fan muttered to himself, "So many years have passed; Emperor Amitabha should have long since passed away and not be alive in this world."
"But don't forget," Pang Bo solemnly warned, "there's also Shakyamuni, who is equally unfathomable. Don't let him scheme against you."
Ye Fan opened his palm, and the Bodhi seed rested there, covered with intricate, naturally formed patterns. One set of markings depicted Ye Fan himself.
Back then, it was originally a statue of Shakyamuni, but Ye Fan eventually refined it and carefully nurtured it, and it ultimately transformed into his own image.
Now, he clearly felt something was amiss. Only the outer shell had changed; the Bodhi seed still contained the true essence of Buddhism, otherwise, the Great Thunderclap Temple would not have appeared now.
"Rumble!"
Suddenly, an earth-shattering sound erupted. The Great Thunderclap Temple gradually receded, and a battle between divine dynasties appeared, resembling a clash of ancient gods.
"This is..." Ye Fan was greatly surprised. This was the illusion he had seen when he returned to the ancient planet Yinghuo.
Yinghuo had a sea eye that had buried too many saints. The ancient crocodile suppressed by Shakyamuni had once tried to enter it to steal immortal treasures.
Not only had Ye Fan encountered the ancient crocodile there and seen the Old Man, the Human Devil, but he had also seen that sea eye which had swallowed everything from the ancient planet's past. It was a relic of a divine war, suspected to have involved ancient Holy Emperors.
"Hmm, am I overthinking this?" Ye Fan muttered to himself. "Was the ancient Bodhi divine tree left there simply to suppress the burial ground on the ancient planet Yinghuo?"
"What Emperor Amitabha? What Shakyamuni? Can they bite me?" The Dragon Horse had a rascally look. "Since I've obtained this immortal medicine seed, how could I give it back? It's mine for sure!" This was a life principle it had learned from the Black Sovereign: once a good thing was in its hands, how could it let go?
"Crack!"
Just then, the Bodhi seed cracked open, and a tender sprout emerged. A supreme life essence overflowed from it, making everyone feel as if they were about to ascend, their entire bodies glowing.
"The Bodhi shell has broken!" someone exclaimed. "The seed is going to take root and sprout!"
Is this an immortal medicine? It contained an immortal aura. That life essence was so powerful it could absolutely regenerate living beings. No wonder it could allow ancient Great Emperors to live a second life.
"At this moment, it has achieved perfection; its nirvana is successful," someone commented. "Like the Qilin divine medicine seed, it can now grow again."
Everyone sighed in wonder. This was an immortal medicine, and now it had gained new life, poised to grow into a divine tree.
Both the Qilin divine medicine and the Bodhi seed had undergone nirvana because their original parent plants had suffered calamity. Now, they simultaneously gained new life.
"These are two divine medicines... What does this mean?!" The Dragon Horse was drooling profusely, almost forming a small stream.
Within the array, the Qilin divine medicine had already sprouted roots and grown a pair of leaves. It was entirely purple, shimmering with colorful light, crystal clear, and palm-height.
The Qilin's form was transforming into a root system; the fruits it would bear in the future would be Qilin-shaped, and its brilliant purple leaves also bore Qilin patterns, making it mysterious and unfathomable.
"There's a will contained within it!" Pang Bo exclaimed, staring at the ancient Qilin medicine.
Strictly speaking, this immortal medicine had existed since the Mythological Era. While everyone else in the world would die, only immortal medicines could endure.
In this era, only they could truly achieve eternal life.
"Every divine medicine has its own will," Ye Fan said, "otherwise, they wouldn't be able to fly and tunnel, choose their own soil to live in, or undergo nirvana and rebirth."
Seriously, immortal medicines are living ancient histories. Who could have lived longer than them? Furthermore, having accompanied ancient Great Emperors, they must hold astonishing secrets.
Everyone present was naturally moved. Since it had revived and was no longer lifeless, it could now be explored.
However, when Ye Fan's divine consciousness entered the Qilin divine medicine, it merely trembled timidly. It was completely blank, holding no memories of the ancient era whatsoever.
"That's right," Ye Fan sighed softly, filled with regret. "It underwent nirvana and severed its connection with the past. This is its next life; naturally, it can't remember past events."
Otherwise, perhaps the secrets of ancient Great Emperors, Primordial Sovereigns, and even the Mythological Era could have been glimpsed from the immortal medicine!
"Ancient medicines have lived continuously from the Mythological Era to the present, truly achieving eternal life in the world," one of the Twelve Saints pondered. "Every ancient Great Emperor had an immortal medicine accompanying them. Did they glimpse the greatest opportunity to become an immortal?"
From ancient times to the present, almost every Great Emperor had an immortal medicine. This alone proved one point: they were too important, containing the secret of eternal life.
"There are rumors in the world that immortal medicines are related to immortals. By peering into them, one might be able to enter the Immortal Realm," said one of the Twelve Saints, who were all of significant origins, with ancestors who were primordial exotic species, and thus knew a great deal.
"Hmm, no, that's not right. This Bodhi tree has another vague will!" Ye Fan's expression changed. After exploring the ancient Qilin medicine, he went to explore the newly rooted and sprouted seed.
It was just a wisp, very vague, but it was firmly affixed and couldn't be removed, quickly merging with the Bodhi seed. Ye Fan pondered that it was no wonder the Great Thunderclap Temple and similar phenomena had appeared; it must have been this faint will at work.
Pang Bo, the Dragon Horse, the Golden Lion, and others also explored it one by one, and all their expressions changed. Was this Shakyamuni, or Emperor Amitabha? It sent shivers down their spines! This Bodhi seed was not simple; it still belonged to Buddhism and contained their will.
"Now this is big trouble, what do we do?" Even the greedy Dragon Horse felt a headache coming on.
"What can we do?" Ye Fan said. "Since things are already like this, let's just fully obtain it and erase that wisp of will!" He sat cross-legged and cast spells with all his might, but no matter how many divine abilities he used or how hard he tried, he couldn't dissipate that seemingly faint, vague will.
"It's no use; it can't be worn away, this wisp of will can't be dissipated," Pang Bo said, sweating profusely. Even with the Nine Demon Emperor Slashes, he couldn't cut it off.
"Indeed, Buddhist items shouldn't be touched. This could be big trouble, potentially leading to major karma in the future!" the Golden Lion said, thinking of his ancestor.
"Regardless of whether it's Shakyamuni or Emperor Amitabha, it cannot be allowed to attach itself to this," Ye Fan said, also worried about future problems. His eyes grew cold as he looked at the four dark-red killing swords deep within his Life Spring.
"You're going to..." Everyone else was startled.
"Use these four killing swords to eliminate this wisp of will!" Ye Fan replied.
"Using the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords against a Buddhist Emperor, that's actually a good idea," Pang Bo said with a grin. "Just don't cleave us too."
Ye Fan replied firmly: "I want to achieve enlightenment under the Bodhi tree and create my own ancient scripture. I don't want an unknown will observing my every move. I must eradicate it, otherwise, everything about my past will be known to it, and it will be a major hidden danger sooner or later."
