Chapter 507: The Lustful Twin-Eyed Rat

Wang Qingshan had spent several years in Tianquan Mountain in the State of Wu. He once mentioned to Wang Changsheng a second-tier array master named Wang Lin, who specialized in refining array flags and arrays. Wang Qingshan had bought many arrays from Wang Lin and even drew a portrait of him. Wang Changsheng then gave this portrait to Wang Mingjiang, instructing him to purchase arrays from Wang Lin for hunting demonic beasts.

According to Mo Caiyun's statement, Wang Lin had been missing for a long time. Wang Changsheng had assumed Wang Lin was gone, so he was surprised to encounter him here.

What puzzled Wang Changsheng was that, according to Wang Qingshan, Wang Lin was a Foundation Establishment cultivator. How had he become a Core Formation cultivator? Two Core Formation cultivators were pursuing Wang Lin, and from Wang Lin's tone, it seemed he had encountered an old enemy.

Wang Changsheng shook his head, deciding that whoever was pursuing Wang Lin had nothing to do with him.

He transformed into a streak of blue light and shot through the air with extreme speed.

In the Northern Frontier lay the Fire Phoenix Mountain Range, named for its mountains resembling a phoenix soaring with outstretched wings.

The Fire Phoenix Mountain Range was originally the sect's base for the Golden Flame Sect, a medium-sized sect. However, internal strife within the Nine Nether Sect, a major power in the Northern Frontier, disrupted the region's balance. Various major forces attacked each other, leading to the unexpected deaths of the Golden Flame Sect's sect master and several elders. The deputy sect master then led all disciples to merge with the Taiyi Immortal Sect, and this location now served as a branch of the Taiyi Immortal Sect.

Inside a certain red pavilion, Wang Mingren held a book, examining it carefully.

He had just been transferred to the Northern Frontier and knew nothing about the local situation. He was currently reviewing the scriptures collected by the sect to understand the cultivation forces in the region.

The Northern Frontier was home to numerous volcanoes, and most cultivators there practiced fire-attribute techniques. The region was a complex mix of many different forces, with five particularly strong sects; the Nine Nether Sect was among the top five.

Thousands of years ago, the Nine Nether Sect produced a Soul Transformation cultivator, Venerable Youming. This individual swept across the Northern Frontier unopposed, nearly unifying the region. Although the Nine Nether Sect did not achieve complete unification, it solidified its prominent position in the Northern Frontier.

The Nine Nether Sect controlled vast mineral resources and boasted numerous experts, possessing profound foundations. Shangguan Wei and Ye Yundong were prominent candidates for the next sect master. According to reliable intelligence, Ye Yundong, under the guise of hosting a banquet, ambushed Shangguan Wei. However, Shangguan Wei retaliated and killed him. Ye Yundong and his close associates died on the spot, while Ye Yundong's younger son, Ye Lin, went missing.

Reliable sources indicated that Ye Lin was not only a Core Formation cultivator but also a high-grade third-tier array master and a key talent being cultivated by the Nine Nether Sect. Shangguan Wei offered a reward of two million spirit stones for Ye Lin's capture. Those who withheld information would be punished as accomplices, and any individuals or forces providing aid to Ye Lin would be considered mortal enemies of the Nine Nether Sect, to be executed without mercy.

After Shangguan Wei ascended to the position of Nine Nether Sect Master, she purged a number of disciples and repelled sieges from multiple sects, firmly securing her leadership.

A sound transmission paper crane flew in. Wang Mingren struck it with a magic incantation, and a woman's voice suddenly rang out: "Nephew Wang, come to the Fire Phoenix Hall. There's a task for you."

Wang Mingren recognized it as Leng Rumei's voice.

He put away the jade slip, walked out quickly, and summoned his flying magical artifact, soaring into the sky.

The Hundred Insects Mountain Range, located at the border between the States of Wu and Zhao, was named for its abundance of various demonic insects.

A streak of blue light flew from afar, stopping mid-air. It was Wang Changsheng.

He flicked his wrist, and a yellow light flew out from his spirit beast pearl. It was the Twin-Pupil Rat.

It had consumed a mid-grade third-tier earth-attribute demonic core and had been dormant for several years, only now waking up. It was still a high-grade second-tier demonic beast.

Evidently, advancing to the third tier was not so easy.

The Twin-Pupil Rat squeaked incessantly. Wang Changsheng knew it was hungry and wanted to eat; all the century-old spirit herbs he carried had been eaten by the rat.

"There must be spirit herbs here. Go find them yourself! Eat as much as you find."

Wang Changsheng formed a hand seal and slowly descended.

The Twin-Pupil Rat jumped off Wang Changsheng's shoulder and, waddling its plump body, quickly scurried into the dense forest. Wang Changsheng followed close behind.

About a quarter of an hour later, the Twin-Pupil Rat appeared in a verdant bamboo forest. As it passed near some weeds, a black shadow shot out like lightning, lunging to bite it.

The Twin-Pupil Rat reacted quickly. Almost simultaneously with the shadow's appearance, a yellow light flared around its body, forming a thick yellow armor. It pushed off with its legs, leaping into the air, causing the black shadow to miss its target.

After landing, the Twin-Pupil Rat curled into a ball, transforming into a yellow sphere, and quickly rolled back to Wang Changsheng.

It shook off some dirt, quickly climbed onto Wang Changsheng's shoulder, its small eyes darting around. It chirped, pointing its right paw towards the weeds, seemingly complaining to Wang Changsheng.

The creature that attacked the Twin-Pupil Rat was a mid-grade second-tier yellow python, nothing to be concerned about.

Wang Changsheng flicked his finger, and a yellow light shot out, instantly piercing the yellow python's head.

He released his Soul-Devouring Golden Cicada, which devoured the yellow python's essence soul.

He skinned the yellow python, cut its body into several large pieces, and gave two large chunks of python meat to the Twin-Pupil Rat.

The Twin-Pupil Rat quickly devoured the two large chunks of python meat. Its body was bloated, but it still seemed unsatisfied and begged Wang Changsheng for more.

"Such a small body, yet so gluttonous," Wang Changsheng chuckled.

Wang Changsheng smiled, patted its head, and took out another piece of python meat.

Just as the Twin-Pupil Rat was about to eat, its nose twitched a few times. It seemed to have caught a scent, becoming excited, and scurried towards a nearby clump of weeds.

A smaller yellow demonic rat burst out from the weeds. After its body glowed yellow, it burrowed into the ground, with the Twin-Pupil Rat following suit.

Wang Changsheng was amused and exasperated. Now that it was full, the Twin-Pupil Rat had clearly smelled a female demonic rat, which was why it was so agitated.

Speaking of which, the Twin-Pupil Rat had quite a few mates already, as many as eight at Qinglian Mountain Villa. Yet, this fellow was still not satisfied; encountering a female demonic rat in the wild, it immediately pounced.

He chuckled and quickly followed.

The Twin-Pupil Rat's burrowing speed was fast, but the female demonic rat's speed was not slow either.

A quarter of an hour later, Wang Changsheng arrived before a steep stone wall. After a yellow light emanated from his body, he burrowed into the wall.

Shortly after, he emerged in a sealed stone cave. The female demonic rat burrowed out from underground, chirping and glowing with yellow light as it tried to burrow into the stone wall ahead.

With a muffled thud, the female demonic rat was unable to penetrate the stone wall and collided with it, dizzying itself.

The Twin-Pupil Rat emerged from underground. It pushed off with its legs, leaped, and pinned the female demonic rat to the ground. They wrestled for a short while, and then the female demonic rat seemed to surrender, mating with the Twin-Pupil Rat.

Wang Changsheng ignored the Twin-Pupil Rat, his gaze fixed on the stone wall.

Since even earth-burrowing techniques were ineffective, it was highly likely to be some kind of metal ore.

He raised a hand, and the Nine-Twist Divine Sands flew out, transforming into a giant yellow sword. It struck the stone wall with a muffled clang, and a faint yellow light curtain materialized.

"An ancient cultivator's dwelling?"

Wang Changsheng's pupils constricted, and he gasped, his expression turning excited.
