Chapter 499: Yang Na

"What a complete lunatic!" Yang Na's father stared at the hysterical Li Huowang in the distance, his face showing even deeper disgust. It was all because of him that his daughter had become like this.

Immediately, he reached out and pulled Yang Na's emaciated arm, preparing to forcefully drag her back the way they came.

Watching the two figures in the distance walk further and further away, Li Huowang, his eyes bloodshot, stumbled and lunged at the barbed wire fence. "They'll turn back! Yes, that's right! They'll turn back any second!"

Li Huowang's eyes were wide, fixed on their backs, as he strained with all his might to control the imperceptible Innate Qi within him!

"Turn back! Turn back! Please turn back!!" As Li Huowang pressed his face forward, the crisscrossing barbed wire squeezed his contorted face into diamond-shaped segments.

When he saw Yang Na struggling to break free from her father's grasp, running towards him with tears streaming down her face, Li Huowang's lips curled into a slight smile. He laughed. "Hahaha! It worked!! I can cultivate in this world now!!"

Looking at the tearful Yang Na before him, Li Huowang had never felt such joy. His method had succeeded!

Reaching out and grasping her thin hand, Li Huowang said with a trembling voice, "Yang Na, just wait! Give me three years! No! Two years! Just two more years! Everything will go back to the way it was when we went to school together!!"

Yang Na shook her head vigorously, her dark hair sticking to her cheeks with her tears.

Suddenly, she felt her lower body lift; her father had hoisted her onto his shoulder, preparing to pull her away from the barbed wire.

"How long are you going to be so stubborn?! Can't you see he's completely insane? If you can't forget him, how can you ever recover from your illness! This guy will ruin your entire life!!"

But no matter how he pulled, their hands remained tightly clasped.

Tearful Yang Na gathered all her strength, leaned her head forward, and through the cold barbed wire, firmly kissed Li Huowang's cracked lips.

Feeling the softness between their lips, Li Huowang felt as if he was instantly transported back to the rooftop at dusk that day.

How he wished he could stop thinking about anything else and remain in this moment forever.

But this was clearly impossible. When Li Huowang saw Yang Na's thin, emaciated waist almost breaking from the pulling, a sudden pain shot through his heart, and he quickly released his tight grip.

"Nana! Go back and be well! Two years! I'll come find you in two years!" Li Huowang shouted loudly towards them.

Yang Na, clinging to her father's back, finally burst into agonizing sobs.

Only when Yang Na disappeared from his sight once more did Li Huowang slowly stop shouting.

He stared blankly for a long time, then exhaled, gripping the wire fence in front of him to steady himself as he stood up.

Just as he turned to pick up the broom from the ground, he saw Sun Xiaoqin standing there with a doctor and three orderlies. It seemed they had witnessed everything that had just happened.

"Five people?" Li Huowang instantly became alert. He immediately performed a front flip, gripped the broom on the ground with both hands, and took up a sword-fighting stance. "Don't come any closer! If anyone takes another step forward, don't blame me for being rude!"

Sun Xiaoqin, her face etched with pain, was about to speak when the young doctor held her back. He pulled her aside, whispered a few words to her, and then walked back.

"Li Huowang, rest assured, we won't come near you. Can you tell me why you're so fixated on five people? Is four not enough?" With a gentle wave from the young doctor, the three orderlies and Sun Xiaoqin gradually retreated into the distant building.

"Did you encounter danger over there? Were five people trying to harm you? You're not the only one with this symptom."

Li Huowang, gripping the broom like a sword, stared intently at the frameless glasses on the doctor's face. "Doctor, I just want to be quiet for a moment, do nothing, just for a little while."

"Of course, that's perfectly fine. You see, I'm not doing anything to you, am I? Are you waiting to return to that other world again? That's alright, as long as you don't have a stress reaction, you can do whatever you want."

After calming Li Huowang, the doctor took off his white coat, slinging it over one arm. Then, as if taking off a hat, he lifted the wig from his head, shook it, and put it back on.

"Li Huowang, since I've met your request, could you help me out? Honestly, I don't really want to bother you, but there's no way around it; these reports always have to be submitted. If you don't give me some kind of reaction, I'm just making things up every day, and it's making me lose my hair."

Seeing Li Huowang remain silent, the doctor pushed his frameless glasses up with his index finger. "Really not going to talk? Well, if you don't help me, then I won't help you. I'll just go gather five people and bring you back."

"Wait!" Li Huowang frowned deeply, staring at the doctor in front of him. His mind raced, wondering what had happened "over there" to be distorted into this situation "here," and if this doctor was one of the five people.

"Whatever's going on, I need to stabilize this doctor first. As long as I can maintain stability until I fully regain consciousness, I'll be safe."

After a moment of thought, Li Huowang spoke to the doctor, "What do you want to ask?"

"Nothing much, it's just that I'm a bit confused. Seeing you and that girl parting ways as if for life or death, do you consider this world real, or do you consider it fake?"

A flicker of confusion appeared in Li Huowang's eyes. "Fake... No! Real! It's definitely real!"

The doctor nodded, moving a little closer to Li Huowang. "Let's put the 'real' part aside for now. Let's discuss why you think this side is fake."

Hearing this, Li Huowang shook his head vigorously. "No! This is real! Everything here is real!"

"I know you want to recover, but forcing yourself to believe something isn't going to work. Let me think, is it because of too many coincidences? Every time you wake up, does something unexpected happen? Like Yang Na's appearance just now?"

Upon hearing this, Li Huowang's mind instantly cleared, and he calmly stared at the doctor in front of him. "Have you seen my past medical records? I only told this to previous doctors."

"Who you told isn't important. I just want you to understand that these aren't coincidences. Although you've been in a state of delusion for a long time, that doesn't mean you're unaware of everything here."

"What do you mean?" Li Huowang's brow furrowed tightly.

Seeing that Li Huowang was listening, the doctor patiently explained. "Li Huowang, when you're in a delusion, your subconscious mind is actually constantly receiving information from your surroundings. When you perceive information that you care about, your subconscious calls upon your ego to wake up."

"So, do you understand? The various coincidences that happen every time you wake up aren't just random occurrences; they're your own inner desires for those coincidences, which is why your ego awakens."

"I even conducted a small experiment. Before, I deliberately had your girlfriend call when your mother was feeding you, to inform her that she was coming over. That conversation, that piece of information, was received by your subconscious. Yang Na was coming, and your heart desired to see her."
