In the blink of an eye, Sang Qian was dragged down.
Zu An was startled. He had only meant to tease her, as his previous life's movies had conditioned him to instinctively associate old wells with ghosts and monsters. But he never expected such a turn of events. If anything serious happened to Sang Qian, he would likely be plagued by guilt for the rest of his life.
He rushed over immediately. Just then, a burst of fire erupted from the bottom of the well, and a nimble figure shot out. It was Sang Qian. Her face was filled with panic. Upon seeing Zu An, she instantly reacted as if seeing a loved one, shrinking behind him and trembling while clutching his arm.
Only then did Zu An remember she was a fire elemental cultivator, and he couldn't help but chuckle. "Since you can use fire elements, those hairs would have burned to ashes the moment they touched fire. Why were you so scared?"
"Don't say it..." Sang Qian covered her ears. Just thinking about the scene made her legs go weak. "It's over," she thought, "I'll probably have nightmares every day now."
"Ah Zu, what was that thing just now?" Zheng Dan also instinctively moved closer to Zu An, naturally feeling a bit scared of such things as a woman.
"That should be the main entity," Zu An replied, keeping his eyes fixed on the well entrance.
Zheng Dan and Sang Qian followed his gaze and instinctively leaned closer to him again. Many dark hairs, like vines, were spreading out from the well entrance, continuously growing as if endless.
Watching the hairs surround them, Sang Qian's face turned extremely pale. Although terrified, she was not an ordinary woman. She eventually mustered her courage and unleashed fire elements to burn the hairs.
What made her eyes widen was that the hairs didn't instantly burn upon contact with fire as they had before. Instead, the flames she cast quickly vanished. She quickly tugged Zu An's sleeve and said, "These hairs are strange. They seem to be protected by a strange, chilling energy. My flames can't burn them. Could the opponent be cultivating ice-element magic?"
It seemed her recent attack had backfired, as she felt a bone-chilling cold and shivered uncontrollably. Immediately after, she felt a warmth in her palm. The cold sensation throughout her body instantly receded, and she felt much more comfortable. She lowered her head and looked at the hand he was holding, her cheeks slightly flushed, but this time she said nothing.
"The opponent cultivates something sinister and evil, not ice-element magic," Zu An said, releasing her hand. He then looked towards the well entrance and coldly demanded, "What kind of demon or monster is playing tricks here!"
A cackle echoed.
From the bottom of the well came a harsh, unpleasant sound, like an owl's shriek. "Who dares disturb my slumber!"
Feeling an inexplicable pressure, both Zheng Dan and Sang Qian's expressions changed, and they quickly urged, "Let's go! The opponent is very powerful."
But Zu An remained motionless. "Don't worry," he said. His voice had a strangely reassuring quality, and the two women gradually calmed down.
"If you want to leave, no one is leaving today." A figure completely shrouded in a black robe slowly rose from the bottom of the well, wisps of black mist coiling around his body.
Zu An even admired his own ability to entertain such absurd thoughts. He felt a bit displeased. He had initially thought that with such long black hair, it would be a beautiful female ghost, just like in TV shows. Who knew it would turn out to be such an ugly, deformed creature?
Unlike Zu An's relaxed state of mind, Zheng Dan and Sang Qian nervously swallowed. The pressure this figure exerted on them was inexplicably immense, especially since only half of his extremely pale face was visible. His face was so thin it looked like a skull, pure skin and bones, with deeply sunken eye sockets. His eyes, unlike a normal person's, glowed with a faint red light, making it impossible to tell if it was human or ghost.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, two beautiful young women. Your blood must be even more delicious and nourishing." The half-human, half-ghost creature looked at the two women, a flicker of excitement in its eyes. As he cultivated dark arts, he was extremely sensitive to yin and yang energy, so he naturally saw at a glance that they were women disguised as men. Hearing him say this, both women got goosebumps all over.
Zu An sighed. "Two such beautiful women, and all you want is to drink their blood? Sigh, you practice these dark arts, turning yourself neither human nor ghost. You've even lost a man's basic abilities. What's the point of living?"
Sang Qian and Zheng Dan's cheeks flushed. Although he was praising their beauty, why did it sound so strange?
"You're asking for death!"
Rage value from Chitu: 444444444...
The black-robed man flew into a rage. The black hairs on the ground instantly straightened, shooting out like sharp arrows. If one were hit by such an attack, they would likely be riddled with holes like a beehive. Zheng Dan and Sang Qian were about to prepare to join the fight, but Zu An signaled them not to. He shielded the two women behind him as a translucent energy wall appeared in front of him.
The black-robed man, Chitu, sneered inwardly. His move was most effective against cultivators' vital energy shields; as the saying goes, "a single point can break a surface." Even someone a level higher than him might not be able to block it. How powerful could this young man be at his age? He plans to take it head-on? He won't even know what killed him. He even considered whether to hold back a little power to spare Zu An's life, then slowly suck the blood of his two female companions in front of him, savoring the pleasure of torment.
However, his smile quickly froze. He watched as the sharp hairs struck Zu An's vital energy shield, only to snap inch by inch as if they had hit a steel wall. He himself felt his qi and blood churn from the backlash, causing extreme discomfort.
"How is this possible!" he exclaimed, looking in horror at the man before him. "He's so young, yet his cultivation is so high. This defies all logic!"
Not only Chitu, but even Sang Qian wore a shocked expression. Although she knew Zu An's cultivation was impressive, she hadn't expected his strength to have grown to this extent since their last parting. The black-robed man's aura indicated at least a seventh-rank master, yet Zu An had shattered his full-power attack without even lifting a hand. Zheng Dan, conversely, was much calmer. She had personally witnessed Zu An slaughtering a mighty red dragon when he was still weak. What was this in comparison?
At this moment, Chitu's face became even more distorted. "I almost gave up my physical body just to gain this power," he thought, "yet he didn't have to sacrifice anything, and his cultivation is far superior to mine. He's handsomer than me, has two beautiful women by his side—a complete winner in life. So what was all my effort for?"
His expression turned cold. "Although your cultivation is higher than mine, you might not be able to defend against my unique secret art," he thought. He dared not delay and immediately activated a secret technique. A black, solid-looking vengeful spirit suddenly appeared from thin air. Like a demon summoned from hell, it lunged directly at Zu An. Before it even reached him, the evil and malevolent sensation had already affected Zu An's spirit.
Even Sang Qian and Zheng Dan, who had been secretly on guard, felt their souls tremble with fear at that moment. It was an unknown power, leaving them helpless.
"It's over!" both women thought. They were considered outstanding among their peers and immediately realized that this type of attack targeted the spirit. Unless one had reached the Grandmaster realm and refined their spirit, they would likely die on the spot. Zu An, no matter how high his cultivation, couldn't be a Grandmaster.
The two women looked at Zu An in despair. Yet, his face was utterly calm. "Hmph! A mere parlor trick, daring to show off before an expert. Great Might Heavenly Dragon!"
He formed a hand seal and pressed his hand directly onto the head of the terrifying monstrous spirit. The vengeful spirit let out a shriek, instantly melting away like lingering snow under a blazing sun.
"Pffft!" Chitu ultimately spat out a mouthful of greenish blood, then his entire body collapsed onto the ground as if falling apart. The monstrous spirit had been his life-bound artifact, cultivated through his own essence. Now that it was directly destroyed, even if he miraculously survived, his cultivation would likely be less than half of its peak.
"It's you!" Chitu finally reacted. The frightening power emanating from Zu An was precisely what had damaged one of his ghost puppets not long ago.
"If you want to live, tell me honestly why you secretly used cursed charms to harm my friend." Zu An stepped forward, now standing directly in front of Chitu, looking down at him.
