Chapter 749: Purple Mist Death Abyss

Everyone then set off, heading upstream along the Purple River.

As they got closer to the Purple Mist Forbidden Zone, they could even vaguely discern purple light shimmering deep within the dark jungle.

At that moment, Xiang Yi, who was leading the group, suddenly waved his hand vigorously and gazed solemnly at the Purple River.

The others were startled and collectively halted.

The next moment, a huge splash erupted in the center of the river, and a dark shadow leaped out of the water. Before they could clearly see its form, it vanished right before their eyes.

"Oh no!""Quick, dodge!"

The group cried out in alarm and scattered instantly.

A red light flickered around Qin Sang. He was about to activate a secret talisman to retreat rapidly when he suddenly had an ominous premonition. Without hesitation, he slapped the corpse puppet bag at his waist, and the Flying Yaksha appeared.

*Bang!*A muffled thud.

The Flying Yaksha was actually knocked flying directly, slamming hard into a tree.

Its malevolent aura dispersed, and its chest was deeply caved in. Fortunately, the Flying Yaksha's physical body was robust, preventing it from being torn apart by this blow.

If it had been anyone else present, taking that hit head-on would likely have had a much worse outcome.

After the Flying Yaksha was sent flying, the creature finally revealed its form: a strange fish. This peculiar fish resembled an alligator in shape, but its limbs and tail appeared to be pieced together from various demonic beasts, giving it an exceptionally ferocious appearance.

Qin Sang seized the opportunity to flash away, moving to the Flying Yaksha's side to check its injuries. He discovered that the Flying Yaksha's chest had been pierced through.

Cui Ji looked over, gloating.

However, since the blow wasn't to a vital spot, the wound, though horrific in appearance, had little actual impact on the Flying Yaksha. It could quickly recover by absorbing Earth Fiend energy.

Whenever Qin Sang encountered danger, his first reaction was to either flee or use the Ebony Sword or the Flying Yaksha. The creatures in this jungle were unlike anything he had seen before, possessing very strange abilities. Even with his Golden Radiance Armor, he didn't want them to lay a hand on him.

Against this strange fish living in the Purple River, his sachet proved ineffective.

He was frustrated. The reason this creature chose to ambush him was simple: among the eight people, only he and Lady Liu had the lowest cultivation. Lady Liu, however, had close protection, making it obvious who would be targeted for an ambush.

Xiang Yi frowned, staring at the strange fish. Suddenly, something clicked in his mind. "No! A Purple River Alligator! Kill it quickly!"

The group was startled. Though they didn't know the reason, seeing Xiang Yi's anxious expression, they dared not delay and promptly conjured their magic treasures.

In an instant, beams of multicolored treasure light blasted towards the same target.

Qin Sang was not to be outdone. He unleashed Sword Qi Thunder Sound, seeking revenge for the Flying Yaksha.

The Purple River Alligator turned and fled. Despite its bulky body, it moved with exceptional agility. As it escaped, it opened its large mouth and let out a piercing shriek.

The shriek was sharp, penetrating their eardrums.

Just as it cried out, the Purple River Alligator was struck by the Ebony Sword, immediately followed by two more attacks from magic treasures. The treasures hit the Purple River Alligator one after another, but failed to kill it, allowing its shriek to propagate.

As the group prepared to conjure their magic treasures again to continue the attack, Xiang Yi stopped them.

He was staring intently into the depths of the jungle, letting the Purple River Alligator escape back into the river. Under the bewildered gazes of the others, he growled, "The Purple River Alligator's cry can summon nearby fierce beasts. Quick! Into the Purple Mist Forbidden Zone!"

Before he had even finished speaking, everyone sensed something amiss in the depths of the jungle.

Strange cries became more frantic than before, and countless dark figures were rapidly approaching their location.

Seeing this, the group felt their scalps tingle. Without needing Xiang Yi's urging, they immediately put away their magic treasures and followed him, fleeing for their lives.

This instantly revealed the disparity in their escape techniques.

Qin Sang, using only the Nine-Dragon Celestial Carriage Talisman, was able to keep pace with Xiang Yi, who had the fastest escape speed, drawing glances from everyone present.

Closely behind them were the Liu couple and the sword-carrying youth. The youth had independently comprehended Sword Qi Thunder Sound; he had been observing Qin Sang for quite some time when Qin Sang activated the Ebony Sword earlier.

Following them were Cui Ji, the plump man in fine clothes, and the cultivator surnamed Pan. The three were similar in speed and lagged behind, with the Pan-surnamed cultivator appearing the most relaxed, as if he hadn't exerted his full strength.

Behind them, fierce beasts swarmed.

The group fled in disarray. Fortunately, they were not far from the Purple Mist Forbidden Zone, and soon they saw an endless expanse of purple mist ahead.

The purple mist obscured the sky and the sun, enveloping the entire jungle.

Upon reaching this point, they detected a fragrant aroma, immediately followed by a stinging sensation on their skin.

They were being corroded even before entering, so they hastily activated their true essence to protect themselves.

The fierce beasts drew closer, stampeding through the jungle with astonishing momentum, like muffled thunder.

As Xiang Yi landed, he quickly retrieved a lotus-shaped wonder-treasure from his mustard seed bag. Upon closer inspection, it was clear that this was no true lotus, but rather something carved from a type of bone, emanating a pale luster.

The lotus wonder-treasure was currently closed.

True essence was poured into it. The lotus slowly bloomed, eventually reaching palm-size. All its petals glowed, radiating brilliance, and these lights ultimately converged to form a massive protective shield.

When the purple mist touched the shield, it recoiled, thereby creating a safe zone more than spacious enough for all eight of them.

"Come in!"

Xiang Yi beckoned.

The group moved closer and deactivated their protective true essence, finding that their skin no longer stung. This treasure indeed could resist the poisonous mist.

Sheltered by the lotus wonder-treasure, they swiftly entered the Purple Mist Forbidden Zone.

Holding their breath and listening intently, it wasn't long before the thundering sounds from behind ceased. Fierce beasts howled strangely outside, but dared not rush in.

"That was my oversight."

Xiang Yi explained, "Purple River Alligators are very rare. I thought with so many of us, they wouldn't dare show themselves... Fortunately, Daoist Master Qingfeng's divine ability is exceptional."

Cui Ji remarked sarcastically, "That demonic Daoist relied on this Yaksha for show twenty years ago, and he still hasn't made any progress."

The cultivator surnamed Liu shook his head, saying, "You can't say that. I believe Daoist Master Qingfeng's Yaksha is extraordinary. Its physical body is extremely robust; that blow should have only been a superficial injury. Even I, in the mid-stage, wouldn't easily defeat it. What's most impressive about the Daoist Master is his escape technique, which I can't hope to match. I hope to have an opportunity to spar in the future."

Xiang Yi also nodded in agreement. "It looks like a magic treasure condensed from a dragon soul, yet it also resembles the power of a spiritual talisman. How strange..."

"My escape technique is merely a minor skill, I'm afraid I've made you all laugh."

Qin Sang said indifferently, naturally unwilling to reveal the details of his Nine-Dragon Celestial Carriage Talisman.

They found it inappropriate to pry into others' secrets and, seeing his demeanor, ceased asking further questions.

Cui Ji was secretly annoyed but didn't say much more.

The beasts outside gradually dispersed.

The group surveyed their surroundings.

The ancient trees within the Purple Mist Forbidden Zone were noticeably sparser, and their bark had turned purple due to the influence of the mist.

Seeing this scene, Qin Sang suddenly lowered his gaze to the lotus in Xiang Yi's hand. Pointing to one of its petals, he asked, puzzled, "Daoist Friend Xiang, will this wonder-treasure also be tainted by the purple mist?"

Everyone looked closely and indeed noticed that the petal, which had originally been pure pale white, now had an uncanny reddish-pink tint.
