Volume Nine: Myriad Races of the Spirit Realm
"It might be good to take a look. Perhaps we'll discover something," Han Li agreed casually.
Seeing that Han Li did not refuse the suggestion, Bai Bi, though somewhat unwilling in his heart, did not voice any objections.
So the three changed direction and flew straight towards the source of the bloody smell.
After flying for over ten miles, a strange sight indeed appeared ahead: an oasis about half a mile in size.
In a flash, the three flew above it.
Actually, what was called an oasis appeared black and yellow, with only a few tall trees, mostly low bushes and unknown weeds.
At the center of the oasis was a pool several dozen feet wide, in which flowed streams of reddish blood. Beside the pool were over a dozen corpses of Black Abyss beasts, varying in size, lying on the ground, each pierced through by stone spikes.
The fresh blood flowing from these corpses gushed into the blood pool.
The entire oasis reeked of blood, making one want to vomit.
"How can these beasts appear in the desert? They should be in the dense forest we saw earlier," Lei Lan said, somewhat surprised after surveying the scene from above.
"They haven't been dead long, otherwise the blood would have coagulated," Bai Bi remarked after a careful look, making his own judgment.
Han Li, after a few glances, suddenly moved, transforming into a streak of green light that circled the entire oasis.
A moment later, he returned to his original spot, his eyes narrowed as he stared at the blood pool.
"What is it, Brother Han? Have you found something?" Lei Lan asked curiously.
"Yes, I have indeed found something," Han Li replied as if to himself, then abruptly shook his sleeve towards the ground.
A golden light shot out, instantly transforming into seven or eight sword-lights that plunged into the ground near the pool.
Lei Lan and Bai Bi were both startled. Before they could understand what was happening, several miserable cries suddenly came from where the sword-lights had pierced, followed by gurgling black blood. The nearby ground instantly cracked open, and several ape-like demonic creatures sprang out from underground.
Each was several feet tall, with four ears on its head, holding crude stone spears whose tips emitted a faint white light.
"Huh, Vengeful Ape Beasts! This is bad, this oasis is an illusion created by a Giant Spirit Flower!" As soon as he clearly saw the appearance of these demonic apes, Bai Bi suddenly remembered something and cried out.
"Giant Spirit Flower!" Han Li's eyes flashed, while Lei Lan gasped softly.
Just then, the ground beneath the three rumbled loudly, then began to shake violently and incessantly.
At the same time, the blood in the oasis pool surged outwards, and a red shadow shot out.
In just a flash, it appeared before Han Li, stabbing fiercely towards his face.
Lei Lan and Bai Bi were startled; this red shadow was simply too fast. Even if they wanted to help, it seemed they wouldn't be quick enough.
But Han Li, seeing this, merely let out a cold snort, and one of his arms blurred slightly.
With a "bang"!
A jade-white hand mysteriously appeared before him, and with a lightning-fast backhand grab, it firmly seized the red shadow.
The two Holy Sons nearby then clearly saw that it was an arm-thick, blood-red object resembling a long tongue, with a fist-sized fleshy ball at its tip covered in inch-long black thorns, constantly wriggling.
However, Han Li's hand seemed not to be made of flesh and blood; his crystalline fingers directly gripped the fleshy ball, treating the black thorns as if they were nothing, unable to harm his skin in the slightest.
Just then, five white bone skulls suddenly appeared on the surface of Han Li's five fingers. At the same time, he opened his mouth, and a stream of five-colored flames burst forth, sweeping down along the long tongue.
In almost an instant, the entire tongue transformed into a slender, five-colored ice rod.
Han Li, without hesitation, slapped the front end of the ice pillar with a backhand.
A ripple of green light flashed, followed by a crisp crackle like breaking porcelain. The ice rod instantly shattered into countless pieces, turning into sparkling light and vanishing without a trace.
A monstrous roar of a demonic creature came from underground, seemingly in immense pain. Meanwhile, the blood-colored light in the pool spun rapidly. In an instant, not a single drop of blood remained. Then, with a "boom," the entire oasis completely shattered, and a colossal entity emerged from the wreckage.
It was incredibly massive above and unusually slender below, a gigantic demonic flower similar in size to the original oasis.
The petals of this demonic flower were a pale silver, like the desert, but its center was blood-red, resembling fresh blood, having apparently transformed from the blood pool. The long tongue that attacked Han Li earlier was merely one of its many thick stamens.
What's more, dozens of the so-called "Vengeful Ape Beasts" stood on the strangely large petals of the demonic flower. They snarled at the sky, simultaneously making throwing motions with the stone spears in their hands, after which dozens of foot-long stone spikes appeared and shot directly towards Han Li and the other two.
"So this is a Giant Spirit Flower. It's quite interesting indeed. This flower should be a mid-tier demonic creature. Aren't mid-tier or higher demonic creatures rarely found on the first level?" Seeing this scene, Han Li, instead of being surprised, started to laugh.
This time, he didn't need to act at all. Lei Lan and Bai Bi, standing nearby, simultaneously raised their four hands, and a woven expanse of silver arcs and golden threads instantly shattered the incoming stone spikes.
"Brother Han! They are rare, but that doesn't mean they won't appear. Moreover, we chose a really bad time for the trial; it's precisely the period right before the eruption of the Fiend Abyss demonic tide. It's not strange for some mid-tier demonic creatures to appear early on the first level," Lei Lan said, frowning slightly and explaining.
Although they were facing a mid-tier demonic creature this time, the trouble it posed was far less than that of the previously encountered Yin Spider Bees, so after her initial surprise, the goddess's expression returned to normal.
"Is that so? I heard this flower's nectar is an excellent alchemy ingredient. Since we've encountered it, let's collect some," Han Li said with a noncommittal smile, then abruptly flicked his ten fingers downward.
With several "puffs," ten small golden swords shot out from his fingertips, instantly transforming into ten streaks of golden light that darted downwards.
The center of the gigantic flower let out a strange roar, and immediately countless densely packed red shadows shot forth, attempting to strike down the flying swords.
If ordinary members of the Flying Spirit Race encountered such fierce attacks, they would truly be in great trouble. But Han Li merely darkened his expression and pointed a single hand at the swarm of flying swords.
Instantly, the ten flying swords blazed with golden light. The moment they made contact, they submerged all the red shadows within their sword-radiance, shattering them into dust.
Then, with another flicker of golden light, dozens of identical sword-lights suddenly materialized, descending like a deluge.
Upon seeing this, the Vengeful Ape Beasts, apparently realizing their impending doom, let out piercing shrieks and threw their stone spears, which surprisingly also transformed into dozens of white lights that met the sword-lights.
Although these stone spears had been crudely refined by these demonic creatures, how could they possibly withstand the sharp sword qi of the Azure Bamboo Cloud-Swarm Swords? They immediately burst into clouds of stone powder amidst the chilling light.
Next, a dozen or so golden streaks merely circled through the Vengeful Ape Beast horde, and the creatures promptly split in half and fell to the ground.
At the same time, the remaining sword-lights mercilessly slashed wildly around the entire demonic flower, instantly hacking it into pieces, which fell heavily to the ground, with large quantities of green liquid spilling everywhere.
This Giant Spirit Flower, along with the Vengeful Ape Beasts born alongside it, was completely annihilated by Han Li's flying swords in a single encounter.
Lei Lan and Bai Bi had no chance to intervene. They couldn't help but exchange bitter smiles.
"Alright, let's go down, collect some nectar, and then depart," Han Li said casually, waving a hand to recall all the sword-lights into his sleeve.
Immediately, he flickered and landed on the nearby ground. Then, with a flip of his hand, a small emerald green bottle appeared in his palm. He pointed it at the fragmented flower core and made a sweeping motion.
Immediately, a stream of green mist shot out, sweeping over the flower cores and instantly drawing out clumps of pink, liquid nectar. It then flew back and poured into the small bottle.
Han Li shook the small bottle, and a peculiar fragrance of nectar wafted to his nose. With a slight smile, a green light flashed, and the small bottle vanished.
Lei Lan and Bai Bi also landed, and likewise took out containers, each taking a share of the remaining nectar.
"Let's go," Han Li said indifferently. Then he spread his wings and soared into the air once more.
Bai Bi transformed into a golden light and followed closely without a word. Lei Lan, with a smile, was about to take flight when her gaze swept over the Giant Spirit Flower's remains on the ground. A thought struck her, and on a whim, she flicked her finger.
After a clap of thunder, a silver arc shot out and vanished in a flash, striking a yellow branch nearby that had remained connected to the demonic flower's remains. The branch instantly turned to ash.
Only then did Lei Lan clap her hands together, spread her wings, and fly up, chasing after Han Li and the other person ahead.
In a flash, the figures of Han Li and the other two vanished without a trace into the distant sky. No further sounds emanated from the area.
A full hour later, the nearby ground suddenly trembled. Then, with a series of rumbling sounds, it split open, and several black tendrils, resembling towering pillars, abruptly emerged from underground. Following them, a deep black demonic flower, several times larger than the original Giant Spirit Flower, slowly rose from the dark depths of the earth.
This flower resembled a giant mountain. Its tendrils slapped the ground, and it steadily came to a halt. Just then, a soft gasp of surprise emanated from the flower.
"Who dares to tamper with the spirit flower placed here for sacrifice? Could it be Six-Legs and its kind?" A woman's voice burst forth, filled with anger.
Looking upwards following the sound, at the center of the giant black flower, a silver wooden chair stood upright within the core. Seated upon it was a slender figure with an indistinct face, holding a jade-green whip in her hand.
"Mistress, there's no need to be angry. The blood offerings here were only interrupted a short while ago, so those individuals shouldn't have left long ago. Allow your humble servant to investigate first." With a flash of yellow light, a short, furry figure suddenly appeared before the silver chair, kneeling before the woman on the chair, seemingly extremely respectful.
"Mm, I still need to continue presiding over the sacrifice. I'll leave this matter to you. No matter who they are, if they dare to ruin my affairs, do not let a single one escape," the woman said coldly, suddenly cracking her whip in the air.
Following a sharp whistle, a white streak flashed and vanished. The nearby space rippled, and then countless black mists surged out from the white streak, as if truly tearing open the space in that area.
