The Nine Stars Sect was utterly defeated, their fall complete. Dong Shuye, the only one capable of resisting Wang Yang, had gone off to pursue Overmountain Tiger. Once the defensive formation of their base was breached, no one could stop Wang Yang's slaughter.
Cao Ye vaguely sensed a conspiracy afoot, but he had no time to dwell on it. He activated his spiritual power and shouted, "Everyone, prepare to evacuate!"
The disciples, who were already in a state of panic while assisting with defense at various key locations, immediately rushed towards the main hall upon hearing Cao Ye's shout. The Nine Stars Sect's Heavenly Pillar was located there, and by using it, they could return to Kyushu, their only means of escape.
"Crack..." The sound of the protective formation shattering echoed, and large swathes of ethereal light dispersed from the periphery of the Nine Stars Sect's base, like fireflies filling the sky. Xiao Zhu's suspended body fell weakly towards the ground. Wang Yang, having anticipated this, quickly scooped her up and held her in his arms.
With his other hand, he drew the long sword from his waist, pointing it forward: "Kill!"
In the jungle, Lu Ye was fleeing in disarray, his arms bloody and mangled, and his chest scorched.
Dong Shuye's seventh-stage cultivation was utterly beyond Lu Ye's ability to resist. If not for his Spirit Guard Glyph, he would have died the moment the opponent cast his first spell.
Lu Ye had initially thought that fleeing into the mountains would increase his chances of survival, but in reality, the dense jungle offered no concealment. Dong Shuye pursued him relentlessly, like a maggot clinging to bone. As spells were cast one after another, trees so thick that several people could embrace them fell in swathes.
He and Amber had been separated. When he took Dong Shuye's second attack, the powerful impact had thrown him from the tiger's back, causing the scorching on his chest. Lu Ye didn't know the extent of Amber's injuries, but they were certainly severe, as the ground beneath Amber was quickly stained crimson with blood when she fell.
Lu Ye didn't even have time to check Amber's injuries. He felt he might not escape this time, so he made a quick decision to flee separately from Amber. If they stayed together, Amber would also die.
If he was destined not to escape this calamity, at least Amber could survive.
The feeling of being stabbed in the back grew clearer. Fortunately, Dong Shuye did not continue gliding through the air because the trees here were tall and their canopies extremely dense. If he flew too high, he would easily lose sight of Lu Ye.
Even so, Dong Shuye's base speed, empowered by his seventh-stage cultivation, was not something Lu Ye could shake off.
Only thirty percent of his spiritual power remained. The Spirit Guard Glyph, barely able to block one of Dong Shuye's spell attacks, could only be activated one more time.
There was no chance left.
Lu Ye raised his bloody right hand and gripped the long saber at his waist.
Although his life had been short and not exciting enough, even if he were to die, he would face his enemy!
Suddenly, the roaring sound of rushing water reached his ears. Lu Ye initially paid little attention, but once he realized the source of the sound, he immediately changed direction and darted towards it.
Dong Shuye, pursuing from behind, spotted Lu Ye's figure from afar, his eyes blazing with fury.
He truly hadn't expected that personally chasing a third-stage cultivator would take so long without apprehending him. This was difficult for him to accept and only strengthened his resolve to kill Lu Ye.
Seeing Lu Ye change direction and hearing the thundering sound, Dong Shuye knew exactly what Lu Ye was planning.
"Boy, you can't escape! Submit to death willingly and spare yourself the torment!" Dong Shuye roared, soaring into the sky as spiritual power surged around him.
In mid-air, he instantly saw a massive waterfall cascading downwards. Under the blazing sun, the spraying mist formed a colorful rainbow. Within that rainbow, Lu Ye's figure was airborne, already leaping towards the base of the waterfall.
"Where do you think you're going!" Dong Shuye bellowed, hastily unleashing a Golden Arc Slash towards Lu Ye. A Golden Arc Slash cast by him, a seventh-stage spell cultivator, was far more powerful than one cast by Luo Ji, a second-stage cultivator. The Golden Arc Slash was nearly three feet long.
The crescent-shaped slash tore through the air, but because both were moving quickly, the attack missed its precise mark, cutting across Lu Ye's back instead.
Lu Ye's protective spiritual energy was as flimsy as paper. Blood splattered, and his face twitched in pain.
In that brief moment, he barely had time to activate his Spirit Guard Glyph. If he had been truly struck in the torso by such a Golden Arc Slash, he would have been cut in half instantly.
His body plummeted rapidly downwards, and moments later, he crashed into the pool below. Lu Ye immediately submerged himself, intending to conceal his presence.
At the same time, Dong Shuye floated down from above the waterfall, hovering over the pool. Without hesitation, he launched a series of Golden Arc Slashes at the spot where Lu Ye had entered the water.
Compared to other spells, the Golden Arc Slash undoubtedly possessed greater penetrating power. Although the water would impede the spell's potency, there was no better method available at this point, unless Dong Shuye was willing to delve into the water to search for Lu Ye's traces.
As the Golden Arc Slashes struck, the water surface was cut open, and thick blood rose from beneath, along with fragments of internal organs.
Seeing this, Dong Shuye quickly checked his battlefield mark.
Ten contribution points had been deducted...
This made Dong Shuye wince.
The Spirit Stream Battlefield was a very peculiar place. A mysterious power seemed to control cultivators' contribution points here. Killing enemies of a higher stage would result in double the contribution points, but killing someone three or more minor stages below oneself would lead to a significant deduction of points.
This mysterious power seemed to encourage cultivators to engage in cross-stage combat, while also punishing those who bullied the weak.
This was also why powerful cultivators were rarely seen in the outer ring of the battlefield. Contribution points were extremely valuable to any cultivator, and to earn them, one had to defeat enemies of comparable cultivation levels.
Cultivators at the sixth and seventh stages found few beneficial places in the outer ring. While they wouldn't entirely leave the outer ring, they would choose locations closer to the inner ring for their training.
As a seventh-stage cultivator, Dong Shuye would only gain contribution points by killing a fourth-stage cultivator. Killing a third-stage cultivator would deduct ten points, and killing a second-stage one would deduct twenty.
Ten contribution points wasn't a huge amount, but it wasn't insignificant either. For Dong Shuye, killing a cultivator of the same stage only yielded seven points. If it weren't for the elders in his sect issuing a death order, he wouldn't have personally come to pursue Lu Ye.
Fortunately, it was all over...
He looked at his battlefield mark again. While checking his contribution points just now, he noticed someone had sent him a message.
When he clearly read the message, his expression instantly changed drastically.
