Novel:
Zu'an: "..."
But your sister asked for it.
Unfortunately, he couldn't explain any of it, so he had to take the blame.
When Zu'an and Shang Liuyu returned to the Dragon Palace, Shang Hongyu came out to greet them: "Did everything go smoothly?"
"Yes, we got it," Zu'an replied vaguely. It had gone smoothly, yes, but there had been a few unexpected incidents.
"That's good. I was worried those guys might try to snatch it," Shang Hongyu said, breathing a sigh of relief.
Zu'an was also a bit surprised. Kachir hadn't seemed to appear all day. Where had he gone?
On the way back to the bedchamber, Shang Liuyu's expression was particularly odd as she watched her sister naturally hook her arm through Zu'an's, looking as intimate as a married couple of many years. Oh, sister, when you finally learn everything, I wonder how you'll handle the public humiliation.
Sensing her sister's gaze, Shang Hongyu looked confused: "What's wrong, Liuyu?"
"Nothing," Shang Liuyu replied, withdrawing her gaze and then giving Zu'an a warning look, telling him not to let anything slip.
Zu'an didn't know whether to laugh or cry. What sin had he committed to end up in the Dragon Palace, having to put on so many acts? If he didn't win an Oscar for Best Actor, he'd be truly indignant.
"Your brother-in-law didn't bully you, did he?" Shang Hongyu suddenly asked with a hint of vigilance. She'd felt something was off all day. Zu'an and her sister were old acquaintances, and their relationship had been somewhat ambiguous. Could he have been tempted to flirt with her on the way?
At the words 'brother-in-law,' Shang Liuyu raised an eyebrow: "With sister here, he wouldn't dare, would he, brother-in-law?"
Seeing the other woman's gritted-teeth pronunciation, Zu'an wisely chose not to retort.
"Is that so?" Shang Hongyu looked somewhat suspicious. Just as she was about to ask more, a servant suddenly came to report that some friends had come to see the Dragon King.
"Friends?" Zu'an was puzzled and looked at Shang Hongyu.
At this, Shang Liuyu said with a half-smile, "What's wrong, brother-in-law? You don't even know who your own friends are, do you? Do you have to ask my sister?"
Zu'an thought to himself, *This woman's resentment hasn't faded; she won't miss any chance to tease me.* But he had to admit, her voice had an inexplicable charm; just hearing her say 'brother-in-law' made his body tingle.
Shang Hongyu quickly covered for him: "Of course your brother-in-law knows; he's just wondering why these fellows are coming to see him at this particular time." At the same time, she quickly sent him a telepathic message listing a few individuals: "These are loosely considered the Dragon King's friends, but according to recent intelligence, they should all be living comfortably within their own clans. The closest one is still thousands of miles from the Dragon Palace. I really can't figure out who would come at this time."
Zu'an replied calmly, "Let's adapt to whatever comes. If they truly are friends, we'll have more help." With that, he rose and headed for the reception hall.
Shang Hongyu watched his retreating back with some worry. The training he'd received recently mostly covered matters within the Dragon Palace; external people and events were only touched upon briefly. She wondered if he could handle it.
Seeing her worried expression, Shang Liuyu couldn't help but chuckle: "Sister, don't worry. He'll definitely be fine." *Is sister really treating him as a husband? No, that's not right. She was never this attentive to the Dragon King back then.*
When Zu'an arrived at the reception hall, he found three figures seated within, each enveloped in a cloak, making their exact appearance unclear. He couldn't help but frown slightly, for each of them was incredibly powerful, possessing at least the strength of an Earth Immortal! More importantly, a familiar aura emanated from them: the aura of demons.
Is it true that Grandmasters are less common than dogs, and Earth Immortals walk everywhere? Zu'an had often encountered such scenarios when reading novels in his previous life; he never expected to experience it firsthand. Without reaching that realm, one naturally wouldn't know what lay beyond it. Furthermore, these individuals all hailed from beyond the heavens; extraterrestrial demons were generally more powerful than cultivators in this world. It seemed he needed to find a way to quickly strengthen this world's power, otherwise it would be truly unfair that so many brilliant cultivators couldn't compare to many demons.
Just then, the three figures saw Zu'an and gestured for the other attendants and palace maids to withdraw. Then the figure on the left, whose eyes glowed with fire, spoke: "Lord of Myriad Transformations, are you still going to appear as this pathetic Dragon King when you see us?"
Zu'an's heart stirred. So the fake Dragon King was called the Lord of Myriad Transformations? The name was quite fitting; no wonder he could transform into the Dragon King and deceive the entire sea race. These demons were clearly very familiar with him. *Oh no, what did the Lord of Myriad Transformations usually look like in front of them? Was it his faceless monster form?*
Just as he was truly agonizing over what to do, another figure with a particularly prominent mouth chuckled: "Flame Demon Siren, have you forgotten that the Lord of Myriad Transformations has no fixed appearance? Perhaps even his previous appearance was just a trick on us."
Zu'an breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, this fellow had helped him out and even inadvertently revealed the other's identity. No wonder he'd sensed a strong fire element from the previous figure; the surrounding seawater seemed unable to affect the flames on him. So he was called the Flame Demon Siren. As for the one speaking, with such a long mouth and noticeable scales on his face, could he be a crocodile monster?
"Do you think I don't know? I was just joking. Bloodthirsty Crocodilian Ancestor, you look so serious, just like those human fishermen," the Flame Demon Siren sneered.
"What did you say? Do you want to fight?" the Bloodthirsty Crocodilian Ancestor roared in fury, slamming his hand onto a nearby table and shattering it. A thick, bloody stench filled the entire hall; the whole room seemed steeped in the reek of blood.
"Who's afraid of you!" the Flame Demon Siren instantly rose, his body engulfed in fierce flames that pierced through his cloak, incinerating the surrounding tainted blood. Within the room, his flames and the other's bloody aura stood in opposition, neither able to overcome the other.
"Enough, enough. Have you no sense of where you are, making such a ruckus?" the third person said coldly. A swirling black mist enveloped him, distorting the light around his body. Neither the Bloodthirsty Crocodilian Ancestor's bloody aura nor the Flame Demon Siren's flames could approach within three feet of him. Zu'an secretly observed him. A tangible sense of dread seemed to emanate from this figure, held in check. Could he specialize in psychic attacks?
"Hmph, I'll give Fear Shadow Demon some face today and not bother with you," the Bloodthirsty Crocodilian Ancestor grumbled, and then sat back down.
Zu'an almost wanted to hug and kiss him. This 'big smart one' had, with his ruckus, inadvertently saved him a lot of trouble, at least by revealing everyone's names. Although he could also use his Rage Value system to check, that would be too much hassle.
Just then, the anxious inquiries of the guards came from outside the door: "Dragon King, what's happening inside?" With such a loud commotion just now, there was no way the guards hadn't heard it.
Zu'an calmly replied, "It's nothing, just a few friends joking around. You may withdraw for now." As he spoke, a surge of potent oceanic energy swept through the entire room, completely washing away all the previous bloody aura, flames, and other disturbances. He had seen the fake Dragon King act before, and that entity could use abilities quite similar to the true Dragon King, so he wasn't worried that his actions would expose him. Feeling the calm atmosphere in the room and witnessing the Dragon King's display of power, the guards all acknowledged the command and withdrew.
At this point, the Bloodthirsty Crocodilian Ancestor looked at Zu'an with a hint of envy: "Lord of Myriad Transformations, your ability truly makes me envious. Not only can you transform into others' appearances, but you can even possess their abilities simultaneously. I truly don't know how you do it."
Zu'an's heart stirred. No wonder even the Rage Value system couldn't identify him before; so the Lord of Myriad Transformations actually possessed such an ability. Did that mean this entity could completely replace someone? Such an ability was truly heaven-defying; no wonder the other demon was envious. How could that 'Lord of Myriad Transformations' possess such incredible power?
