Breaking the Formation Battle (Part 2)
“I didn’t expect the Mulan people to be so cautious. Although we eliminated those spellcasters, it seems we barely scratched their surface. Now, we’ll have to face them head-on. Brother Ma, you just used the Heaven Concealing Flag to cover half the mountaintop. Is your magic power still holding up?” The bald-browed man sighed softly, then asked the old man with concern.
“I deliberately conserved some magic power. It might not be enough to defeat the enemy, but holding down a Mulan Grand Shaman won’t be a problem,” the old man stroked his beard and said nonchalantly.
“That’s good. The remaining enemies will be dealt with by me and Fellow Daoist Han. Fellow Daoist Bo should also have recovered some of his vitality. I’ve already instructed my subordinate cultivators to call out Brother Bo, who is recuperating, if the situation becomes critical,” the bald-browed man said gravely.
“That’s all we can do. It’s just that giant beast might be a bit tricky; none of us can afford to be distracted. Core Formation cultivators probably can’t handle it,” the old man, sensing the colossal beast outside the formation with his divine sense, showed a hint of hesitation.
“Sigh! There’s nothing we can do about it. After all, we’re short on manpower. We can only let the Murong brothers use the formation restrictions to contain it for a bit. Their lightning-attribute cultivation method is the most powerful among Core Formation cultivators. Even if the beast is tough-skinned, it should have some effect, right?” The big man himself sounded a little uncertain. After all, both of them had heard about the beast’s terrifying nature from the retreating cultivators.
“We can only try that for now,” the old man nodded, somewhat worriedly, accepting the idea.
Just then, a flash of blue light appeared in the green mist, and a streak of dazzling light shot out from it. After a brief circling, it seemed to spot the two men and flew towards them.
“Fellow Daoists, it seems the Mulan people are truly about to attack. Have you made all the arrangements for defending against them?” With a convergence of green light, Han Li’s figure appeared, and he smiled at the two and spoke.
“Brother Han, you’ve come at just the right time. We just discussed and are preparing…” The bald-browed man, with a smile on his face, repeated what he had just said.
“The giant beast! That thing is indeed a bit tricky; it’s an ancient exotic species. I wonder where the Mulan people found it. Everything will be as Fellow Daoist Lu said,” Han Li frowned at first, then quickly relaxed as he spoke.
“This struggle will rely heavily on Brother Han’s divine abilities,” the bald-browed man chuckled, speaking with a hint of respect.
“This concerns the safety of the entire Tiannan. I, Han, will naturally do my best. But I’m afraid the enemy is too strong. My spirit is willing, but my flesh is weak!” Han Li said calmly after hearing this and rubbing his nose.
Since he had revealed his strength, Han Li was no longer being modest.
“If even Brother Han is not their match, then it’s not our fault. I’m sure others in the Alliance won’t say anything either,” the old man surnamed Ma said with a bright smile, complimenting him.
“Brother Ma thinks too highly of me, Han. My divine abilities are not as profound as you two imagine. Don’t expect too much,” Han Li glanced at the old man, a half-smile playing on his lips.
“Hehe. Regardless, Brother Han is no ordinary early-stage cultivator. Your divine abilities are far beyond what Fellow Daoist Ma and I can compare to. This great battle… Eh? The Mulan people are beginning their attack!” The bald-browed man also wanted to establish more connections with Han Li, but he suddenly changed his tone mid-sentence, his expression shifting, and quickly looked into the distance.
Han Li and the old man, hearing this, watched with a change in expression.
They saw red light faintly illuminating in the direction of the spellcaster army, and a fiery cloud-like red glow spread across the distant sky. Within the red cloud, dozens of giant, sun-like fireballs were forming and condensing.
“What is this?” The old man surnamed Ma, clearly seeing this sight for the first time, asked in stunned surprise.
“This is a spellcaster’s spirit art formation. Many spellcasters can substitute for formation flags and plates to quickly form a spirit array. However, it usually requires a high-level spellcaster to preside over the grand formation. Seeing how enormous these fireballs are, it’s probably the fire-attribute spellcaster from yesterday who is presiding over it,” the bald-browed man explained with a gloomy expression.
“Spirit art formation!” the old man surnamed Ma murmured, still looking somewhat astonished. Although he wanted to ask for more details, he knew it wasn’t the right time and so he closed his mouth.
“Let’s three of us enter the formation and act according to the situation. Before engaging the enemy Nascent Soul cultivators, the more low-level spellcasters we can eliminate, the better,” Han Li said, retracting his gaze, his expression unchanged.
“Good!”
The old man and the big man naturally had no objections.
So, the bald-browed man called over several other Core Formation cultivators, gave them instructions one by one, and then led them into the sea of mist, with Ying Ning among them.
Han Li naturally secretly gave them a few whispered instructions.
Then, Han Li’s figure vanished into the mist.
At this moment, outside the sea of mist, some Mulan spellcasters were divided into dozens of small teams, forming profound and mystical formations. They held shimmering red fire-attribute magic tools, raised above their heads, and were casting spells to gather nearby fire-attribute spiritual energy.
A hundred feet above their heads, dozens of giant fireballs were swirling into shape, emitting scorching high temperatures that made the spellcasters below them parched, their ears ringing, and their vision blurry. But each of them was sweating profusely, struggling to hold on.
In the center of these dozens of spirit art formations, Ku Yao sat cross-legged, disheveled, unmoving, with both hands forming strange incantations. Six massive red banners slowly rotated around him. The ten-foot-long fire python circled and danced above his head, its body glowing with extreme red light, stirring up continuous rolling fire clouds.
Not far from him, on the other side, the green-robed woman had, at some point, descended from the giant beast and was coldly observing Ku Yao’s every move. Half a step behind her, the tall, thin spellcaster also watched the unfolding situation with extreme concern.
“Go!” Ku Yao suddenly opened his eyes wide and roared.
The six fire banners simultaneously hummed loudly, and six crimson light pillars shot diagonally from the banners, accurately entering the six giant fireballs, each over ten feet in size, that had already formed in the sky.
Immediately upon absorbing these crimson light pillars, all six fireballs trembled, and then the flames on their surfaces suddenly leaped over ten feet high. Then, amidst the rumbling war drums, these fireballs, like colossal meteors, crashed into the sea of mist in a straight line, as if to forcibly carve out a passage.
The power of the fireballs condensed by so many spellcasters working together was truly extraordinary.
Even the Misty Sea restrictions of Fire Dragon Mountain, meticulously arranged by the formation masters of the Nine Nations Alliance, still produced several earth-shattering roars as the fireballs contacted the green mist. Several fire pillars, dozens of feet high, rose through the mist one after another. A blast of hot wind swept through, and the nearby mist was instantly cleared.
Although golden and green restriction lights also illuminated around, they were like a mantis trying to stop a chariot, utterly unable to hinder them in the slightest.
In a blink of an eye, looking down from the sky, a section of the Misty Sea now featured six large circles, arranged in a row, where the mist had completely vanished, leaving them utterly empty.
A cold glint flashed in the green-robed woman’s eyes. With a flip of her delicate hand, a golden-yellow ring materialized in her palm.
With a flick of her hand, the ring transformed into a golden streak of light, shooting towards the giant rhino beast that was already standing at the edge of the Misty Sea.
With a clear cry, the golden ring precisely settled onto the rhino’s blue single horn.
Then, it suddenly tightened, taking root at the base of the giant horn, its golden light blinding.
Whether it was stimulated by the golden light or if the green-robed woman had performed some other trick, the rhino’s emerald eyes suddenly turned blood-red. A thunderous roar erupted from its mouth, and it stomped its blue cloud-like feet, its massive body charging wildly into the sea of mist.
Moments later, beast roars filled the misty sea, and golden and green lights flared up.
“Go in. Grand Shaman Ku will continue to destroy the restrictions below with fire spirit arts. In today’s battle, we must break this formation in one go,” the green-robed woman’s clear, cold voice resounded across the sky. The spellcaster army, who had been waiting for a long time, cheered, then groups of ten or so, or five or six, rushed into the green mist.
“Let’s go too. Grand Shaman Ku will follow once he’s finished casting,” the green-robed woman said faintly. White light flickered around her body, transforming into a white rainbow that shot out.
The tall, thin spellcaster quickly responded, transforming into a black light and following closely behind.
A moment later, only the hundreds of spellcasters forming the array remained in front of the sea of mist.
At this moment, the remaining fireballs in the sky, guided by Ku Yao’s six fire banners, fell one by one into the sea of mist, all aligning with the initial six. After dozens of fire pillars shot into the sky, the restrictions along that line were directly destroyed by seventy to eighty percent.
After a few wild laughs, Ku Yao suddenly stood up with a whoosh. He gestured to the surrounding cultivators, then, without another word, transformed into a ball of raging fire and rushed into the sea of mist.
Seeing this, the other spellcasters forming the array also swarmed forward.
In an instant, over a thousand spellcasters crowded into the sea of mist, not to mention the hundreds of other cultivators secretly manipulating restrictions, waiting for an opportunity.
Han Li floated motionless in a certain part of the sea of mist, his eyes lightly closed. He was already clad in his three-colored Gold Devouring Beetle armor, and a large green sword was under his feet. Above his head, another ten-foot-wide, golden insect cloud remained silent, but the insects within it were ferocious and malevolent, their eyes glowing with fierce intent, ready to devour anyone.
Han Li’s eyelids twitched a few times, then he slowly opened his eyes, a hint of surprise on his face.
“There really is a mid-stage Nascent Soul spellcaster inside, but why is it a female spellcaster?” Han Li muttered to himself. Then, after thinking for a moment, he slapped his storage bag, and with a flash of light, a set of array tools appeared in his hand.
Han Li’s figure flickered, and in a short while, he had set up one of the most powerful temporary formations from his array tools.
“Silvermoon, come out,” Han Li commanded. With a flick of his other sleeve, a small fox shot out from his cuff and landed in front of him.
“I’ll leave this Violet Gilt Cloak to you. Also, take the flower basket ancient treasure. This opponent might be a bit trickier than Senior Sister Wan’er. Be extra careful! If their divine abilities are truly formidable, there’s no need to fight head-on. Lure them here and use the Misty Sea restrictions and the formation I’ve set up to contend with them further. If it still doesn’t work, then so be it. We’ll withdraw. There’s no need to fight to the death with them,” Han Li instructed, his expression unchanged.
Then, with a flip of his hand, the “Violet Gilt Cloak” and the flower basket ancient treasure appeared in his hands and he threw them directly to the small fox.
