Volume 10: War in the Demon Realm
The Treant, having just transformed, immediately regained some ability to move. Its limbs thrashed wildly, and a strange tremor emanated from its body. Some of the black threads within its wooden body were forcefully vibrated apart. Then, with a large stride, a swirling mist rose from beneath its feet, lifting it into the air.
With a whooshing sound, the Celestial Witch Skeleton, which had seemed sluggish before, moved its two arms, and its ten fingers shot upwards with imperceptible speed, grasping at the sky. Immediately, countless blood-red threads materialized into a net, crisscrossing and cutting downwards.
The Treant, which had just taken flight, paused, then exploded into countless fragments.
From the explosion, a wisp of green gas coalesced, then shot out as a faint green phantom. After a flicker, it appeared high in the air, over sixty meters away. With another flicker, it was about to catch up to the two small figures ahead.
Just then, the giant skeleton's eyes flickered with green flames. Its massive mouth suddenly opened, spraying forth an exceptionally vibrant crimson mist.
The green phantom felt the surrounding space suddenly tighten. Immediately, an unimaginable colossal force came from behind it. It only managed to let out a scream before being swept up by the crimson mist and dragged down. After another flicker, it was helplessly sucked into the skeleton's giant mouth and quickly chewed.
A flash of escaping light!
The Nascent Souls of the elderly man surnamed Wu and the elderly man surnamed Yu seized the opportunity to burst out of the iron cage. However, after glancing back, they coincidentally witnessed the demise of the last elderly man.
Both were immediately shocked and enraged.
The elderly man surnamed Yu immediately let out a loud cry. His Nascent Soul rubbed its hands together, and a ball of black flames appeared behind it. Then, with a sway in the wind, it transformed into the phantom of a giant, pitch-black scorpion.
The Nascent Soul then formed another hand seal, about to unleash this scorpion to charge into the iron cage.
But at that moment, with a 'thump,' the Nascent Soul of the elderly man surnamed Wu, standing nearby, grabbed its arm:
"This attack is completely useless. We have lost our physical bodies, and our vital energy has been depleted too much. We can no longer contend with this Blood Fiend Corpse. It's crucial to escape before it fully regains its freedom. Otherwise, all three of us might truly perish here."
No sooner had he spoken!
The iron cage below trembled violently. After one of the giant skeleton's legs moved, its massive body actually wobbled and half-stood up. With eyes flickering with green flames, it stared blankly at the Nascent Souls outside the cage.
At this point, most of the black threads within the skeleton had been conspicuously devoured. Only a small portion remained clustered around its other leg, weakly resisting the onslaught of the crimson threads.
As soon as the two elderly Nascent Souls met the skeleton's gaze, a chill involuntarily ran down their spines.
"Alright, I'll listen to Brother Wu. Let's go!" The elderly man surnamed Yu gritted his teeth, dispelled the giant scorpion effigy behind him, and said reluctantly.
"That's right. Where there's life, there's hope. As long as we escape with our lives, are we afraid we can't avenge this?" The elderly man surnamed Wu let out a sigh of relief.
Inside the iron cage, the skeleton shook its enormous head, emitting a spine-chilling roar. After its other leg swayed again, it slowly began to stand upright.
"Go!"
This time, the two Nascent Souls dared not hesitate any longer. Immediately, their escaping lights ignited, transforming into two long rainbows, one azure and one white, soaring through the air and away.
With just a dozen or so flickers, the two had conspicuously reached the edge of the blood lake. It seemed that with one more incantation, they would completely escape this area.
But at this critical moment, a rumbling sound suddenly erupted ahead. A crimson mist appeared without any warning, surging towards them.
The two elders were startled and hurriedly halted their escaping lights. They reappeared in their Nascent Soul forms and exchanged glances. Immediately, one formed a hand seal with a single hand, and the phantom of the black fire scorpion reappeared behind him. The other opened his mouth and released a small azure bell and a white bone shield.
The crimson glow appeared to be very far away, but after a blur, it inexplicably arrived nearby. The crimson light receded, and five identical young men walked out side-by-side from within.
"The Five Blood Conjuncts!" The elderly man surnamed Wu was startled and blurted out the names of the five individuals before them.
"How is it that the five of you fellow Daoists are here? Have you perhaps been secretly following us brothers, hoping to reap the benefits of our struggle?" However, the Nascent Soul of the elderly man surnamed Yu's eyes flashed with fierce light as he asked grimly.
The five young men stood motionless with blank expressions. It was as if they hadn't heard the words of the two individuals opposite them at all.
This caused both elders to freeze in surprise.
Doubt crept into the elderly man surnamed Yu's eyes. He then re-examined the Five Blood Conjuncts, and finally discovered the differences between these five young men and their previous appearance.
At this moment, the Five Blood Conjuncts' eyes glowed with an extreme crimson light. Their unusually radiant skin was also somewhat shriveled compared to before, and they faintly emitted a putrid stench that hadn't been present before.
After this elder's thoughts shifted, he immediately realized something, and his expression instantly turned grim.
The elderly man surnamed Wu also noticed the peculiarities of the Five Blood Conjuncts at this point. After exchanging a glance with the elderly man surnamed Yu, the two Nascent Souls moved, slowly retreating to either side, widening the distance between themselves and the Five Blood Conjuncts.
"Where are the two of you going? Since you two fellow Daoists have lost your physical bodies, why not hand over your Nascent Souls and let this one directly devour them, thus adding two more points of divine ability?" A sinister voice suddenly emerged from the nearby void. Then, with a flash of crimson light, ripples appeared above the Five Blood Conjuncts, and a glowing blood shadow flashed into existence.
"You speak with great arrogance! Do you truly believe that just because my brother and I are only Nascent Souls, you can manipulate us as you please?" Seeing this, the elderly man surnamed Yu replied, utterly enraged.
"By myself, I might be somewhat outmatched, but with five Blood Puppets now, capturing you will naturally be an easy matter." The blood shadow let out a sinister laugh. And without another word, it formed a hand seal with one hand. With a rumbling sound, countless crimson clouds appeared abruptly in the void from all directions, encircling the two Nascent Souls, the blood shadow, and the Five Blood Conjuncts all together in one spot.
Then the mysterious blood shadow let out a triumphant laugh. It lunged, transforming into a crimson rainbow that shot forth...
The Five Blood Conjuncts, in turn, moved. Each silently unleashed sword light several tens of meters long, manipulating them to swing. They also aggressively surged towards the two Nascent Souls.
Seeing this, the two elderly Nascent Souls, though filled with shock and rage, likewise activated their divine abilities and treasures to resist. However, they were instantly at a disadvantage, and a look of despair couldn't help but appear in their eyes.
Having lost their physical bodies, they absolutely could not hold on for long. Being captured would likely happen in an instant.
And the outcome was exactly as they had foreseen.
After a short while, the crimson figure was toying with several new treasures in its hand, its face filled with satisfaction. The crimson glow emanating from its body was conspicuously three-tenths thicker than before.
A strange roar faintly echoed from the center of the blood lake.
"A Blood Fiend Corpse! Heh heh, what an unexpected windfall! I originally only intended to obtain the legacy of True Lord Tianding, but I never expected to find a Blood Fiend Corpse! And one that transformed from the remains of a mighty cultivator at the Mahayana stage! As long as I refine this Fiend Corpse again, whether for resisting heavenly tribulations or for future combat, it will be simply wonderful." After muttering a few joyful words to itself, the blood shadow looked towards the direction from which the distant roar came, a cruel glint appeared in its eyes, and it put away the treasures in its hand.
He then shook his large sleeve. A surging crimson light erupted from his body, immediately enveloping him and the Five Blood Conjuncts. Transforming into a surging stream of light, they flew directly towards the center of the blood lake.
At this moment, within the giant iron cage, the Blood Fiend Corpse, transformed from the Celestial Witch Skeleton, had completely devoured all the black threads within its body. Its massive body finally stood up amidst tremors.
Looking towards the crimson mist surging from afar, the Fiend Corpse let out another roar. After a flash of ferocious light in its eyes, it likewise flew out of the iron cage and surged towards the distant crimson light.
A moment later, loud rumbling sounds filled the air above the blood lake, with continuous explosions.
"It's finally repaired. It should be able to support two or three more teleportations." Han Li gazed at the small, brand-new magic array before him, a faint smile on his face.
After half a day's time, he not only repaired the array using his own materials but even made a few minor modifications. However, these changes did not affect its teleportation efficacy in the slightest.
When he pointed with a single-hand seal, seeing the array activate very smoothly and begin to emit a humming sound, he immediately stepped into it without hesitation.
After a swirl of white light, he vanished without a trace within the array.
The next moment, when Han Li reopened his eyes, he found himself in a pitch-black space.
"This is..."
A blue light flashed in Han Li's eyes. Activating his spiritual sight, he clearly saw everything around him.
He saw that he was currently on a small hill, much like a mound. Nearby were several giant pine trees, some thirty meters tall. And beneath his feet was another small teleportation array.
Further away, there were rolling mountain peaks and swathes of green trees. It was as if he was in a continuous mountain range.
Han Li only observed for a moment, then suddenly chuckled softly. He flicked his sleeve, and an azure flying sword flew out from within. After swaying in the wind, it suddenly transformed into a sky-piercing giant blade over three hundred meters long. Emitting dazzling azure light, it circled and danced in the high heavens...
"Slice!"
Immediately, the giant blade let out a long hum. After a blur, it suddenly unleashed sword-lights several kilometers long in all directions.
Wherever the azure sword-light passed, the pitch-black void was completely cut open, becoming brilliantly lit.
The image of the distant, continuous mountain peaks suddenly twisted. It then transformed into pure white stone walls, over thirty meters high. These walls surrounded the entire small hill and the nearby trees from all directions, leaving no escape.
The place he was in seemed to be a massive courtyard.
Han Li squinted his eyes, re-examining the distant white stone walls. A peculiar expression flashed across his face. Then he suddenly turned his head and casually spoke to a certain giant tree on the hill:
"Fellow Daoist, you've been hiding for quite some time. Isn't it about time you revealed yourself to meet me, Han? Or do you intend for me to personally invite you out?"
