Chapter 113: Unexpected Change

Just as they reached the second floor, before Yan Ge could even knock, Madam Yan's voice came from inside the room. "Is that Han Li and Yan Ge?"

"Yes, Fourth Madam!" Yan Ge quickly stopped and replied respectfully.

"Yan Ge, you can go back now. Han Li can come in alone," Madam Yan's calm voice drifted out. The cool, detached tone stirred something within Han Li.

"As you wish." Yan Ge clearly held Madam Yan in high regard and showed no hesitation obeying her command. After smiling at Han Li, he quietly descended the stairs. Only Han Li remained outside the room on the second floor.

Han Li gazed coldly at the door. He didn't push it open immediately. Instead, he extended his spiritual sense to gauge the situation inside. He certainly didn't want to walk in and be cut down by a room full of ambushing soldiers. Caution was certainly advisable!

The room was quiet. There weren't many people. Only the breathing and heartbeats of Madam Yan and a few others were audible. It seemed no one unexpected was inside, which put Han Li greatly at ease.

So he stepped forward and lightly knocked twice. Then he pushed the door open, glanced inside, and was about to enter. However, the scene inside made Han Li's expression change drastically. The step he had already taken froze mid-air.

It was still the same room he had visited last night. The tables, chairs, and decor were all identical to before. The only difference was the attire of the beautiful women present. Madam Yan and the other elegant women were all dressed in plain white mourning clothes, sitting upright on several chairs, staring at him with cold eyes.

Han Li's face paled slightly, but he wasn't afraid. Instead, he was furious with the deceased Doctor Mo.

Clearly, Doctor Mo, that old fox, had played another trick on him. The letter, it seemed, was indeed as he suspected: it contained a hidden message. These 'tigresses' had learned of Doctor Mo's death from it, and now they were apparently waiting for him, the 'husband killer,' to walk right into their trap!

Han Li took a deep breath, and his expression returned to normal. Then he strode into the room, unceremoniously found a single chair, and sat down boldly opposite the women. He then watched them in silence, intending to see how these women would deal with him.

Han Li's brazenness and readiness to openly confront them evidently caught Madam Yan and the others off guard, throwing them into disarray. Their expressions varied.

Second Madam Li's face turned green. She was clearly enraged by Han Li, who had addressed them as 'Madam' just yesterday, but now dared to openly stare them down, despite being their junior. Coming from a scholarly family, she placed great importance on respect for elders and proper hierarchy. Encountering Han Li, who showed no respect for his elders or teachers, how could she not tremble with fury?

Third Madam Liu, however, was quite different from Madam Li. Not only was she not angry, but she looked back at Han Li with considerable interest. However, her stunning charm made Han Li hesitant to gaze at her closely, only glancing swiftly across her face.

Madam Yan's demeanor was similar to that of the cool and stunning Madam Wang. She met Han Li's gaze with an unmoving, chilling stare, her eyes filled with an icy coldness that seemed to freeze everything.

"You are quite bold, aren't you, my husband's last disciple!" After both sides stared at each other for the time it takes to brew a cup of tea, Madam Yan finally spoke. The sarcasm in her words was clear for all to hear.

"Honorable Madams, if you have something to know or something to say, just speak directly. I don't want to hear nonsense, nor do I wish to speak it!" Han Li said, his face expressionless.

Han Li knew clearly that something worse than arguing with one woman was having a war of words with several women simultaneously. Rather than painstakingly sifting through facts, it was better to go straight to the heart of the matter. This was Han Li's view.

Moreover, there were no hidden masters with drawn blades lurking in the room. This indicated that these women did not intend to act against him right now. It seemed they either had reservations or had something to ask of him. Given this, there was no need to be overly polite with them. After all, Doctor Mo's death was self-inflicted, and Han Li had nothing to be ashamed of.

"You..." Even Madam Yan, who had seen all sorts of situations, was so taken aback by Han Li's blunt tone that she almost choked on her words.

"Fine, I'll ask you! Did my husband die by your hand, you unfilial disciple!" Second Madam could no longer restrain herself. Her beautiful eyes almost shot flames. All traces of her scholarly refinement vanished, leaving only a face full of resentment.

"Second Sister!" Madam Yan frowned and called out softly, seemingly trying to stop Second Madam from asking a question that would immediately lead to a confrontation.

"This Madam Li is quite frank," Han Li thought with a cold smirk. "She's directly laid the most crucial question on the table."

"You could say he died by my hand, or you could say he committed suicide!" Han Li said calmly.

The moment these words left his mouth, the women opposite, including Madam Yan, were stunned. They had expected Han Li to either flatly deny it or brazenly confess. Instead, he had uttered something completely bewildering.

Second Madam Li paused for a moment, but then burst into a furious rage. She clearly believed Han Li was mocking them again.

"What nonsense are you spouting? You clearly harmed him!" Madam Li said, trembling all over.

"How do you know for sure I killed him? Did you witness it yourself?" Han Li retorted, no longer polite. He knew very well that the letter had been written before Doctor Mo's death. Naturally, it couldn't definitively confirm that he died by Han Li's hand. He estimated that the letter only contained conjectures left for his wives. Thus, Han Li could refute her without reservation.

"Since you say that, then please recount the circumstances of my husband's death to us women. If it truly has nothing to do with you, we will not deliberately wrongly accuse you." Fifth Madam Wang, who had been cool, stunning, and silent until now, suddenly spoke up.
