Chapter Nine: The Hundred Races of the Spirit Realm
Han Li sent silent instructions. By the time he walked out of his residence's main gate, Bloodsoul, Vermilion Fruit, and others were already respectfully awaiting him there.
With a command, Han Li instructed Old Ancestor Huashi and the twelve Fragrant Maidens to stay behind. He only took Bloodsoul and Vermilion Fruit with him, transforming into a streak of radiant light and soaring into the sky, heading straight for the center of the town.
Soon after, streaks of light also flashed from other building complexes in the dense forest. Similarly, other individuals, mounted on streaks of light, rose into the air.
Almost simultaneously, numerous streaks of light emerged from the pavilions in the town specifically designated for foreign visitors. They surged like a tide towards the same destination.
By the time Han Li, as a flash of light, arrived above the tall tower, many people had already entered it.
Han Li's gaze swept over the hundred armored guards outside the tall tower. Then he descended directly outside the main gate with the two women.
Just then, a figure flickered within the tower, and Fairy Feiyun gracefully emerged. After curtsying to Han Li, she said with a smile, "Senior Han, welcome to the auction. If you don't mind, allow this humble one to personally escort you inside."
The woman seemed to have been waiting there for a long time.
"Since the Fairy is so thoughtful, then I shall trouble you," Han Li said, not surprised. He smiled slightly and nodded.
Hearing this, the purple-clad woman brightened. She waved her hand towards the guards nearby, and immediately, Han Li and his companions strode leisurely into the stone tower, without even needing to show their tokens.
The moment he stepped through the stone tower's entrance, Han Li immediately felt an unusual ripple. The surrounding scenery rapidly rushed backward.
It appeared to be just a small step. Yet, he instantly teleported from the doorway directly to the staircase on the first floor of the stone tower.
On the staircase ahead, two pale-skinned aliens were standing, their bodies shimmering with blurry halos of light.
With a flash of light, the two aliens completely vanished into thin air, leaving behind only faint residual spatial fluctuations.
"Is this the true entrance to the auction venue?" Han Li asked, his expression shifting.
"What Senior said is correct," the purple-clad woman replied with a charming smile. "From here, you can directly enter the Grotto-heaven."
Han Li nodded, his form flickering as he led the way onto the staircase. A surge of spatial energy rushed towards them, and the figures of several individuals immediately became distorted and blurry.
After a short while, Han Li and his group found themselves in a private room, exquisitely and elegantly decorated.
The entire private room was over ten zhang in size. In front of it was a nearly transparent light screen. Looking out from it, one could observe a massive square from a commanding height.
The square was surrounded by densely packed stone chairs and throngs of people.
At the edge of the square, there was a circle of faint silver stone houses, numbering fifty or sixty, suspended dozens of zhang in the air. Golden runes flickered faintly on the surface of each, making it impossible for anyone outside to detect the slightest movement within.
Han Li and his companions were precisely inside one of these flying houses, with the purple-clad woman standing beside them, smiling.
At first glance, these arrangements seemed not much different from a regular auction.
However, Han Li, seated in the silver stone house, directed his gaze thousands of zhang above the square.
There, clusters of five-colored clouds drifted erratically. Countless black armored warriors were faintly concealed within them, and various restrictive fluctuations permeated the entire sky, seemingly enveloping the entire square.
Looking even higher, above the five-colored clouds, there was a resplendent golden palace complex. Although somewhat indistinct, sounds like heavenly music occasionally emanated from it, imparting an inexplicable sense of relaxation.
"Your alliance holds this auction within a Grotto-heaven, and with so many contingencies prepared, it's truly foolproof," Han Li suddenly said with a smile to the purple-clad woman.
"Our alliance is this cautious purely for safety," the purple-clad woman chuckled. "After all, the treasures being auctioned this time are far beyond anything previously seen. There are even two or three items that can suppress or postpone the arrival of the Grand Heavenly Tribulation, so we must guard against any ill intentions from certain seniors."
"Seeing your alliance's arrangements, I imagine most fellow Daoists will no longer entertain any further thoughts," Han Li chuckled, speaking meaningfully.
"I hope so," she replied. "Senior Han, the auction is about to begin, and this humble one still has some matters to attend to, so I won't linger here." The purple-clad woman turned her head to glance at the square outside the light screen, then spoke with a smile.
"Fellow Daoist, please attend to your duties," Han Li said, waving his hand without hesitation. "There's no need for you to accompany us further."
Hearing this, the purple-clad woman bowed and offered two more words of apology before exiting the stone house.
Only Han Li and his two companions remained in the private room.
"Treasures that can postpone the Grand Heavenly Tribulation – no wonder the Helians Alliance is so cautious," Bloodsoul exhaled slowly, remarking with a hint of peculiarity.
"Only items like these could make Mahayana-stage cultivators flock to them, willing to pay any price," Han Li said noncommittally.
"Senior, aren't you tempted by such treasures?" Bloodsoul asked, looking at Han Li, unable to resist. "Even if you don't need it now, it will most likely be of great use in the future."
"Heh heh, as for the future, we'll naturally discuss it when the time comes," Han Li replied with a faint smile, seemingly unconcerned. "Even if I desired such treasures, I wouldn't seek them at this auction. There are dozens of Mahayana-stage cultivators of the same rank here alone. If one were to truly compete for them, the gains might not outweigh the losses. My main goal this time is still focused on those teleportation slots."
Seeing this, Bloodsoul, though having other thoughts, could only nod in agreement.
Vermilion Fruit, on the other hand, watched the numerous alien participants outside the light screen, her small face filled with excitement.
Approximately half an hour later, the vast square was finally filled to capacity. Tens of thousands of alien cultivators above the Refinement Void stage had gathered here.
At this moment, a thunderous rumble echoed from the empty center of the square. Then, as the ground split apart, a stone platform emerged from below.
Following this, a light array appeared on the platform, and a red-haired elder materialized upon it.
The elder wore a smile. Although not particularly tall, the moment he appeared, a weighty aura immediately enveloped the entire auction venue.
Some alien powerhouses who were whispering among themselves instantly felt a chill in their hearts. They all fell silent and looked towards the stone platform.
"This old man is Mingzun, the head overseer of our Alliance on this continent," the red-haired elder announced faintly. "Heh heh, I presume I don't need to introduce myself much; many fellow Daoists are well aware of my background. Therefore, I won't say much more, except to remind some fellow Daoists that the rules of this auction are similar to those elsewhere. Anyone who fails to abide by the rules should not blame this old man if I become merciless and personally see you out. Good, I declare this auction open!" With that, a spiritual light flashed beneath his feet, and he transformed into a silver rainbow, soaring into the sky. After a few flashes, he vanished into the five-colored clouds.
Almost simultaneously, a light array on the stone platform swirled with iridescent light, and a voluptuous and beautiful woman, with a face full of smiles, appeared there.
The woman's beautiful eyes were watery and seemed to brim with endless charm. After merely glancing around, the alien cultivators closest to her felt an unusual sensation, as if their blood was boiling.
Even stranger, behind the woman's shapely derriere were three fluffy, pink tails, gently swaying from side to side, giving her an even more enchanting and alluring appearance.
"A Three-Tailed Charm Fox! Such a demonic being actually exists in our Spirit Realm!"
"Where did the Helians Alliance find her, and why let her preside over this auction!"
The square, which had quieted down, stirred once more. Many alien men stared intensely at the beautiful woman with predatory, wolf-like gazes.
The woman witnessed all of this, yet her expression remained unchanged. Instead, she smiled charmingly and spoke, her words carrying a fragrant breath:
"This humble one is Hu Yushuang. I am honored by Senior Ming's trust to host this auction. Fellow Daoists, seniors, please rest assured. Although I am just a mere woman, I have presided over many similar auctions, and I am confident that I will satisfy all of you."
"Hostess Hu, are you deliberately deceiving us? With a talent like yours, if you had appeared at other auctions, how could we not have known?" an unknown voice suddenly asked, oddly pitched and elusive.
Others, hearing this, also showed signs of suspicion.
"If this fellow Daoist is referring to this continent, then indeed, it is my first time hosting an auction here," Hu Yushuang replied unhurriedly.
"What? The Fairy isn't from this continent!" someone immediately exclaimed in surprise.
"This humble one previously spent most of her time in the Blood Heaven realm," Hu Yushuang said with a charming smile. "I only arrived on the Wind Yuan Continent a year ago. No wonder so many fellow Daoists find me unfamiliar."
"Heh heh, so Fairy Hu isn't from our Wind Yuan Continent," a crude male voice suddenly called out from a corner of the square, his words dripping with jest. "Tsk tsk, what a pity. If I had known such a peerless enchantress existed, why would I have practiced ascetic cultivation until now, still unmarried and alone?"
"Hehe, what a coincidence," the beautiful woman chuckled. "My previous husband passed away not long ago. If this fellow Daoist is interested, this humble sister might just be able to truly offer a chance. However, since this fellow Daoist dares to speak such bold words, why hide your head and tail? Why not step forward and repeat your words in front of this humble one?"
Hearing this, the beautiful woman let out a soft giggle. As she spoke, a crystalline light circulated in her eyes, and the seductive power emanating from her instantly increased by three or four times. She transformed into an incredibly bewitching presence, like a magnet.
"Alright... since it's your request, I will definitely comply...""If I had known such a peerless enchantress existed, why would I have..."A pale-faced middle-aged man, standing not far from the central stone platform, suddenly rose to his feet, eyes wide and unfocused, and began to loudly declare, his face flushed crimson.
