Chapter 332: Reincarnation Trial (Part 2)

Chapter 8: The Reincarnation Trial, Part 2

Half a month later, snowflakes were falling.

Meng An braved the wind and snow to reach the rear courtyard of Dongtian Pavilion and pay his respects to the Venerables.

“Greetings, Master and Venerables,” Meng An said, bowing respectfully before the pavilion.

Venerable Li Guan and the projection of Venerable Luo Tang were playing chess, while the projection of Venerable Qin Wu watched, sipping tea.

Venerable Luo Tang was frowning in thought, gazing at the chessboard. She turned, saw Meng An bowing respectfully, and her eyes lit up. She immediately tossed aside her chess piece, stood up, and declared, “That’s enough for now. Let’s get to serious business.”

“Just a few more moves and the outcome will be decided. There’s no rush,” Venerable Li Guan said.

“You may have time to spare, but Meng An’s time is extremely precious,” the projection of Venerable Luo Tang stated righteously and sternly. “For a Godfiend’s cultivation, there’s no room for waste.”

Venerable Li Guan sighed helplessly, “Alright, alright.”

“Meng An, come with us,” the projection of Venerable Luo Tang said.

“Yes,” Meng An replied, still somewhat puzzled. What could the Venerables possibly want with him?

Soon, the three Venerables led Meng An along a distorted void passage. Meng An looked around in astonishment; the void passage was surrounded by a dazzling array of light, and the void itself was completely twisted.

This void passage was completely solidified. Meng An watched everything with both awe and curiosity. Soon, they exited the void passage and arrived inside a Grotto-Heaven.

“Meng An, this is your opportunity,” Venerable Li Guan said, smiling at Meng An and pointing to the closed, towering palace gate ahead. “When the door opens, you will enter and undergo a trial. This trial will last anywhere from one month to half a year. You must strive with all your might to succeed.”

“Yes,” Meng An obediently replied.

“Go in,” Venerable Li Guan said. The projections of Venerable Luo Tang and Venerable Qin Wu also watched with anticipation.

Meng An then walked toward the ancient palace. As he approached the main entrance, the massive door rumbled open. Meng An stepped over the threshold and entered, and the door closed once more.

“The Reincarnation Trial holds the personal legacy of Ancestor Cang Yuan, and it is also the strongest legacy in our entire human world,” the projection of Venerable Luo Tang said, a hint of worry in her voice. “Can this young fellow, Meng An, pass the Reincarnation Trial?”

“Everyone who has cultivated a perfected Reincarnation Godfiend body is qualified to undertake the Reincarnation Trial,” the projection of Venerable Qin Wu stated. “However, very few succeed. The last time someone succeeded was over six thousand years ago.”

“We hope he succeeds. With the war at this stage, we need a Godfiend to inherit Ancestor Cang Yuan’s legacy,” the projection of Venerable Luo Tang said. “I’ve checked the records: since the Tribal Era, thirty-eight individuals from Yuanchu Mountain have passed the Reincarnation Trial! Excluding the seven who didn’t fully develop, the remaining thirty-one were all quite formidable. Two became King Godfiends, twenty-eight became Creation Venerables, and one even became an Emperor. Furthermore, all of them were renowned for their combat prowess.”

Venerable Li Guan nodded. “Nearly half of those who passed the trial were invincible in their respective eras.”

“Nearly half were invincible,” the projection of Venerable Qin Wu also nodded.

“After all, it is the strongest legacy of humanity,” Venerable Luo Tang said. “The opportunities within Cang Yuan Grotto-Heaven were all things Ancestor Cang Yuan stumbled upon during his travels outside this realm. But the Reincarnation Trial… that contains Ancestor Cang Yuan’s *personal* legacy, a complete system, and it is far more potent.”

“I’ll head back first,” Venerable Li Guan said. “Are you two going to wait here?”

“We’ll wait.”

“We’ll wait,” both the projections of Venerable Qin Wu and Venerable Luo Tang replied.

“Historically, only one out of every twenty who enter the trial succeeds,” Venerable Li Guan said. “Don’t get your hopes up too high.”

“We know,” Venerable Luo Tang said, waving her hand. “Senior Brother, please go about your business.”

Venerable Li Guan smiled helplessly and departed.

Time flowed on.

The projections of Qin Wu and Luo Tang waited patiently. In the blink of an eye, over two months had passed.

“Even though we know the chances of success are very low, we’re still waiting here,” Luo Tang said, playing a chess piece.

Qin Wu, also playing chess, chuckled, “Perhaps we are simply too desperate for humanity to gain another formidable combatant. If we could have just one more Creation Venerable who is ‘invincible in an era,’ it would be of immense help in the war.”

An Emperor?

Of all those who passed the Reincarnation Trial throughout history, only one ever became an Emperor. And it took over a thousand years. They dared not hope for such an outcome.

What they truly desired was a Creation Venerable who could be ‘invincible in an era’ – that was a more realistic goal.

“Indeed, we yearn for more powerful combat strength,” Luo Tang said, making another move.

Suddenly—

A cloud of black mist seeped out from the closed doors of the ancient palace, swirling and coalescing into a dark-skinned giant approximately ten zhang tall.

“A Guardian God?” Luo Tang and Qin Wu turned their heads, startled.

“I have good news for you,” the dark-skinned giant said with a smile, revealing a set of white teeth. “The young Godfiend who entered, Meng An, has successfully passed the trial. He is currently receiving the master’s legacy inside.”

“He succeeded?” Luo Tang and Qin Wu exchanged glances, both showing delighted surprise.

The dark-skinned giant nodded slightly. “Yes, he succeeded. He should emerge within a few days.”

After speaking, he transformed back into black mist and entered the palace.

“He succeeded, he succeeded!” Luo Tang exclaimed, overjoyed. “I truly didn’t misjudge him; this young Meng An’s talent is indeed extraordinary.”

A figure hurried from the void passage; it was Venerable Li Guan.

“Why the urgent summons?” Venerable Li Guan asked eagerly, his face full of anticipation. “Is there news about Meng An’s trial?”

“The Guardian God just emerged and informed us that Meng An has successfully passed the trial and is now receiving the Reincarnation legacy,” the projection of Qin Wu said with a smile. “He should come out in a few days.”

“He really succeeded?”

Venerable Li Guan’s face lit up with joy. “Excellent! The probability of passing the Reincarnation Trial is very low, but Meng An succeeded. It’s truly heaven-blessed!”

“Having one more Creation Venerable who can be ‘invincible in an era’ might just change the tide of the war,” Luo Tang said, filled with anticipation.

“He needs time to grow slowly,” Venerable Qin Wu said. “Even with rapid cultivation, it will still take him about a hundred years to become a Venerable. And even then, as a newly-formed Venerable, he would only be at the initial ‘Venerable’ level. To reach the ‘invincible in an era’ stage, it would take at least two hundred years.”

“Every additional powerful combatant increases our hope of victory,” Venerable Li Guan chuckled. “At the very least, Meng An passing the Reincarnation Trial is the best news we’ve had recently. Both he and his father are crucial to our human race. Once his father, Meng Chuan, reaches the Blood Droplet realm, he will be able to conduct large-scale hunts for demon monarchs in the underground. If Meng An becomes invincible in an era in the future, he will be able to easily deal with demon sages.”

The Godfiend system is inherently stronger than the demon race system.

Invincible among Creation Venerables! It is indeed normal to easily slay demon sages and fight against multiple opponents.

“Meng An still needs time to grow,” the projection of Qin Wu said. “My biggest worry is that the demon race won’t give us two hundred years.”

“That’s why we must try our best to hold on,” Li Guan said.

“It’s quite interesting, actually,” the projection of Luo Tang chuckled. “This Meng family’s three generations are each more formidable than the last. Meng Dajiang was a body-refining Godfiend, just an ordinary one. Meng Chuan’s talent was far superior to his father’s, allowing him to become a King Godfiend. And Meng An’s talent is even greater; he’s likely one of the most gifted individuals in hundreds of years, with a very high chance of becoming a Creation Venerable.”

Venerable Li Guan smiled. “Alright, this matter must be kept secret. Only Meng An and the three of us are to know! Once Meng An emerges, he must be strictly forbidden from speaking of it to anyone, not even his parents or his sister.”

“Understood,” Luo Tang and Li Guan nodded.
