Chapter 1219: Huang Tongtong and Green Yingying

Wind Rises in Kyushu

The fairies' discussion concluded, and Goldie stepped forward, his expression solemn. "We've decided," he announced, "we agree to your terms and will send our two strongest fairies to help you!"

His words sounded a bit off.

Lu Ye and Yu Yaorao were clearly there to help them fight against the invasion and restore peace to the Tree Realm. Yet, Goldie's statement implied a reversal of roles, as if the humans were the ones seeking aid from the fairies.

However, there was no need to dwell on such details with the fairies; they were naturally like this.

Yu Yaorao nodded. "That's excellent. May we know which two fairies your esteemed tribe will dispatch?"

Goldie chuckled. "About that... we still need to discuss it!"

Turning around, the fairies resumed their deliberation.

Lu Ye couldn't discern which fairies were stronger or weaker. In his perception, their aura seemed to have little significant difference, as if their cultivation levels were all similar. Yet, he assumed there must be a standard among them to distinguish strength. Furthermore, this matter concerned the future of the Fairy Tree Realm, so they wouldn't be careless. Since they said they would send the two strongest fairies, it would naturally be...

However, Lu Ye soon realized he had overthought.

Because the fairies were all highly resistant to this matter, the discussion quickly devolved into a quarrel. Just as the situation threatened to spiral out of control, Goldie leaped into the air, hands on his hips, and roared, "In that case, we'll follow the old rules! Humans have an old saying: 'Life and death are fated, wealth and honor depend on heaven.' It applies to us fairies too. So, no one is to complain later!"

The crowd of fairies immediately looked solemn, preparing themselves.

Just as Lu Ye thought they would determine the title of "strongest" through some sacred and just method, Goldie flicked his hand, and a large cylindrical object suddenly appeared. He clutched the cylinder with both hands, shaking it up, down, left, and right a few times, then slapped it down in front of him, bellowing, "Who's first!"

The fairies jostled each other, displaying excessive humility.

"Everyone gets a turn, no one tries to run!" Goldie, adopting the air of a patriarch, pointed at a fairy dressed in yellow. "You first!"

Ordinarily, any fairy would dare to defy Goldie, their patriarch, but when he gave an order, no one dared to disobey. The yellow-clad fairy immediately flew forward dejectedly, reached a small hand into the cylinder, and when he pulled it back, a long, dark object, made of an unknown material, appeared in his hand.

The yellow-clad fairy immediately cheered and burst into laughter.

With the first one done, the rest was simple. Fairies came forward one by one, each drawing a short black stick from the cylinder. Some were elated, while others were uneasy.

Lu Ye noticed that those who were elated had clearly drawn longer black sticks, while those who were uneasy had drawn shorter ones.

He finally understood. This was not a sacred and just ceremony at all; it was simply a game of chance. When all the fairies had drawn their black sticks, Goldie shook the cylinder again. Almost all the black sticks in the fairies' hands flew back into it, leaving only two fairies still holding theirs.

"Haha, the results are in!" Goldie declared, looking at the two long-faced fairies. "It's you two!"

Of the two fairies, one was dressed in yellow, but it wasn't the first yellow-clad fairy who had drawn. It was a different one. The second was dressed in green.

The yellow-clad fairy was male, and the green-clad one was female, whether by coincidence or not.

Goldie led the two fairies before Lu Ye and Yu Yaorao, straightening his expression. "Two esteemed guests, these are the two most powerful members of our fairy tribe. They will certainly provide the best blessings for your upcoming journey!"

Lu Ye was utterly speechless. If he hadn't witnessed their selection process, he might have actually believed Goldie's nonsense!

Yu Yaorao, however, seemed accustomed to such quirks and smiled. "Then many thanks, Patriarch. Please rest assured, we will protect them well."

Goldie nodded. "Then, the rest is up to you."

He pushed the two chosen fairies forward, turned, and left. A large group of fairies followed, quickly disappearing from sight. From a distance, Goldie's voice echoed, "Children, life is for enjoyment! Let's continue the feast!"

This was met with a chorus of cheers.

The two humans and two fairies were left looking at each other.

The two fairies were clearly quite uneasy about what was to come, their eyes filled with apprehension. Yu Yaorao, understanding their fear, gently reassured them, "Don't worry, you two, we absolutely won't let anything happen to you."

The two fairies nodded, their fear subsiding considerably.

Lu Ye spoke, "But you must also be obedient. If you're not, dying would be in vain!"

He was truly exasperated by the unreliability of these fairies. Ever since encountering them, he had witnessed various comical and absurd situations. Such unreliability might be fine in daily life, but if displayed during combat, it could lead to unnecessary trouble.

Playing good cop, bad cop was a natural human instinct. Since Yu Yaorao was playing the good cop, he had no choice but to play the bad cop. Frankly, if he weren't curious about the nature of the fairies' blessings, he wouldn't have wanted to bring these two along. However, observing Yu Yaorao's expression, she seemed quite pleased with the arrangement.

The two fairies, whose expressions had just begun to calm, became anxious again. Death... to them, it was the most sinister word in the world.

"So, in the upcoming operations, you must assist us well, and we will protect you with all our strength!" Yu Yaorao continued.

"But if anyone is disobedient or deserts in battle, I will cut them down first!" Lu Ye added.

Yu Yaorao smiled knowingly and said no more, turning instead to ask, "So, what direction do your blessings lean towards?"

The male fairy, Huang Tongtong, spoke first, still relatively composed. "My blessing leans towards enhancing the body."

The female fairy, Lu Yingying, spoke in a soft voice. "My blessing leans towards enhancing weapons."

Yu Yaorao nodded understandingly and gestured to Huang Tongtong. "Then you'll follow me, and the other one will follow Junior Brother Lu Ye."

As a spellcaster, she wouldn't be using a sword to fight, so Lu Yingying's weapon enhancement wouldn't be useful to her. This arrangement was perfectly logical.

Huang Tongtong nodded his head like a pecking chick, while Lu Yingying looked at Yu Yaorao with tearful eyes. "Can I—"

"No!" Lu Ye raised his hand, grabbed her, and settled her onto his shoulder.

Lu Yingying clutched a strand of hair by his ear, trembling.

Yu Yaorao chuckled and said, "Then let's start by introducing ourselves. I know your fairy blessings require the blessed person's name. I am Yu Yaorao, from the Nine Profound Realm. This is Junior Brother Lu Ye, from the Nine Heavens Realm!"

Huang Tongtong said, "I am Huang Tongtong."

Lu Yingying still spoke softly, "I am Lu Yingying."

"What kind of names are these?" Lu Ye was stunned, but seeing Yu Yaorao's smiling expression, she seemed to have expected it.

"Then I suppose we're acquainted now."

It had to be said that Yu Yaorao was not only beautiful but also skilled at mediating relationships. Being with someone like her, if not an enemy, would be very relaxed and pleasant. After a few exchanges, the two fairies were no longer as nervous and anxious as before.

"Before we act, could you let us experience the power of your fairy tribe's blessings? That way, it will be easier to coordinate later." Yu Yaorao proposed. This was a sensible suggestion; even if she hadn't mentioned it, Lu Ye would have.

If they were to cooperate, they naturally needed to familiarize themselves with each other first. They couldn't wait until they were already in battle to do so.

"No problem," Huang Tongtong nodded, then flew to Yu Yaorao's shoulder. He muttered something, and a layer of bright yellow light flowed over her, merging into her body.

Yu Yaorao raised her delicate brows, quietly feeling it. She sighed with admiration, "The fairy blessing truly lives up to its reputation!"

The enhancement to the physical body wasn't just about strengthening physique, which wouldn't be very useful for a spellcaster. However, under this blessing, she clearly felt the flow of spiritual energy within her body become faster, and her entire mind seemed much clearer. This single application could indeed boost her strength by at least ten to twenty percent. If a body cultivator were to receive such a blessing, the improvement would likely be even greater.

"What about you?" Lu Ye asked, seeing Yu Yaorao's thoughtful expression, and turned to look at Lu Yingying on his shoulder.

Lu Yingying jumped, almost falling off his shoulder. She felt that this human was much fiercer than the other one, and his wide-open mouth seemed ready to devour people. She dared not delay and quickly activated her blessing art.

Lu Ye waited for a moment but felt nothing. However, remembering what Lu Yingying had said earlier—that her blessing leaned towards weapon enhancement—he drew his Panshshan Saber.

Lu Yingying instantly cried out, "Don't kill me! Don't kill me! I've already tried my best!"

"Silence!" Lu Ye snapped. Lu Yingying immediately stopped crying, looking at him pitifully.

Lu Ye frowned. "It's not doing anything."

The Panshshan Saber seemed unchanged.

Yu Yaorao was puzzled. "That shouldn't be."

"Indeed, no change," Lu Ye said, looking at Lu Yingying. "Did you get the blessing wrong?"

"No! Absolutely not!" Lu Yingying waved her small hands frantically, her wings fluttering along with them.

Yu Yaorao also said, "A fairy's blessing cannot be wrong. If it's useless, then there's only one possibility." She looked at Lu Ye meaningfully. "Junior Brother, did you give a fake name?"

"What do you mean?" Lu Ye asked, confused.

Yu Yaorao explained, "A fairy's blessing is a wondrous power. Powerful cultivators have studied it before, but it's an ability that no race other than fairies can wield. It's mysteriously tied to some deeper secrets."
