Based on Xu Zhi's estimation, the sixth-level Wizard Emperor wouldn't be able to break through to the seventh-level epic. No matter how formidable his combat power, how skilled he was at clinging to life, or how intense his will to survive, he wouldn't last much longer.
"A sixth-level wizard will always remain a sixth-level," Xu Zhi thought. "At most, he can rule there for another day or two."
Xu Zhi pondered for a moment, then shifted his attention to the third-phase test sand table on the other side.
The saga of the Alchemy Emperor's later years in the main sand table had finally stabilized, with the emperor having regained his throne. Xu Zhi then redirected his focus to the smaller evolution sand table to address some issues and potential problems arising from the launch of the third phase of testing.
It was now the second day of the third test phase.
Xu Zhi sat on a chair by the door, still eating an apple, as usual, observed by the newly arrived novice players.
"Hahaha! We finally crawled out of the sand table ocean and finally met the legendary Creator God! He really does love fruit. Let's take a picture to remember this!"
"Hahaha, don't stop me, I'm going to lick his boots!!"
"Lick his boots 1!"
"Lick his boots 2!"
Xu Zhi took a bite of his apple, utterly speechless as he watched this new group of third-phase players. While their overall quality seemed high this time, they were just as idiotic as before.
In fact, for this internal test, Xu Zhi had secretly reserved two spots: one for Chen Xi and one for himself, to make it easier for them to meet.
"Wisdom Sub-Brain," Xu Zhi mused aloud, "check how many countries have infiltrated this third test wave, and how many spies are among them, causing trouble."
The Swarm Sub-Brain responded with a mechanical voice:
"For this third phase of the sand table test, out of fifty slots, seven are from various major countries."
Only seven slots had been allocated to these entities.
So few? Was it because there were so many experts among the general public that national research institutes couldn't secure more spots?
In reality, that wasn't the case at all.
It wasn't until a few days before the third test, when the Alchemy Emperor posted about the alarming time acceleration within the alternate world and various authentic data ratios, that countries truly grasped the profound nature of "Spore Evolution," realizing it might genuinely be an alternate world.
Only then did they begin to consider acquiring internal test slots. The true reason for the low number was simply inadequate preparation within such a short timeframe.
Furthermore, in their view, the number of slots wasn't the primary concern.
They reasoned that whether they infiltrated one person or a group, the backing still came from a single research institute. It was more efficient to concentrate all resources on one individual, with countless scientists as support, enabling that person to dominate and become the next Alchemy Emperor, ruling the alternate world.
Moreover, they believed it was crucial to proceed with caution and not infiltrate too many individuals, lest they provoke this alien technology.
Upon hearing this from the Wisdom Sub-Brain, Xu Zhi was instantly speechless. "You guys secretly infiltrate spies, and you *still* know it might anger me? That's right! When the Creator God gets angry, the consequences are severe: a great flood to destroy the world, wiping out all life..."
"...but that's all within the sand table."
Xu Zhi mused, wondering just how severe the repercussions would be if someone offended him in the real world.
He certainly couldn't fight against those rogue nations, who were already plotting colonization and territorial expansion.
He was far too weak—a first-level minor wizard, farming in the countryside, the kind who could be easily killed by a single bullet. He was entirely relying on a borrowed facade of power. His only true ability was to use the Wisdom Sub-Brain to hack into their networks and eavesdrop.
In reality, the capabilities of these seven individuals were beyond question.
Backed by countless top-tier experts performing furious calculations within massive research institutes, each of them was like an enhanced, super-powered Li Shengjiang.
Xu Zhi scratched his head, taking another bite of his apple. "To be honest," he murmured, "these seven individuals are like chosen ones, the protagonists in novels favored by the Heavenly Dao! They possess immense luck and come with overpowered abilities, like unstoppable Dragon Aotians who defeat anything in their path!"
As the Heavenly Dao and the Creator God, having seven chosen ones—legendary protagonists who could drive the development of world civilization—he should, by all accounts, have been delighted.
"But these chosen ones, these Dragon Aotians, they're all problematic!" Xu Zhi thought. "It would be easy to remove them completely, after all, the Swarm Intelligence can analyze and determine things, denying them any opportunity to infiltrate spies."
"But these seven chosen ones, these Dragon Aotians, with all that luck and power concentrated in them, I'm somewhat reluctant to kick them out entirely..." Xu Zhi felt a pang of regret. "They're definitely going to work for me. Their ambition to work themselves bald in those research institutes? I'll certainly welcome it! But I need to figure out a way to scheme against them, undermine their ambitions, and make them work for free."
This was proving to be quite a tricky situation.
Afterward, Xu Zhi made another call to Chen Xi.
Xu Zhi had previously advised her to move out of her dorm and live alone, as playing games there would be inconvenient. He also instructed her not to reveal her in-game ID or even let anyone know she was playing the game at all.
"I've logged in!"
Chen Xi was incredibly excited. "I don't even dare tell my classmates that I actually got this internal test slot! Online, they're now being resold for 500,000 each, and they're still in high demand but short supply!"
"What's your in-game ID?" Xu Zhi asked, feigning ignorance.
"My name is Xizhi – the 'Xi' from Chen Xi, and the 'Zhi' from Xu Zhi!" Chen Xi replied excitedly.
*A tin foil perm? Like a scumbag?*
Xu Zhi cleared his throat and asked, "You've already entered the sand table, right?"
"Yes, I have! I did all my homework beforehand and researched a lot of evolutionary biology. I've already crawled ashore and I'm next to a group of bent trees that are chatting amongst themselves. I'm a small red lizard."
"Okay, wait there. I'll come in and find you."
Xu Zhi glanced at the sand table.
A small red lizard...
His eyesight was already quite remarkable; with a quick scan, he located Chen Xi within minutes.
He then quietly returned to his room and logged into the game using his account, "Anyone Who Insults Me Goes into My Little Black Book."
In fact, after the Three Witches incident, having some idle time, he had evolved a deformed octopus species as a precaution, in case he needed to enter the sand table urgently again and couldn't. Now was the perfect time to log in.
In front of the bent trees, a cluster of them chattered excitedly.
"Wow! Are you really a female player?"
"Such a hardcore game has so few female players. You must be very knowledgeable! Come on, let's get acquainted and discuss evolution."
"Bro! Stop trying to hit on girls. Unlike us from the second test, the competition in the third phase is brutally fierce. Anyone who managed to make it through must be a balding female player, with half her head gone!"
Chen Xi immediately got angry. "I'm not bald!"
However, she dared not admit that she had obtained her internal test slot through back channels, by getting someone to write a paper for her.
Just then, a commotion suddenly erupted in the distance.
A throng of bizarre-looking animals and plants frantically rushed in one direction, waving to them. "Quick! Gather up! All of you who want to enter the alternate world in the next round, come sign up! The meeting has started!"
Chen Xi's eyes widened. "What's happening? Why is everyone running? Is the Creator God leaving his yard again, and now he's on the beast path? We need to run quickly to avoid a stampede!"
As a novice player, she was familiar with many of the game's rules, including the concept of the beast path.
"It's not about the beast path," a bent tree proudly declared. "This is a player gathering; we're going to secretly plan something big! Come on, let's join in, or we'll miss out on a spot later."
"Planning something big?" Chen Xi quickly said. "I remember at the beginning of the second test, there was a gathering to secretly plot against the Creator God, and everyone was wiped out... Now that the third test has started, are you having another gathering? And secretly planning something big again? Are you going to attack the Creator God again?"
"Of course not! Who would dare to go against the Creator God now? These days, there's a bunch of bootlickers who just want to evolve delicacies for the Creator God to eat..." the bent tree said. "Haven't you checked the forums? As soon as the Alchemy Emperor's post ended, another post instantly went viral! A top player claims they've found a way for all of us players to collectively cross over to the alternate world. We're heading to a meeting right now to discuss it."
Xu Zhi, controlling his octopus form, emerged and was likewise taken aback by what he heard.
He had just been preoccupied with the Alchemy Emperor's later years in the Wizard World and hadn't paid attention to the small evolution sand table for a while. And now these goofy players were secretly plotting again, having planned this for a long time?
So it seems every time an internal test restarts, you guys have to orchestrate something monumental?
During the second test, you wanted to rally and fight a giant boss, and for the third test, you want to rally and cross into an alternate world?
It keeps getting bigger and bigger! These people are absolutely insane!
