"What!" Not only did Pei Mianman and the others exchange bewildered glances, but even the demons, including Saramei and Mogard, nearly had their eyes pop out of their sockets.
The Demon Lord's true form was that three-headed monstrous bird?
Are you kidding? Wasn't that the Demon Lord's mount?
All the demons were utterly bewildered. For all these years, had they not even known who their true enemy was?
Zu An adjusted his breathing as he walked towards the monstrous bird with two damaged heads; that momentary burst of power had also taken a significant toll on him.
"After I consecutively destroyed two of your heads and watched them grow back, I started wondering how many heads you truly possessed. Then, the image of that three-headed monstrous bird spontaneously appeared in my mind, and I instinctively wondered if you had three heads."
"But then I began to realize something was wrong. While there are beings in the various realms of the universe who don't rely on their heads, they are usually mindless monsters." (Zu An recalled the massive corpse sphere in the Sealed Land.) "You, however, clearly don't fit that description. After much thought, for your head to be severed and you to act as if nothing happened, there's only one possibility: there's something wrong with this body of yours."
"Considering you can use the Blood Pool to create bodies for the demons who come to the cultivation world, is it possible you also created a body for yourself?"
"If that's the case, where exactly is your true form?"
"You guessed my true form just because of that?" The Demon Lord looked at him in disbelief.
"Of course, it's not just that. The most conclusive evidence is that when you were cornered, you summoned the three-headed monstrous bird from the void," Zu An said with a smile. "That was probably your biggest mistake. Back then, only you followed us into the teleportation array. A target as large as the three-headed monstrous bird couldn't possibly have been concealed."
"What's more, our world is exceptionally unique. The world barrier has regenerated, and without my permission, no external being can possibly enter." Zu An stared at the monstrous bird's true form. "Yet you specifically summoned such a massive creature in."
"After much thought, unless you were originally one entity, there's no other explanation," Zu An said with a chuckle. "I also recalled that every time I saw you in the Demon Realm, you were almost always inseparable from that three-headed monstrous bird, which further corroborated my hypothesis."
"Just now, you feigned being in a desperate situation. Ostensibly, if I just withstood an attack from the three-headed monstrous bird, I'd at most be severely injured, but I'd have a chance to kill your human form. I figured no one could resist such a temptation." As Zu An spoke, he glanced at Mogard below.
Mogard's face flushed crimson. Recalling that none of his recent judgments had been correct, he was so ashamed he wished he could crawl into a crack in the ground.
Zu An's tone shifted. "However, no one knew about your true killing intent or the monstrous bird that is your true form. If I had thought I would only be severely injured and dared to withstand its attack, I would probably be a corpse by now. Speaking of which, I find it very strange why no one in the Demon Realm has known what your true form is for so long."
As Zu An spoke, he had already arrived in front of the monstrous bird's true form. His sword was just about to swing down when suddenly a beam of light enveloped the Demon Lord, pulling him directly away to a distance.
Zu An was startled and sharply turned his head to look.
Saramei and Mogard also looked at their subordinate beside them with shocked expressions, as if they were seeing him for the first time.
The demon, with a smile, slowly ascended into the sky and asked the Demon Lord, "How have you considered my previous proposal?"
The Demon Lord seemed to recognize his voice and was both surprised and delighted. "I agree," he exclaimed, "I agree to sign a contract with you and become your mount!"
Close to death, he naturally wouldn't let go of this lifeline.
All the demons present were stunned, never expecting the once lofty Demon Lord to be so humble.
A mount?
And who exactly was this fellow?
If Saramei and Mogard truly believed he was their former subordinate, then they were truly stupider than pigs.
At this moment, the subordinate shook his finger, correcting, "You misunderstand, Your Excellency. It's not a mount, but a partner."
"Partner, partner," the Demon Lord said, breathing a sigh of relief. At this point, he couldn't be too picky.
In truth, he had been struggling with whether to agree to the other party's proposal, but ultimately he had been somewhat unwilling.
With the invasion of the cultivation world having failed, he could only place his last hope on the Killing Lord's previous contingency plan.
But he never expected everything to fall apart, and now he couldn't even save his own life.
Given the circumstances, agreeing to the other party's conditions became a natural consequence.
Zu An coldly glanced at Saramei and the others. This woman's subordinates had been infiltrated like a sieve; it was truly absurd.
Then his gaze shifted to that subordinate. "You are the Historian of Ages?"
He had never forgotten that mysterious envoy from the Demon Realm; he had almost been framed into killing Butler Pi back then, and he had always been wary of his abilities.
Now that the Demon Lord had managed to slip in, it would have been strange if this person hadn't as well.
"Historian of Ages, Yuanzhou, greets Your Excellency, Lord of this World." The light in front of the demon twisted for a moment. When he reappeared before everyone, he had taken on the appearance of a young scholar.
However, he wore a grimacing mask on his face, making him appear somewhat sinister and terrifying. He utterly lacked the refined elegance of a scholar.
"What do you intend to do here?" Zu An asked, looking at him coldly.
"I came to discuss with you..." The Historian of Ages had just begun to speak when his expression suddenly changed. He realized the other party had already appeared instantly before him, and the divine sword in his hand, imbued with the will of the entire world, was thrusting towards him.
A brush instantly appeared in his hand, and he quickly wrote a character in front of him.
An invisible wall of qi appeared between the two, while various restraining spells surged towards Zu An.
However, the next second Zu An vanished, and his previous position was taken by the Demon Lord's true form.
The Demon Lord was already severely injured, and how could he have expected Zu An, who was initially attacking the Historian of Ages, to suddenly switch places with him?
Almost instantly, he was caught by the Historian of Ages' various restraining spells.
Although many magic treasures on his body tried to resist this restraint, his true form was simply too weak.
Thus, he was ultimately affected.
The Historian of Ages' expression changed dramatically. Worried that Zu An would seize the opportunity to attack the Demon Lord, he furiously scribbled with his brush, hurriedly releasing the restraints on the Demon Lord, and simultaneously setting up layers of defense behind him to prevent Zu An from returning.
To his surprise, the next second his vision blurred, and he found that he had switched places with Zu An again!
At this moment, Zu An appeared in front of the Demon Lord's true form, and with a single sword stroke, in the Demon Lord's terrified eyes, he severed his last head.
The Demon Lord was still not entirely free from the Historian of Ages' restraints, and his movements were impeded, so how could he possibly dodge?
As for the defenses the Historian of Ages had just instinctively set up, they were all on the Demon Lord's back, intended to prevent Zu An from attacking from that direction.
Because he was personally in front, he hadn't hastily set up any additional defenses there.
Little did he know that under the opponent's two spatial displacement maneuvers, the powerful defenses he had set up became like a Maginot Line. He had even, to some extent, helped Zu An restrain the Demon Lord.
Seeing the Demon Lord's massive corpse plummet heavily, crashing down and flattening a hilltop, the Historian of Ages felt as if he was still dreaming.
Only then did Zu An wipe the blood from his sword tip. "Right," he said, "what were you just saying you wanted to discuss with me?"
