Chapter 766: Excitement

This was the Great Rift Valley Xiang Yi had mentioned earlier, stretching across their path and blocking the way.

The rift was incredibly deep, its end unseen, and the opposite side was lost to view. A continuous stream of purple mist surged from below, forming an upward current. This was very likely the source of the poisonous mist.

A Netherworld Demonic Flame flickered in Qin Sang's palm, its flame guiding him directly into the rift.

Qin Sang squatted down and leaned slightly forward.

Immediately, a rush of air hit him. Under the impact, the Poison-Dispelling Armor on Qin Sang's body began to tremble.

Qin Sang was startled. He quickly retreated and looked at the Fat Silkworm with some concern.

This was only above the rift, and the Poison-Dispelling Armor was already trembling. To find the spiritual flame, he would inevitably have to descend along the cliff face, constantly facing the impact of the poisonous mist.

The poisonous mist below was even more terrifying.

If the Fat Silkworm couldn't withstand it, he might not even have a chance to escape.

Fortunately, the Fat Silkworm showed no sign of strain. It opened its mouth and spat out a halo of light, which thickened the Poison-Dispelling Armor on Qin Sang's body by another layer, making him completely safe.

"Be smarter next time!"

Qin Sang glared at the Fat Silkworm, then breathed a sigh of relief and leaned out again.

The Fat Silkworm blinked its small eyes, looking a bit aggrieved.

This time, the purple mist impacted the Poison-Dispelling Armor but was firmly blocked. Qin Sang leaned over, staring downwards. He noted that the sheer cliff was not smooth like a mirror but uneven, offering places to gain purchase, and he nodded subtly.

Carelessly plummeting into the depths of the rift on his sword was definitely not advisable. A rapid descent could easily alert fierce beasts.

The Purple Mist Abyss contained many fierce beasts adapted to the poisonous mist, and such creatures were certainly abundant in the rift. Without a doubt, the closer one got to the source of the poisonous mist, the stronger these fierce beasts would be.

He recalled Xiang Yi saying that some speculated there were fierce beasts comparable to transformed great demons deep within the rift.

Qin Sang stood at the edge of the rift for a while, listening intently. Aside from the whooshing sound of the surging poisonous mist, he heard no cries from fierce beasts; it was completely silent below.

He walked a section along the edge, both left and right, finding that all parts were similar. The bottom was a chaotic expanse, and it made no difference where he descended.

After pondering for a moment, Qin Sang sent the Two-Headed Ferocious Beast back into the Primordial Concentric Ring and cautiously began to climb down into the rift.

The stones on the sheer cliff face were chillingly cold. Qin Sang used both his hands and feet to climb downwards.

Few people ever came here, and there was no path, so Qin Sang had to find his own way.

Initially, out of caution, Qin Sang slowed his pace, remaining constantly vigilant.

After climbing for a while, seeing no immediate danger and realizing the rift was seemingly bottomless, Qin Sang knew that continuing at this pace would waste too much time. He had no choice but to speed up.

"It's been almost fifteen minutes, and we're still not at the bottom of the rift. The purple mist is getting denser. At this depth, Xiang Yi's bone lotus and the young man's jade bracelet probably wouldn't hold up. But the Fat Silkworm has been completely at ease—what a pleasant surprise."

Qin Sang stepped onto a rock, lifted his sleeve, and looked approvingly at the Fat Silkworm.

With this experience, the poisonous mist had validated the Fat Silkworm's abilities. He was now certain that poisonous beasts at the Demon Core stage definitely couldn't breach the Poison-Dispelling Armor. However, he didn't know if it could withstand the potent venom of a transformed great demon.

The Fat Silkworm had just completed its third metamorphosis for the Poison-Dispelling Armor to possess such power. If he could find a suitable cultivation method, there would surely be even greater surprises in the future.

After resting for a moment, Qin Sang continued his descent. He had descended less than a few zhang when he suddenly stopped, looking in surprise at the lower right.

The purple mist surged. Through it, he vaguely saw the silhouette of a gnarled tree growing horizontally out of the sheer cliff face.

This old tree seemed to be withered, with no branches or leaves, only a trunk. Yet, dozens of fruits hung from its branches, swaying gently in the poisonous mist.

"Spiritual fruits can grow in the Purple Mist Abyss? Are they spiritual fruits or poisonous ones?"

Qin Sang glanced at the Fat Silkworm.

Back in the Black Wind Valley underground palace, the Fat Silkworm had been attracted to the Thousand-Handed Spider Fruit, eagerly eating the unripe poisonous fruit. Now, however, it showed no reaction.

Qin Sang stopped, staring at the old tree and examining it carefully. It seemed there were no fierce beasts guarding it.

After thinking for a moment, he silently moved towards the old tree. Unexpectedly, after just two steps sideways, he abruptly froze, staring intently at the 'spiritual fruits' on the treetop.

These were no spiritual fruits; they were clearly some kind of fierce birds, hanging upside down from the branches like bats, and they were sleeping!

Their wings were folded, and their bodies were round, swaying with the wind. From a distance, they closely resembled spiritual fruits, but in reality, they were unknown fierce birds, and there were dozens of them.

There seemed to be similar old trees below.

Their small size didn't mean anything. Qin Sang certainly didn't want to disturb this flock of fierce birds.

He held his breath, cautiously retreated, and took a detour. He discovered many more below, some hanging on trees, others nestled in rock crevices.

Cold sweat broke out on Qin Sang's forehead, and he became even more cautious afterwards.

Fortunately, such groups of fierce beasts were not common. He didn't know how deep he had descended, but Qin Sang's feet finally touched solid ground.

"Phew..."

Qin Sang slowly exhaled, then perked up his ears and listened. The surroundings were still very quiet; it seemed the bottom of the rift was even quieter than the top.

He pressed down firmly; the ground beneath his feet was hard rock.

He summoned the Netherworld Demonic Flame once more. The flame pointed clearly to the front-left, flickering more joyfully than before, exceptionally excited. This was a stark contrast to its behavior on Cold Flame Island.

Qin Sang didn't understand why. He shook his head and summoned the Two-Headed Ferocious Beast.

The man and beast were extremely vigilant, walking silently forward.

The bottom of the rift was far wider than he had imagined. Although Qin Sang walked in a diagonal line, he traveled a considerable distance without ever seeing the opposite cliff face.

Guided by the Netherworld Demonic Flame, Qin Sang traversed the poisonous mist rift, proceeding almost inch by inch, and constantly monitoring the Fat Silkworm's condition.

The Fat Silkworm no longer had its previous ease. It was half-hunched, clinging to his sleeve, its expression grave, and had already spat out several successive halos of colorful light to reinforce the Poison-Dispelling Armor.

With each halo it spat out, the Fat Silkworm's eyes dimmed a little, as if it was nearing its limit.

Suddenly, the Fat Silkworm let out a hissing sound. It scurried from his sleeve onto the back of Qin Sang's hand, raising its upper body. Its eyes were very eager, and its cries were full of longing.

Qin Sang was surprised but immediately realized that the Fat Silkworm had sniffed out some scent that was beneficial to it.

Was there something in the depths of the purple mist that interested the Fat Silkworm?

Besides the Crimsonfire Flowing Gold, both the Thousand-Handed Spider Fruit and poisonous demon cores were related to poison. It wasn't strange for something poisonous in the Purple Mist Abyss to attract the Fat Silkworm.

The Fat Silkworm tried to stretch its plump body, pointing to the left, which was not the direction Qin Sang was heading.

Qin Sang looked left and right, pondered for a moment, and decided to first go after what the Fat Silkworm wanted.

Even if he found the spiritual flame, the hope of immediately subduing it was not great. At most, he could refine another fire bead, which would require gradual efforts in the future. However, if there was something poisonous that could help the Fat Silkworm grow, it would have an immediate effect.

The Fat Silkworm was already showing signs of strain.

Qin Sang made his decision, changed direction, and quickened his pace. The Fat Silkworm immediately became excited.

With no fierce beasts to disturb them, Qin Sang moved faster and faster, dashing through the spacious rift. The Fat Silkworm's body was tense, fully concentrating on maintaining the Poison-Dispelling Armor, both for Qin Sang and for itself.
