“A fake sky?”
“The sun is also fake?”
After hearing this, the women looked up suspiciously at the sky and the dazzling sun.
“Huh, something seems off,” Pei Mianman muttered after a moment of observation. This sky was a bit dimmer than a normal sky, and the sun much brighter, appearing significantly closer to the ground. Yet, despite its apparent proximity, it didn't feel vast. Originally, she had attributed this to the differences between this world and her own, but Zu’an’s reminder made her realize something was amiss.
“This appears to be a massive formation, simulating the appearance of the sky,” Xie Daoyun observed carefully for a long time, then exclaimed in shock, “What kind of feat is this, to create such a colossal formation?”
Hearing her professional analysis, the other women were equally astonished. Given their status and position, they were no strangers to large-scale formations. The massive demon-subduing formation in the human capital had been impressive, but compared to the sheer scale of creating an entire simulated sky, it paled significantly.
“I never expected the demon world to be so highly advanced,” Zu’an couldn't help but marvel. Not only were the individual demons powerful, but their mastery of formations was also incredibly profound. Yet, such a powerful world was now facing destruction. At that moment, he felt the universe truly was perilous.
“What’s wrong with that sun? Why does it appear so small despite being so close?” Jiang Luofu’s gaze fell on the distant orb of light, her expression filled with doubt.
“Because it’s atop a tall tower; it seems to be a huge luminous orb created by the demons.” Given Zu’an’s cultivation level, he had naturally sensed the true nature of that ‘sun’ beforehand.
No sooner had he spoken than the ‘sun’ in the sky suddenly extinguished, plunging the entire world into darkness.
A normal sunset is a gradual process, but this one was like a light switch being flicked off—it went dark instantly. Fortunately, scattered lights appeared in the distant rooms, like countless household lights – no, on second thought, they were sparse, far less bustling than the human capital at night.
But these lights were enough for everyone to discern what the ‘sun’ truly was. It was a magnificent tall tower, at its apex a rapidly spinning, eye-like sphere. Clearly, this had been the source of the light, and it had now entered a dormant phase.
“That was their daytime; now it must be their night,” Xie Daoyun deduced.
Jiang Luofu surveyed her surroundings, even sniffing the air. “This must be an underground city, carved out deep beneath the surface.”
Yun Yuqing couldn’t help but marvel, “These demons are truly incredible, to be able to construct such a massive city underground, complete with its own simulated day and night!”
From a distance, the city appeared incredibly vast, its limits beyond sight. While the architectural style differed greatly from their own world – for instance, their world’s doors were wide and grand, while these were tall and narrow – the art of beauty was universal. The sheer grandeur of the underground city’s various structures astonished the well-traveled women.
“They must have been forced underground by that destructive hurricane,” Pei Mianman’s words filled the women with concern. If even such a powerful world couldn't withstand the apocalyptic beasts and had to retreat underground for refuge…
“Shh, someone’s coming,” Zu’an suddenly whispered. The women instantly fell silent, discreetly touching their weapons, ready for combat at any moment.
Just then, a demon rushed over. It was in human form, save for its pointed ears with three black markings, and eyes that were entirely black, similar to the characteristics of the True Demon envoys. Clearly, it was from the True Demon clan.
Upon seeing Zu’an, the demon’s eyes lit up, and it rushed towards him with outstretched arms. Zu’an was about to subdue it, but to his surprise, the demon dropped to its knees with a thud, bowing repeatedly and babbling joyfully in an unknown tongue.
This made it awkward for Zu’an to act; he was rather dumbfounded. It was clear the demon knew Donar, likely one of his subordinates. However, he suddenly realized a serious problem: although he had flawlessly transformed into Donar’s appearance, he didn't speak the demon language!
When these demons had previously visited his world, they seemed to adopt the local custom of speaking the local language, leading him to subconsciously assume that the demon language was the same as his world’s. Who knew that upon returning to their own world, they would immediately revert to speaking their native demon tongue?
The other women also realized the predicament; their expressions subtly changed as they prepared to subdue the demon at any moment.
Just then, Solonshi’s voice echoed in his ear: “He’s Donar’s servant, welcoming his master’s return.”
Zu’an was taken aback. “You understand the demon language?”
Solonshi replied, “Their language is very similar to the ancient language of our demon race. I specifically studied ancient demon script to cultivate some ancient secret techniques. Although there are some differences, I can still more or less understand it.”
Zu’an secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, he had brought Solonshi along this time; otherwise, everyone present would have been at a loss. Although Yun Yuqing was also a demon, she had been forced to go undercover in the human world early on, so she wasn't very familiar with the ancient demon language.
At this moment, the True Demon looked up at Zu’an with a puzzled expression, seemingly wondering why his master wasn’t responding.
Zu’an quickly sent a telepathic message to Solonshi: “Communicate with him and try to gather as much information as possible.”
Solonshi nodded, not asking for further details. As a princess renowned for her quick wit, she didn’t need to be told these things. She quickly began conversing with the True Demon in its language.
The True Demon looked at her somewhat strangely, then his gaze towards Zu’an gained a hint of admiration.
Solonshi’s pretty face flushed slightly. “He asked if we are your newly acquired female slaves.”
Zu’an’s brow furrowed. “Tell him your identities as Saintesses. See if you can find out from him what Donar intends to do with those Saintesses.”
Solonshi nodded slightly and continued to communicate with the True Demon envoy. Zu’an, meanwhile, used this opportunity to telepathically inform the other women about the situation. The women were all greatly relieved that Solonshi was there.
When they heard they had been mistaken for female slaves, all eyes turned to Jiang Luofu. Seeing even Ji Xiaoxi staring at her, Jiang Luofu couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed. Unfortunately, this was not the time for an outburst.
Soon, Solonshi relayed more information: “This True Demon is named Adjiang, and he’s one of Donar’s trusted subordinates. Donar specifically left him here to provide support at any time. He just now detected the fluctuations from our formation, helped us conceal its activation aura, and then dared to approach.”
“Conceal?” Zu’an noted something unusual.
Solonshi explained, “I pretended not to understand and asked him about it. According to him, everything in this underground city is regulated. Maintaining various formations requires a huge amount of primeval stones, and with everything on the surface of this world destroyed, primeval stones are extremely scarce. Therefore, private use of formations is prohibited. Any use must be reported and approved by higher authorities.”
Zu’an finally understood why Donar had taken such a great risk by specifically establishing the destination of the large teleportation formation outside. The fluctuations generated by interdimensional spatial teleportation of that scale were definitely not something a subordinate could conceal.
“So what exactly are the Saintesses for?” Zu’an then asked.
Solonshi shook her head slightly. “I tried to get information indirectly, but he’s very tight-lipped. Apparently, he’ll only discuss these matters with Donar.”
Zu’an had a headache. He couldn’t speak the demon language at all. When he had interacted with Donar before, he hadn't sensed any language skill to acquire from him. He had just tried interacting with Adjiang, but similarly, there was no prompt to learn a language skill. Even if he didn't uncover the Saintesses' secret from Adjiang, it would be impossible to navigate and communicate in the demon world without speaking.
Just then, Solonshi’s voice suddenly carried a hint of panic: “He’s wondering why you haven’t spoken, Master!”
