Volume Ten: Battle of the Demon Realm
“Yes, my lord,” the five giant bats said in human voices. With a flap of their wings, they transformed into five wisps of light wind and vanished once more.
Seeing this, the ox-headed giant let out a cold laugh. With a flip of his hand, a golden horn suddenly appeared in his grasp, and he brought it to his lips, blowing forcefully.
Immediately, a horn blast that pierced the sky rang out. The sound was deep and guttural, filled with an indescribable primal aura.
The blue giant oxen, which had been mixed among the blood bats, upon hearing this sound, instantly had blood-red eyes and exhaled white mist. They then simultaneously let out low roars and charged out of the rolling black mist, converging directly towards the giant's location.
Then, the horn blast from the giant's mouth suddenly changed. Amidst its low tone, it suddenly resonated with the clang of “weapons clashing.” With a movement of his body, he then transformed into a silver streak and sped away into the distance.
Behind him, tens of thousands of lightning oxen transformed into a mighty tide, following in a rolling, irresistible surge towards the distance.
The strangely ugly youth's mouth twitched upon witnessing this scene, but he immediately let out a high-pitched shriek.
Upon hearing this sound, the blood bats also stirred, then, as if receiving a command, they instantly transformed into over a dozen blood clouds, flying off in all directions.
The number of blood bats was more than ten times that of the lightning oxen, so even when divided into over a dozen teams, each team still comprised tens of thousands of blood bats.
Therefore, even in the direction the lightning oxen had just taken, two teams of blood bats brazenly followed, showing no concern about being discovered by the other side.
As for the youth himself, he retracted his wings and transformed into a streak of blood-red light, disappearing into one of the largest blood clouds, vanishing in a flash.
In the demonic energy that still surged and dispersed in all directions high in the sky, it became eerily silent for a time after these two types of demonic beasts departed.
However, after a mere moment, the demonic energy began to churn violently, accompanied by loud hissing sounds. Suddenly, enormous, glossy black pythons appeared, each varying in length; the largest exceeding a hundred zhang, while the smaller ones were twenty to thirty zhang long.
Moreover, on the forehead of each giant python, a vivid red blood-eye appeared, revealing them to be a rare group of three-eyed demonic pythons.
The number of these giant pythons was significantly smaller than that of the lightning oxen and blood bats, only about five to six thousand in total, but when gathered, the terrifying aura they emitted far surpassed that of the previous two types of demonic beasts.
On the largest among them, a demonic python over three hundred zhang long, stood a high-ranking demon clad in dark green armor and wearing a jet-black mask.
He stood with arms crossed, surveying his surroundings coldly. His pupils constricted slightly, seemingly surprised not to find any trace of the previous two types of demonic beasts.
But then, he abruptly stomped on the demonic python beneath his feet.
The python immediately reared its upper body and let out a thunderous, low roar. Then, a bloody light flashed on the python's forehead, and two strange blood-red horns suddenly emerged. At the same time, its back rippled and twisted, forcing out a pair of green fleshy wings from within its body.
The other three-eyed demonic pythons nearby, upon seeing this, swayed their bodies and surged out of the demonic energy, raising their heads to let out a collective cry, as if worshipping a king.
Only the green-armored demon, standing steadily atop the transformed giant python's head, remained utterly still, his eyes icy cold.
“Only ten thousand years have passed, yet Brother Wei's natal divine python has advanced again! Now it can probably withstand an early Saint-level being!” After all the pythons had surged out of the demonic energy, a clear male voice suddenly followed.
Then, a foul wind swept through, and a bizarre insect, over a zhang in length, suddenly materialized from the black mist.
This insect was about two zhang long, pale purple all over, with slender antennae on its head and prominent fangs in its mouth. Its forelegs were massive and blade-like, resembling a giant praying mantis.
And standing on this giant insect was a small figure, about three feet tall.
This small figure looked like a child of only seven or eight years old, with a small topknot tied up high, wearing a light green Daoist robe. Three small golden swords were stuck into each of his shoulders. His eyes, with their distinct black and white, appeared incredibly cute as they darted around.
“So it's Brother Hunzhu,” the green-armored demon said, his eyes flashing with a cold light as he spoke to the child in an unusually frigid voice. “A few years ago, I accidentally acquired a rare spirit medicine; only after my natal spirit python consumed it could it break through to its current realm. However, Friend Daoist, I haven't seen you for years. Your cultivation has become even more refined!”
“For this journey to the Spirit Realm, this king has also been preparing for many years, and naturally, there's been a slight breakthrough in my cultivation,” the child replied with a laugh.
“Since Friend Daoist Hun's clan has also arrived, let us act together. I believe that even if there are any tough adversaries nearby, they absolutely won't be able to resist the combined forces of our two clans,” the green-armored demon suggested indifferently.
“This king was just thinking the same. Children! All of you, come out now!” Upon hearing this, the child readily agreed with a beaming smile, then turned his head and let out a fierce roar into the demonic energy!
No sooner had he spoken than a buzzing sound arose from the demonic sea formed by the black mist. It was faint at first, but a moment later, it grew immense, like surging waves.
Innumerable demonic insects surged out from the black mist.
These demonic insects were all about the size of a human head, and apart from being much smaller in size, they looked exactly like the giant mantis beneath the child's feet. However, their sheer numbers were overwhelming, continuously pouring out of the demonic energy for the time it takes to eat a meal before finally ceasing.
By this time, these demonic insects almost completely covered all low-altitude areas beneath the demonic energy, their pairs of short purple wings fluttering, numbering seven to eight hundred thousand. Such a massive swarm, seen from afar, would send shivers down the spine of even a Body Integration cultivator!
The green-armored demon, however, showed no surprise. With a low roar from his mouth, the three-eyed giant pythons clustered around him each shot downwards towards the ground. Then, with a flash of spiritual light, they eerily vanished into the soil.
As for the high-ranking demon himself, without a word, he again tapped the giant python beneath him with his toe, and transformed into a streak of green light, shooting off in a certain direction.
Seeing this, the child let out a chuckle, then a long whistle from his mouth, and rode the giant demonic insect beneath him, shooting off in the same direction.
The terrifying swarm, hearing the whistle, immediately stirred. Then, transforming into a vast sea of insects, they pursued.
In the time that followed, various groups of demonic beasts, differing in number, emerged one after another from the demonic energy, and under the lead of their respective high-ranking demons, eagerly swept towards different directions.
From their chaotic and disorganized movements, it seemed as if they had no fixed objective whatsoever.
After a full thirteen waves of demonic beasts had flown away, the rolling demonic energy high in the sky regained its calm.
This time, it was a full half an hour later before movement was heard again within the demonic energy.
First, a low drumming sound faintly emerged from within, followed by a surge of roaring sounds. The entire demonic sea began to churn, and silvery electric arcs inexplicably appeared, as thunder suddenly erupted.
At the same time, intense spatial fluctuations emanated in waves from deep within the demonic energy.
The already vast demonic sea unexpectedly expanded by more than a third of its size in mid-air.
Then, hundreds of colossal objects slowly descended from the depths of the demonic energy.
These objects were dark and massive, with huge, silvery, gleaming runes inscribed on their surfaces. They were shaped like colossal triangular towers. Their bases spanned a hundred li, and they slowly broke through the boundary amidst violent fluctuations, as if miniature cities were descending from the sky.
However, the descent of these colossal objects was no easy feat! The moment each one appeared from the black mist, it was simultaneously bombarded by the silvery electric arcs within the demonic energy, and waves of energy constantly distorted and shook their surfaces, as if trying to forcibly tear them apart.
The silvery runes on the surface of these triangular giant towers flared brightly, neutralizing all forces into oblivion. Then, with an earth-shattering roar, they finally landed on the ground below.
Wherever they landed, be it mountain peaks, hills, lakes, or dense forests, all were instantly crushed out of existence. The spectacle was astonishingly grand!
After a good half an hour, these colossal objects finally finished their descent, one by one.
Then, a roar resounded!
On one massive wall of the triangular giant tower, silvery runes began to flash. Then, countless silvery giant gates eerily appeared on it, densely packed, and slowly began to open outwards.
The faint sound of war drums, vaguely emanating from within the giant tower, suddenly grew into a thunderous roar.
Then, dark, gleaming single-log battle boats swarmed out from the silvery giant gates.
These battle boats were only a dozen zhang long. Their entire bodies were shrouded in a layer of black light. At the prow of each battle boat, a monstrously fierce demonic god statue was inscribed, and from each side, over a dozen incredibly sharp, abnormally long blades extended outwards.
Through the black light, it was vaguely discernible that each of these battle boats carried five or six demons clad in black-green armor, each sitting with a sharp blade in hand.
These battle boats did not fly far, but instead circled their respective giant towers, hovering and dancing in the air.
After each giant tower had released over a hundred black battle boats, teams of demonic armored warriors, clad in red armor and possessing wings on their backs, emerged from the towers.
They either held long halberds or wielded bows and arrows, and the moment they surged out of the silver gates, with a flutter of their wings, they all soared into the sky and dispersed in all directions, seemingly taking up guard.
Below, a spiritual light flashed within the silver gates, and streaks of dazzling rainbows, each a different color, shot out from them.
As the escape light converged, figures indistinguishable from humans unexpectedly materialized in mid-air.
These individuals were both male and female, dressed in various attires; some wore long robes, some were clad in battle armor, and some even had bare upper bodies.
However, each person emanated rolling demonic energy, with cold light gleaming in their eyes. A few even shook their heads, their bodies convulsing with a series of “cracking” sounds, and in an instant, transformed into demonic beings with two heads and four arms.
Their original heads remained unchanged from their previous appearance, but the newly manifested second heads were each terrifyingly grotesque, like ghosts.
These transformed demons were incredibly excited, both heads simultaneously raised, letting out low roars into the sky, filled with raw bloodlust, as if they could no longer contain their desire to kill.
