After discussing a few more matters, Han Li finally took his leave from the stone house.
A moment later, a roar echoed from above the great hall as a colossal black ship broke through the air and sped away into the distant horizon.
Han Li stood on the ship, gazing at the distant void with a pensive expression.
"Husband, did Fellow Daoist Ming have something important to discuss with you?" A gentle voice asked from behind as footsteps approached. It was Nangong Wan, who had gracefully walked over and inquired with concern.
"It's a long story," Han Li said with a wry smile as he turned around. "I'll explain everything in detail once we're back in the cabin."
Several months later, in a mysterious space, three ferocious-looking giant beasts each bit tightly onto a purple-gold chain. They stared uneasily at the other end of the three chains, where a black-robed youth, similarly wrapped in chains, stood.
Although the youth stood trapped and motionless, his face showed no fear. Instead, he continuously regarded the three beasts beside him with a mocking gaze.
After an unknown period, the black-robed youth finally spoke, his voice unusually cold and devoid of any emotion.
"If any of you three are willing to surrender now, I can still fulfill my previous promise: I will spare your lives, take you as my spirit servants, and afterwards bring you with me to the True Immortal Realm. Otherwise, once the Chains of Law officially backlash, all three of you will perish together under the power of the Law."
"Impossible!" exclaimed one of the monstrous beasts with a deer-bear body, its voice filled with shock and anger. "The backlash from the Chains of Law should clearly be directed only at you, an immortal from the Immortal Realm! Why would all three of us be implicated? Even if this chain truly backlashes, you should bear the majority of its power. The remaining small portion, if shared among the three of us, should cause no major harm!"
"Heh heh," the black-robed youth chuckled contemptuously. "I wonder which idiot taught you this method of activating the Chains of Law. You clearly only have a superficial understanding, yet you dared to use it on me. However, if I hadn't reacted quickly enough to pull you all in with a spatial treasure, I might have truly been ambushed by others outside. But now, under our mutual restraint, we can only wait for the backlash of the Law's power. Its true might is beyond what mere low-level true spirits like you can imagine; even a small portion of the backlash power would be enough to instantly annihilate you. Are you already feeling your true essence being slowly devoured by the Chains of Law? And my immortal body's power is far beyond what you inferior beings can compare to. Plus, I have immortal treasures to protect me; even if I suffer a greater backlash, it would merely mean a longer period of recuperation."
"Nonsense! This method was personally taught by Lord Golden Dragon King; how could it be fake? Don't even think of using a mere pill to sow discord among us. Hmph! If it were truly as you say, you would just have to wait quietly; why bother saying all this to the three of us?" The deer-bear beast snorted, roaring its response.
Upon hearing this, the other two beasts' expressions turned extremely grim.
"If I didn't have important matters to attend to and didn't want to waste time on you, why would I bother with all this talk? Fine, I'll make you one more promise: if anyone is willing to stop first, besides taking them to the Immortal Realm, I can bestow upon them a True Soul Pill, allowing them to achieve a True Immortal's soul. However, this promise is only valid for half a day. After this time, don't expect me to agree to anything else." The black-robed youth finally showed a hint of impatience.
"A True Soul Pill!"
Upon hearing this promise, the hearts of the other two monsters trembled. A flicker of fervent desire simultaneously flashed in their eyes.
"To have your souls extinguished soon, or to go to the Immortal Realm as my spirit servant after being granted a spirit pill—the choice is yours. As for your ties with the Horned Chi race, and even all your connections to this realm, I can help you sever them. From now on, I won't say another word." The black-robed youth finished with a cold sneer, then closed his eyes, appearing to rest contentedly within his heavy restraints.
The three giant beasts exchanged glances, their expressions varying, yet for a moment, none of them spoke.
As time slowly passed, the three monstrous true spirits felt the Chains of Law devouring them at an increasing rate. They had secretly employed countless divine abilities and secret arts to resist, but to no avail. Instead, their efforts subtly accelerated the erosion of the Law's power.
At this point, the three beasts truly began to panic.
If this continued, by the time the Chains of Law officially backlashed, their strength would likely have been weakened to less than one-tenth, leaving no chance of survival.
The expressions of the giant bird and the ox-beast began to fluctuate uneasily.
"Fellow Daoists, you're not truly swayed by his words, are you?" The deer-bear monster growled somewhat unkindly at its companions, seeing their expressions change. It instinctively tugged at the chain in its mouth, causing waves of Law's fluctuations to immediately emanate outwards.
"How is this possible? Although the True Soul Pill is rare, it's not enough to make me do such a thing. However, we shouldn't ignore the backlash of the Chains of Law mentioned earlier. After all, this is a matter of life and death," said another monster with two huge ox-horns and a body covered in dragon scales, a hint of hesitation in its voice.
"That's right," added another colossal bird, over ten zhang in size and enveloped in hazy gray flames, its eyes flickering. "Although we made an ancient pact with the Horned Chi race using the power of the Profound Heaven Treasure, there's absolutely no reason to truly sacrifice ourselves here. We definitely need to reconsider."
"I understand what you two mean. In that case, we should indeed discuss this thoroughly. But before that, I have another proposal that would greatly benefit all of us." The deer-bear monster pondered for a long time, then sighed. With a hint of helplessness, it suddenly transmitted a message to the other two beasts, simultaneously moving its body to slowly float towards the giant bird closest to it.
"Brother Lu, stop there! Just say what you have to say from where you are; there's no need to come closer." The gray giant bird's eyes flashed with a sharp glint as it sternly shouted, stopping him.
"What, Fellow Daoist, you don't even trust me?" The deer-bear monster's face immediately darkened upon hearing this.
"Heh heh, how could I think that?" the gray giant bird chuckled. "It's just that at a time like this, it's better for us not to be too close. Brother Tilong, what do you think?" It then asked the twin-horned ox-beast, who was quietly observing on the other side.
"Well... everyone has been worshipped by the Horned Chi race all this time, so why bother with this kind of..." The twin-horned ox-beast gave two dry laughs, intending to say something to smooth things over. But before its words finished, the purple chain it was biting suddenly trembled, and an irresistible immense force surged out from it. This force shattered the beast's remaining words and violently shook its mouth, filling it with blood.
After an unexpected scream, the beast was forcibly torn free from the purple-gold chain in its mouth. Just as it was about to open its mouth wide in shock and bite again, a cold sneer suddenly came from above its head. Then, the air seemed to darken, and a giant mountain-like, blood-colored seal appeared almost instantly above it without any warning, pressing down amidst countless golden and silver runes.
The beast was greatly alarmed, realizing it was clearly too late to dodge. With a roar of anger, its body suddenly swelled several times in size, and its two large hands instantly transformed into massive black hooves, striking towards the blood-colored seal.
A heaven-shattering *boom* resonated.
The moment the two giant hooves touched the blood-colored seal, they instantly exploded into powder. Its physical body and inner spirit then shattered and disintegrated bit by bit after a few rapid flashes of bloody light.
At this moment, a ripple flashed above the blood-colored seal, and the black-robed youth appeared with a cold sneer.
Simultaneously, the other black-robed youth, originally bound by layers of purple-gold chains in the middle of the three beasts, silently faded away with the wind, a strange expression on his face.
"Impossible! How could you break free from the Chains of Law!" The enormous gray bird was terrified out of its wits upon seeing this sudden, shocking change. After a shriek, it hastily spat out the chain from its mouth, and its two hazy gray feathered wings flashed violently, transforming into a streak of gray light as it shot backward.
A muffled *thud*.
A fleshy, black-furred giant palm struck head-on as if swatting a fly. The unprepared giant bird was forcibly slapped back, tumbling more than a dozen times before barely managing to regain its balance in the void behind it.
At this moment, the deer-bear monster slowly withdrew one of its arms, a hint of ferocity on its face.
"Yang Lu, you're crazy... Oh... I understand now! You actually defected to him first, and you tampered with this Chain of Law long ago!" The gray giant bird vigorously shook its still dizzy head, then cried out in astonished anger as the realization dawned on it.
"You only realize it now? It's too late." The deer-beast remained coldly silent, while the black-robed youth on the blood seal smiled sinisterly.
"My Lord, as long as you spare my life, I am willing to surrender to you and become your spirit servant..." The gray giant bird's heart sank rapidly as it spoke in terror, slowly retreating backward.
"Too late," the black-robed youth said with a cold sneer, a hint of malice suddenly flashing in his eyes. "I only have one True Soul Pill, and only the ability to bring one person back to the Immortal Realm. Yang Lu, since you intend to surrender to me, then kill it. Consider this my first command to you. If you can't do it, and are killed by it instead, then this True Soul Pill will naturally go to the victor. Don't worry that I'll go back on my word; I came down to this realm precisely because I lack someone to command. Only the strongest among you is qualified to be my spirit servant."
