Chapter 15: Extinguishing Zombies

Just then, a large number of clan members rushed over. They held torches in their left hands and clutched a handful of sticky rice in their right hands, their faces all showing a tense expression.

Wang Changsheng raised an eyebrow and ordered, "Immediately send people to check the situation. Only sound the gong if a zombie genuinely appears."

Wang Qingshan agreed and immediately issued the instructions. Several clan members took the order and left.

Fifteen minutes later, the clan members sent to investigate returned.

The result left Wang Changsheng dumbfounded. It turned out that a clan member named Wang Yousheng had woken up needing to relieve himself. As he came out to urinate, a strong gust of wind blew a piece of clothing onto him. In a panic, he immediately screamed, causing a chain reaction.

Wang Qingshan's expression was a bit awkward. After all that, it was just a false alarm.

"Alright, alright, everyone go back to rest!" Wang Changsheng ordered solemnly. "Send one clan member to guard Wang Yousheng's home, and give the gong to someone else for safekeeping. Next time, only sound the gong if you actually see a zombie; don't strike it easily."

"Did everyone hear what Uncle Nine said? Without seeing a zombie, no one is allowed to randomly strike the gong. Everyone go back and rest!" Wang Qingshan dismissed the clan members, who then returned to their respective homes.

Wang Changsheng returned to his room and sat in meditation to recover his energy.

Not long after, Qingshi Town regained its tranquility.

Around 3 AM, in the dead of night, most people had fallen into a deep sleep.

Wang Qiumao could not resist sleepiness and slowly closed his eyes, falling into a deep slumber.

In a certain courtyard, Wang Yousheng rushed out of his room, clutching his abdomen with both hands, and hurried towards the latrine.

The latrine was not far from the courtyard gate. The gate seemed not to have been properly latched, and a gust of cold wind blew it open.

"Damn it, how unlucky!" Wang Yousheng complained. "First I accidentally struck the gong, and now I have a stomachache. Did I step in dog poop yesterday or something!"

Because he had accidentally struck the gong, his uncles had severely reprimanded him, and his peers had ridiculed him for being a coward, which truly irritated him.

Just then, someone knocked on the latrine door.

"Youyi, I'm inside. Wait a moment," Wang Yousheng said impatiently.

"Bang!"

The door was smashed to pieces, and a figure lunged at Wang Yousheng.

Wang Yousheng didn't even have time to react before his shoulders were gripped tightly by the assailant. Immediately after, a sharp pain shot through his neck.

He let out a bloodcurdling scream, trying to push the attacker away, but it was useless.

Not long after, Wang Yousheng lost consciousness.

The figure released Wang Yousheng, revealing a pair of sharp fangs. It was Wang Qingyan, who had turned into a zombie.

It turned around and hopped towards the house.

Not long after, a scream came from inside the house.

Wang Changsheng sat cross-legged on a straw mat, his eyes slightly closed.

A series of crisp bell sounds suddenly came from outside.

Wang Changsheng had tied some red ropes near his house, each with several bells attached. Anyone approaching the house would trigger the ropes.

A strange cry rang out, the door was knocked open, and a zombie rushed in. It was Wang Qingyan.

When the bells rang, Wang Changsheng had already opened his eyes.

"Roar!"

The zombie let out a low growl, rushing straight towards Wang Changsheng with an unbearable stench.

Wang Changsheng's expression changed slightly. He grabbed a handful of sticky rice from a pouch tied to his body and scattered it towards the zombie.

The sticky rice struck the zombie, causing a puff of green smoke to rise immediately, and the zombie let out a miserable shriek.

The zombie roared loudly, its claws reaching for Wang Changsheng.

At this moment, Wang Qiumao was also startled awake. Upon seeing the zombie, his face turned exceptionally pale.

Wang Changsheng raised both hands, and two crystal-clear ice cones, about a foot long, shot out.

The two ice cones struck the zombie but failed to penetrate its body, shattering into a large scatter of ice fragments.

Wang Changsheng was somewhat surprised. This zombie's body could actually withstand a basic-tier mid-level spell. He wondered if a spirit tool could harm it.

His gaze shifted. He summoned a blue orb the size of an egg and cast a spell on it.

After the blue orb spun, a large amount of blue light appeared out of thin air, forming a blue water wall in front of him, taller than a person and about two feet thick.

Without hesitation, the zombie plunged directly into the blue water wall.

The moment it plunged into the blue water wall, Wang Changsheng flicked his fingers repeatedly. Five streaks of white light flew from his hand, instantly disappearing into the blue water wall.

With a sizzling sound, the blue water wall solidified into ice, turning into a white ice wall taller than a person and emitting wisps of white mist.

The zombie was frozen solid, turning into a massive ice sculpture.

Wang Changsheng flicked his fingers repeatedly, casting several spells into the blue orb. A large number of blue light dots appeared, forming a massive water sphere that enveloped the ice sculpture.

Wang Changsheng flicked his fingers repeatedly, and streaks of white light shot out, instantly disappearing into the water sphere. The water sphere quickly froze, turning into an even larger block of ice.

"Quickly leave here. I'm going to set this house on fire," Wang Changsheng ordered.

He had no fire talismans on him, nor could he cast fire spells. His only option was to freeze the zombie, then burn down the house to destroy it with fire.

He had planned this long ago.

All valuables in the house had already been moved out. Several water vats filled with water were prepared in the courtyard to prevent the fire from spreading.

Wang Qiumao, his wives, and children hurriedly rushed out of the house.

Wang Changsheng took out a tinder stick, ignited the bedding, and retreated outside.

Not long after, the fire intensified, its flames soaring into the sky.

The ice melted in the raging inferno, and the zombie broke free. A large wave of fire immediately engulfed its form.

A horrific roar rang out, and the zombie frantically ran outwards.

"Earth Wall Spell!" Wang Changsheng let out a low cry. A blinding yellow light emanated from his hands, which he pressed onto the ground.

The yellow light instantly disappeared into the ground. Two yellow earth walls, over two *zhang* high and two *chi* thick, rose from the earth, blocking the zombie's path.

Enveloped by the raging flames, the zombie was burned to ashes.

When Wang Qingshan and Wang Qiusheng arrived after hearing the news, the entire house had been burned down. However, because protective measures had been taken beforehand, the fire had not spread.

When Wang Changsheng felt it was sufficient, he cast the "Condense Water into Rain" spell, extinguishing the flames.

"Qingshan, send someone to check if any clan members were harmed. If there are victims, burn their bodies immediately."

"Yes, Uncle Nine. I'll issue the orders right away," Wang Qingshan nodded in agreement.

Less than half an hour later, the report came back: two clan members had been killed. One of them was Wang Yousheng, who died in the latrine. Both bodies were burned immediately.

By this time, dawn was approaching. Wang Changsheng gave a few instructions, then returned to the room Wang Qingshan had arranged for him to sit in meditation and regulate his breath.

Speaking of which, if he had ten or eight fire orb talismans, he probably could have eliminated this zombie in a single encounter. Unfortunately, he was too poor.

What Wang Changsheng found strange was that he had sent a message to the clan via carrier pigeon that morning, but by nightfall, the clan still hadn't sent anyone over. Had they not received his message?

Wang Changsheng thought for a while, but couldn't figure out the reason. He simply stopped thinking about it and closed his eyes to rest.
