Chapter 678: Miserable Zhangmen, Miserable
Cuiyi and the others were so agitated that their mouths were wide open, looking like they could swallow a fist. The disciples of the various sects were even more shocked, their faces pale. No matter how foolish they were, they knew that in this situation, they were finished.
"My lords, please have mercy! We were wrong, we were truly wrong! Please spare our lives!"
Everyone immediately knelt down, wailing loudly. These were not the disciples of the major sects, they were cannon fodder. They had been forced to come here, and their cultivation levels were generally low. Most of them were at the Foundation Establishment or early Core Formation stage. Facing the combined attack of so many cultivators at the peak of the Core Formation stage, they had no chance of resisting.
The disciples of the major sects, however, looked ashen, despair filling their eyes. Although they were arrogant, they weren't fools. They knew that even if their sects came, it would take time. At this moment, they were completely surrounded.
"I am a disciple of the Blood Blade Sect, Zhangmen Shixiong, please spare me!"
"I am a disciple of the Spirit Sword Sect, Shixiong, please spare me!"
"I am a disciple of the Pill Sect..."
One by one, the disciples of the major sects started pleading, revealing their sect affiliations. They hoped that this would deter the attackers. After all, these attackers were from small sects, and going against so many major sects at once would be a disaster for them.
However, their hopes were in vain. The expressions of the attackers remained cold, completely unmoved by their pleas.
"The Blood Blade Sect is formidable, but unfortunately, we are not intimidated!"
"The Spirit Sword Sect is powerful, but you are not your sect elders!"
"The Pill Sect is indeed impressive, but your current situation is quite unfortunate!"
The voices of the attackers were like ice, devoid of any emotion. Their gazes were fixed on the disciples of the major sects, filled with killing intent.
The disciples of the major sects suddenly felt their hearts sink. They realized that these attackers were not afraid of them at all. They were facing a desperate situation.
"Why are you doing this?"
A disciple of the Blood Blade Sect clenched his fists, his face full of anger. "Are you not afraid of our sect's revenge?"
A burly cultivator snorted coldly. "Revenge? We are doing this precisely because of your sects! You have oppressed us for too long! Now, it is time for you to pay the price!"
"That's right! Your sects have lorded over us for so long! Today, we will make you experience what it's like to be at the bottom!"
"Kill them all! Let's see if your sects will dare to act so arrogant after this!"
The attackers roared in unison, their voices filled with righteous indignation. They were like starving wolves who had finally found their prey.
The disciples of the major sects were speechless, their faces even paler. They had never imagined that these small sects would dare to retaliate. They had always thought that these small sects were weak and cowardly, easily manipulated. But now, they realized how wrong they were. They had pushed these small sects too far, and now they were facing the consequences.
"Kill them!"
With a roar, the attackers charged forward, unleashing a torrent of attacks.
"Ah!"
Screams of pain echoed through the air as the disciples of the minor sects were instantly overwhelmed and killed. They were like ants in the face of a flood, their struggles futile.
The disciples of the major sects, although they had higher cultivation levels, were also no match for the sheer numbers and ferocity of the attackers. They fought back desperately, but they were quickly being picked off one by one.
Cuiyi and the others watched in horror as the scene unfolded before them. They had never witnessed such brutality. The ground was quickly littered with bodies, and the air was thick with the smell of blood.
"Let's go!"
Cuiyi's voice trembled as she grabbed Xiao Han's arm. They couldn't stay here any longer.
Xiao Han nodded, his face grim. He had never expected things to escalate to this point. He had thought that these small sects would be easily intimidated, but he was wrong. They were desperate and resentful, and they were willing to risk everything for revenge.
As they turned to leave, a voice suddenly rang out.
"Stop!"
Cuiyi and Xiao Han froze. They turned around to see a group of cultivators approaching them. They were led by a burly man with a scar across his face.
"You two are from the Blood Blade Sect, right?" the burly man said, his eyes gleaming with malice. "You can't leave yet."
Cuiyi's heart sank. They had been recognized.
"We...we are not with them," Cuiyi stammered.
The burly man chuckled. "Don't lie to me. I saw you talking to them earlier. You are all in this together!"
He then turned to his companions and said, "Capture them! We'll make them pay for the Blood Blade Sect's arrogance!"
The cultivators charged forward, their weapons raised.
Cuiyi and Xiao Han knew that they couldn't escape. They were surrounded, and they were outnumbered.
"Fight!"
Cuiyi roared, drawing her sword. Xiao Han also drew his weapon, ready to defend himself.
They fought back desperately, but they were quickly overwhelmed. Cuiyi was struck by a powerful blow and sent flying, while Xiao Han was disarmed and captured.
The burly man walked up to Xiao Han, a cruel smile on his face.
"Now, little fellow, let's see how tough you are!"
He then raised his fist, ready to strike.
Suddenly, a voice echoed through the air.
"Stop!"
Everyone turned to see a figure standing on a nearby hill. It was a man in a white robe, his face obscured by a hood.
"Who are you?" the burly man demanded.
The figure did not answer. Instead, he raised his hand and unleashed a powerful attack.
A blinding light erupted from his hand, engulfing the burly man and his companions.
"Ah!"
Screams of pain filled the air as the attackers were instantly vaporized.
Cuiyi and Xiao Han watched in shock as the figure descended from the hill. He walked towards them, his steps silent.
As he approached, Cuiyi and Xiao Han could finally see his face.
It was Mu Ruoyan.
"You...you are Zhangmen Shixiong!" Cuiyi exclaimed, tears welling up in her eyes.
Mu Ruoyan nodded, a faint smile on his face.
"Are you two alright?" he asked.
Cuiyi and Xiao Han nodded, still in shock.
Mu Ruoyan then turned to the scene of the massacre, his eyes filled with a mixture of sadness and anger.
"This is the result of greed and oppression," he said, his voice low. "The major sects have pushed these small sects too far, and now they are paying the price."
He then turned back to Cuiyi and Xiao Han.
"Let's go," he said. "We need to leave this place."
Cuiyi and Xiao Han nodded, and they followed Mu Ruoyan, leaving the scene of the tragedy behind.
As they walked, Cuiyi couldn't help but ask, "Zhangmen Shixiong, why are you here?"
Mu Ruoyan sighed. "I was following the disciples of the Blood Blade Sect. I heard about the gathering of the small sects, and I was worried that something like this might happen."
"But how did you know to come to this place?" Cuiyi asked.
Mu Ruoyan smiled faintly. "I have my ways."
Cuiyi didn't ask any more questions. She was just relieved that Mu Ruoyan had saved them.
As they continued to walk, they passed by more scenes of destruction and death. The small sects had unleashed their pent-up rage, and the major sects were suffering the consequences.
Cuiyi realized that the world of cultivation was not as simple as she had thought. There were hidden currents and conflicts that she had never been aware of.
She also realized that Mu Ruoyan was not just a quiet and unassuming Zhangmen Shixiong. He was a man of great power and wisdom, capable of making a difference in this turbulent world.
As they walked, Cuiyi felt a sense of hope rise in her heart. With Mu Ruoyan by their side, perhaps they could navigate through these troubled times and emerge stronger.
The journey ahead was still long and full of challenges, but with Mu Ruoyan's guidance, they would face them together.
And so, they continued on their journey, leaving behind the miserable scene and heading towards an uncertain future.
The Zhangmen of the Blood Blade Sect was indeed miserable, as were the other Zhangmen of the major sects. They had underestimated the resentment of the small sects and paid a heavy price.
The world of cultivation was changing, and the balance of power was shifting.
The future was uncertain, but one thing was clear: the era of the major sects' absolute dominance was coming to an end.
