Wang Changsheng went to the Myriad Spirits Sect to find Gongsun Yang and Liu Yilong, hoping for their help. Unfortunately, they were both away, and Song Yunlong was in secluded cultivation, leaving Wang Changsheng to undertake the journey alone.
In the past, Wang Changsheng hadn't fully appreciated Wang Tunian's presence, but now, with Wang Tunian not by his side, he truly understood his importance.
He rushed at top speed to the location where Lan Fuku had discovered the Azure Python. Using that spot as a central point, he meticulously searched the area but did not find any trace of the Azure Python.
Wang Changsheng was unable to refine a treasure similar to the Dragon-Fixing Plate; otherwise, he wouldn't have to go through so much trouble.
A deafening roar, faintly mixed with the sound of a dragon's cry, reached his ears.
Startled, Wang Changsheng's body radiated blue light, and he transformed into a streaking blue light, flying towards the source of the sound.
Soon after, he appeared above a towering mountain peak. The mountainside had exploded, and a large amount of rubble was tumbling down.
Wang Mengli stood at the foot of the mountain, a wide smile on her lips. At her feet lay a giant yellow rat with a gaping bloody hole in its head, bleeding profusely and completely lifeless.
"Master, a top-grade Sixth-rank treasure-seeking rat! The boss will definitely like this one."
Wang Mengli smiled faintly. Currently at the mid-Void Refinement stage, her divine abilities were even stronger in human form, allowing her to swiftly slay the top-grade Sixth-rank treasure-seeking rat.
The "boss" she referred to was Wang Tunian; devouring high-rank demonic rats would provide some benefit to his advancement.
Wang Changsheng nodded and put away the treasure-seeking rat's corpse. He had expected Wang Mengli to have found the Azure Python, not a top-grade Sixth-rank treasure-seeking rat.
Wang Mengli's swift dispatch of the top-grade Sixth-rank treasure-seeking rat truly showed her worth as a true spirit descendant.
Another deafening boom erupted, and a striking crimson light shot dramatically into the sky.
Wang Changsheng immediately flew towards the crimson light, with Wang Lin and Wang Meng quickly following him.
The scene was a small valley enclosed by mountains on three sides, with several enormous, flaming pits scarring the ground. Wang Chan stood nearby, observing a huge red leopard lying motionless; though its body bore no visible injuries, it was lifeless, its soul having been devoured by Wang Chan.
At the far end of the valley was a massive cave entrance, its interior shrouded in darkness.
Wang Changsheng felt a tinge of disappointment; it was yet another discovery of a different demonic beast.
Wang Changsheng put away the red leopard's corpse. Wang Chan then entered the cave, where he discovered over ten stalks of Lihuo Grass, ranging in age from more than 8,000 to 20,000 years. He collected all of them before leaving.
"It seems I'll need to try a different approach," he murmured, "otherwise, there's no telling how long this will take."
Wang Changsheng muttered to himself, then flicked his sleeve, releasing tens of thousands of Vajra Worms. These were clearly puppet beasts, completely devoid of life.
"Go," Wang Changsheng commanded.
With a soft command from Wang Changsheng, tens of thousands of Vajra Worms dispersed in all directions, searching for the Azure Python.
His divine sense was attached to the Vajra Worms, which saved time and effort, though the drawback was the significant consumption of divine sense.
Wang Changsheng then summoned the Azure Phoenix Boat, carrying Wang Lin and the two others as they flew slowly into the distance.
Wang Changsheng felt no distress when some of the Vajra Worm puppets were destroyed by high-rank demonic beasts, as these low-grade puppets were merely consumables and a type of treasure-hunting tool.
Three months passed, and Wang Changsheng still hadn't found the Azure Python. He did not give up, however, and continued his search.
In a red bamboo forest, Wang Changsheng stood in an open area, his brows deeply furrowed. Not only had he failed to find the Azure Python, but tens of thousands of his low-grade Vajra Worm puppet beasts had been destroyed. Continuing the search felt like looking for a needle in a haystack.
A deafening roar reverberated from high above, causing the ground to tremble slightly. Wang Changsheng looked up, extending his divine sense to its fullest.
A golden light appeared high in the sky, moving with extraordinary speed.
Soon, Wang Changsheng clearly discerned the golden light's true form: a completely golden crow with emerald green eyes. Standing on its back was Gongsun Yang, his face slightly pale and his eyes wide with terror.
"Oh, Fellow Daoist Gongsun!"
Wang Changsheng uttered a light exclamation, realizing that Gongsun Yang had come to the Barren Lands to hunt demonic beasts.
After many years, Gongsun Yang had already reached the mid-Integration stage. As someone with a spiritual body and hailing from the Myriad Spirits Sect, he never had to worry about resources, allowing his cultivation speed to be relatively fast.
Even after advancing to the Integration stage, the Myriad Spirits Sect could still provide him with cultivation resources. However, to progress to the Mahayana stage, Gongsun Yang would have to rely on himself, as the sect's assistance would be limited.
The ground shook violently as a giant, three to four hundred zhang tall, strode towards Gongsun Yang. The giant's body was covered in mysterious yellow spiritual patterns, its features were grotesquely ugly, and its eyes were distinctly yellow.
"An Ancient Giant!"
Wang Changsheng exclaimed in surprise. The last time he had come to the Barren Lands with Liu Qingfeng to seek treasure, he had encountered a late-Integration stage Ancient Giant; this one, however, was at the mid-Integration stage.
Given that Gongsun Yang was attempting to flee, this Ancient Giant clearly possessed formidable divine abilities.
"Fellow Daoist Wang!"
Gongsun Yang also spotted Wang Changsheng, feeling both surprise and delight.
"Fellow Daoist Gongsun, be careful!"
No sooner had he spoken than two beams of yellow light shot from the Ancient Giant's eyes, heading straight for Gongsun Yang.
The Emerald-Eyed Golden Crow beneath Gongsun Yang lightly flapped its wings, accelerating its flight and dodging the two yellow beams. The beams struck two bamboo stalks, which instantly petrified before their eyes.
A sound like a tsunami erupted as countless blue waters surged from the void, submerging an area spanning hundreds of li.
The blue water churned violently, creating a colossal wave that shook and distorted the void. The massive wave, like a colossal, misty blue hand, surged with billions of jun of force, slamming down upon the Ancient Giant.
Even before the colossal hand struck the Ancient Giant, the void vibrated and twisted, forming thick, long cracks, as if the entire space was on the verge of collapse.
The Ancient Giant's arms glowed with blinding yellow light as he met the attack.
After a series of thunderous roars, the Ancient Giant was sent flying backward. His massive body crashed heavily onto the ground, toppling dozens of mountain peaks, crushing countless bamboo trees, and filling the air with dust and smoke.
The Ancient Giant spat out a mouthful of blood, his eyes now filled with apprehension.
A green escape light shot through the air, moving at an incredible speed, and vanished into the horizon in just a few flashes.
Seven days later, in a small valley enclosed by mountains on three sides, the Azure Phoenix Boat descended from the sky and landed.
"Fellow Daoist Wang, thank you," Gongsun Yang said. "If it weren't for you this time, I likely would have been in grave danger."
He had never imagined that Wang Changsheng would have reached the mid-Integration stage. However, remembering Wang Changsheng's achievements in the racial war, he felt reassured, attributing it perhaps to the many spirit elixirs that had enhanced Wang Changsheng's cultivation.
"It was merely a small effort," Wang Changsheng replied with a smile. "I went to the Myriad Spirits Sect looking for you, and your disciple reported that you were out. I never expected to run into you here."
"You came to the Myriad Spirits Sect for me? Did something happen to your spirit beast?" Gongsun Yang asked, puzzled. Wang Changsheng was a Seventh-rank artifact master with the backing of Zhenhai Palace, so it was unlikely he would seek him out for ordinary matters. After much thought, Gongsun Yang concluded that something must have happened to Wang Changsheng's spirit beast.
