A cold light flashed in Han Li's eyes. His hands, controlling the golden arcs of electricity, suddenly trembled. Golden light burst forth, and the electrical net exploded.
Countless arcs of electricity leaped and shot out, and a net of lightning, three-tenths denser than the original, suddenly appeared. It then rapidly contracted in an instant.
As a result, when the black threads shot out, they naturally collided with the golden arcs.
A loud crackling sound erupted. Under the powerful assault of the golden arcs, the black threads transformed into countless wisps of black smoke rising within the net, accompanied by intermittent screams and wails that were extremely shrill.
The black threads then fearfully retreated back into the center of the golden net, coalescing into a jet-black, oily, demonic infant with a face full of terror and dread. It then opened its mouth, spitting out streams of dark, murky qi that rapidly enveloped it layer after layer, desperately trying to resist the already close-range Spirit-Purifying Divine Lightning.
Han Li's expression was indifferent, a hint of mockery flashed across his lips. The golden arcs spraying from his hands suddenly thickened by three-tenths. The electric arcs were dazzlingly bright, making it difficult to look directly at them.
The screams from within the electrical light resumed, then gradually diminished amidst the colossal thunder, becoming silent moments later.
Seeing this, Han Li breathed a sigh of relief. With a sweep and contraction of the golden arcs in his hand, a dark storage pouch, enveloped by the arcs, appeared in his grasp.
He then looked up at the sky, his expressionless figure swaying slightly. As the azure spiritual light resurfaced, he transformed into a streak of azure rainbow and shot back.
From the few words exchanged between Han Li and the black-robed figure to Han Li unleashing the Spirit-Purifying Divine Lightning to eliminate his opponent, the entire process took but an instant.
Not only were the bald-browed man and Elder Ma-surname below dumbfounded, but even the tall, thin spellcaster and Ku Yao, the two Great Mulan Grandmasters above, stared blankly, still unable to believe what had just transpired.
It should be known that while the cultivators of Tiannan didn't know the black-robed figures' true background, these two had a fairly good understanding of it.
These mysterious cultivators came from a vast empire on the other side of the Mulan Grassland. Although they didn't know why they suddenly came to the Mulan Grassland and what conditions they had agreed upon with the Divine Masters of the three great Mulan tribes, they were nonetheless providing assistance.
However, there was no doubt that these individuals, in terms of both cultivation techniques and divine abilities, far surpassed cultivators of the same rank in the Tiannan cultivation world.
Before the true battle had even begun, two Tiannan Nascent Soul cultivators had already been eliminated by them. This left the two Mulan Grandmasters quite convinced of the black-robed figures' prowess.
The reason the black-robed figure was allowed to participate in this second battle was that they felt there were too many Nascent Soul cultivators guarding this restrictive grand formation. It was best to surprise them by eliminating or severely injuring one first.
But who would have known? A seemingly ordinary-looking young man emerged from the opposing side and swiftly eliminated the black-robed cultivator, not even allowing his Nascent Soul to escape. How could this not shock the two of them greatly!
The tall, thin spellcaster and Ku Yao finally came to their senses. After exchanging a horrified glance, hesitation appeared on their faces. They were unsure whether to continue sending individuals to challenge or simply command the spellcasters behind them to charge en masse.
Just then, a few faint, almost inaudible words suddenly reached their ears.
"Our momentum has been blunted today, so let's retreat for now. We'll return tomorrow. By then, this formation might already be... hehe! As for the matter of Tianku's death, it might be a bit troublesome, but I will explain it to the Divine Masters myself." The voice, male or female unknown, subtly carried a tone of command.
Upon hearing these words, the tall, thin spellcaster and Ku Yao, though startled, immediately acted as instructed without a word, turning to loudly command the spellcasters behind them.
After a brief commotion among the spellcasters behind them, no one raised an objection. The front ranks became the rear, and they slowly retreated.
The two Grandmasters naturally guarded the rear. Before flying off, they cast gloomy glances at the cultivators, especially glaring fiercely at Han Li, before turning and departing.
"Should we pursue them?" Gu Shuangpu asked, looking at the retreating army of spellcasters, a hint of uncertainty in his voice.
"No, let's not. Although the Mulan people have retreated, they haven't been defeated. If the few of us charge forward, we might inadvertently get trapped. It's better to rely on the grand formation and wait for them at our leisure. Our Yellow Dragon Mountain's Thousand Sound Transformation Array is not so easily broken. Even if the Mulan people manage to take it, they wouldn't do so without losing more than half of these spellcasters. That's simply a pipe dream," the bald-browed man said, shaking his head after a slight pause for thought.
As he spoke, he couldn't help but turn his head and glance at Han Li, who was standing beside him.
Because Han Li's act of eliminating the black-robed figure was so unexpected to all the cultivators, when Han Li flew back, an awkward silence fell among them, and no one knew what to say.
Now, as the large man looked over, Han Li's expression was as calm as ever. He simply put away the black storage pouch he had been idly toying with and gave the group a faint smile.
Previously, Han Li's smile would have seemed unremarkable to others. But now, after witnessing him personally eliminate a Nascent Soul cultivator, seeing that same smile evoked a strange, unfathomable feeling in everyone simultaneously. Any lingering contempt they had harbored vanished completely.
"This time, Fellow Daoist Han single-handedly eliminated an opposing high-ranking spellcaster. This is truly commendable! I, Lu, will certainly report this matter to the alliance upon my return. Our alliance will definitely reward Fellow Daoist handsomely," the bald-browed man said with a reciprocal smile, offering words of congratulation.
Elder Ma-surname and Gu Shuangpu also reacted then, likewise offering a few words of praise with smiles on their faces. However, their demeanor towards Han Li was subtly different from before. Their words implicitly revealed a sense of awe and respect for Han Li.
Han Li seemed oblivious, courteously exchanging a few pleasantries. However, as he spoke, his gaze subtly lingered on one person for an extra moment, and when no one noticed his expression, a faint, almost imperceptible smirk appeared on his lips.
After the army of spellcasters finally vanished from sight, the bald-browed man performed a hand seal, opening a passage in the mist. The few individuals quickly disappeared into the passage, and the mist closed over the entrance once more.
The vicinity of Yellow Dragon Mountain became quiet once again, leaving only an endless expanse of green mist, silent and motionless.
When Han Li and the others returned to the main hall, there was little to discuss. After a brief discussion about today's battle, everyone took their leave to return to their residences and rest.
Elder Ma-surname, in particular, had not only had his treasure destroyed but also suffered significant loss of vitality. He especially needed to take medicine and meditate to recover his magical power.
In the blink of an eye, the people in the main hall dispersed, leaving only the bald-browed man.
He sat on the main seat, lowering his head, his face thoughtful as he fell into contemplation, wondering what he was thinking.
After a moment, his eyebrows suddenly twitched, and a strange look flashed across his face as he whispered:
"Who's there? Come out."
"Haha! Brother Lu's Dao techniques are indeed profound. I was detected the moment I entered. No wonder the Nine Nations Alliance allows Fellow Daoist to guard this region alone." At the previously empty entrance to the main hall, a flash of light appeared, and a smiling figure revealed itself.
"It's you? Fellow Daoist, why did you conceal your presence and return instead of resting?" the bald-browed man asked with a frown, his expression peculiar.
"Nothing much. I simply discovered a secret and felt it should be discussed with Fellow Daoist."
"A secret? What secret?" The bald-browed man was startled by the words, sizing up the person, a hint of suspicion on his face.
"Fellow Daoist Han of Falling Cloud Sect is very likely a Mulan spy!" the person said without hesitation, slowly walking forward.
"A spy? Fellow Daoist, are you out of your mind? Fellow Daoist Han just eliminated a Nascent Soul spellcaster today. That's utterly ridiculous," the bald-browed man said, his face twitching before he burst into laughter, his expression full of disbelief.
"I knew Brother Lu wouldn't believe it, but I have proof. Fellow Daoist will know I speak the truth once you see it." The person sighed, a wry smile on his face. Then, with a flip of his hand, a flash of light appeared, and a green jade slip materialized in his grasp. He took a few more steps forward, approaching the large man.
The large man's eyes showed surprise. After a slight hesitation, he still rose to greet him and extended an arm to receive it.
Seeing this, the person opposite calmly raised a hand, as if to pass it over.
Just as the large man's fingers were about to touch the jade slip, the other person's expression suddenly changed, a fierce glint flashing across their face and instantly gone. The jade slip glowed green, abruptly transforming into a small emerald-green snake that, quick as lightning, bit the large man's wrist.
The large man, surnamed Lu, was filled with astonishment. He opened his mouth as if to cry out, but his face instantly turned dark and purplish. Then, his entire body silently collapsed to the ground, motionless.
"The Twin-Tailed Emerald Snake truly lives up to its reputation. In terms of toxicity alone, it's probably not much worse than the legendary Ten Ultimate Poisons. After being bitten, even the Nascent Soul has no power to escape. If it could fly with wings, it would definitely be an incredibly potent cultivator killer," the person muttered, a flicker of joy on their face. They took a step forward, meticulously examining the corpse, which had already begun to gradually melt.
The emerald-green snake, releasing its fangs from the corpse, flicked its tail, revealing two slender, pointed tails of equal size. With a tap of its two tails on the ground, the snake shot back onto its master's palm with a whoosh. It then raised its neck, coiled up, and flicked out a purplish-black venomous tongue, its emerald eyes extremely dark and sinister.
At this moment, the attacker cradled the small snake in one hand and lightly beckoned with the other.
The storage pouch from the corpse flew directly into his hand. He then, with a hint of excitement, sank his spiritual sense into it, as if searching for something.
