Chapter 159: Marriage

The twelfth lunar month had passed, and the New Year was upon them.

Even the Godfiends exchanged New Year greetings, making the celebrations exceptionally festive. While many Godfiends typically didn't care much for New Year's festivities, those stationed at the city pass were different. Knowing they could fall in battle any day, they cherished New Year's Eve and the New Year celebrations. Consequently, over the past eight hundred years, the Godfiends of the city pass had developed a custom of exchanging greetings and celebrating together.

"The New Year is truly lively," Meng Chuan and Liu Qiyue remarked as they strolled along the streets of North River Pass. The streets were bustling with vendors, various acrobatic performances, and people dressed in their finest clothes, enjoying the festivities and leisure.

"Although North River Pass has a slightly smaller population than Dongning Prefecture, the New Year's atmosphere here is much stronger," Meng Chuan commented with a smile.

The two walked side by side.

"A'Chuan, we've been in North River Pass for over a year now," Liu Qiyue suddenly whispered, her face flushing slightly. "Do you have any plans for when we might get married?"

Meng Chuan was momentarily stunned.

How could he have let Qiyue be the one to bring up such a matter?

Meng Chuan felt foolish!

"Qiyue, didn't we agree?" Meng Chuan said, taking Liu Qiyue's hand and coaxing her. "We said we'd get married once we established ourselves in North River Pass. We've been through two major battles here, both great victories, especially the recent one... I killed Lion Demon King and several other demon kings. Who in North River Pass doesn't respect us now? Since we're firmly established, we can certainly get married right away."

"Get married right away?" Liu Qiyue's face grew even redder. She quickly added, "I'm not *that* eager."

"Eager? How could we *not* be eager?" Meng Chuan shook his head. "We need to write to Father and the others immediately. We should let them set a specific date; after all, such an important event must be discussed with them."

Liu Qiyue smiled and nodded. "Alright, let's discuss it with Father and the others." Her heart was filled with sweetness at that moment.

Finally...

She was finally going to marry A'Chuan!

Meng Chuan and Liu Qiyue wrote a letter to Dongning Prefecture. Meng Dajiang and Liu Yebai were naturally overjoyed upon receiving it. They had long awaited this day, but since Meng Chuan and Liu Qiyue were busy defending North River Pass against the demon race, they hadn't felt it appropriate to rush them.

A date was quickly set: the twenty-sixth day of the first lunar month, an auspicious day perfect for weddings.

The morning of the twenty-sixth day of the first lunar month.

Meng Chuan woke up. He was alone in bed.

"Today is the wedding day," Meng Chuan thought, smiling despite the empty space beside him. Liu Qiyue had moved to another residence last night, where Liu Yebai was also temporarily staying.

For the wedding, Meng Chuan had also asked a Godfiend from North River Pass to pilot a giant flying beast to Dongning Prefecture to pick up their guests. Both he and Liu Qiyue were crucial to North River Pass and could not leave freely. While a temporary departure for ordinary Godfiends wouldn't be a major issue, North River Pass was over thirteen thousand *li* from Dongning Prefecture, making it too far for many guests to travel on their own. Transportation by flying beast was essential.

The flying beast from North River Pass was originally a third-heaven demon king. After being completely controlled by Yuanchu Mountain, it was naturally fiercely loyal. Its body was quite large, with a wingspan of over ten *zhang*, and a broad back. It managed to transport all sixteen people — Meng Dajiang, Liu Yebai, members of the Meng clan, Liu Yebai's friends, and Dean Ge Yu of Mirror Lake Dao Academy, among others — in one trip.

"Chuan'er, quickly, quickly! There's so much to do today!" The stout Meng Dajiang urged eagerly, pulling Meng Chuan towards a group of women.

Meng Chuan smiled faintly, obediently allowing them to dress him. As they applied rouge to his face, he couldn't help but say, "Don't put too much on."

"Don't worry, Lord Meng, don't worry,"

"Your skin is excellent, Lord Meng, you're quite handsome."

The women were all very excited; this was their first time assisting at the wedding of two Godfiends.

The groom wore a simple white silk undergarment, but his outer robes were much more elaborate, featuring numerous fasteners and decorations. Godfiends usually wore simpler robes; otherwise, with dozens of fasteners, it would be too slow to get dressed if a battle broke out. Today, however, Meng Chuan was in no rush, allowing the women to help him put on his attire, including red boots.

His entire outfit was predominantly red.

Even his hair was impeccably styled, swept entirely back, with no stray strands on his forehead. He wore a golden crown on his head, the first time Meng Chuan had ever worn a crown.

It took them more than half an hour before the women finally stopped, satisfied.

Meng Chuan stepped out of the room into a courtyard filled with people, including Godfiends like Zhang Yunhu and Fan Cheng, as well as members of the Meng clan and Dean Ge Yu.

"Oh, my!" Fan Cheng exclaimed, chewing on a pastry, his eyes widening as Meng Chuan emerged. "Flushed cheeks and white teeth—what a handsome young man!"

Meng Chuan gave him a warning look.

"His face is quite red, with a lot of rouge," Shi Xiu couldn't help but chuckle. It was certainly amusing to see the usually fierce Godfiend saberman in such an appearance.

"Good, good, very good," Zhang Yunhu, however, praised.

"I watched Meng Chuan and Liu Qiyue grow up; Liu Qiyue often came to Mirror Lake Dao Academy to find Meng Chuan," Ge Yu told a Meng clan member beside him. "I also watched them go to Yuanchu Mountain together. Now they're getting married, and being able to drink their wedding wine fills my heart with joy. My disciple still remembers his old master."

"It's not even noon yet, and you're already half-drunk. Drink a little less; there'll be plenty of wine for you tonight," a Meng clan elder couldn't help but say.

"Don't worry, don't worry, I'm not drunk at all in my heart, I'm perfectly sober," Ge Yu said, his face flushed. He was a notorious heavy drinker, especially fond of good wine, and his happiness today only made him drink even more.

Meng Chuan chatted with everyone for a while.

"It's time!" Meng Dajiang called out repeatedly. "Chuan'er, quickly, quickly, it's time to pick up the bride!"

"Time to pick up the bride?" Meng Chuan immediately stood up.

"Lord Meng, come, come, put on this big red flower!" Three women rushed over and tied a large red flower to Meng Chuan's chest, adding to the festive look.

Meng Chuan obediently complied.

Soon.

The bridal procession set off. Meng Chuan rode a tall horse, while the procession marched with music and incessant firecrackers, drawing crowds of onlookers along the streets.

"Are two Godfiends getting married?"

"Is that Lord Meng, who killed many demon kings?"

The people of North River Pass watched from a distance, gazing at the groom on horseback.

Meng Chuan was already good-looking, and having refined his Nascent Soul and cultivated his physical body, his appearance and aura were naturally extraordinary. Many women on the streets couldn't help but blush at the sight of him, secretly thinking... if they could marry such a handsome young man, they'd wake up smiling from their dreams. Perhaps only a female Godfiend could be worthy of Lord Meng, a Godfiend himself.

Over five *li* away from Meng Chuan's residence stood North River Pass's tallest establishment, the 'White Cloud Restaurant'. Today, the ninth floor of the White Cloud Restaurant had been booked.

On the top floor of the restaurant.

A grey-robed old man guarded the private room's exterior, while inside, there was only one person.

It was a woman in a green dress, her face veiled by a thin gauze. She stood by the private room window, gazing in the direction of Meng Chuan's residence. Although more than five *li* separated them, her eyes, faintly glowing with purple light, could see the scene five *li* away with perfect clarity. She saw the stout Meng Dajiang standing at the entrance, watching the bridal procession depart. She also saw the blushing, handsome young man riding the tall horse in the procession.

"Dajiang, you've gotten so stout you've changed," the woman in green murmured, watching from afar. "Chuan'er has also grown up." A faint shimmer of tears appeared in her eyes.
