Chapter 331: Each Has Reservations

Zu'an breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed another unfortunate soul had exposed their whereabouts. "I knew it," he thought, "'Bright Mirror' is indeed dependable."

But why did that figure look somewhat familiar?

Just as the person was fleeing rapidly, a piercing whistle suddenly rang out. A teacup lid shot out from the house, spinning at high speed.

Its speed made it almost impossible to discern its trajectory.

In the blink of an eye, the teacup lid, though launched later, reached its target first, striking the dark figure directly in the back.

With a soft cry of "Ah," the dark figure fell from mid-air.

Zu'an's expression changed. The voice was even more familiar, and her ample bosom, barely concealed by her night attire, indicated she was someone he knew well.

Just then, the sinister voice from inside the house spoke: "Dabao, I'll leave the outside matters to you."

"Yes, Godfather, please rest well. Your son will surely capture that assassin and bring them to you for judgment!" This must be Wei Dabao, the head of the Wei family in Bright Moon City.

Immediately after, hurried footsteps could be heard approaching the exit.

Zu'an, meanwhile, was on high alert, carefully moving away from the corner of the wall.

The sinister person inside had just heavily wounded someone from such a distance with only a teacup lid. Their cultivation must be terrifying. If he dared to make even a slight sound, he would most likely be dead.

It wasn't until he had completely exited the courtyard's perimeter that he finally breathed a sigh of relief, then hurried in a certain direction.

A graceful figure stumbled through the rock garden. She had just barely escaped from a swarm of guards, but unfortunately, she was at the end of her tether.

The mysterious person's recent strike had almost dispersed all her essence energy. Even so, she was severely wounded and likely wouldn't escape today.

Just then, she felt her hand being grasped. Startled, she was about to turn and attack, but then she saw an unexpected face.

Zu'an said, "Follow me!"

The woman before him was masked, but her familiar eyes and her prominent chest clearly betrayed her identity.

Who else could it be but Big Manman!

There was no time to ask why she was there, as guards appeared in the distance. He grabbed her hand and ran.

Pei Mianman recognized him and stopped resisting, following him as they fled through the night.

Unfamiliar with the Wei family estate, and sensing Wei guards everywhere, even the Wei family head himself leading the pursuit, he had no choice but to take Pei Mianman back to his own room.

Not long after, the door was violently forced open from outside, and a group of people carrying torches and swords stormed in.

Leading them was a middle-aged man who bore some resemblance to Wei Hongde. He must be Wei Dabao, the head of the Wei family.

"Brother Wei, what is this...?" Zu'an, who had already undressed and was in the bathtub, looked at Wei Hongde with a "perplexed" expression.

Wei Hongde said apologetically, "My apologies, Brother Wei. We have an assassin in the house, and we were worried they might disturb you, so we came to check."

"Who would be so bold as to cause trouble in the Wei estate?" Zu'an sneered inwardly. It was obvious they suspected the assassin was here; otherwise, why would they directly ram open the door?

"We're not sure, only that it was a woman," Wei Hongde replied, then introduced them, "Father, this is Zu'an. He brought my younger brother back today."

Wei Dabao nodded, "The Chu family son-in-law is truly an impressive talent."

Zu'an quickly said, "Greetings, Uncle. However, in my current state, I'm afraid it's inconvenient to get up and pay my respects. I hope you don't mind."

Wei Hongde, standing nearby, quickly added, "No need to get up, no need."

He certainly didn't want to relive the scene he witnessed last time in the secret realm.

Damn it, I remembered it again!

Wei Dabao also walked over and said, "Oh, you're too polite. My son Suo'er has been taken care of by you quite a bit at school. We really should find a chance to properly thank you."

As he spoke, he looked around, finally approaching the bathtub and peering inside.

However, to his surprise, a large amount of petals covered the water surface, making it impossible to see what was beneath.

This didn't deter him. He secretly extended his qi into the water and, upon finding no one inside, subtly nodded. "Alright, rest well. We still need to search for the assassin elsewhere."

Zu'an, as if unaware of what had just happened, smiled and waved his hand, "I won't see you out."

The group exited, and the servants, knowing better, closed the door for him.

After they left, Wei Hongde asked, "Father, did you find anything?"

Wei Dabao shook his head, "There's no one else inside. I must have been mistaken."

"The assassin was a woman, so it really shouldn't have anything to do with him," Wei Hongde echoed.

"Search elsewhere. I don't believe a heavily wounded female assassin could have gotten far," Wei Dabao snorted, and with his subordinates, resumed their search.

Once he was certain they had left, Zu'an quickly helped Pei Mianman out of the bathtub. "How are you?"

Seeing her in a semi-conscious state, he quickly pressed on her chest, administering compressions.

"Cough, cough," Pei Mianman spat out a few mouthfuls of water and finally regained consciousness.

Zu'an smiled slightly, "If you didn't wake up soon, I was going to give you artificial respiration."

Pei Mianman weakly rolled her eyes at him. "You're always so improper."

She held onto the edge of the tub and looked out. "By the way, how did you hide from them just now? With the Wei family head's cultivation, he should have detected someone in the water."

"I don't know," Zu'an chuckled. "Maybe he saw my strong pectorals and felt inferior, getting flustered and not having time to check carefully."

He laughed. In truth, he had used his "Blue Duck Water Control" ability to block Wei Dabao's spiritual energy perception, but such a thing would be difficult to explain to her.

Pei Mianman turned to see his bare body, and a faint blush appeared on her cheeks. "Help me up quickly."

"Oh, right." Staying in the water wasn't a solution, so Zu'an quickly got up to help her out.

Having just been submerged in the water, Pei Mianman's clothes were completely drenched and clung tightly to her body, revealing her graceful figure in full.

As Zu'an supported her, the warm, elastic softness he felt in his palm made him instantly stiffen.

Pei Mianman inadvertently glanced down and her heart pounded with fright, thinking, *Men are all... all like this...*

Zu'an also felt a bit awkward. "I'm sorry, it wasn't intentional."

Pei Mianman didn't respond, merely climbed out of the tub with a red face. After a moment, to break the awkward silence, she asked, "By the way, why are you here?"

Zu'an replied half-truthfully, "I brought a drunk Wei Suo back, and he threw up all over me, so I came here to bathe and change, and incidentally stay the night. When I heard the estate was catching an assassin, I got curious and went out to look, only to find it was you."

"It seems we truly are fated to meet," Pei Mianman couldn't help but sigh. "If it weren't for you today, I might have been captured here."

Zu'an chuckled, "They say, 'Fate brings people together, though they be a thousand miles apart.'"

Pei Mianman, leaning on a nearby pillar, gave him an exasperated look. "Does Chuyan know you flirt with me like this in private?"

Zu'an smiled, "Actually, you were the one who started flirting with me in the first place."

Pei Mianman snorted, "I keep feeling like I've fallen for your grand scheme."

She had originally thought that with her beauty and charm, dealing with an unvalued son-in-law would be effortless, and she could easily manipulate him.

But after several interactions, she felt as if *she* was the one being manipulated.

Zu'an helped her sit down nearby. "By the way, why did you come to the Wei estate this time?"

"To find something," Pei Mianman replied.

Zu'an's heart skipped a beat. Could their objectives be the same?

He quickly asked, "What are you looking for?"

Pei Mianman answered just as directly, "I'm not telling you."

Zu'an looked dejected. "I did save your life, and we're such good friends. You won't even tell me this?"

Pei Mianman, her face pale from her injury, looked at him. Her usually smiling peach blossom eyes were not smiling now. "You haven't told me the truth either, have you?"
