On Green Lotus Island, in the Five Dragons Sea.
A towering peak soared into the clouds. At its summit stood a vast azure estate, within which a small courtyard was filled with numerous green spiritual bamboo. A gentle breeze rustled through them, creating a soft ‘swishing’ sound.
Wang Qingshan and Fairy Cailian were chatting in a stone pavilion, laughing and talking cheerfully.
Over thirty years ago, Fairy Cailian had accompanied Wang Qingshan to the South Sea. Wang Qingshan had traveled with her throughout the region, eventually arriving at Green Lotus Island.
Fairy Cailian had initially hoped to meet the Green Lotus Immortals. However, Wang Ruyan was in seclusion, and Wang Changsheng’s whereabouts were unknown. Thus, Fairy Cailian’s wish remained unfulfilled.
If Wang Changsheng’s soul lamp hadn’t still been burning, Wang Qingshan would have already gone to the Buried Immortal Sea to search for him.
“Fellow Daoist Wang,” Fairy Cailian said politely, “I have inconvenienced you for many years. It is time for me to depart. It seems I am not destined to meet the Green Lotus Immortals. Should you visit the Northern Frontier cultivation world in the future, please seek me out at Sky Moon Valley. I will be sure to extend a warm welcome.”
Her primary purpose in visiting the South Sea was to meet the Green Lotus Immortals. Unable to do so, she no longer wished to remain on Green Lotus Island.
Wang Qingshan hesitated, as if about to speak but then holding back. After a moment’s hesitation, he nodded and said, “Very well. If the opportunity arises in the future, I will certainly pay you a visit.”
He had strongly considered asking Fairy Cailian to use her divinatory powers to ascertain if Wang Changsheng was still alive, but ultimately decided against it.
Firstly, Fairy Cailian’s relationship with the Wang family was not deep enough for her to necessarily agree. Secondly, Wang Changsheng’s life or death was a family secret; even if something had happened to him, it could not be announced to outsiders, as the unknown was the most frightening thing. Thirdly, and most importantly, Wang Changsheng’s soul lamp was still burning, indicating he was certainly fine.
As Wang Qingshan and Fairy Cailian transformed into two streaks of light and soared into the sky, a deafening roar of thunder echoed from above, and fierce winds began to rage.
Elsewhere on Green Lotus Island, a massive dark cloud hovered in the sky, streaked with lightning and booming with thunder. Faint roars of large beasts could be heard within it.
A glint of surprise flashed in Fairy Cailian’s beautiful eyes. She had resided with the Wang family for over thirty years, and this was the third time she had witnessed such a phenomenon. The Wang family had mastered a secret art for raising Third-Tier Flood Dragons, and the number of their Third-Tier Flood Dragons had steadily increased over the years.
“It seems another spirit beast is undergoing tribulation, and perhaps our Wang family will gain another Third-Tier Flood Dragon,” Wang Qingshan said with a joyful smile.
In recent years, in addition to the Third-Tier Flood Dragons, the number of Core Formation cultivators in the Wang family had steadily grown. However, what was most astonishing was that Wang Yingjie had advanced to the Core Formation stage. Considering his four-spirit-root aptitude, his breakthrough had caused quite a sensation at the time.
Wang Yingjie’s ability to enter the Core Formation stage was primarily due to his discovery of the advanced cultivation methods for the Nine Revolutions God Forging Art from an ancient cultivator’s cave abode. According to the former master of the abode, he was originally an elder of the Nine Nether Sect. During an internal conflict within the sect, he was unintentionally drawn in and severely wounded by Shangguan Wei’s subordinates. While escaping, he managed to take with him the complete cultivation method for the Nine Revolutions God Forging Art.
In addition to the Nine Revolutions God Forging Art, Wang Yingjie had also acquired a substantial amount of wealth.
Thanks to his achievements, Wang Yingjie obtained two Core Formation spiritual items. He then exchanged his contribution points for another Core Formation spiritual item and purchased a fourth with spirit stones at an auction. It took a total of four Core Formation spiritual items for him to advance to the Core Formation stage, whereas most cultivators typically only needed two.
Fairy Cailian nodded thoughtfully. Just then, fierce winds suddenly surged, and myriad colorful spiritual lights, incredibly dazzling, emerged in the void. The sky within a hundred-mile radius was permeated with a vast amount of five-colored spiritual light.
“This is a Nascent Soul tribulation phenomenon! Someone is attempting to form a Nascent Soul!” Fairy Cailian exclaimed.
It had only been a little over a century since Wang Qingshan himself had advanced to the Nascent Soul stage, and now another member of the Wang family was attempting the same breakthrough. She became even more convinced that the Wang family was blessed with immense fortune. The greater the ability, the greater the responsibility; the stronger the fortune, the heavier the burden.
The Four Seasons Sword Sovereign’s Nascent Soul formation had also caused a phenomenon. His legendary feats of slaying demons in the Eastern Wilderness and expelling devils from the South Sea had left behind tales across the entire East Emu Realm. The Grand Unity Immortal Sect had also used this opportunity to establish its position as the foremost of the seven great immortal sects in the Eastern Wilderness, a position that no other force could shake.
“Fairy Cailian, I suggest you postpone your departure from Green Lotus Island for a while longer. What do you think?” Wang Qingshan said earnestly. He had already tried to persuade Fairy Cailian to stay several times, thinking that if a family member successfully formed a Nascent Soul, he could use this as an opportunity to ask her to extend her stay.
“Very well. Then I shall impose a little longer,” Fairy Cailian agreed after a slight hesitation.
Inside a black pavilion, Ye Haitang sat cross-legged on a prayer mat, her eyes gently closed. Beside her, a light green incense burner held a half-burned Three-Essence Spirit-Calming Incense stick.
She was attempting to form a Nascent Soul, undergoing her inner demon tribulation.
In a boundless sea, dozens of cultivators surrounded Ye Haitang. Their eyes glinted ferociously, and their faces were filled with murderous intent.
“Ye Haitang, you have unleashed evil spirits, causing harm to countless cultivators! Why don’t you surrender and accept your punishment?”
“Indeed! For the sake of your cultivation, you even slaughtered your own kin, leaving no one alive on Green Lotus Island. Your inhumanity is abhorrent; this world cannot tolerate you.”
“Fellow Daoists, let us act together and slay this demoness before she can wreak more havoc upon the world.”
Ye Haitang’s expression was cold and indifferent. Zhao Meier stood beside her.
“Hmph, you are seeking death!” Zhao Meier said, her tone filled with temptation. “Fellow Daoist Ye, let’s join forces and wipe them out. We can refine their essence souls into a powerful treasure. With such a vast world, where can we not go?”
Ye Haitang frowned slightly, and her voice was indifferent as she said, “I must admit, you were very convincing this time; I almost fell for your trick. However, you miscalculated one thing: my uncle and aunt would never harm me. Even if others forced them, I believe they would never kill me.”
In this inner demon tribulation, Zhao Meier’s true identity was revealed. The Ten Great Sects of the South Sea jointly pressured Wang Changsheng and Wang Ruyan to kill Ye Haitang. Zhao Meier preemptively acted, slaughtering the cultivators of Green Lotus Island, making Ye Haitang a public enemy of the South Sea cultivation world.
The inner demon aimed to make Ye Haitang succumb to a path of slaughter, but Ye Haitang did not fall into its trap.
Even if Zhao Meier’s identity were exposed, Ye Haitang and Zhao Meier could simply leave the Wang family. Wang Changsheng and Wang Ruyan would never resort to killing her. Anyone else might harm Ye Haitang, but Wang Changsheng and Wang Ruyan absolutely would not; Ye Haitang believed this without a shred of doubt.
“You can never truly know another’s heart. How can you be so certain they wouldn't harm you? I think you’ve lost your mind. Let me kill these people first, then we can talk slowly,” Zhao Meier sneered, her face filled with murderous intent.
Ye Haitang let out a soft snort. She fiercely lashed out with the bone whip in her hand, striking Zhao Meier. Zhao Meier let out a shriek and dissolved into specks of spiritual light, vanishing.
Zhao Meier had constantly incited Ye Haitang to become an enemy of all cultivators, clearly a manifestation of the inner demon.
After Zhao Meier disappeared, the other cultivators also vanished one by one.
Ye Haitang’s vision blurred, and she suddenly found herself back in her residence. A deafening roar of thunder sounded, and a torrent of pure spiritual energy descended from the sky, surging wildly into Ye Haitang’s body.
Ye Haitang formed a hand seal. A dark glow surged around her, and her delicate body rapidly swelled.
Within her dantian, a black inner core, the size of an egg, spun rapidly. Pure spiritual energy poured into it, and the inner core steadily grew in size.
A quarter of an hour later, the black inner core had grown to the size of a watermelon, its surface covered in cracks.
With a ‘crack,’ the black inner core shattered, and a miniature infant, identical in appearance to Ye Haitang, appeared in her dantian.
Shattering the core to form the Nascent Soul, once Ye Haitang passed the lightning tribulation, she would be a true Nascent Soul cultivator.
Boom! Following a deafening clap of thunder, Ye Haitang took out a dark array plate. She channeled spell after spell into it, her gaze resolute.
