Chapter 260: Greedy God Has Disappeared

A bleak wind blew, and people shivered.

In the desolate wilderness, amidst a pile of tangled weeds, stood a man and a woman. Both were clad in grey robes. The man was unremarkable, a fact that went without saying. However, the woman's figure was truly striking; even a loose robe somehow appeared skin-tight on her, creating an astonishing sight!

"Where's Glutton God?" the woman asked, her face showing displeasure. In her hand, she held a jade-green spiritual flower. If Xu Xiaoshou were present, he would immediately recognize it as a peak innate spiritual medicine: the Teng Snake's Eye. It was a peculiar spiritual medicine that possessed both potent toxicity and immense vitality; used correctly, it could kill enemies, but used incorrectly, it could lead to two deaths. Beneath the woman's feet lay the severed head of a grass-green python, dozens of feet long. The python was dead, and the spiritual medicine had evidently been taken from its guardianship.

The grey-robed man was trembling all over, appearing somewhat disoriented. "Glutton God... it, it's gone missing..."

"Useless!" The woman's almond eyes widened in fury. Her anger flared, causing her to sweep up her robe, and with an astonishingly agile kick, her long leg swept through the air with a resounding thud, sending the man flying back several yards, his head bleeding profusely!

"Where's the Life Xuan Pill?! Didn't I tell you to feed it one every so often?" she snapped, her tone irascible.

"The Life Xuan Pills... weren't enough..." The man cowered, getting up while clutching his bleeding forehead. In a blink of an eye, his injuries had miraculously self-repaired. He explained, "Glutton God... it eats far too much. Soon after you left, the supply of Life Xuan Pills couldn't keep up..."

A flash of white expanded before his eyes, and the man was once again sent flying into the ground.

"Useless, useless, useless!" The woman cursed repeatedly, pacing back and forth incessantly. How could she not know of Glutton God's enormous appetite? But hadn't she already set out? Glancing at the "Teng Snake's Eye" in her hand, the woman fell silent. If only she had been a few steps faster, perhaps Glutton God wouldn't have left?

"Where did it go?" the woman asked.

"I, I don't know..." the man meekly replied. Seeing the woman's face turn pale again, as if she was about to kick him, he clutched his head. "Maybe it went into the city..."

"Into the city?!" The shrill, piercing rhetorical question immediately made the man crouch down, clutching his head. The woman asked in disbelief, "Are you sure?"

"Not entirely sure, but it's highly probable..."

"Useless!" The woman's long leg was raised high in the air but did not descend. "Which city did it enter?" she pressed.

The man's expression relaxed, and he lowered his guard. "Tiansang City."

Thud, thud, thud! High-impact whip kicks directly cracked the ground, sending dust flying. The man lay in a pool of blood, his body completely reduced to messy fragments.

"Useless, trash! You can't even handle a simple task, what good are you? Glutton God is gone. If those above hold us accountable, can you and I bear the responsibility? Useless! Truly useless!"

The man's fragmented body in the pool of blood suddenly dissolved into a pool of blood, which then merged and reformed into a human shape. "Sister..."

"Don't call me sister! I don't have a brother like you!"

"Heh heh..." The man's voice, however, had completely changed, his sinister laughter terrifyingly chilling. "Sister? If you weren't my sister, I'd..."

The long leg kicked again, and the human form shattered into splatters of blood.

"Oh? So you've learned to resist?" The woman put her hands on her hips, her alluring figure even more pronounced. She leaned down, her voice filled with mockery.

The man remained in the pool of blood, not daring to reform. The air finally quieted down. The woman paced for a long time before coming to a stop.

"To the city!"

A head emerged from the pool of blood, asking in shock, "Given our identities, can we enter the city?"

"What do you suggest then?"

"I..."

The woman glared at him impatiently and rebuked, "Take out your 'Suppressing Artifact' and let's go! If we delay any longer, we'll run out of time!" With that, she pulled out a thick purple chain and wrapped it around her body. As it wrapped around her, her entire aura instantly transformed. Apart from her alluring presence, not a single trace of spiritual energy escaped from her.

The man reformed, his eyes wide. He couldn't help but swallow, muttering, "Can't you tie it... like that?"

A long leg swept past, and his head shattered.

"Hurry up! Being useless is one thing, but now you're babbling nonsense? Besides being useless, what else can you do?"

"Heh heh, well, I can still help you kill people!" As the man spoke, he pulled out a gleaming golden Buddhist staff and walked out of the pool of blood. As soon as the staff appeared, the man seemed to become invisible; though still visible to the naked eye, spiritual sense could not detect him clearly.

"Amitabha. This humble monk... do I look the part?"

The woman rolled her eyes, an abundance of charm in her expression. "Useless! You're incorrigible! Let's go!"

The two took a few steps forward, then ascended into the clouds, heading towards Tiansang City with lightning speed. Their speed was so incredible, it was as if they were rushing to be reborn.

"By the way," the woman suddenly asked, "you didn't feed Glutton God any flesh and blood, did you?"

"Of course not! How could I dare? Even if it starved to death, I wouldn't let it touch any flesh and blood!"

"Phew, that's good. In that case, it shouldn't eat people. But Tiansang City..."

"Sister, you're overthinking it. It's just Tiansang City, nothing but a city lord. If anything happens, I'll handle it, and you just focus on finding Glutton God."

"You're right. Anyway, you're useless and can't die."

"Relax, it's not a big deal. It's just a little kitty..."

"Shut up, useless! That's our sect's Sacred Beast!"

"You hit me again..."

***

Black Street was already flooded.

In the tavern, Li Qi fiddled with the formation plate in his hand, feeling utterly bored. "Has Xiao Shiliu found the person? Why hasn't he sent me a message? Does he want to steal the credit?" He mused to himself, then let out a sneer. "Heh heh, little brother!" When it came to gathering intelligence, that guy could never compare to him. Others might not know what kind of person Xu Xiaoshou, their target, was, but he knew it perfectly well. An innate physique, innate sword intent, and combat power already proven to be able to contend with Upper Spirits. There were even rumors that he had slain a Grandmaster.

"The Zhang family's bounty, Tiansang Spirit Palace, a Grandmaster... Was Zhang Xinxiong killed? There's really no news at all!" If it was truly as he imagined, then it would be quite terrifying. Xu Xiaoshou... such a dangerous individual, how could he not sense the presence of assassins? No matter how professional he was, in this vast world, there would always be people with special methods who could foresee danger in advance. If he had them, others could too!

Li Qi never underestimated anyone, and this was the sole reason he had survived in the assassin profession for over a decade. As for his partner, Xiao Shiliu, he knew his background better than Xiao Shiliu himself. Want to hog the credit? Heh heh, dream on! No one would want to change his way of thinking, but Xu Xiaoshou would definitely exit through the back door!

As his thoughts shifted, Li Qi's expression changed unpredictably, becoming terrifyingly sinister. He completely failed to notice that from within the spiritual array, two figures, seemingly bewildered yet with extremely firm footsteps, had already emerged. One tall and one short, both wearing straw hats, they walked directly into the tavern.

"Waiter, food please!"
