Chapter 591: Sudden Incident

Wang Changsheng and his two companions settled into the Wooden Dragon Pavilion. Wang Changsheng frequently exchanged insights on artifact refining with Chen Yilong, and both benefited greatly from their discussions.

One day, Chen Yilong and five others were enjoying tea and conversation in a stone pavilion. Although there were six of them, the discussion primarily involved Wang Changsheng and Chen Yilong.

A low, resonant horn sound emanated from Chen Yue’s person, causing her delicate eyebrows to furrow.

“Father, Mother, Senior Wang, please continue your conversation. I need to step out to handle something.”

Chen Yue stood up, apologized, and quickly departed.

Chen Yilong looked somewhat suspicious and subtly gestured to Sun Hongyu. Sun Hongyu understood, offered her apologies, and rose to leave.

Chen Yue was still young, and Chen Yilong was concerned she might be unable to handle the situation if something serious arose.

Wang Changsheng and his two companions exchanged glances. It appeared that something had happened at the Wooden Dragon Pavilion.

Not long after, Sun Hongyu and Chen Yue returned, both with solemn expressions.

Sun Hongyu’s lips moved, clearly transmitting a message to Chen Yilong.

After a brief contemplation, Chen Yilong turned to Wang Changsheng and said, “Fellow Daoist Wang, didn’t you just express a desire to experience a beast tide? Coincidentally, a small island under our Wooden Dragon Pavilion’s control has been attacked by demonic beasts. Would Fellow Daoist Wang be willing to accompany us to take a look?”

Normally, one would not air their dirty laundry, but the Wooden Dragon Pavilion had recently been in conflict with two other factions. Chen Yilong worried that the beast tide might have been orchestrated by an adversary to lure out the Wooden Dragon Pavilion’s high-level cultivators. It was simply too coincidental that an island under their jurisdiction was attacked by demonic beasts just after Wang Changsheng and his group arrived.

He feared that Wang Changsheng’s group had been bribed, intending to use the beast tide to draw away a Core Formation cultivator, then cooperate with other Core Formation cultivators to capture the Wooden Dragon Pavilion. It was hard to tell someone’s true intentions, and such incidents were not unheard of in the South Sea.

Even blood brothers could turn against each other, let alone unrelated outsiders!

“A beast tide? If Fellow Daoist Chen is willing to lead the way, we are certainly willing to go.”

Wang Changsheng had also considered this possibility and readily agreed.

Putting himself in Chen Yilong’s shoes, if three Core Formation cultivators arrived for a visit and something happened requiring a Core Formation cultivator to handle it, Wang Changsheng would also be hesitant to leave them within his clan’s territory.

“Yue’er, we will go with Fellow Daoist Wang to take a look. You stay at the Wooden Dragon Pavilion and watch over the home.”

Chen Yilong instructed, then departed with Sun Hongyu and the two others.

The five figures transformed into five streaks of various colored light, flying towards the northwest.

Three hours later, they appeared above an island shaped like a starfish.

The island-protecting formation had already been breached. A large group of sea monsters had stormed the island and were battling the disciples of the Wooden Dragon Pavilion.

Most of the sea monsters that had landed on the island were crabs and giant shrimp. They were agile, had extremely tough shells, and were mostly second-rank demonic beasts, with no third-rank ones present.

Chen Yilong snorted coldly and summoned three azure flying swords, which slashed down at the low-rank demonic beasts below.

Sun Hongyu also summoned her magical artifact, attacking the low-rank demonic beasts that had come ashore.

Wang Changsheng and his two companions did not make a move. As long as Chen Yilong didn't speak, they naturally wouldn't offer help.

There were hundreds of low-rank demonic beasts that had rushed onto the island. The island was home to hundreds of golden spirit fruit trees, each laden with dozens of glistening golden spirit fruits.

There were over forty disciples guarding the island for the Wooden Dragon Pavilion, including ten Foundation Establishment cultivators. The highest cultivated among them was an old man with a grizzled beard and a green robe, who was at the seventh level of Foundation Establishment.

“Liu Feng, what happened? Why did a beast tide suddenly erupt?”

Chen Yilong asked with a grim face. This island possessed a high-grade second-rank spirit vein and hundreds of spiritual apricot trees. The spirit fruits were almost ripe and could be sold for a significant amount of spirit stones, making it one of the Wooden Dragon Pavilion’s more important economic sources.

“Replying to Master Chen, this disciple is also unsure. Half a day ago, these demonic beasts attacked the island-protecting formation as if they had gone mad. The formation simply couldn’t withstand their assault.”

A sharp, piercing sound suddenly erupted from Sun Hongyu’s person. Her beautiful face changed drastically, and she quickly took out a palm-sized circular jade plate with a strange bird pattern on it.

She cast a spell onto it, and Chen Yue’s urgent voice suddenly rang out: “This is bad, Mother! Enemy attack! They’re feigning an attack from the east to strike in the west! Hurry back to reinforce! I can’t stop them! Four Core Formation cultivators are besieging the Wooden Dragon Pavilion!”

Judging by Chen Yue’s urgent tone, there seemed to be a significant number of enemies.

“Yue’er, hold on. We’ll be right back. If you truly can’t, then abandon the island and flee. Your life is the most important thing; wealth is merely an external possession.”

Sun Hongyu cautioned, her expression grave. Chen Yue was her only daughter, and she naturally didn’t want anything to happen to her.

Chen Yilong immediately understood that the enemy was using a feint. Perhaps there were also ambushes in this sea area, but they didn’t dare to act once they discovered the large number of Core Formation cultivators.

“Fellow Daoist Wang, please lend us your assistance. If Chen can overcome this difficulty, there will be a substantial reward.”

Chen Yilong sought help from Wang Changsheng’s group. If Wang Changsheng’s group had malicious intentions, they would have already allied with the enemy to eliminate them.

Wang Changsheng looked at Wang Huashan, inquiring about his stance.

Even a force with three Core Formation cultivators at its helm was being attacked, which clearly showed how chaotic the South Sea cultivation world was.

Wang Changsheng still hoped to use Chen Yilong’s connections to establish himself in the South Sea. He didn’t mind helping Chen Yilong, but of course, if the enemy was too strong, he wouldn’t fight to the death and would simply leave.

Wang Huashan was different from Wang Changsheng and his wife. Wang Changsheng and his wife intended to settle in the South Sea, while Wang Huashan merely wanted to acquire some wealth.

“Fellow Daoist Chen is a friend of Fellow Daoist Wang. This favor, I will grant.”

Wang Huashan pondered for a moment before agreeing.

He thought similarly to Wang Changsheng: if the enemy was too strong, they would simply slip away.

“Fellow Daoist Wang, I trouble you and Madame Wang to remain here and hold the fort. I’m concerned there might be enemies hidden in the dark. Fellow Daoist Wang and I will rush back to provide support.”

The spirit fruits were about to ripen, and Chen Yilong did not want them to be snatched by the enemy. Furthermore, he was still wary of Wang Changsheng’s group.

Wang Changsheng looked at Wang Ruyan, who nodded.

Fostering a good relationship with Chen Yilong would help them gain a foothold in the South Sea.

“My two fellow Daoists, I trouble you. If there’s a strong enemy attack, you can certainly abandon the island and flee. Many thanks.”

Chen Yilong said gratefully, then he, Sun Hongyu, and Wang Changsheng flew back along the path they came.

A pale blue light barrier enveloped the entire main headquarters of the Wooden Dragon Pavilion. Three male and one female Core Formation cultivators were wielding their magical artifacts, attacking the blue light barrier.

The most cultivated among them was a slender middle-aged man at the fourth level of Core Formation. He held a green mirror in his hand, continuously spewing green flames that struck the blue light barrier.

Chen Yue held a palm-sized blue formation plate in her hand, continuously infusing spiritual power into it.

She had not been in the Core Formation realm for long. Facing the attacks of four Core Formation cultivators, even with a defensive formation, she could not sustain it for very long.

“Let’s finish this quickly; don’t drag it out too long.”

The middle-aged man said in a deep voice. The green bronze mirror in his hand glowed intensely, emitting a thick green light beam that struck the blue light barrier.

The blue light barrier hissed and hissed, emitting a wisp of green smoke.

At the same time, the others intensified their attacks.

The Wooden Dragon Pavilion had been established for over seven hundred years, so its sect-protecting formation was naturally not so easily broken.

Loud rumbling sounds continued as various spells struck the blue light barrier, causing it to deform. Chen Yue watched, her heart filled with anxiety.

Her spiritual power continuously poured into the formation plate, and with a massive loss of spiritual power, her face slowly grew pale.

“How dare you! Do you think our Wooden Dragon Pavilion is easily bullied?”

A voice filled with anger suddenly echoed from high in the sky.

Not long after, three streaks of light appeared on the horizon, rapidly flying towards the Wooden Dragon Pavilion.

“Oh no, Chen Yilong is back. Retreat quickly!”

The middle-aged man’s face slightly changed. Without another word, he put away his magical artifact and flew into the distance. The other three also put away their magical artifacts and flew high into the sky.

Chen Yilong and his wife did not try to stop them. Wang Changsheng was utterly bewildered.

The enemies just ran away? He had expected a fierce battle!

“They are rogue cultivators hired by others. As long as you can afford the price, they will work for you, but they won’t fight to the death. They will flee at the slightest sign of trouble.”

Chen Yilong seemed to notice Wang Changsheng’s confusion and explained.
