Li Huowang lay on a clean hospital bed, his eyes wide, looking at everything around him.
He looked around, then at himself. He seemed to understand something, yet at the same time, nothing at all.
As the ringing in his ears gradually faded, a familiar voice spoke, "Li Huowang? You're finally awake? That's wonderful!"
Li Huowang turned his head to look at Yi Donglai beside him, finding him gazing back with a face full of concern.
"I'm... awake. I'm finally awake. Those hallucinations were terrifying, but it's okay, they were all fake. Thank goodness they were all fake." Li Huowang's face immediately showed an expression of immense relief.
"What do you mean 'all fake'? They were all real! Time has rewound again! It's just a different point in time! Haven't you noticed you only have one eye left?" Yi Donglai's voice rose, his expression tense.
He looked extremely frightened, his eyes bloodshot.
Li Huowang looked at him with some confusion, seeing his seriousness, but then he suddenly smiled.
"Dr. Yi, please stop testing me. My illness is really cured. I understand that everything before was fake."
"I know that everything that happened in those hallucinations was merely an external manifestation caused by my fluctuating emotions."
"But rest assured, I've completely sobered up. I won't self-harm or attempt suicide again."
However, just then, the atmosphere in the room shifted. The brightness began to turn to darkness, and Yi Donglai's upper body gradually grew, almost touching the ceiling. An incredibly eerie laugh echoed from his direction.
"Hahaha! You think you've succeeded? Ignorant fool!"
As Yi Donglai turned around, everything around them began to change. Black water pooled on the floor, and the entire hospital room started to fall apart. The previous scenes began to reappear.
"Since you've abandoned the powers you controlled, you can no longer stop my infection! You're finished! The Great Nuo is finished too! Now, the White Jade Capital is all mine!"
Fear and the Way of Despair, enveloping everything they had bred, surged towards Li Huowang.
Just as the atmosphere was about to reach its peak, Li Huowang stared blankly at the distorted head of Yi Donglai. "Dr. Yi, please, really stop testing me. I'm truly well now."
The moment Li Huowang uttered these words, everything around them melted rapidly like snow under a strong sun. Yi Donglai's expression began to struggle, but ultimately, his upper body reverted to its normal size.
With everything back to normal, Yi Donglai nodded at Li Huowang contentedly. "Excellent, test passed. Congratulations, Xiao Li, your illness is cured. My efforts all this time have finally paid off."
No sooner had he finished speaking than many people flooded into the room from outside, applauding Li Huowang happily.
Zhao Shuangdian was wearing a doctor's uniform, and both Wu Qi and Chen Hongyu were in white lab coats.
They happily announced to Li Huowang, "Congratulations! Your illness is finally cured."
"What?" Yi Donglai looked in bewilderment at these "colleagues" he had never seen before, his eyes wide with shock.
He had never seen these people in the White Tower Correctional Facility, and they couldn't possibly be doctors!
"Impossible, you clearly..."
Suddenly, he remembered something, his expression turning to extreme terror as he looked at Li Huowang. "Could it be that everything you said was true?"
Yi Donglai's reaction startled the others, who began to question him.
However, the more the surrounding doctors tried to comfort him, the more intense Yi Donglai's reaction became, his eyes growing increasingly terrified and fearful.
Eventually, orderlies were forced to rush over with a straitjacket and put it on Yi Donglai.
Watching Yi Donglai being led away, shouting, Qing Wanglai said to Li Huowang with a slight headache, "You've really done it. You're cured, and your doctor's gone mad."
Li Huowang watched Yi Donglai disappear down the corridor, a smile on his face. "It's alright. There are so many good doctors here, he's sure to get better in this White Tower Hospital."
Qing Wanglai reached out and patted Li Huowang's shoulder. "Xiao Li, let's go. I'll write you a transfer order. You can move from the intensive care unit to a general ward, and you'll have more freedom."
Upon arriving at Qing Wanglai's office, Qing Wanglai took out a white disposable cup and brewed a tea bag for Li Huowang. "The hospital conditions are basic. Is oolong tea okay?"
"I haven't really had much tea, so I can't tell the difference."
"Haha, you're quite honest. Just a moment," Qing Wanglai said, opening a drawer and beginning to search through it.
"No rush, I have plenty of time now," Li Huowang said, taking a light breath of the antiseptic scent in the air and feeling an immense sense of peace.
"You kid, you talk like an old man. After you're discharged, go back and study hard, try to get into a good university."
"Dr. Qing, if I go to university, what will you do?" Li Huowang asked, as if making casual conversation.
"What else? Keep grinding away at the hospital, write papers about you, see if I can get a promotion this time."
"Advising someone to study medicine is like cursing them; it's endless late nights, overtime, and having to play along with you patients."
Qing Wanglai picked up the pen from his chest pocket, scratched behind his ear with it, then quickly began to doodle on a piece of paper.
Li Huowang looked at what he was drawing, squeezed the disposable cup in his hand, and staring at the brown tea inside, asked, "Doctor, could you do me a favor?"
Qing Wanglai stopped writing and looked at him. "Sure, we're friends now. Tell me, what do you need help with?"
The car started moving. Li Huowang looked at the scenery outside, then took out his phone and dialed Sun Xiaoqin's number.
"Hello, Mom, I'm well. Yes, I'm really well. I promise, it won't relapse. Can you come pick me up next month?"
Two hours later, Qing Wanglai's luxury car stopped in front of the Sixth People's Hospital. Through Qing Wanglai's connections, they smoothly entered a private ward. Lying on the hospital bed was none other than Yang Na.
Seeing Li Huowang walk in, Qing Wanglai stopped outside. He reached out and took Yang Na's medical record from a doctor; it stated severe depression.
Li Huowang walked to the bedside, pulled up a chair, and sat down, silently watching Yang Na on the bed, her eyes blank like a puppet's. "Nana, I've done what I promised you. See, I'm really cured."
"I'll stay with you, until the day you get better. When you're well, we'll retake the college entrance exam, and we'll go to university again. This time, I'll be with you."
Li Huowang gently spoke, holding Yang Na's emaciated right hand, which was covered in knife scars. He spoke for an unknown duration; outside, the sky turned from bright to night, and then from night to bright again. When he felt Yang Na's hand gently clasp his, Li Huowang smiled.
He extended both arms and held Yang Na tightly in his embrace.
