Chapter 2373: Secret

"That was just an experiment," the Chronicler of Ages replied. "At the time, I wanted to gently alter the fate of an insignificant person to see how much it would affect the course of history. Now that I have a conclusion, such things will not happen again in the future. Your Excellency need not worry."

Zu An frowned slightly, always feeling that the fellow's words were not entirely truthful.

The Chronicler of Ages continued, "Actually, my existence usually goes unnoticed. Even when I use my abilities, people don't realize it. Only someone as exceptionally gifted as Your Excellency can perceive my presence."

Zu An sneered, "Stop flattering me. One moment you're by the Demon Lord's side, the next you're by mine. If you claim you have no ulterior motives, not even a ghost would believe you."

The Chronicler of Ages bowed. "So Your Excellency is concerned about that. Actually, the reason I appear by your sides is due to the nature of our profession as Chroniclers of Ages. Countless events happen every day across the myriad realms, and we cannot record everything. We only record important matters."

"Just as chroniclers in some primitive societies only record the deeds of emperors and generals, we likewise record the affairs of important figures across various realms."

"Important figures?" Zu An frowned. "You mean the most powerful individuals in each world?"

"Not strictly," the Chronicler of Ages explained. "We Chroniclers of Ages possess a technique called 'Aura Scrying,' which allows us to observe the fortune of living beings. Individuals with better fortune are often influential figures. Even if they are not powerful now, they are destined to become strong in the future, influencing countless causalities and creating numerous events."

"As the master of the demon world and also its strongest, the Demon Lord's fortune is naturally extraordinary, which is why I appeared by his side." He glanced towards the top of Zu An's head. "However, Your Excellency's current fortune is splendid beyond compare, far surpassing even the former Demon Lord's. That's why I wish to cooperate with you. Being by your side, many events worthy of my record are bound to occur, and then I will become the most dazzling star in our circle!"

Seeing his sudden excitement, Zu An was somewhat bewildered. What was going on? Why had this fellow suddenly become so goofy?

What happened to his previous profound inscrutability?

"You can scry auras?" Zu An was surprised. He had heard of similar techniques before but never expected to witness one firsthand.

"This is a fundamental skill for us Chroniclers of Ages," the Chronicler of Ages said proudly. "After all, it's the only way to determine whose affairs are worth recording."

From a distance, Pei Mianman couldn't help but ask curiously, "Oh, then what about our fortunes?"

The Chronicler of Ages glanced at them, a complex pattern beginning to spin in his eyes. Then he exclaimed, "How extraordinary! I've never seen so many individuals with such great fortune. Several of you are worthy of having independent biographies in my historical records."

As he spoke, he took another look at Jing Teng and Pei Mianman, finding that these two women had the densest fortunes, so much so that he found them somewhat incomprehensible.

"Wait," he mused, "the fortunes of the others initially seem slightly weaker, but on closer inspection, there appear to be many variables about them. Should certain opportunities arise, their fortunes might explode."

Thinking this, he couldn't help but marvel, wondering if it was because of their close relationship with Zu An.

It seemed that after returning from that sealed history, he would need to stay here for a while; there were simply too many things to record.

Just then, Salame also asked with great curiosity, "Master, what about my fortune?"

Zu An: "..."

Why did it suddenly feel like a fortune-telling session? Were girls really so easily swayed by such things?

The Chronicler of Ages glanced at her and shook his head slightly, saying, "Young Mistress, you once had good fortune, but now it is nearing exhaustion. It seems your time is almost at an end."

The smile on Salame's face instantly froze, then she erupted in anger, "What kind of charlatan master is spouting such nonsense here!"

The Chronicler of Ages merely shook his head slightly, offering no rebuttal.

Seeing this, Salame's heart sank.

At that moment, the nearby Mogard comforted her, "Young Mistress, no matter what, I will stay by your side."

Salame, however, wasn't listening at all. Instead, she gritted her teeth, thinking, "Even if this truly is fate, I refuse to believe in it!"

"I will break it!"

The Chronicler of Ages bowed to Zu An. "Is Your Excellency willing to let me accompany you?"

Zu An did not reply but flew over to Pei Mianman and the other women.

He seemed to hesitate, about to speak, but Pei Mianman reached out and pressed her fingers to his lips. "You don't need to say anything. We naturally know you're going to rescue Sister Ling'er."

"I've made you worry," Zu An said gravely. Normally, he couldn't leave Xie Daoyun unattended, especially since they had just established their relationship a few days ago.

"I'll go with you to rescue Sister Ling'er," Pei Mianman said with a sweet smile. "That way, I won't worry."

Jiang Luofu also said, "Daoyun is Eldest Senior Brother's closed-door disciple. I can't just stand by. I'll go with you too."

The others also volunteered, asking to go along.

Just then, Jing Teng suddenly said coldly, "What are you all gathering for? With your cultivation, you'd only hold him back if you went. Today, the Demon Lord almost used you to threaten him."

Hearing this, the women were startled. Indeed, the recent danger was still fresh in their minds.

Although they very much wanted to stay by Zu An's side, realizing that it might jeopardize his safety, none dared to act rashly.

Seeing that she had successfully dissuaded them, Jing Teng secretly gloated. *Hmph, with these vixen gone, I can have him to myself.*

Just then, Pei Mianman suddenly looked at Salame and the others nearby. "What should we do with them?"

She remembered the woman's previous malice.

Before Zu An could speak, the few demons under Salame, as if on cue, frantically fled in different directions.

They had previously been loyal to Salame and persisted for so many years because there was still hope: once the Lord of Slaughter was rescued, or if they obtained the backup plan he had left behind, they could completely turn their fortunes around.

But now, all of that was gone, even the last chance to profit from the situation. So why would they remain foolishly loyal?

When disaster struck, everyone scattered. They all had the same idea: see who was unlucky enough to be caught. Since they were going in different directions, surely one of them would escape.

If they could lie low in this world and act discreetly, wouldn't that be a more comfortable life than existing in that sunless underground city?

Zu An snorted coldly. How could he allow these demons to lie low?

With a casual wave of his hand, several golden light swords shot out in various directions, catching up to the fleeing demons almost in the blink of an eye.

The light swords pierced directly through their bodies, and the demons let out various screams.

They were indeed strong, but in this world, how could they be Zu An's match?

Zu An immediately flew in front of Salame. She looked indifferently at the corpses of her subordinates. "Heh, good riddance."

Mogard immediately spread his arms, blocking her. "You are not to harm the Young Mistress!"

Salame pushed his hand down and stared intently at Zu An. "Is my father dead?"

"Yes." Zu An nodded. At this point, there was no need to hide it from her.

"Did you kill him?" Salame gnashed her teeth.

Zu An shook his head. "No."

"Then how did he die?" Salame quickly asked.

Zu An calmly said, "I don't need to answer your question."

The Lord of Slaughter had been annihilated by the mysterious entity summoned by Qiu Honglei, which was, in itself, a messy affair.

"Since my father wasn't killed by you, I'll offer you a secret in exchange for Uncle Mo's life," Salame said.

"Young Mistress, my life is not worth regretting! I only wish to see you live well!" Mogard immediately exclaimed, anxious.

Zu An frowned slightly. "I'm not interested in your secret."

He knew how vicious this woman was; who knew what schemes she would concoct to save her own life?

"What if this secret concerns her?" Salame pointed at Ji Xiaoxi, who was nearby.
