Chapter 636: Meng Yao Yin Takes Action

The siege battle for White Paper Immortal City had reached a critical juncture.

Due to the appearance of Mournful Spirit You Ling, the South Gate was thrown wide open. What was once a flawless city defense now had a massive breach, completely altering the dynamics of the entire battlefield.

Undoubtedly, the struggle for the South Gate became the crucial point of this offensive and defensive battle.

If the Ghost Soldier army managed to breach the South Gate and secure a foothold in White Paper Immortal City, then Lord Wangchuan would almost certainly achieve victory.

However, if White Paper Immortal City fought back fiercely, expelling the Ghost Soldier army and reclaiming the South Gate in a short time, then the battle would revert to its previous siege phase, with much fighting still to come.

"We have the upper hand!" Xie Sichao exclaimed, his expression agitated as he intently watched the battle at the South Gate from behind the Ghost Soldier army, beside Luo Si.

Mournful Spirit You Ling's 'Candle of Returning Tranquility' further shifted the tide of battle.

She had teleported in three Bone Golems. Although one had been crushed by Ning Zhuo, two of these massive creatures still remained.

Their bones were thick and their defenses astonishing, making them incredibly difficult to deal with in a short period.

Meanwhile, the Paper Golem, which could threaten them, was now thrashing on the ground, its interior constantly assaulted by two Golden Core-level Ghost Generals, trapped in a state of internal and external turmoil.

The battle between Yang San'an and Bone Tomb Daoist had reached a fever pitch.

Surprisingly, Bone Tomb Daoist held the upper hand.

He created countless clones, surrounding Yang San'an, and provocatively taunted: "Brother Yang, where is your talent? Show it to me now!"

"I love seeing you so arrogant and disdainful of others."

"Hehehe, why aren't you using it now?"

"Can't you find my true body? Or has your eyesight been depleted, and further abuse will risk blindness?"

Yang San'an snorted coldly, focusing solely on fighting.

Wen Ruanyu and Zhou Wenyan, severely wounded and unconscious, were protected by Yang San'an from fatal blows.

Elsewhere, Tie Gu Zheng, with a resolute stance, charged towards Mournful Spirit You Ling!

"Former comrade-in-arms, I never expected us to cross swords!"

"Even though you are controlled, there's no other way."

Tie Gu Zheng unleashed his full power, iron fans swirling around him, intending to deliver a fatal blow to Mournful Spirit You Ling from the outset.

The four Ghost Generals – Venomous, Shadow, Mourner, and Stone Demon – had already retreated to surround Mournful Spirit You Ling, guarding against any possible assassination attempts.

Tie Gu Zheng's hair and beard bristled, his muscles coiling like iron pythons, as he wielded his iron fans, which blurred into a dark light, blocking numerous attacks.

He closed the distance between himself and Mournful Spirit You Ling.

"Heh, nice try!" the Venomous Ghost General sneered, confronting him first.

He suddenly spread his arms, spewing dark green poisonous miasma from his seven orifices.

The swirling miasma, like a living entity, instantly wove itself into a sticky, foul-smelling wall of corrosive mist directly in front.

The fierce winds carried by the iron fans crashed into the miasma wall, as if plunging into deep-sea quicksand. Their sharp edges were eroded and worn down layer by layer.

Sizzling sounds emanated...

The iron fans also emitted a grating, teeth-aching sound.

Tie Gu Zheng secretly cursed, quickly pulling back his iron fans, only to see that in just a few breaths, the fan surfaces were already corroded with mottled spots by the poisonous miasma.

Tie Gu Zheng's offensive was blocked. He glanced at the corrosive miasma wall, whose true nature was obscure, and suppressed the urge to charge directly through it.

In a normal confrontation, he would have ample time to employ various methods for reconnaissance.

Once he understood the intricacies of this move, Tie Gu Zheng would have more confidence in dealing with it.

But now, that was absolutely out of the question.

The military situation was urgent, like fire, and opportunities were fleeting. He had to fight with all his might, but also couldn't take excessive risks.

Tie Gu Zheng was well aware that as the commander of the City Guard Army, he was one of the core defenses of White Paper Immortal City. If anything happened to him,

it would have an extremely negative impact on the entire battle.

He had no choice but to retreat and then try to circumvent the miasma wall.

At that moment, a distorted black shadow silently swept to his feet.

It was the Shadow Ghost General!

Soul-Binding Ropes.

Two ropes shot out, like two cold, slick venomous snakes striking.

Tie Gu Zheng noticed in time and made a dodging movement.

However, the Soul-Binding Ropes didn't attack Tie Gu Zheng's body, but the shadows of his legs!

Hit by the attack, Tie Gu Zheng immediately felt a chilling, sluggish sensation emanating from his calves, rapidly spreading throughout his body.

He felt as if he had plunged into a freezing quagmire, his movements slowing by more than a beat.

"Damn it!" Tie Gu Zheng's heart sank.

After just one round of confrontation, he fully realized that these Golden Core-level Ghost Generals were all military elites. Under normal circumstances, in a one-on-one fight, Tie Gu Zheng would have the upper hand.

But now, each Golden Core Ghost General was bolstered by military power, their combat strength boosted to just below the Nascent Soul level.

This surpassed Tie Gu Zheng's capabilities.

Even worse, Tie Gu Zheng had to face four opponents, break through their encirclement, just to attack Mournful Spirit You Ling.

This was an almost impossible task!

Luo Si's face was stern as he watched the magical projection before him. The image showed Tie Gu Zheng struggling fiercely, trying to break through numerous obstacles to kill Mournful Spirit You Ling.

The enemy commander was bogged down, and the situation was highly favorable, yet not a hint of joy appeared on Luo Si's face.

He was experienced and composed, his attention covering the entire battlefield.

Suddenly, his pupils shifted slightly, looking towards a squad of bull cavalry within the army.

Sun Lingtong, leading this cavalry squad, was currently at the forefront, shouting loudly: "Clear the way, clear the way! We're going to break into the Immortal City and achieve great merits!"

Sun Lingtong was burning with impatience.

He saw the South Gate in peril, the Paper Golem deployed, and someone's life hanging by a thread, indicating Ning Zhuo needed help.

Therefore, even if this action was a bit out of line, he couldn't care less at that moment.

Instead of directly breaching the South Gate, Sun Lingtong led his team into the Winding Path.

This was the Bone Golem's route, allowing direct teleportation into the Immortal City.

Sun Lingtong directly cut in line, leading his subordinates and rushing in ahead of a Bone Golem, successfully entering White Paper Immortal City as he wished.

"That fellow!"

"They're disrupting military discipline!"

"Whose subordinate is that, anyway?"

The Ghost Soldier army maintained strict discipline, and Sun Lingtong's action caused many negative impacts on their order.

Immediately, reports were made, and some wanted to hold Sun Lingtong accountable. These reports were presented to Luo Si.

Xie Sichao subtly glanced at Luo Si.

Luo Si remained expressionless. He did not stop Sun Lingtong; instead, he ordered: "Bone Golems, halt your entry! Headless Ghost Cavalry, advance into the city at full speed!"

At the same time, he commanded his subordinates to continue their furious assault on the South Gate. The Bone Golems were to forego the Winding Path and continue attacking the South City Wall.

Tie Gu Zheng charged left and right, but was easily intercepted by the four Golden Core Ghost Generals, who attacked him in rotation.

In fact, Tie Gu Zheng was even forced to retreat by the Ghost Generals' counterattacks.

This only increased the distance between him and Mournful Spirit You Ling.

"Commander, the city wall is in distress!" The Commander's Seal vibrated slightly, conveying a plea for help from his subordinate.

Tie Gu Zheng nearly ground his steel teeth to dust.

"Damn it!"

He found it difficult to break through the guard of the four Ghost Generals, and Luo Si's direct pressure caused him to neglect one area while focusing on another.

He knew he had to eliminate Mournful Spirit You Ling, otherwise, the situation would completely collapse. But his combat strength was insufficient, and he had no time.

He had to rush back to hold the line. Otherwise, if the South City Wall fell, the Ghost Soldier army would launch a full-scale assault, and Mournful Spirit You Ling's Winding Path teleportation would lose its strategic value—there would be no need for teleportation with such a wide offensive front allowing a large number of Ghost Soldiers to advance simultaneously!

"Tie Gu Zheng, go defend the South Wall!" At this critical moment, a white paper figure flew through the air.

Tie Gu Zheng's face immediately showed excitement: "Lord City Master!"

The newcomer was not the City Master's main body, but her paper clone.

The situation at the South Gate was extremely perilous, and the paper clone had no choice but to come and suppress it.

As soon as she moved, it immediately triggered a fierce reaction.

"Look quickly, the City Master's clone has moved!"

"Lord Luo Si, I request to join the battle!"

"Let me fight! If we kill that woman, the morale of White Paper Immortal City will plummet, and it might even draw out her main body."

Inside Luo Si's tent, the generals were agitated.

But Luo Si remained calm. He disallowed all requests to fight, continuously dispatching more Headless Ghost Cavalry instead.

This left many generals disgruntled.

The Headless Ghost Cavalry traversed the Winding Path, entering White Paper Immortal City. They moved in swarms, like attacking sharks, assailing everywhere and causing rampant destruction.

The City Master's paper clone let out an angry snort. Her large white gown spun without wind, and the dense dark runes on its hem lit up in succession, sending out visible layers of frosty white ripples.

The next moment, icy cold energy transformed into massive waves of ice that swept in all directions, instantly covering the ground with ghastly white ice crystals.

Hundreds of Ghost Cavalrymen were directly frozen within the ice crystals, sealed instantly.

The paper clone's long hair fluttered, thousands of chilling bright rays emanating from its tips.

A series of dense, light sounds, like heavy rain on banana leaves, merged into a chorus of fading echoes.

The bright rays shot forth, instantly piercing through the Headless Ghost Cavalry, along with their skeletal warhorses, causing them all to collapse to the ground.

In an instant, a section of the battlefield was cleared.

Witnessing this scene, the generals around Luo Si changed expressions. Their previous excitement to fight, their bloodlust, and their dissatisfaction and indignation at being refused, all quickly faded.

Some subtly stole glances at Luo Si, who remained seated, unmoving, with a cold expression.

The City Master's paper clone let out a sigh of frustration.

Although her battle achievements were formidable, the Headless Ghost Cavalry kept coming like an endless tide; for every one she killed, another was replenished.

"We must first destroy the Winding Path, which means eliminating Xiao Le!" the paper clone declared, setting her sights on Mournful Spirit You Ling.

The latter remained motionless, her expression numb, standing in place with the 'Candle of Returning Tranquility' in hand.

The four Golden Core Ghost Generals beside her, however, were on high alert, facing a formidable enemy.

It was clear that the City Master's clone possessed far greater combat power than Tie Gu Zheng, and had to be treated with extreme caution.

"We're here!"

"Kill them all!"

"Xiao Ma, I'm here, I'm here!"

Qing Chi's shouts could be heard at this moment.

Closely following her was the recently established Azure Scorcher Army.

It turned out that when the South Gate faced danger, Qing Chi had received an order from Tie Gu Zheng.

The latter commanded Qing Chi to immediately lead the Azure Scorcher Army to join the battle!

Qing Chi, already impatient from waiting, immediately ordered the entire army to rally their warhorses, quickly mount their steeds, and, after assembling, charge out like tigers.

Halfway there, she saw the Paper Golem unleash its power and instantly exclaimed in her heart: "Xiao Ma, it must be Xiao Ma controlling the Golem!"

Both publicly and privately, this ignited a burning battle intent in Qing Chi.

She charged at the very front, leading the way, her entire body wreathed in azure flames, exuding an unparalleled aura.

Closely following behind her was her father, Qing Yan, a Golden Core-level cultivator. Qing Yan was currently holding aloft a battle banner.

It was a bone battle banner, with a cluster of green flames burning at the top of its pole. The banner's surface was almost transparent, like dead skin, and bore the large characters 'Azure Scorcher'.

It was indeed the military artifact, the Bone Blade Battle Banner.

Furthermore, the entire Azure Scorcher Army was mounted on horses, and these mounts were also unusual: they were military artifacts known as Black Blood Paper Horses.

Batch after batch of these warhorses were exceptionally tall and gaunt. In their chests, a ghastly green ghost flame, the size of a human head, burned fiercely. Their eyes were pitch black, hollow and lifeless.

All members of the Azure Scorcher Army wore armor. Some wielded crescent broadswords, while others carried sky-cleaving spears.

Boom, boom, boom...

The two cavalry forces clashed on the plaza behind the South Gate.

Qing Chi, serving as the spearhead, possessed terrifying power, shattering the enemy cavalry's formation. The subsequent Azure Scorcher Army, each soldier filled with soaring morale and fearless of death, directly routed the Headless Ghost Cavalry!

The Azure Scorcher Army was equipped with military artifacts and possessed luxurious gear, but crucially, their charge added a massive bonus to their assault.

In contrast, the Headless Ghost Cavalry had only recently teleported out of the Winding Path, and hadn't had enough distance to build up their own charge.

As the two armies engaged, the Headless Ghost Cavalry were sent sprawling, riders and horses tumbling over each other.

"Good!" The paper clone felt greatly relieved at this sight.

Just this single engagement made her feel that her efforts in cultivating the Azure Scorcher Army had been worthwhile.

She focused intently, charging towards Mournful Spirit You Ling!

The Venomous Ghost General repeated his old trick, spewing forth another dark green miasma wall.

The paper clone rippled out frosty white waves, directly freezing the miasma wall, solidifying it into countless dark green ice crystals that fell to the ground.

Layers of frost also immediately appeared on the Venomous Ghost General's body.

He recoiled in horror.

The Shadow Ghost General, lurking in the ground's shadows, threw out his Soul-Binding Ropes, which made contact with the paper clone's ground projection.

With a snapping sound, the Soul-Binding Ropes burst into large plumes of black smoke.

The Shadow Ghost General let out a sharp shriek, his form twisting as he fled in disarray.

The Mourner Ghost vehemently shook his bone flute, emitting a mournful sonic attack.

The paper clone remained expressionless; the sonic attack was like a mud ox entering the sea, having no effect whatsoever.

The Stone Demon General blocked her path. He was burly, his arms crossed, and ferociously smashed towards the paper clone.

The paper clone's charge was finally checked at this point.

But soon, as she continued her assault, the Stone Demon Ghost General stumbled back, repeatedly crying out: "Help, quick, help!"

The paper clone's combat power was immense, driving the four Golden Core Ghost Generals into utter disarray.

"The situation is wrong!"

"We must send reinforcements!"

"Luo Si, what are you hesitating for?"

Inside Luo Si's tent, the generals could no longer sit still, once again requesting to join the battle.

Among them, the vanguard general was the most resolute, speaking with fiery words.

Luo Si gazed deeply at him, then scanned the surroundings. He waved his hand: "If you want to go, then all of you go. I won't stop you."

"Wise choice!" the vanguard general, who had his own influential background and never respected Luo Si, retorted. He knew the latter had been placed in charge to take the fall.

Inside the Paper Golem.

After surveying her surroundings, Buddhist Physician Meng Yao-yin's gaze settled on Ning Zhuo: "Xiao Zhuo, you actually made it here."

"You're only in the Foundation Establishment stage, and you came to White Paper Immortal City?"

"Mother! You're finally awake." Ning Zhuo's eyes reddened with excitement. "I also stumbled upon this place by accident, and I know of your arrangements. This time, I will do my best to try and sabotage Lord Wangchuan's schemes!"

"Good child, you've grown up." Buddhist Physician Meng Yao-yin reached out and gently stroked Ning Zhuo's head.

"Hahaha, this is the core!" The Long Axe Ghost General broke through the formation space and charged in.

The Scarlet Ghost General followed closely behind.

The Long Axe Ghost General spotted Ning Zhuo and was instantly ecstatic: "The one controlling the Golem is merely a Foundation Establishment cultivator! Die!"

"Hm?" The long-handled scythe in Buddhist Physician Meng Yao-yin's hand stirred slightly.

The Long Axe Ghost General's head fell to the ground.

Killed in action!
