Chapter 2113: Encountering an Ambush

A hidden underground cavern periodically echoed with immense roars, causing the ground to shake violently.

The cavern was vast, stretching for thousands of meters. Its ceiling was densely covered in blue stalactites, and the uneven rock walls faintly reflected a greenish light, hinting at the presence of a unique mineral.

A yellow giant ape, over ten zhang tall, was ferociously attacking a Qilin Turtle. The ape was covered in yellow mane, had a wide mouth filled with fangs, and golden eyes.

Wang Changsheng stood nearby, showing no intention of intervening.

High above, a mass of blue thunderclouds hovered. Thick blue lightning spears struck down, hitting the yellow giant ape, which immediately let out a series of pained screams as large amounts of its fur were burned off.

The yellow giant ape let out an angry roar and spewed a hazy yellow sonic wave. However, before it could reach within a hundred zhang of the Qilin Turtle, it was dispersed by blue lightning projected by the turtle.

The Qilin Turtle emitted a low roar, and thousands of blue lightning spears poured down, engulfing the yellow giant ape.

Soon after, the blue lightning dissipated, revealing a huge crater on the ground, with some charred remains visible within it.

"It seems your divine abilities have significantly improved since advancing to the fifth rank."

Wang Changsheng showed a look of approval. The Qilin Turtle seemed to understand his words, letting out a low roar, its body constantly crackling with arcs of electricity, as if seeking praise from Wang Changsheng.

Wang Changsheng seemed to sense something, and with a flick of his wrist, a golden light shot out. It was the Gold Devouring Ant Queen, whose aura had grown much stronger, having already reached the fifth-rank low grade.

"You certainly know how to pick a time to awaken," Wang Changsheng chuckled softly.

It had been dormant for many years. In those years, it had consumed a considerable amount of artifact refining materials, including the demon core of a fifth-rank Gold Devouring Ant. Upon this awakening, it had advanced to the fifth rank. However, its divine abilities were not as powerful as the Qilin Turtle's, which was unavoidable.

Its progress to this point was already remarkable; without having devoured large quantities of artifact refining materials, it would have struggled even to reach the fourth rank. Advancing ranks is generally difficult for spirit insects, as seen with both the Soul Devouring Golden Cicada and the Gold Devouring Ant Queen.

Relatively speaking, the Qilin Turtle advanced the fastest, a testament to its powerful bloodline.

It flew to the rock wall and began gnawing on the mineral.

The Gold Devouring Ant Queen sprayed a golden mist onto the rock wall, which immediately began to emit wisps of green smoke and showed signs of softening.

Soon, it bit off a millstone-sized piece of greenish mineral, grabbed it, and flew back to Wang Changsheng.

"Azure Adamantite, a fifth-rank artifact refining material."

Wang Changsheng shook his head, instantly losing interest.

According to Liu Che, there should have been some Purple Silver Flowers here. However, by the time he arrived, the cavern had already been occupied by a group of demon insects. The Mysterious Spirit Grotto-Heaven opened only once every three thousand years, so it was natural for changes to occur over such a long period. The original spirit herbs and fruit trees couldn't possibly remain unless protected by special enchantments.

Wang Changsheng put away the Gold Devouring Ant Queen and left the place with the Qilin Turtle.

Outside the underground cavern lay a narrow valley, beyond which stretched a dense red forest, its thick foliage blocking out much of the sunlight.

Wang Changsheng walked out of the underground cavern and proceeded towards the red forest at a leisurely pace, with the Qilin Turtle accompanying him.

After exiting the valley, Wang Changsheng's right fist suddenly glowed with a dazzling blue light, striking down towards a specific spot on the ground.

Countless blue water vapors emerged, swiftly transforming into a colossal blue fist hundreds of meters in size, which descended upon the ground with the force of a stampeding cavalry.

A deafening roar!

With a tremendous crash, a massive crater formed in the ground, dust billowed, and a powerful shockwave scattered a large amount of debris.

The Qilin Turtle let out a low roar and spat out several thick blue lightning bolts, striking two towering trees over three hundred meters tall.

After two loud thuds, the two colossal trees snapped in half and burst into flames.

A pot-bellied man in a yellow shirt and a beautiful young woman in a red dress appeared. Their attire indicated they were disciples of the Myriad Spirit Sect, and both wore spirit beast bracelets on their wrists.

Both were at the mid-stage of the Spirit Transformation realm and specialized in controlling insects and beasts.

With a thunderous rumble, the ground suddenly shook violently, then instantly cracked into pieces, transforming the soil into sand. Numerous towering trees toppled and were swallowed by a gigantic sand pit.

Yellow sand swirled through the air, and thick dust rolled everywhere.

An extremely peculiar hiss echoed, and Wang Changsheng felt his head grow heavy.

A soul attack!

A foul wind swept past, and a giant, entirely purple scorpion suddenly appeared above Wang Changsheng's head.

Its tail stinger was golden, its pincers glowed with purple light, and it bore a pair of large, golden translucent wings on its back.

It was a Golden-Winged Soul Devouring Scorpion, whose innate divine ability was soul attack, ranked one hundred seventy-fifth on the Myriad Insects List.

As soon as the Golden-Winged Soul Devouring Scorpion appeared, it sprayed a purple mist that enveloped Wang Changsheng, while its tail stinger abruptly struck towards him.

Wang Changsheng's chest was pierced by the Golden-Winged Soul Devouring Scorpion's stinger. His body then lit up with a dazzling green light and transformed into a hazy green talisman.

With a muffled whoosh, the green talisman spontaneously combusted, leaving no trace behind.

"Oh no, it's a Prime Spirit Talisman!"

The yellow-shirted young man exclaimed in alarm. They had been drawn by the sounds of battle, intending to ambush him and seize his treasures, but they had been deceived by their opponent.

The Prime Spirit Talisman was a fifth-rank talisman primarily used to deceive enemies, and they had indeed been fooled by it.

A tremendous thunderclap echoed from high above. A blue thundercloud, several kilometers wide, appeared in the sky, with lightning snakes writhing within it and continuous rumbling.

As thick blue lightning bolts struck down, the Qilin Turtle opened its mouth and spat out hundreds of golden-blue thunderballs, which hurtled towards the Golden-Winged Soul Devouring Scorpion.

The Golden-Winged Soul Devouring Scorpion naturally dared not face them head-on and was about to dodge.

A deafening male shout rang out. Upon hearing it, the Golden-Winged Soul Devouring Scorpion's speed faltered, and it was struck by hundreds of two-colored thunderballs, letting out a series of piercing screams.

The yellow-shirted young man reacted quickly. Upon realizing the enemy was merely a Prime Spirit Talisman, he immediately conjured a gleaming yellow parasol, holding it above his head. The small yellow parasol spun rapidly, releasing a large expanse of yellow mist that enveloped both him and the young woman.

The young woman in the red dress released a black and red phoenix. Its wings, when spread, spanned over three hundred meters, its claws were golden, and it had a black fleshy crest on its head.

It was a fifth-rank low-grade Black Phoenix, a sub-species of the Fire Phoenix.

As soon as the Black Phoenix appeared, it let out a sharp, piercing cry. As it flapped its wings, specks of black flame suddenly emerged in the nearby void, transforming into black fireballs that flew to meet the attack.

The black fireballs collided with the blue lightning, annihilating each other. Black and blue spiritual lights intertwined, and powerful shockwaves uprooted towering trees, turning them directly into dust.

A tremendous roar came from high above as a giant thunderball, three hundred meters in diameter, flew out, aggressively smashing towards the young woman in the red dress and the man.

The Black Phoenix showed no fear, spewing a thick stream of black flames to meet it.

The yellow-shirted young man flicked his sleeve, and a green light shot out, transforming into an enormous green spirit flower bud. The green spirit flower swayed gently, releasing a shimmering expanse of green light that protected them.
